Great atmosphere and relaxed, highly motivated service. Salmon with spelt risotto: to put it simply, unfortunately boring. Hardly seasoned, lacking any finesse. The salmon was almost overcooked. It could be so much better.

The service was very friendly, and a glass of sparkling wine for a birthday is, in my experience, quite a rarity these days – so 5 stars for that. However, we found the food to be mediocre, regional specialty or not. The taste and the balance of ingredients and spices didn't impress us. We won't be returning.

Unfortunately, the service was slow, inattentive, and not very friendly. The food looked very good, but the taste varied greatly. The (standard) cocktails were awful. And the portion of battered fish was very small.

Absolutely delicious food, very attentive service, super friendly people, and really good value for money. The view (if you're lucky enough to sit by the window) is great, the interior design is a bit "modern department store chic," but that doesn't matter; it was simply a wonderful evening.

We were very disappointed. We had reserved a table for 5:30 pm and ordered promptly after arriving on time. However, the appetizers and the children's meal didn't arrive until around 6:20 pm. Due to a milk protein allergy, the children's meal (pasta with tomato sauce) had to be ordered without cheese and cream. This was supposedly no problem. When the dish arrived, the waiter simply said, "Here are noodles in tomato soup." Unfortunately, it was indeed vegan tomato soup that was used as the sauce. As a result, the pasta wasn't very good. The main courses arrived at 6:50 pm. Of the four burgers ordered medium, one was medium, two were between medium and well-done, and one was completely overcooked. We then ordered a vegan dessert at 7:25 pm. This arrived promptly, but triggered an allergic reaction in the child with the allergy, which clearly indicated that the vegan dessert apparently contained milk. Furthermore, exactly two minutes after the dessert was placed on the table, the server came and told us we had to leave because the table was reserved again!?! I've never experienced anything like it... especially while dealing with my child's allergic reaction. Not a word of apology or anything.

We were assured over the phone that we would get a table at the Deichkind restaurant even without a reservation. However, when we arrived, there were no tables available, and we were told, without any real solution being offered, that we were out of luck. This is disappointing and unprofessional. If you can't guarantee such things, you shouldn't make such promises to guests.

Overall, a pleasant evening. The service was very friendly, however, there were some communication issues – our orders had to be repeated several times, and the answers were sometimes contradictory. Things that were initially denied were later found to be possible – this seemed somewhat disorganized and was a bit unpleasant for guests. The food (Scandinavian salmon) was good, but the ingredients didn't seem to be perfectly balanced. It was also a little irritating that a small dollop of mashed potato was charged extra. Finally, the payment process was particularly unpleasant: it was technically impossible to split the total bill in half. For such a refined restaurant, this should really be standard practice.

Unfortunately, there are very few breakfast options near the thermal baths in Sankt Peter-Ording. The bakery shelves were empty, so we went to Deichkind. We wanted to have breakfast there. Due to stomach surgery, I can only eat half a roll at most. Unfortunately, they demanded that my wife and I each pay €28 for the buffet. They couldn't make an exception for me, and half a roll for my wife wasn't an option either. Paying €56 for breakfast is a bit much when you can only eat half a roll (my wife mentioned that she would have eaten a whole roll, too)... incredibly inflexible. So, we'll just skip breakfast today. And then you wonder why a chain like Junge Bakery is so successful.

The food is quite good, but there's a bit too much fuss. For example: a vitello tomato doesn't belong with a salad and dressing, nor with a decorative pesto sauce as a dressing.

The service team is young, with several trainees. Therefore, the service isn't yet top-notch, but they do try very hard and are really friendly. We were there two evenings and the food and drinks were incredibly good. Special requests were accommodated without any problems. We'll definitely be back.

We ate at the breakfast buffet at Deichkind. It was delicious. After a while, the children retreated to the children's play area, so the "grown-ups" could continue feasting.

The Deichkind restaurant in St. Peter-Ording, part of the Strandgut Resort Hotel, where we're staying again this time, as we often do, has unfortunately declined noticeably. The food tasted okay, but not as exquisite as it used to be – my veal wiener schnitzel, for example, was quite dry. The service, last night entirely young men, seemed inexperienced and inattentive: bread and dips, which are usually served as a matter of course, were missing, even though plates and knives were already provided. The tea lights on the tables also remained empty at first and were only lit upon request. Overall, a disappointing visit, where the value for money was no longer convincing. A shame.

After a rainy day, we spontaneously stopped by for dinner and were lucky; we got a table quickly. I ordered tea and a lentil curry (vegan), which was simply fantastic in this weather ;-) The curry tasted absolutely fantastic. It was perfectly seasoned; I highly recommend it. I got a small jar of honey with my tea, which I really appreciated. The staff is super friendly and helpful, responding quickly to requests. We'll definitely be back.

We received a friendly welcome and, after a short wait, were seated without having to reserve. The service was quick when ordering, that was the only thing. Drinks didn't arrive until shortly after the main course. The curry lentils and salmon dish left something to be desired in terms of flavor and seasoning. The plates were perfectly presented. The used dishes were left at the table. No one from the service department was seen again. We won't be coming back. We went by the reviews, which were inaccurate.

The breakfast is super good! There's something for every taste. There are also many vegan options. Afternoon coffee and cake are also excellent. In the evening, the menu is unfortunately a bit limited, especially for those with a smaller appetite and for children/teens. The staff was always friendly.

We first stopped in here on Saturday, unplanned, and immediately felt at home. I was really pleased with the wide selection of vegan dishes on the lunch menu; the taste of the vegan currywurst with its super-tasty sauce and the truly crispy sweet potato fries absolutely exceeded my expectations! So we went back on Sunday for breakfast and managed to snag the last available spot. The buffet was truly a dream! So much choice and superb quality, plus there's even a special section with gluten-free baked goods – really great! We also really liked the atmosphere; even though it was busy, it wasn't too hectic. I highly recommend a visit here!

We were in SPO with our RV and came here for the breakfast buffet. I would give it 6 stars if I could. They also offer a really good and varied breakfast for vegans. The all-inclusive price of €28 is more than reasonable, in my opinion, as it also includes sparkling wine, a large selection of juices (they even had a green smoothie), and various coffee specialties. Our large dog was also warmly welcomed. I can definitely recommend it.

The fried fish was delicious. The waitress with the short hair could use a few more words: "Hello," "Goodbye," "Please," and "Thank you." At first, the cards were simply slapped down on the table without comment. Maybe she was just having a bad day.

The food was delicious, although perhaps they should mention that the burger isn't served in a bun, but on a kind of flatbread. Still delicious. The selection of kids' dishes is also very appealing. There's a playroom for children, where my little girls would have loved to spend the rest of the day.

Given the good reviews, we expected much more. The vegetarian dishes consisted almost exclusively of ready-made products. The burger patties and sauce were from a packet. No vegetables or salad were served. Only the sweet potato fries were very tasty. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this restaurant.

Directly connected to the Hotel StrandGut, you can expect modern, fresh cuisine with a sophisticated touch – sometimes vegetarian, sometimes vegan, sometimes with high-quality meat or fish, but always with a clear focus on quality, regionality, and seasonality. The menu changes regularly, which makes every visit exciting. The ingredients are noticeably fresh, the combinations creative and perfectly balanced in flavor – it's not just "fancy food," but truly excellently prepared food with depth. What I particularly love there: Vegetarian and vegan dishes that don't taste like a compromise, but rather like the best of vegetables, spices, and textures. Fresh coriander, finely blended spices, often with an Asian or Oriental touch. Seasonal ingredients and regional origins – often organic. A changing menu that piques your curiosity. For starters, I had a lukewarm goat cheese salad on thinly sliced ​​beets with fresh lettuce, roasted walnuts, and a mild dressing. The texture and flavor combination was simply fantastic. The main course was a vegan curry. I'm not sure if it was made with lentils or chickpeas, with fresh coriander. A warming, slightly spicy combination with a large, crispy papadum on top – a real highlight, both visually and in terms of taste. The mere sight of it makes you want to order it again immediately. However, as I mentioned, the menu changes regularly. If you like burgers or sweet potato fries, you'll also get your money's worth here – they're homemade and highly recommended. A few more tips: It's worth making a reservation, as the restaurant is often quite full due to hotel guests. You can sometimes get a spontaneous seat in good weather when there are lots of people outside. The ambiance was renovated a few years ago and is bright, modern, and stylish, with plenty of high chairs at the bar. I'm not a fan of the high chairs, but that's a matter of taste. The service was attentive and friendly on all my visits, and the team was well-organized—not hectic, but always present.

The quality is no longer what it used to be. The quality of the breakfast has declined significantly. Many temporary staff are employed without adequate training.

We visited Deichkind for the second time, after January 2025. The food was delicious and the waitress very friendly. Also worth mentioning is the selection of vegan dishes; there's a starter, three main courses, and even a dessert platter with cheese alternatives – truly exemplary! The menu also features many regional products, all of which aren't run-of-the-mill; a great, well-thought-out menu at a fair price. Actually, everything was excellent, and I gave it 5 stars in all subcategories. So why only 4 stars overall (I would have liked to give it 4.5, which isn't possible)? Because the food was served too quickly. We barely had our drinks on the table when the food arrived. Before the drinks, each person was given a slice of baked bread with a spread; we didn't even get a chance to finish that slice. Of course, it was always better than waiting too long, but it took away a lot of the coziness and the "relaxation" and feeling of well-being that I would have enjoyed in such a beautifully decorated restaurant.

We were there for the Strandressort Session. The venue is highly recommended. A small, fine concert, including a sunset. The drinks were reasonably priced, and the small food selection was delicious and of high quality. The entire staff was very friendly. We'll be back, even before the next concert series next year.

Tomato salad Veal schnitzel with mashed potatoes and carrots. There's still room for improvement. Even though the location, right on the village square, is quite good. I like that the menu is small and clear. The tomato salad was ice-cold and practically "smothered" in goat cheese cream from the bottom up. As opposed to "drowning" from the top. Less is sometimes more. And the tomatoes would have been tastier if cut smaller (not quartered). And... as I said, unfortunately, it was pretty tasteless since it was ice-cold. The schnitzel was thin and overcooked. The breading was unfortunately not fluffy and had no buttery taste. A Viennese veal schnitzel is always cooked so that the breading is nicely fried in butter. The ambiance is simple and quite nice. Unfortunately, the interior designer has once again opted for the narrow, square 80x80 "bistro tables," which are barely big enough to place a plate on. The service is OK. Fast and friendly. But please don't address everyone informally. Some guests don't like that (especially older ones). And please serve the food to the guest, not over the balustrade to the walkway. Recommended... hard to say. Always try it. In any case, I won't go there again. I missed the "wow" experience I would have expected given the prices.

The most expensive affogato I've ever had. 0.5 cl espresso with a mini scoop of ice cream for €6.90. I had to wait a bit longer for service, but the waitress was very friendly. Conclusion: You can get it cheaper and faster elsewhere in a similar location.

We had lunch at Deichkind with our two children and dog and were absolutely thrilled. The food was delicious, and we had a lovely meal on the terrace. The service was outstanding and very attentive. Highly recommended!

The service was truly disappointing. After I initially ordered only coffee and water, the staff ignored us—at least we were given the chance to pay. We then indulged my hunger and my champagne mood elsewhere. A return is out of the question.

Dishes lovingly prepared down to the smallest detail, they're on par with top restaurants in New York or Hamburg. Extremely tender meat, locally sourced and responsibly produced, at a very fair price. The decor, ambiance, and service are debatable 😉, but the food is first-class.

After our last visit to Deichkind in 2024, which didn't meet our expectations – the service was really not good that day – we gave Deichkind another chance. Luckily! It was absolutely outstanding! The ambiance – stylish as always! We received a very friendly welcome and were accompanied throughout the evening by the attentive staff. The kitchen team truly enchanted us with their delicious dishes: the table buffet was a poem – a cross-section of the menu! We were there around 4 p.m. to have a coffee and possibly something to eat. When we asked for a table for two, we were told we could choose a seat. We did so and were given ONLY the drinks menu. They didn't ask us beforehand whether we wanted food or drinks. So we sat there for 10 minutes without a single waiter or waitress even looking at us. It wasn't busy, and most of the customers had already ordered. We left and won't be visiting this place again.

The food here was good, and the entire service team was very nice and polite, except for one older employee whose daily rude and rude comments had nothing to do with North German humor. Even a woman who restocked the breakfast buffet, which was excellent, was quite unfriendly and rudely rude. We had a lovely visit to Deichkind. The food was delicious, and the kids' area is very nice, allowing parents to linger a bit after dinner. The only thing we deducted was the price. We're happy to pay for good food, but €4.50 for a 0.33 liter of Coke is a lot.

Addition to the family reunion at lunch on Saturday, May 15, 2021. After four years, we went back to Deichkind for coffee and cake on the terrace in the afternoon. Result: Delicious cake + attentive service! In the evening, we split the meal: My sweetheart had the lentil curry and was happy. I unfortunately had the burger. It arrived just six minutes after ordering, and this combination unfortunately only gets a 3 with a big minus. We both enjoyed the welcome from the kitchen with warm white bread and olive oil. We've decided to choose a different location in the future!

Hey management, we hope you know what a gem you have in Janusz's service: very attentive, friendly, and – very charmingly and unobtrusively – boosting sales. At the same time, he helps the many relatively inexperienced young colleagues and also nimbly takes care of serving, cleaning, and clearing. Finding someone like him in today's restaurant industry is worth its weight in gold! The food was delicious; we especially liked the large selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Prices are as you'd expect from a prime location in St. Peter Ording.

Unfortunately, overall, it was rather disappointing... We were looking forward to a lovely evening with delicious food and saxophone music on the terrace. The terrace is very nice, and the saxophone music was also nice, but the food was average at best: Right from the start, we were very surprised that the food arrived before the drinks. That's more of a sign that the food couldn't have been freshly prepared. The first dish, a beef burger, which the menu said was supposed to be served on a fine salad, lay on a bed of indefinable sauce and a few strips of soggy arugula, with a pale flatbread underneath. The fries were dry and bland. The second dish, a Holstein beef meatball on potato and pea mash with fried onions and braised beef gravy, looked more like a failed Königsberger meatball... The potato and pea mash was quite okay, although it had a rather unnatural green color. The two round meatballs were noticeably too firm and dry in consistency, and the fried onions and gravy most likely came from the convenience store shelf... Despite language difficulties, the service was very friendly and attentive. Our complaint regarding the "fine salad" under the burger was forwarded to the kitchen, but they simply replied that nothing could be done... Conclusion: The price level, ambiance (e.g., printed A3 menus instead of tablecloths), and the quality of the food offered don't match up here. A shame...
