Delicious food in a great location

Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. Schnitzel was extremely thick, marbled, and greasy. The cheese spaetzle tasted "weird" and was too greasy.

Unfortunately, the asparagus soup was a bit watery, and the fried potatoes were mushy and lacked bacon and onions. My husband had steak with it, which was very tasty. I had the beef roulade with red cabbage and hash browns. It was actually very tasty, but the red cabbage was too sweet. My son had a burger with fries...highly recommended. My daughter-in-law had currywurst with fries. It was also delicious. The portions were large enough. The service was super friendly. We'd be happy to come back.

We had a very good meal here. There are plenty of outdoor seating areas in Goslar's old town. They immediately brought us a water bowl for our dog. There was also live singing that day. 🙂 We'd love to come back.

Tried a schnitzel with a type of blueberry sauce, it was the first time! Fun taste experience even though it's not a new favorite. The schnitzel was very good on its own too.

We dined here with a wedding party (almost 40 people). The staff was very friendly, drinks were always prepared quickly, and the wait time was quite short considering the amount of food. Guests' special requests were accommodated, and a separate table was even set aside for the guest book.

Lovely buffet breakfast and very welcoming, friendly service. Lovely location and nice set up, especially for those who like rustic style like me. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't as tasty as hoped. Noodles were overcooked, and the schnitzel was tasteless.

Good location but disappointing experience The restaurant is very well located, right in the historic center of Goslar, with terraces that allow you to enjoy the local atmosphere. We found a table quickly and the staff was very friendly. The food arrived promptly. However, several aspects marred the visit. I ordered a burger, which, although listed as such on the menu, turned out to be a bun with a thick, hard-to-chew chicken fillet. It was neither well-assembled nor well-contained, making it uncomfortable to eat: it fell apart easily and didn't include a central skewer, as is usually the case. The onion rings? Too greasy. The beer wasn't cold enough, and the distance between the (fixed) seats and the table was awkward, making it difficult to eat in peace. In addition, there was a hygiene issue with one of the dishes that shouldn't happen in any establishment, further affecting the overall impression. Despite the good service and location, the quality and attention to detail were not as expected. I wouldn't repeat it.

Brewery... we went there with a group. Unfortunately, the wait times were quite long. Good, inexpensive food. Unfortunately, it smelled strongly of cleaning products. This, mixed with the smell of the food, wasn't very pleasant. The staff lacked warmth.

The online reservation worked perfectly. The service staff were very friendly and attentive; a great team. The food—roulades with red cabbage and hash browns—was truly delicious and tender as butter. We will definitely eat there again! And, perhaps not important to many, but with a limited left hand, finally a restaurant with decent, sharp cutlery. Thank you!

During my visit to Die Butterhanne, I tried one of the house's specialties – the Harz Blueberry and Creamy Schmand Schnitzel. The portion was truly generous: a crispy breaded schnitzel, generously smothered in a creamy blueberry and Harzer sour cream sauce, served with crispy fries and a fresh, slightly sweet carrot salad. An unusual but very successful combination! The sauce had a subtle savory note and harmonized beautifully with the meat. The service was friendly and attentive, despite the large number of guests. The interior of the restaurant exudes a cozy atmosphere – dim lighting, candles on the tables, and rustic wooden furnishings create a warm atmosphere. The prices are absolutely justified given the quality and portion size. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Goslar who is looking for creative interpretations of regional cuisine – here, local flavors are reimagined in a particularly delicious way.

A real highlight in Goslar – rustic cosiness, attentive service and regional cuisine at its finest

The buffet selection is disappointing. No yogurt. No selection of local fruit. The coffee is practically tasteless. Many items are presented in the smallest plastic containers. We are here for a weekend to explore Goslar. This, however, is unfortunately disappointing.

The size of the menus was satisfying. The starters were also very tasty. The staff was also very attentive and polite. Easily recommended

The staff there is really super nice and always has a little fun in store. The portions are large and the food is delicious. We had 6 different dishes, only the burger wasn't really good...everything else was really highly recommended! Unfortunately there is no longer a play area.

Stopped here in Goslar for dinner with a whole team for the event weekend on Mother's Day 2025. The service was great, a waiting time was announced - but then it wasn't necessary. Great, varied menu, something for every taste. The cold drinks and beer were also absolutely delicious. We had a great evening and would love to come back - really recommended.

We were there with a larger group, arrived a little later than reserved, everything was problem-free and super nice!

All in all quite okay. Unfortunately, we had apparently not very motivated service, which is of course stupid at the beginning. After the sticky children's chair was cleaned again, we ordered a blueberry sour cream schnitzel with fries and game goulash with rösti and red cabbage. There was also an Altenauer lemonade and a Barbarossa beer (both highly recommended). The schnitzel was delicious, the sauce was relatively tasteless, luckily there were whole blueberries in it. Fries very good, unfortunately no mayo or ketchup without asking. There was also a jar of carrot strips, I have no idea why. Dry, in our opinion it shouldn't have been. Goulash: the meat was very hard, the sauce also had no kick. Overall it was tasty, but it lacked a kick everywhere. Red cabbage good, hash browns good. The presentation wasn't nice. Everything was simply thrown on the plate (see picture of the goulash). Very nice there! Enough space outside and nice and quaint inside. Thanks to a voucher, a main course was free. That went smoothly.

The food was tasty but the spare ribs I had were tough and not well seasoned, they were very dry but they served well and were friendly and within a short time many people could have moved inside due to the strong wind

We were just there... The service downstairs was just as unfriendly as yesterday. Yesterday people even rolled their eyes when we spontaneously asked if there was anything free for 8 people. It wasn't. Okay, understandable on a Friday without a reservation. When we wanted to go to the table we had ordered today, we were told we had not reserved for today, but for tomorrow. And not for 8, but for 10 people? I didn't know we had a new addition? We were then taken upstairs. It was really cold. Then my husband and our friend ordered goulash soup. It was warmed up, not hot, not cold. Our main course arrived quickly. My tarte flambée was cold. We objected to him. Without discussion there was a completely new one. Then I was eating and my son urgently needed to be changed. My husband wanted to get this done. A changing mat is only available for women. My husband was not allowed to enter the toilet because it was a women's toilet. Then I left my new food and changed him. When I asked if they could pack my food because I had the fax thickness, they said: we don't pack it for hygiene reasons but I can bring you aluminum foil and you can pack it yourself... The only reason why I remained so calm was because I was stunned. The waiter who served us was nice. The rest.... Unbelievable

I had dinner here with my girlfriend last night and we were so excited about the ambience, the delicious food and the super friendly service that we pre-ordered for breakfast this morning! Yesterday I had a vegetarian burger with fries and my girlfriend had green tagliatelle with vegetables. Super tasty and large portions at very fair prices! The breakfast buffet was also really nicely presented and sufficient. For us as vegetarians there was plenty of choice. But for meat eaters it is probably the absolute dream. There was everything from bacon, meatballs to fried sausages. Scrambled eggs, herb quark, jams, Nutella, various mueslis,... Simply recommended!!! Dogs (at the neighboring table) are also treated kindly. A bowl of water and a treat were immediately brought out. We'll definitely be happy to come back when we go on holiday in the Harz again!

Very nice atmosphere, service was great. Food is rather mediocre. Carrot salad was just a few strips of grated carrots without dressing, bone dry! Mushroom sauce tasted bland and not homemade. We recommend the tarte flambée wedges with garlic sauce.

The Butterhanne in Goslar offers a really delicious and inexpensive breakfast. The selection is varied and the quality of the food is excellent. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is friendly. A perfect place to start the day relaxed. Highly recommended!

Since then prices have gone through the roof. As a family, we no longer went out to eat in restaurants. But then we discovered this restaurant: we like to eat here because the quality and prices are right and we always like to pay tips here. The restaurant is certainly designed primarily for tourists to visit. But that doesn't change the fact that we were very satisfied after our visit here. We sat upstairs and our waiter gave his all in terms of charm and friendliness. The price and quality of the food were okay and we would definitely be happy to come back. Highly recommended!

Stopped in the charming German town of Goslar for a quick break on the drive back to the UK. My meal at Die Butterhanne started with a delightful bowl of Pfifferlingcremesuppe - chanterelle cream soup with fresh chanterelles and a side of baguette. A warming, earthy dish that perfectly set the tone for the journey ahead! The second course was wild boar sausages, served with hearty fried potatoes. The rich, savoury sausages paired beautifully with the crispy potatoes, making for a satisfying and memorable stop.

We went for dinner a week ago. First of all...we had extremely friendly and competent service. Thank you so much, Petra! Unfortunately, we weren't that impressed with the food. The salad wasn't really dressed, the mushrooms were rather bland and watery, and the garlic sauce came from a plastic bottle. A cozy atmosphere.

Amazing food and staff were very friendly and welcoming. I had the rouladen which was fantastic and so filling! Many people sitting outside in the sun but we chose to be indoors as it was quite hot in the sun for us Aussies! Lovely place and highly recommend.

Centrally located right on the market square. You can also sit outside when the weather is nice. Of course also with regional game specialties. Cozy interior and very nice and attentive staff. I really liked it, I'll be back.

Ich war kürzlich in ihren Restaurant essen und hatte ein Steak mit Pommes. Das Steak war wirklich hervorragend – auf den Punkt medium gebraten und sehr lecker. Auch die Pommes waren super. Was mich jedoch enttäuscht hat, war der kleine, sehr übersichtliche Karottensalat, der als Beilage serviert wurde. Ich bin es gewohnt, dass es zum Steak einen vollwertigen Beilagensalat gibt. Das hat hier leider gefehlt. Meine Freundin hatte Sülze mit Bratkartoffeln. Die Sülze war ebenfalls sehr gut, aber auch hier gab es nur diesen kleinen Karottensalat, der geschmacklich nicht überzeugt hat. Ein echtes No-Go waren die Bratkartoffeln: viel zu dick geschnitten, total weich und überhaupt nicht knusprig – so, wie man es von guten Bratkartoffeln erwartet. Das war wirklich enttäuschend und kann ich absolut nicht empfehlen. Insgesamt war das Essen okay, aber wegen der schwachen Beilagen und den misslungenen Bratkartoffeln gibt es für mich nur 3 von 5 Sternen.

Unfortunately that was missing here. My friend had brawn with fried potatoes. The brawn was also very good, but here too there was only this small carrot salad, which was not convincing in terms of taste. The fried potatoes were a real no-go: cut way too thick, totally soft and not at all crispy - just as you would expect from good fried potatoes. This was really disappointing and I absolutely cannot recommend it. Overall, the food was okay, but because of the weak side dishes and the unsuccessful fried potatoes, I only give it 3 out of 5 stars.

(Roulade de bœuf aux lardons, oignons, concombre, chou rouge et pommes de terre persillées). Chili-Cheese Schnitzel mit Chili-CheesesoBe und Pommes frites. (Schnitzel au chili et au fromage avec sauce chili et frites). Apfelstrudel mit Vanilleeis (Strudel aux pommes et glace vanille). Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Gâteau Forêt-Noire). Irish Coffee. Cafés servis avec leur verre d’eau. Bien située au centre de la ville, proche de la place du marché avec ses cloches et personnages défilants et juste en face de l’église Saint-Marc. Cadre pittoresque en boiseries pour cette taverne populaire, simple à l'ancienne avec une grande carte de plats régionaux et des tables à l’extérieur côté rue. Attention une marche à l’entrée. Pour le stationnement se sera un peu compliqué. Les horaires élargis vous permettent de pouvoir y prendre les petits-déjeuners, déjeuners ou dîners. Bar complet. Etablissement très propre malgré le passage nombreux de la clientèle. Beaucoup de choix dans la restauration. Vous y trouverez des salades, pâtes, burgers, escalopes et autres plats de gibiers du Harz, peu de poissons ainsi que du végétalien. Sans omettre le sucré avec énormes choux à la crème fraîche, des gaufres, des gâteaux et des tartes dans diverses formules. Strudel et coupes glacées au rendez-vous. Possibilités d’organisations de mariages, anniversaires ou toutes autres célébrations festives. Un conseil, demandez à être installé à l’étage loin des groupes de touristes qui investissent la grande salle du bas qui devient très bruyante ! A l’étage pour pourrez profiter à côté d’une petite salle « suite » d’un beau décor dans une atmosphère plus calme. Avec au centre de la pièce un grand vide qui donne en visuel sur la salle du bas. Pas de nappe, serviette en papier. Les assaisonnements sont en sachets individuels. Un serveur bilingue avec l’anglais. Le service sera un peu long car le restaurant est remplit, c’est un endroit stratégique dans la visite de la ville. Outre les monuments de nombreux magasins sont installés de toutes parts. Aucune salade d’accompagnement proposé comme d’habitude en Allemagne. Regret sur le cerf qui est un peu trop salé. L’établissement bien que touristique reste cependant l’un des mieux à préférer par rapport à d’autres ne serais-ce que pour le choix des plats. The food was good, although I would have expected a chicken schnitzel to be breaded like a normal schnitzel. It tasted good. Portions were OK. The Gose light was very tasty and is definitely recommended. The service was very nice.

The dark Gose beer is really delicious! We sat outside in the bright sunshine at the beginning of March, it was wonderful! Unfortunately, the goulash from the lunch menu was a bit tough. The desserts served (waffles, cream puffs) looked very good. Nice service.

Very good solid food and delicious beer. I had the Steigerpfanne with wonderfully tender red deer goulash, apple red cabbage and potatoes and a Barbarossa beer. Both highly recommended, even if some of the red cabbage was quite sour. The furnishings and ambience are a successful mix of rustic and modern. I would like to come back.

Not recommended as a café at all. Coffee was okay, but the cake, as was clearly visible, was from a frozen package. I just tried it, it was still ice cold. This applied to both varieties that we ordered. A later look at the display confirmed the impression. Let's hope it was at least Coppenrath... why I didn't say anything to the waitress? I didn't want her to have to interpret it in a positive way, as she can't do anything about it. I've never rated a restaurant/café before, at least not negatively. But here we were very annoyed.
