Super friendly service! The food was delicious, and there's a great selection of vegetarian dishes. We were a bit bothered by the overall hectic atmosphere.

We tried several times, but unfortunately, this restaurant doesn't seem to be suitable for us. What a pity!... Grandma, mom, and two children were greeted warmly, but were left sitting for a very long time.... After receiving our food cold and obviously "refreshed" from the day before (we tried to microwave it), our every request was unfortunately ignored, and we weren't even asked if we enjoyed our meal!!! Unfortunately, not for us anymore! All the best to the restaurant!

Beautiful restaurant with delicious coffee, desserts, and even great vegetarian options. I can eat here regularly and continue to enjoy the food. The service is also excellent, fast, and friendly.

One of my favorite restaurants in Germany. Outdoor seating in a beach chair, attentive service, an imaginative drinks menu, and, alongside classics like fish curry and currywurst, there are new dishes like baked cauliflower or the unique fish soup. Delicious!

The island is a fantastic restaurant for lunch, afternoon, and evening meals. Every guest is greeted with a warm welcome, whether with or without a dog (we were there every day with two Golden Retrievers). 10 days in SPO, and every day at the "island" was simply fantastic. I would go back anytime, with very friendly service and delicious food. Awesome, fantastic, always happy to come back. Thank you for the wonderful days.

We went there almost every day of our vacation for coffee and cake. It's a truly cozy, wonderful atmosphere. The adjacent playground offered us and our child the peace and quiet to enjoy our coffee. We'd love to come back.

The place is very nice and the location is good. The food is okay, but I wouldn't go there again. There are few vegan options on the menu (2 - 1 soup and 1 main course), although many other dishes would allow for vegan options; that's a shame. The Insel Helles beer is very good.

Whenever I'm in Sankt Peter-Ording (SPO), a visit to the island is a must for me – it has been for over nine years. Much has changed over time, and yet it remains a special place with a truly feel-good atmosphere. The menu is varied: classics like currywurst, burgers, fish dishes, vegetarian options, and regional specialties. Some of the meat is sourced locally: the currywurst comes from Frisco pork from the Burmeister butcher shop, there are lamb sausages from the region, and the Galloway burgers are made with North Frisian beef. There's also Labskaus – a North German specialty that you can't find everywhere. There's a wide selection for fish lovers, but the price increases of recent years are clearly noticeable here. Fish dishes cost just under €30. You can also see that many guests prefer the burgers or smaller classics. My personal highlight was the smoked salmon burger with potato pancakes – I've had it twice. The combination was perfect for me, and overall, the dish was perfectly balanced. For dessert, I treated myself to the crème brûlée with strawberries – it tasted excellent. The presentation on the plate could have been a little more thoughtful, though. My personal highlight: the Frisian waffles (until 6 p.m.) – with a dead aunt, and the day is underway. 😉 The ambiance contributes greatly to the special atmosphere: the many beach chairs outside, the light wood inside, the cozy booths, and candles. You immediately feel relaxed. Typical of the island: all guests are on first-name terms here. The service is also pleasantly uncomplicated – no one has their own "set table," everyone takes care of everyone. The casual attire with hoodies or T-shirts ("Ready for the island") fits the relaxed style. I used to come here almost every day on vacation, but now I go less often. This is mainly due to the fact that prices have risen noticeably. Nevertheless, for me, the island remains a recognizable place where you feel at home as soon as you step onto the terrace with its beach chairs.

Great 😍 lots of delicious sodas and creative food. For vegetarians, there's more than just fries or "vegetables with vegetables and vegetables" 😁 vegan options are also available.

We waited 20 minutes before a server finally showed up. Everyone was a bit overwhelmed. The food was okay, though...

Finally, someone who prepares delicious food in the evening for those who get hungry later! Special requests were also accommodated at no extra charge! I'd be happy to come back!

We went there twice without a reservation and got a table without any problems. The food was delicious, the fish soup was divine. The service and atmosphere were excellent. When we're back in SPO, we'll definitely be back.

Nice restaurant, friendly service, and a lovely ambiance on the terrace in a beach chair. We had the fish dishes (plaice and pan-fried fish). The side dishes were delicious. The fish, unfortunately, was a bit tasteless.

The waitress (blonde, gold-rimmed glasses) was unfortunately so arrogant and unfriendly that we reduced our order to the bare essentials and settled for coffee and cake. Unfortunately, the cheesecake was soggy, and we skipped the cream for €1.80. We could only see the lunch menu at neighboring tables, so the price/performance ratio isn't right. The ambiance is fantastic, with a great atmosphere right on the promenade, perfect for a drink and a relaxing break.

We ate here on our vacation because we could see the playground from outside and had a toddler with us. We sat right by the playground, had our child in sight, and were able to eat in peace 😉 We're absolutely thrilled with it. I think the price/performance ratio for some dishes is a bit excessive. I had the large romaine salad for €22 and definitely wouldn't order it again for that price. The service staff are super friendly. We'll be back, if only for the playground 🤗

There's not much room for improvement: the food and drinks (coffee, cake, soup), the service, and the terrace in the afternoon sun – everything is perfect. Only the price of everything: local, after all. And perhaps one day they should turn the street into a promenade.

Anyone looking for a culinary highlight in St. Peter-Ording should definitely visit Die Insel. This charming restaurant not only impresses with excellent cuisine, but also with an atmosphere that invites you to linger. The food was a true delight – even more refined and flavorful than expected. Each plate was lovingly presented and demonstrated high culinary skill and fresh ingredients. The service was equally outstanding: attentive, friendly, and professional. As a guest, you feel well looked after throughout, without it being intrusive. Die Insel is a place where you'll want to stay longer – and will certainly return.

We ate at "Der Insel" several times in the evenings during our stay in SPO. Reservations weren't necessary for the outdoor seating. The various fish dishes and burgers were delicious. The tapas are also highly recommended. We paired them with a delicious wine from the Heissler winery. The staff was relaxed and friendly, and there weren't long waits.

The food tasted okay, but nothing special. We had the Friesenknöllchen (Frisian dumplings) for starters, followed by the large romaine salad and the surf & turf pasta, which was unfortunately a bit bland in flavor. Unfortunately, it took a long time for us to order (and it wasn't particularly busy). The starter came quickly, and then nothing happened for a long time. The waiter didn't show up for a long time, and it was a struggle to even ask what was going on with our main courses.

We were here for the Insel Hellen restaurant. It's truly delicious. We can't say much about the food. The atmosphere is very nice with the beach chairs. However, we were eaten alive by the mosquitoes that were inside the restaurant in the evenings. So we left quickly. Otherwise, we would come back.

Well, what can I say when the restaurant doesn't open until five minutes after the official opening time, with the words: "...was so busy... I didn't look at the clock." We arrived at our seats and were told that the kitchen doesn't open until 12:00 PM. It was 11:10 AM. We ordered fish and chips. They were okay. Unfortunately, the tartar sauce was missing. I couldn't complain because I had my mouth full when the server asked if everything was okay.

The restaurant is located right in the center of Sankt Peter Ording. There's a wide selection of dishes (including many vegetarian options). The food was delicious and very fresh. Fish and chips for under €12 was very fair, but the prices elsewhere were a bit higher. The staff were very friendly. We'll be back!

The location is nice, but the service and food don't match the prices you pay. The high chair was dirty and hadn't been cleaned. The fries weren't crispy. And overall, it feels more like a mass-produced restaurant. What a shame.

This makes eating out a real pleasure. We waited about 10 minutes on a Friday evening without a reservation, which was perfectly fine. The service staff were all exceptionally friendly and attentive, even taking the time for a quick chat. The food and drinks were 10/10. Many other restaurateurs could learn from this positive overall experience. We'd be happy to come back.

Very nice restaurant. Staff were friendly at first. Currywurst was good, fries were very good and hot. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case with the burger we ordered. It arrived cold. A new burger arrived very quickly, only slightly warmer. Since we wanted to eat together and not endlessly staggered, we ate the burger. This, too, proves that many people believe that cooking a burger is easy, but it's not. It's also worth mentioning: toilets without soap, and paper waste overflowing in the women's restroom.

We liked this restaurant the best out of the five we visited during our SPO vacation. Pleasant atmosphere, delicious food, and attentive service. We would go there again. For 5 stars, which Google awards are so inflated, it was missing the icing on the cake.

We ate our way through almost all of SPO. Despite the 54 degrees north, the island is our favorite! We sat outside in beach chairs both times. There was always room, even though it was always busy. Great atmosphere, right at the beginning of the SPO swimming center. TOP service! Super fast and super friendly. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Tim! The Insel Helle is by far the best beer in SPO!

The ambiance itself is nice. Unfortunately, everything takes a long time. The food tastes OK, but not so good considering the prices. Charging €25.00 for a burger and fries… would have to be something extremely unusual. Unfortunately, it isn't. Hence the mediocre rating.

Great restaurant with friendly staff. I recommend making a reservation in advance, as it's quite busy. The food is of very good quality and delicious, and the staff is very friendly and relaxed despite the large number of guests. We'll be happy to come back.

The prices are a bit high, so it loses one point. Otherwise, the food is very tasty, and the seating is lovely in beach chairs under the covered terrace.

The playground is great for the children

were there on July 18, 2025. Well-designed location. It's good that you can't sit in a beach chair directly on the street (if you want). There were four of us there for lunch. The food was really very good. Not standard. Someone had put a lot of thought into it. The ingredients, like the feta cheese in the bowl or the salmon in the potato pancake/salmon burger, were really good. Even something as simple as fish and chips was really tasty. My additional highlight was the non-alcoholic beer from Maisel & Friends. I'd never heard of it! Incredibly tasty for a non-alcoholic beer! 👍😎. The prices are really reasonable for Sankt-Peter. We will definitely be back. Thanks also to the team for being open to requests despite the stress and doing so with a smile 😁.

Everything was fine. ☺️ My plaice was a bit watery, but it tasted good. But it was "just" good. The service, however, was excellent!

Elderly and disabled people not welcome. I've been to the island several times, but when I arrived this week with my 90-year-old father, who has severe mobility issues, we were very rudely turned away with the message "no free space." There were certainly free, unused tables!!!! They didn't want us. Even asking for help didn't help. It's truly a scandal! Letters are still being sent to the relevant departments, such as the local administration and management. I will never go there again. Fortunately, there are other cafes in SPO.

We come to SPO at least once a year and always look forward to the "island"! Everyone is very welcoming and friendly.

Food was really good. Service was fast but not very friendly, may be our waiter had a bad day (which can happen) or that's how he is.... But the location, atmosphere and food a good. Huge portions.....

Update: A few vacations later, we gave the island another chance. The food (burgers) was good, the service friendly, and the prices, like everywhere else in SPO, were a bit too high. *********************************** Well, it wasn't bad, but it doesn't deserve more than two stars. Pannfisch (sautéed fish) with three different types of fried potatoes and mustard sauce—pollock and the alleged redfish were indistinguishable, and all three fish were very, very dry. There was also relatively little fish on the plate. The second dish, a redfish fillet, was better than the one in the Pannfisch dish, but we've had much better for the price. Furthermore, everything is designed to serve guests in order to maximize turnover. That's not exactly inviting. Because we only ordered one dish for our 3- and 4-year-old kids, we were given their opinion via the appropriate looks. We probably won't be coming again, which is a shame.

We had waffles. They tasted excellent. I ate them with prunes. The apple pie was also very good.

It was really nice there back then. But. Today, for almost €80 for two people, including drinks, I ordered pan-fried fish and a Galloway burger. I was specifically told three times that the meat for my pregnant friend's burger had to be cooked through. It still came medium, so I politely ate the raw part, and my sweetheart had to pick it all apart. The service also lost a lot of its enthusiasm. But the soups are still probably recommended for lunch.

Dinner for two on Friday, July 25, 2025 We were a couple and had one pasta dish, Surf & Turf, and the other, a Galloway Burger (variant 2). Both dishes were perfectly prepared and served hot by a very attentive young man. A real treat! 5 out of 5!

We came to the restaurant spontaneously and luckily got a table. The food was simply fantastic. You might pay a few euros more, but the restaurant and the staff are truly worth it. Super attentive service. Friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Everything just fits together perfectly: the food tastes amazing, the staff is very friendly, orders always arrive really quickly, and there aren't any long waits, even when it's usually busy. We would come back every vacation 😊

As a small family, we have been regular guests on our holidays on the island for years and have always been very satisfied. But today the service was very bad, and the service was abysmal and doesn't deserve a star. There weren't any crayons or coloring sheets for the children like usual... We had ordered pasta with tomato sauce for the children, but unfortunately, our children didn't like it this time. We, the parents, also felt that the sauce tasted of paprika and not tomato sauce. We complained to the waiter, pointing out the paprika flavor, and were told that this couldn't be right, and that he had been here for five years and knew what the kitchen was cooking. We asked if the kitchen could make us new pasta, but this time just with butter. This was done, but there was no apology or understanding for the rude response. I had hoped for a bit of leniency, but when it came to the bill, we had to pay for the children's four pasta dishes, even though the pasta wasn't tasty and we complained about it. The waiter was probably having a bad day, because he seemed to ignore us and didn't clear the pasta and appetizers we complained about. So we had to carry the dishes ourselves (for the main course) onto the chairs next to the table and, unfortunately, also onto the floor. They stayed there until the end of the meal and weren't pretty to look at. The meal for us parents was very tasty and recommendable, but we said the service had a bad day today. We very much hope that this was an exception and that this kind of service won't become the norm. Because, as I said, we have always been very satisfied guests.

Unfortunately, the island isn't as good as it was a few years ago. The staff were stressed, the food came out very quickly. The fries tasted like they'd been reheated. The portion of pasta was very small. The beef was tough. It's a shame, we used to feel very comfortable there and enjoyed the excellent food. Unfortunately, not much of that remains.

The outdoor seating is beautiful, and so far the prices have put us off a bit. But when I see that a currywurst at the stilt houses costs €19, it's a bit of a letdown. Next time, we'll come for dinner.

Great place for a coffee and a waffle. We had the one with cherries which was delicious. The service was very nice and the facilities very clean. We were not very lucky with the weather but during sunny days it’s likely great to sit outside.

The staff were lovely and attentive but the food was truly bad. Half of the chips were frozen and food arrived within 2 minutes of ordering which you’d think is fast service but actually a red flag. Play area for kids is nifty and sweet. But the food quality is poor and overpriced.

Freundliche Crew, schöne Location, der Wein war auch gut, aber das Essen war wirklich nur Durchschnitt. Schade. Das nächste Mal würde ich nur einen Wein trinken.

Wir waren viele Jahre gern hier und regelmäßig zum Abendessen und haben uns immer sehr über das gute Essen, das zuvorkommende Personal und den guten Team-Spirit gefreut. 2025 sollte anders werden: - Essen immer noch sehr gut, aber jetzt hatten wir 2 Tage hintereinander negative Erfahrungen: - Wir kamen gegen 19:30h und wollten wie immer in den schönen Strandkörben Platz nehmen. Obwohl alles in diesem Bereich (fast) leer war, hat man uns mitgeteilt, dass man leider schon am Aufräumen sei und dort nicht mehr bedient würde. - Auch beim Versuch einen Tag später hieß es dann: man möge doch bitte vorne Platz nehmen; es würde sich hinten "nicht mehr lohnen..." (!) Auf unsere Anmerkung, dass vorne aber alle Plätze belegt seien, hieß es lapidar: dann sollten wir doch warten, bis wieder etwas frei werde... Es scheint, dass "die Insel" es nicht mehr nötig hat, Abendessen nach 19:30h im hinteren Bereich zu servieren oder dass sie einfach genug zu tun haben (obwohl der Bereich hinten doch frei war). Sehr schade - wir sind wieder gegangen und haben eine andere Alternative gefunden - genug davon gibt es ja in SPO. Aber nach so vielen Jahren guter Erfahrungen wundern wir uns schon, dass Gäste schon ab 19:30h (keine späte Zeit, um Essen zu gehen) abgewiesen werden, obwohl doch noch Strandkörbe/ Tische 'im hinteren Bereich' frei sind... Etwas hat sich am Spirit und Entgegenkommen des Restaurants verändert (neues Management?!) - schade: wir kommen definiotiv nicht wieder

An absolute highlight in St. Peter-Ording! We were thrilled with our visit to "Die Insel"! The food was not only delicious, but also lovingly prepared – you can taste and see the quality. But what really made our evening special was the fantastic service. A huge thank you to Anne! We have rarely experienced such warm, attentive, and yet professional service. Anne was wholeheartedly involved, always had a smile on her face, and had just the right instinct for our needs. Whether it was a recommendation from the menu or a pleasant chat along the way – she rounded off our visit perfectly. People like that make all the difference. Thank you, dear Anne – we'll definitely be back!

Ein Wertgutschein ist nicht anteilig einlösbar, das heißt, das wir von unserem 100 Euro- Gutschein (ein Geschenk) unsere 70 Euro-Rechnung nicht anteilig bezahlen konnten, sondern zusätzlich noch einen überteuerten Wein, den wir eigentlich gar nicht haben wollten, kaufen mussten. Diese Bedingung ist beim Online-Einkauf nicht hinterlegt und ist auch objektiv gesehen nicht nachvollziehbar und kundenunfreundlich. Der Service zeigte hier dennoch keine Einsicht - schwach! „Die Insel“ hat uns somit dauerhaft als Gäste verloren.

Preis / Leistung stimmt - sehr leckeres Essen in gepflegter Atmosphäre. Charmante Idee mit den Strandkörben im Aussenbereich für Paare.
