Such delicious gluten-free pizza! We were there on Saturday, it was absolutely packed… but everything still went very quickly and smoothly. Very friendly team & beautiful atmosphere. We'll be back very soon.

Delicious food, friendly staff. Nice atmosphere and restaurant design. The only downside is that it's difficult to find parking in the evening.

Unfortunately, it's always a disaster. They advertise "Caccio e Pepe" all over the place, and in the end, even after repeated attempts, you still can't get it. I'm sitting in the restaurant right now and I'm once again deeply disappointed...

The food is good, but pickup is a no-brainer. Ordered online, waited 45 minutes, then went to the restaurant, where they had to wait five minutes for someone to speak to me. "They haven't started processing your order, it'll take another 20-30 minutes." It's always like this; we've tried it several times.

Once again, excellent in all areas! Many thanks also to the excellent service of the young staff! And for the pleasant conversation with the senior manager!

The food was extremely delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely and romantic. We were served by Ella, who provided excellent service and was always attentive.

We visited Don Ciovanni for the first time in a while, and I have to say: it was truly delicious. The service was fast, courteous, and they even accommodated my special request. The value for money is completely acceptable, and the ambiance is exceptionally romantic. Even though the journey may be a bit difficult due to the many construction sites and road closures in Leipzig, a visit to Don Ciovanni is definitely worth it. You'll be rewarded with good Italian food, wine, and beer 😋. By the way, if you're not from the area, there are also cozy rooms to stay overnight 👆 We'd love to come back. It was a rather disappointing visit. We waited over an hour and a half for our food. The starter plates were a hodgepodge of antipasti, killed by balsamic cream. The food was moderately seasoned; yes, that's purely a matter of taste. One dish arrived incorrectly, so we had to wait again. The drinks didn't arrive in a cooler, meaning the half liter of wine was warm after 20 minutes. The dessert was okay, but the cream spilled out of the cannolo. The service was nice, but some of the dishes were cleared away inappropriately while people were still eating. All in all, okay, but we won't be eating here again any time soon.

Great value for money and a very good family-run restaurant—a top-notch institution in Leipzig, with very freshly prepared dishes and friendly service.

We ordered food for pickup and specified 4:45 p.m. We were then confirmed for 5:15 p.m. Since that was too late for us, we called to clarify that 5 p.m. was possible and that we could pick it up at 5 p.m. We received our food at 5:20 p.m. Apparently, the information never reached the kitchen. I can't comment on the hotel.

[Restaurant Review] You can do it once, but you don't have to be a "regular" customer! Where do I start? 🤔 I can only recommend everyone to order an appetizer! We had to wait well over an hour after ordering for the [not exactly generous] main course! There were four of us, and "unfortunately" only two ordered an appetizer. The small beef fillet [Bistecca di Manzo Vip], for a whopping €36.50, was unfortunately not "medium" as ordered and was very tough! The "crazy chicken" [Pollo cattivo] unfortunately had a lot of skin and fat! The appetizer and dessert were really good and fairly priced, too! Unfortunately, we can't recommend the meat main courses! We also noticed the "hardware" negatively. The tables were too small for four people, so you had to share space on an uncomfortable chair with the table leg between your thighs. If you sat at the front, you would have been sitting in the annoying foot traffic! The plates [for the appetizer] had chipped corners on two of the four!

This hospitality is a must-experience. You immediately feel at home, and there's no such thing as a bad mood there. I've been a regular customer since the 90s. The prices are also great.

Yesterday, we redeemed our voucher for a candlelight dinner for two people. Right from the start, we were warmly welcomed by the grandmother of the house and shown to our beautifully decorated table. The brief introduction about the history of the family and the house was very interesting. Grandma, keep up the good work. The four courses we then enjoyed were authentic Italian cuisine of a very high standard. In short, a restaurant you simply must visit. Thank you for the wonderful evening.

Yesterday we went to the cooking course at the Don Giovanni Restaurant/Hotel in Leipzig. Despite the fact that it is on a busy street - after we entered we couldn't feel or hear anything about it. A lovingly Italian decorated restaurant. Our heartfelt thanks go to the entire team for making us... - received such a heartwarming welcome -we were able to sit at the lovingly set table -We were wonderfully accompanied in every step by Ms. Natale - were able to learn some secrets of Italian cuisine -We were able to enjoy the delicious menu -were treated kindly by all your colleagues -simply had a successful evening! We celebrated our daughter's birthday in the restaurant and were very excited. There was a professional agreement in advance. A beautiful table was set up for us in the beautiful ambience of the winter garden. The food was all very tasty and the service was really good. A really successful evening. Many thanks to the team.

Very nice rooms, totally playful and beautifully decorated, you can sit great. Depending on the service staff, you could check on the guests a little more often. You wait a little longer even though there aren't even a handful of guests there. But otherwise the food is very tasty and we think the prices are still okay. A Campari Spritz is a very good size for €7.50. You can only get half the price elsewhere.

Leider enttäuschender Besuch. Der Service war mangelhaft – unaufmerksam und wenig bemüht. Der Hauptgang war passabel, aber das Dessert (Panna Cotta) viel zu süß. Wir haben es zurückgegeben, mussten es aber trotzdem bezahlen. Kein Entgegenkommen oder Verständnis vom Personal. Schade – so gewinnt man keine Stammkundschaft. Was mich jedoch besonders irritiert hat: Nach meiner ehrlichen Google-Rezension wurde diese offenbar gemeldet und verschwand. Die Reaktion des Restaurants auf andere kritische Bewertungen ist zudem oft unhöflich, teils sogar herablassend – für mich ein absolutes No-Go im Kundenumgang. Konstruktive Kritik sollte ernst genommen und nicht mit patzigen Kommentaren beantwortet werden.

We were there with a large group. The food is so-so for the prices it could be better. The salami pizza was dripping fat, the chicken was also very oily, etc. The rooms look like those of the junk professionals - everything is covered with decorations, so it's a bit tight in some places. The quality of the food is better.

We celebrated our funeral service at Don Giovanni. Our table was beautifully decorated upon request. The waiter was very attentive. The food tasted very good. It was a worthy celebration. We say thank you to the whole team.

I was completely thrilled! The Italian restaurant far exceeded my expectations. We were warmly greeted as soon as we entered and the service was consistently attentive, friendly and professional. The food was simply fantastic – authentic, fresh and prepared with a lot of love. I would particularly like to highlight the homemade pasta and the pizza from the stone oven - an absolute dream! The wine selection was also excellent and went perfectly with the dishes. The atmosphere was cozy, stylish and yet relaxed - you immediately feel at home. You can tell that people with a real passion for good food and hospitality work here. I will definitely come back and recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Italian food and wants to have a special evening. Bravo and thank you!

The cooking class was very good. The tips were really helpful. The drink service was very slow. But everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Always happy.

We had dinner at the restaurant. You should make a reservation in advance. The ambiance was surprising, but I found it classy and a bit kitschy. The service was excellent. The food—it was a pizza today—tasted like a good pizza should. A few more toppings would have been nice, though. The dessert, creme brulee, was incredibly delicious. Finding a parking space wasn't so great.

We went to the cooking class at Don Giovanni today and were thrilled. With guidance, we prepared a 3-course menu that can also be cooked by non-cooks. It was just delicious. We learned a lot about Italy and its cuisine. The information about olive oil and other ingredients was very informative. I will shop differently in the future. From the food to the service, everything was top notch. We were able to attend a cooking course organized by Mari, we were able to take a lot of things with us and learn new things. We asked if we as guests could park in the empty parking lot for hotel guests, as the area is very full of parked cars - we understand that, residents have priority. Unfortunately, we were denied this on the grounds that only hotel guests are allowed to park there. I have no understanding of why an empty parking lot cannot also be used by restaurant guests. The food was OK, but it didn't blow us away. The service could be better. The ambience takes some getting used to. Next time, it will be the Italian restaurant on Jacobstrasse - from the ambience to the food and the service, it's simply amazing.

The Italian around the corner. Every now and then I go there when I want to eat a good homemade pizza. Great, spacious ambience, nice service, very good prices.

We had dinner here on Valentine's Day evening. The rooms were very nicely decorated. Our request was taken into account to get a table at the edge where we could have some peace and quiet. The food itself was very tasty. We decided on the candlelight dinner. As a woman, I got tired of it, but my partner didn't. For €48, it's a bit of a shame that the portions were so small when normal dishes are larger. Overall the atmosphere was very pleasant and we had a lovely evening!

My friend called specifically to make a reservation, we were told no problem, come over in half an hour. The staff then simply hung up without us being able to say anything else. We thought it was okay, let’s just go. We had to walk a long way there because of the cold, only to be cheekily told that nothing was available anymore. Simply bad service! Not recommended

We once again had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Don Giovanni in Leipzig! The hotel is beautifully decorated in Italian style, very romantically located, and furnished with great attention to detail. The rooms are wonderful, and dinner in the adjoining restaurant is always an absolute highlight. The atmosphere is simply unique: everything is very tastefully designed, combined with extremely friendly and professional staff – from the booking process to the farewell. We would especially like to mention the breakfast waiter (unfortunately, we don't know his name), who, with his warm manner, anticipates your every wish and ensures a perfect start to the day. We have stayed here several times and are always impressed. We keep coming back, and we are already looking forward to our next stay. Another plus is the on-site parking, which makes the stay even more convenient. An all-around perfect experience – many thanks to the entire team!

Dear Signorina Marilu, Thank you very much for the very educational and entertaining cooking class on November 17th, 2024 We had a lot of fun, the dishes prepared were very tasty, and the service was very good. We felt very comfortable; the tips and tricks shown when making the individual courses can also be used at home. We were able to enjoy the prepared dishes together at a large table; the service was always nearby to accommodate our requests without seeming intrusive. Gladly again. Be careful not to order pizza for delivery online! Pizza is not delivered, pick-up only possible. However, delivery can be selected and costs €4.99. Fault lies with the restaurant. No customer-oriented accommodation that pizza is still delivered. Just cancel and you'll be left without food on Sunday evening. We enjoyed being guests at Don Giovanni. Unfortunately not anymore.

I am positively surprised by this hotel! I would wish for everyone everywhere! 100% hospitality, very emphatic. A young-at-heart, older, smart, attractive and lovely lady showed me my room, which is typically Italian furnished. The inner courtyard, the restaurant is awesome! You feel Italy and think you are right in the middle of it, even though you are in Leipzig. Unfortunately it is not barrier-free, just for your information, as there are stairs. A warm atmosphere in general, the best reception I've ever had! Here you experience Italy, here you taste Italy. Breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m., for early risers...go jogging or have a relaxing morning😉. I can experience breakfast tomorrow and then continue writing!

Regarding the restaurant, we were seven people with reservations. The ambience is great, the food is very, very good (even gluten-free pizzas). So far, so good: After ordering a drink after the main meal, we were ignored by the staff for half an hour (!!). That doesn't work at all. We all sat for a long time with empty glasses and might have wanted to order desserts in addition to drinks. So we went to the counter, paid and left. Too bad.

We booked a cooking course here at the Don Giovanni Restaurant with dear friends and were there last Sunday. That was really great!! We prepared (almost) all the ingredients under the expert guidance of chef Marilu and were given a wonderful explanation of how and why certain dishes are prepared. The tips alone for a successful bruschetta were worth their weight in gold and how to distinguish good from bad olive oil gave us all an “aha”. The food was delicious and we enjoyed it in the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. A real recommendation for everyone who wants to eat delicious food and learn something worth knowing about Italian cuisine in an entertaining way.

Everything ok, gladly again! The Menu2 cooking course with the finest ingredients was a highlight that we remember fondly. Even little things like the olive oil test gave us valuable insights.

I was a guest at Don Giovanni from Friday to Saturday. I had a single room. WiFi is offered but unfortunately I had no reception in my room. The description offers “free parking and free street parking.” The hotel's own parking space still cost €9.50. Whether someone likes the ambience or not is ultimately always a matter of taste. Facts offered that do not correspond to this speak for themselves. The room was clean, the food was good and the breakfast was also very satisfactory. I give the three stars precisely because what is offered and what is available does not match. Either keep your promises or describe them in more detail - unambiguously - or just leave them out. The location - I was in Leipzig for one night on business - was very good for me. I found out about day Don Giovanni's website in advance and compared it with others. Unfortunately, these two points were not correct. Please work on it

My taxi driver had recommended the restaurant to me the day before and I have to say it was a very good tip. The service was very nice, the ambience was definitely an eye-catcher and the food was simply delicious. If I were in Leipzig again, I would definitely make a trip here again.

Yesterday we wanted to end the evening at Don Giovanni after a great concert. Unfortunately it was very cold in the restaurant and there were hardly any visitors, including us, who didn't put on their jackets during the course of the evening. The food was only lukewarm given the cold surroundings. We therefore sent 2 out of 3 meals back. Unfortunately, the evening didn't end as beautifully as hoped.

Schon beim Reinkommen etwas schwierig: der Kellner, kein Italiener, am Empfang war der deutschen Sprache nicht mächtig! Der Kollege, der uns an den Tisch führte, hatte nicht gehört, dass nicht alle angekündigten Gäste mitkommen konnten und nahm die Bestellung erst nach Aufforderung auf - kann passieren! Der Wein -Nero d‘Avola- war seinen Preis wert! Die Vorspeisen : Tomatensuppe war gut aber nicht richtig warm! Beim Vitello Tonnato war das Vitello gut, das Tonnato schmeckte nicht ausreichend nach Thunfisch und Kapern, zu sehr nach Mayonnaise! Dann warteten wir auf die Hauptgerichte - im kühlen Gastraum und zogen, wie auch andere Gäste (etwas mehr als halb besetzt) die Jacken an - und warteten und warteten! Mein Essen -Wildschweinkeule mit Rotkraut und Klösen- war auf dem großen Teller etwas verloren! Leider war der erste Bissen Kloß und Fleisch zu kalt - gerade mal noch lauwarm. Habs zurückgehen lassen. Was auch freundlich angenommen wurde und versichert, dass es neu zubereitet wird! War dann auch gut. Parallel dazu hatte unser Freund sich auch über seine Calzone beschwert, da auch diese nur lauwarm war. Hatte aber Hunger und ass zwei drittel auf, ließ den Rest zurück gehen weil dann kalt! Schade!

Since we really like Italian food, we decided to go to this restaurant for our girls' night out yesterday. Even with the drinks the euphoria was gone. There was no life to be found in the Aperol Spritz. So we were hoping for food. The starter didn't have the usual Italian menagere with oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. Otherwise the starter was ok. After we had to wait an eternity for it, the main course wasn't particularly filling and the chicken wasn't cooked through. So we could have happily left that out. The highlight of our visit, however, was the cat that ran through the restaurant and was warmly invited by the owner to stay. Because when we signaled that we didn't like it, he told us that it was his cat. So we questioned whether this fits in with hygiene. Since, as the operator has already responded to previous recessions, there are many other restaurants in the city, we will probably prefer one of these next time.

Wir wollten mit Freunden gemütlich zu Abend essen und waren um 19:30 Uhr nicht die einzigen Gäste. Es schien gemütlich, vielleicht etwas zu viel Deko, aber das ist Geschmackssache. Musik lief und die Kellnerin nahm die Wünsche entgegen, die Lieferung dauerte. Das Essen kam, die Lasagne war mega klein und schmeckte säuerlich und das Hackfleisch war kaum zu finden. Die Pizzen waren ok. Gehen 20:30 Uhr verliesen die restlichen Gäste das Restaurant, die Musik ging aus und wir fühlten uns ulkig...sollten wir jetzt gehen? Auf Nachfrage wurde die Musik wieder angemacht uns aber zu verstehen gegeben, dass man dann schließen wolle. Ca. 21:00 Uhr löschte manum uns herum das Licht, die Türen wurden verriegelt und nach dem Bezahlen bat man uns, den letzten Ausgang zu nutzen. Ich glaube, man sieht uns hier nicht wieder. Schade, denn wir fahren sehr gern früher hier, als es noch an Illaienische Gastfreundschaft erinnerte...

Great family-run hotel with nice rooms

We spontaneously went to eat there as a couple. The food was very good and tasty. Friendly service always asked if everything was ok. Pizza and pasta very tasty. Tiramisu dessert is a dream. During the meal we had a nice chat with the Grand Dame and later when we left there was a short conversation about the ambience and the smoking room. We recommend. Always a pleasure when you are in Leipzig.

We were there very spontaneously without a reservation after years, at first they didn't want us there without a reservation. Then we were let in and lo and behold everything was empty. The service was okay, but the food was, like years ago, very little and cold. But well, it still seems to be going well.

I can't say anything about the hotel, but the food in the restaurant is excellent and the service is very good. Really Italian in terms of both the atmosphere and the food (keyword: carbonara without cream, as it should be!) Only recommended!

Well, we were there 2 years ago and stayed for 2 nights. It was really nice, from the room to the breakfast. Nice staff, everything was perfect. But this time, we were very disappointed. The shower head in the room was broken and the toilet service for the sink didn't work for us. The worst was the breakfast. €25 per breakfast for 2 people. We thought we were falling from faith. See picture. There wasn't anything else. The sausage was rancid and had probably been sitting for a while. We only had one cup of coffee. And not to mention the construction site in front of the door. Unfortunately we had no information about the construction site when we made our reservation. We were really looking forward to the hotel because we had a good experience. But this time it was a disaster. It's a shame, the atmosphere in the inner courtyard is really great.

We stayed here in the summer of 2022 when I was visiting to have a major surgery in Dusseldorf (I’m from the USA) when we checked in here we were very stressed and anxious. The staff did everything they could to make a short stay there (until I left for surgery) incredible! They helped us get our lost luggage back from the airlines, set up a romantic dinner for me and my husband to help us unwind a little, and so much more! The food was also delicious as well! Highly recommend :)

We had dinner in the restaurant. It looks inconspicuous from the outside, but the ambience and interior are wonderfully designed. The waiter was very accommodating. We pre-ordered and everything worked out great! The staff is very friendly and nice. The food was very tasty and highly recommended. The ambience was very nice and it is really well decorated. Prices are reasonable. So we recommend a visit!!! We will come back in any case.

The hotel is beautifully decorated with lots of small details without being kitschy. The restaurant was the first Italian to open in Leipzig after reunification. The daughter now runs the hotel and the restaurant. We really enjoyed our stay.

My family and I have known Don Giovanni for a long time and unfortunately I have to say: it is no longer what it used to be. It used to be as promised on the website (... and spoil you in our stylish rooms with only the best of Italian cuisine... the chef presents you with dishes using only high-quality Italian seasonal products.) Today was either An assistant cook is at work, or there is other staff in the kitchen... The ingredients are still of high quality, but unfortunately very poorly prepared. The wild garlic risotto from the daily menu contained more wild garlic than rice and had the consistency of sushi rice. Furthermore, the cook was obviously in love with several women... It was almost impossible to eat because of the salt. Asparagus au gratin as a starter... top in terms of taste and seasoning, unfortunately the asparagus had the consistency of kohlrabi, it was actually raw. This was noted by the waiter and he promised improvement. The entrecôte with asparagus and rosemary potatoes that we ordered came and again the asparagus was practically not cooked. The meat was very good, but no questions were asked about the degree of doneness. An absolute no-go for a restaurant in a hotel. The potatoes were only lukewarm and pretty wrinkly; they had obviously been lying around for a long time. All of this for around 35 euros..... is clearly not a reasonable price-performance ratio. The CARPACCIO TRADIZIONALE had obviously been cut for a long time and the meat juice was already collecting on the plate. In the case of POLLO ALLA GRIGLIA, the mushrooms were so salty that unfortunately they had to stay on the plate. The same problem with the potatoes as with the entrecôte. The children present all had pizza. Unfortunately, this was the only one that was outstandingly good. However, the pizza was forgotten and only brought when asked. The children were the last to get their food. Unfortunately, the salami that was on the salami pizza still had the peel on it... Even in a restaurant that wants to have such a claim, it's an absolute absurdity. A Pizza Funghi was completely forgotten and then had to be taken away. The person who ordered this could not dine with the other guests. Regarding the ambience, it is typical Don Giovanni, actually very nice. Unfortunately, the beautiful glass ceiling of the restaurant was covered with green-blue cloths and all the guests looked as if they were sick, a little green in the face. It should be said that the waitresses and waiters were without exception very nice, friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, a young colleague smelled strongly of sweat, which is not necessarily nice when he serves food. But he was nice. Conclusion: "Dove c'è luce, c'é anchore ombra" - Where there is light, there is also shadow unfortunately unfortunately the quality has deteriorated very much and can no longer be compared with previous visits. I can't say anything about the rooms, we visited the restaurant (spontaneously without a reservation on a Saturday evening). Incredibly tasty, absolute recommendation. Great and quick service, very nice boss. The next time you visit Leipzig, (at least) one meal in Don Giovanni's restaurant is definitely on the list.

In mid-May we booked a cooking course as a team event at Ristorante Don Giovanni. We were warmly welcomed by the Italian chef Marilu Natale and then assigned to chopping, stirring and kneading. Charmingly but firmly, she guided us through the preparation of the three courses, which also tasted delicious thanks to clear instructions and plenty of good olive oil. A review can only be given for the restaurant - but this restaurant is a real asset to the south-west of Leipzig. The food tastes great, the bruschetta and pizzas are super tasty. Although the prices are a little higher than what you're used to, the quality of the food, the welcoming atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff make up for it all! We would love to come back!

Thank you very much for the wonderful evening. We went to the cooking class as a handball team. We really learned a lot and definitely had a lot of fun. Plus it was absolutely delicious😋. I can only recommend the cooking course to everyone.

Well, I've known the restaurant for several years now, and unfortunately I have to say that it has fallen into disrepair. A candlelight dinner with 2 paper flowers in a glass, a candle on the table, and a buffet costing €10.00 is quite a feat. The food no longer tastes like it used to, the asparagus was still half raw and the creme brulee in the middle was ice cold. The ambience was still a dream, but unfortunately the quality was very poor. Too bad.

The toilet didn’t lock and the door was see-through. 3/10”

Were on April 14th. The cooking class was very nice. Detailed explanation, nice atmosphere. I can only recommend it.

I've been there every now and then over the years. This time I was really surprised at the price for less and less food. A pity. Painting supplies for children and the ambience itself were positive, even if it may seem overloaded here and there.

Positive: atmosphere and rooms Negative: Operation and service; First we waited forever for the food, then the main course came while we were still having the starter and we hadn't even finished our pizza when we asked for dessert. A no-go! The pizza was also tasteless and the ice cream wasn't thawed properly. And at proud prices...

Rating is for the restaurant because we were not in the hotel premises. Went there spontaneously for dinner this evening. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is very well prepared and tastes fantastic. The portion size is just right so everyone gets full. The price is a little more expensive than average, but it is also an experience in terms of the furnishings, the atmosphere and the food on offer. Therefore highly recommended!

We had dinner there on a Saturday evening. Reservation was super easy via Open Table, just as you would expect. We were warmly welcomed and had a nice, comfortable table. The order came very quickly and it tasted really good. I can recommend the restaurant to everyone. There is also enough space for larger family celebrations and groups.

I've never had Italian food as bad as here Food arrived after 1/1/2 hours and was cold, portions small and overpriced. There was no spices for seasoning. We were placed next to the toilets where the smell dominated. But the service staff were all nice

I had the opportunity to use the hotel and restaurant. At the beginning I was a bit overwhelmed by what I thought was a somewhat playful atmosphere. But as the process progressed, I had to admit to myself that everything seemed quite authentic. Details of the Italian lifestyle are hidden everywhere and you can easily escape from everyday life with the right music in the restaurant. The staff is very committed.

We celebrated our son's completion of his education with dinner. The restaurant was busy on Saturday evening, but there were enough and very friendly staff at the start... so the waiting times for food and drinks were completely ok. The starters and main courses were beautifully presented and tasted very good. So overall a very nice evening, I'd love to do it again

I had an excellent meal in the restaurant on February 4, 2024 and was very surprised by the lovingly furnished hotel room. All in all, a very good price-performance ratio for this beautiful ambience. I just had to wait a bit for service, which was probably due to the large crowd. A visit to this restaurant and hotel is therefore highly recommended.
