Don Camillo & Peppone in Leipzig

We went to this Italian restaurant as a couple. The pizza was very good and so was the service. We would love to come back.

Nice restaurant in the city center.

I visited the restaurant based on a positive review and decided on the carbonara - unfortunately that was a mistake. The sauce had a very intense egg taste and was overall rather bitter. I suspect that the pasta was too cold and the egg couldn't set properly - unfortunately that spoiled the taste of the whole dish. It's a shame, I was really looking forward to it.

I ordered a carbonara, it was the BEST I've ever eaten, made with guanciale ham and love. This Italian cooks traditionally and is absolutely recommended. The service was great, I'll definitely be back.

Upstairs is a little noisy, downstairs is nicer. However, it’s a good place to have dinner, for example, in the evening.

It's been a long time since I've had such good pizza, the staff was super friendly and everything went great!

Very nice, unassuming restaurant. Eat like in Italy. Pasta also available gluten-free upon request. We'll be back.

We really liked the restaurant, we were a bit skeptical due to the previous recession, the pizza was extremely tasty, both the calzone and the Italian pizza with the burrata on it, the Becks draft beer was fresh with Krone and the Aperol Spritz was excellent, the service was attentive and very, very friendly, we can't understand the bad reviews and here's another photo of our pizza

Wir waren zu Zweit auf der Suche nach einem etwas ruhigeren Ambiente nach dem Besuch des recht vollen Weihnachtsmarkt. Das ist uns durch Zufall gelungen 😀 Im Don Camillo e Peppone wurden sehr nett begrüßt und haben köstliche Vorspeisen und eine echte sehr gute Carbonara verspeist. Ein wirklich rundum gelungener Abend in dieser sehr authentischen Osteria! Grazie mille e buon natale

We held our Christmas party here today. The Don Camillo is a very cozy and well-kept restaurant. We had a table on the first floor. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired and we were often left high and dry. We then had to ask the waiter in the kitchen, who was otherwise quite nice. The amount of fillet alla Gorgonzola I ordered was manageable, the steak was good, but the vegetables and potatoes were almost completely burnt so I only ate a little of it. This burning smell always wafted through the room, which we found annoying. I told this to the waiter and he said he says it in the kitchen. Unfortunately nothing more happened. To be honest, I haven't had such a bad meal for 31.90 euros in a long time. The Vitello tonato was solid and the recommended wines were very pleasant. Overall, there are better Italians in Leipzig. It's better not to order a steak.😌

Rarely have I had such a bad Italian meal. It's a shame about the evening. :( The second star is only for the relatively nice service.

My pizza was good, but unfortunately not seasoned. I added salt and hot oil and it was very tasty. The tiramisu was okay. Service very good and friendly, we felt welcome. We'd love to come back.

Worst food I've ever eaten in a restaurant, no taste, noodles too soft, the salmon was hard to find. My friends' desserts were loveless, with Aperol spritz you had the feeling of drinking a finished product.

A very spacious restaurant over 2 floors with outdoor seating and a view of the Barfußgässchen. Courteous service, good ambience, delicious food. We celebrated our class reunion and were thrilled. Thank you.

I'm not sure how many times I've been in this restaurant, it's the best Italian restaurant in Leipzig, I recommend it a thousand times. If you want to eat real Italian food with Italian chefs, this is your only option.

Very tasty pizzas, nice service

I'm not usually a fan of Italian food, but here it tastes excellent (spaghetti bolognese). Special requests such as "extra spicy" are well catered for, the service is very friendly and the seating is wonderful. Price surprisingly good for the location.

Unfortunately, we didn't have much time, but thanks to the very nice and courteous service, the Italian ambience and the very tasty food, we unexpectedly had another vacation in Italy moment. Thank you for that! Special recommendation: the pizza bread!

Perfection is the only word I can use to describe my experience. Authenticity and perfection in a magnificent wedding worthy of the best traditions of Italian cuisine.

Pizza burnt on the edge, dough relatively tasteless. Overall ok, but wouldn't come back. The spaghetti from the special menu only tasted like tomatoes and nothing else. Based on the fairly good rating of 4.1 stars, it's rather disappointing.

A consistently bad pizza!! A doughy edge that is far too large, but the base is far too thin, soggy and mushy. The topping was concentrated in the middle, so maybe half was filled. Mushrooms and ham of the lowest quality. You can get away better at any street sale!

Fantastic Beef Tartare, with ingenious Parmesan Taco to keep it all in place and with a Truffle kick. The Argentinian fillet was cooked to perfection - rare as every fillet should be! The Gorgonzola sauce was a very good addition. Very happy with the service, good wines. The place looks newly refurbished and classy, very high ceilings give excellent atmosphere. Would recommend!!

Great food, great atmosphere! Marika and Vito, the 2 owners of this great restaurant in Liepzig are just incredible. Marika is a great host and Vito a fantastic chef! Pasta was absolutely amazing! Yummy desserts too! Can't wait to going back there next time I am in Liepzig!

So it's a nice restaurant, but the portions are far too small, which meant I wasn't full (I'm a bad eater) and therefore the price-performance ratio is not guaranteed. You should already be full and when the waitress asked if we wanted to order and we said we would like to wait a little longer, we got a reaction with a blur of eyes. Not really customer friendly.

You are greeted and served in a friendly manner, and the staff are very attentive and friendly!! The dishes (like gnocchi) are homemade and taste super authentic. If you're looking for a good Italian restaurant in the city center, I can definitely recommend this one ;)

Fast ordering, slow service. The waitress only said after 36 minutes that there were no pistachios, so we ordered again: Pizza Italia. Current waiting time: 1h15min.Very average pizza, could have used a little longer in the oven, doesn't seem like a stone oven. The Italia had a little less than a teaspoon of very watery Petso on it. In this case, “On the Italia” only means on the Burrata. All in all, perhaps an isolated case but not recommended for the high prices.

Okay, of course, downtown, tourism... but... So the carbonara looked better in the pictures, maybe the chef had a bad day. There was nothing creamy about it. Too bad. And for the price (yes, city center) it's disappointing... Maybe a pizza instead...

We were very satisfied with our visit. The food was delicious (we had the pasta with beef fillet tips and bruschetta as a starter), plus drinks. The service quick and polite. Price-performance ratio top. The only point of criticism... The corner of the table was dirty and was not changed or cleaned. We did this ourselves as best we could. Therefore points deducted here..

Not recommendable. Unfortunately I didn't have a good experience there. Despite the fact that there wasn't much going on, the staff was annoyed and unapproachable, the plates were all chipped and badly "repaired" and the food was poorly seasoned and poorly presented. In the middle of the chic hotspot of Leipzig. You probably don't have to make a particularly good effort to receive guests. The food was a total disappointment. Vegetables still almost frozen, fish not cooked through, everything cold and pretty tasteless. There is definitely a lack of love for the job. the food is ok, the service was quick. Our plates were broken, a no go for a restaurant! and the billing was incorrect. When I wanted to see the bill, the service person mentioned that they had overcharged. there was no apology. I've already left her a generous tip, but there's really no need to sneak out more tips like that. we won't come again!

The service was very friendly. Unfortunately we didn't like the food (except for the starter). The starter was a WGT special. The margherita was very bad (very hard, salty and slightly burnt). The tomato soup didn't have a nice flavor either. The coffee was bitter.

We were visiting Leipzig today and wanted to have a really good time. So we decided on an Italian restaurant. We ordered a salad and a pizza. The salad was anything but what we expected. A strip of pepper, a slice of onion, half a tomato and the rest consisted of huge lettuce leaves that were just supposed to make the plate look full. The price is outrageously expensive for what you get served. The pizza arrived at the table so carelessly prepared and was absolutely nothing special (Pizza Tirolo €16). Advertised with smoked cheese and special ham (absolute opposite was served and very disappointing. We advise against a visit to this restaurant.

We were disappointed with the restaurant, the food and the drinks. The location of the restaurant is good. You can watch the scene in front of the restaurant while eating. The beer served was undrinkable. The smell clearly indicated it. My red wine Montepulciano was flat in taste. The mixed antipasti were okay. The noodles were either cooked too long or too short The lasagne was only lukewarm. The service was fine. There are much better restaurants in Leipzig. A visit is not recommended.

At first glance the restaurant looked very inviting and good. The other guests' food also seemed appealing. The menu is manageable, well sorted and generally offers fair prices. As an aperitif I had a Negroni. Unfortunately, this one probably had water in the recipe instead of gin. That can happen, but it's not that bad. We ordered two pizzas. After 50 minutes I asked if they had forgotten our order since all the guests around us had already gotten food. After much back and forth we were told that the chef had burned the pizza and he could now start with a new one. We didn't want to wait any longer for 15 minutes and paid. Basically it's not a bad thing and it can happen sometimes. However, I found the treatment of us as guests very unpleasant, as there was only a short "sorry" and nothing else was done to keep us as customers. I think we would have waited the time with, for example, a little something at the expense of the house, but because we were hungry and had to deal with it, we went somewhere else. We won't be coming back either, as the range of good restaurants in Leipzig is simply too large to offer something like that. A pity.

We were there on Valentine's Day and we really enjoyed it. The decoration was really very romantic and the table was beautifully set. The service was very polite and accommodating. The food tasted delicious. The only small criticism is that the portions could be a little larger. All in all the visit was very nice.

A great restaurant. Nice atmosphere, but sometimes it was a bit too quiet that you hardly dared to talk. Otherwise: food very tasty, service very nice and afterwards. The only thing that isn't so nice is that you have to leave a few minutes before closing time.

An extraordinary culinary experience! The Spaghetti al Pomodoro was delicious, perfect consistency and authentic taste. The atmosphere in the restaurant radiated cosiness and created a welcoming atmosphere. The chef showed exceptional talent in adding a gourmet twist to traditional Italian dishes, such as adding chopped pistachios, which made the meal truly unique. The waitress service was impeccable, professional and helped make the entire experience even more memorable. A restaurant that can be recommended without a doubt!
