Nice atmosphere, slightly high prices. Unfortunately, the lady in the restroom was very unfriendly; a sign indicating that you have to pay or need a coin from the restaurant would be nice. My dog ​​was welcome, though, which is always very nice.

I usually only go to this restaurant to redeem my remaining Oktoberfest vouchers - I wouldn't choose it of my own free will. The ambience is okay, but not particularly inviting for me personally. The service is mixed: it really depends on who you get. While the lady on the left was very friendly and attentive, the gentleman in the middle was unfortunately not very involved. The price of the food is in the upper range, which is not always justified for what is on offer. My burger was disappointing in terms of taste - especially in relation to the price. The schnitzel, on the other hand, was solid. Beer prices are also higher. Overall, the restaurant gives the impression of being aimed at tourists. In my opinion, there are better alternatives in the city center with a fairer price-performance ratio.

The restaurant at Marienplatz is very nice and offers delicious food with a view of St. Mary's Church. The service was extremely friendly and asked several times about our well-being. It was just very good and everything was perfect! It's a shame because of a mix-up of dates on my part then only 7 people were there. The date was just right. During Holy Week when many are on vacation. Then right before Easter when many had other things to do. Next time the house will be full of us again. We recently went to Donisl, my first time; my husband used to go there more often. I'm not really sure what the concept is. Everything not in the 'atrium' is immersed in semi-darkness like a quaint pub – I don't mind, but it absolutely doesn't fit the prices. I don't know why a knuckle of pork has to cost over €40. Nor why a beer costs over €6 even in the off-season. Live music is great, but unfortunately it's so loud that any communication is impossible, even with the waiter. I know that for many people, going out to eat is an "experience"; ambiance, location, and the ambiance are important. I go out to eat for the culinary delights, and I have to admit, after my visit to Donisl, I feel sorry for the money. We had ox-crusted rolls. A crusty roll here refers to a regular white flour roll that has been placed under the grill to warm up. Pulled beef, maybe 0.5 cm thick. The menu said "with beef barbecue sauce," and we were served a packet of mayo and ketchup with the dry roll. A (much too thick) slice of cucumber and half a cherry tomato (which was also too thick for a burger), some lettuce, and (something I don't need and would like to see mentioned on the menu) ready-made coleslaw had found their way onto the burger. You could optionally upgrade the burger; for €10 more, you got "baked potatoes" (= a few halved triplets), herb sour cream (probably not just sour cream, it was overly creamy/fatty), and coleslaw (a very small portion). I already mentioned at the beginning that, for me, the prices didn't match the ambiance, nor did they match the food. It was small, it was unloving and without any effort (like the promised barbecue sauce), and in our case, the taste wasn't convincing either. "Salty" shouldn't be the main flavor of a meal in a restaurant. And I say that as an unhealthy person who adds salt when everyone else at the table already thinks it's enough, just to put it in context. The coleslaw was too salty, the sour cream was too salty, even the fried onions on the burger were too salty. Sure, it might depend on how you feel that day, but I've read about it in so many reviews now that it might be worth addressing. Since my main focus is actually on the food, unfortunately we won't be coming back. The menu is quite limited; we had difficulty finding anything that truly appealed to us (of course, that could be our fault; we know how to cook and live here, so we regularly have roast pork, knuckle of pork, and Antn at home). We found the "typical Bavarian" dishes like sausages, sausage salad, and bread rolls extremely overpriced, as were the salads (I'm particular about that, I'll gladly admit – an animal lost its life for a meat dish, so a salad with goat cheese doesn't have to cost the same as a roast pork). The portion size is unfortunately just as limited as the menu, and the taste isn't convincing. For me, Donisl lands on the unfortunately growing list of Munich restaurants that rely on their location, architecture, or history, but currently deliver little. I think that when reviews repeatedly appear that say "the best thing was the beer," a restaurant business should give it some thought. It's a shame, there's a lot of potential. By the way, according to the receptionist, the service was good; he should remember that he's the front man and a lack of enthusiasm isn't a sales hit. We weren't charged a tip in advance, and the tip we gave wasn't challenged. But I'd like to emphasize again here: in Germany, there are employment contracts; no one here works ONLY for tips. Here, tips generally express recognition for service – if the service was good, you get a tip; if it wasn't, you get little or no tip. It's outrageous to demand a tip.

We've been going to the strong beer festival in Donisl for three years now, but this year we didn't like the food at all. I can do without a curry sausage with warm paprika chips for €12. We made a reservation online for 5 p.m. and were informed at 7:30 p.m. that the table had been reserved again. We actually wanted to spend the evening there. But then we looked for another location in Munich.

I know Donisl from another time. Today the charm of a train station hall. There was no service in a positive sense. My meal (roast beef with dumpling and red cabbage) was completely cold. My wife's food (half a roast chicken...) wasn't brown, but it was fatty and popped. When I pointed out that the food was cold, the boss in charge replied "everyone was stressed, there was a lot going on". My answer that as a guest I don't have to care and that I can ask for a hot meal was met with the answer: "You're right, but I can't change that." No attempt to accommodate the guest in any way other than offering an espresso. We gratefully rejected this. Simply underground, so never again!!

The meat was incredibly tough and the crust was very bad or rock hard. My feeling immediately was that it was already 3 days old. I really expected something different in a house like the Donisl with its history. Not to mention the fact that my knuckle was first forgotten and everyone finished eating before I started... Kind of just a tourist rip-off🤷‍♂️ Update September 24th: Probably not believable or funny for some people - for a good knuckle I'd like to go to Berlin and go to the "Weißes Rössl" = the Donisl can "take a leaf out of it" (best knuckle of my 41 year old life) The beer is very good! 2 stars for the beer and 1 for the location or is it the other way around!? 🤔

The two of us went to Donisl and decided on the Käsespätzle - I got the large portion, my girlfriend the small portion. Both portions were filling, and the price-performance ratio is really unbeatable for downtown Munich. €41 for two meals including a special and half a beer is more than fair these days. In addition to the great ambience, we were particularly impressed by the excellent service. Our request for stronger cheese spaetzle was taken seriously and implemented creatively - really great! A big thank you to Sebastian, who served us incredibly warmly and individually. We felt welcome throughout. Another highlight: When my friend didn't quite finish her portion, it was lovingly wrapped up for us - in the form of a small "handbag", accompanied by a charming joke. Details like this make the difference! To be honest, we are surprised by the current rating of 3.9 stars (as of February 1, 2025). Our experience was entirely positive and we clearly deserve 5 stars! Of course we didn't try all the dishes, but the dishes we saw from other guests also looked very appealing. A small suggestion for improvement: The menu could be designed a little more attractively - but ultimately you don't eat the menu. Es ist ein Münchner Traditionslokal mit bayerischer Küche. Leider in den letzten Jahren mehr auf Touristen ausgerichtet. Die Preise sind selbst im lokalen Vergleich etwas überteuert. Der Service im vollen Lokal war etwas gestresst. Das Essen schmeckte aber gut und an Fasching war eine gute Stimmung, teilweise mit Live Musik.

Good day, we visited restaurants on Friday 27th December evening. It was 4 of us. No problem with getting a tabel. The restaurant has very nice traditional fit out. Despite the fact that it is a very big hall, the atmosphere is nice and you feel "warm". A lot of beautiful paintings and few sculptures. The mane is composed of very traditional (read "heavy") Bavarian food, but of good quality. Very professional and helpful service. I strongly recommend in case there is more then 2 of you to start from "Bavarian assorted cold cuts"- believe me you would not need any starters more. I guess that it goes without saying that beer quality is very good one. We paid for above mentioned starter, 4 main dishes + beer and wine ca EUR 170-180. But it is worth. I recommend a lot. In the heart of Munich, right next to the Rathaus, it is a good place to stop, especially if you have the opportunity to sit at one of the outdoor tables overlooking Marienplatz. We had dinner inside and the place looks very "fresh" and very clean, despite being one of the historic breweries in the city. Menu not exceptional if you don't have exquisitely German tastes, but I had some not bad spätzli with mushrooms. Curious that to go to the toilet you need to ask the staff for a token, I think it is due to the central location in the square. However, it works well and the staff juggles the many customers without problems. It's not the best place in Munich but, especially if you don't book in advance at the most famous venues, it's not a bad choice.

She really made our evening special with her warm manner and first class service. You can immediately tell that she is passionate about her work. The food was also delicious and came quickly. The cheese spaetzle was very good, but a side salad would have been nice. Overall, highly recommended. The interior design was also very nice.
