DIDI PA - West African Kitchen in Berlin

I went to this place today with a friend of mine cause we wanted to try fufu. I really liked the food and the owner was really kind. I would recommend this place. If you don’t like spicy food you should probably not try it, but if you like spicy food this is the perfect place to go to :)

Nice African restaurant to taste food you are not used to. They have a vegan menu and a meat venue. Some dishes you can choose whether you want chicken, beef or tofu. There is a good variety of meet + rice(or fried plantains) + sauce and a small side salad, and some traditional dishes like fufu. I went for the chicken with plantains. It was ok but nothing I would like to repeat. The chicken was cooked to perfection I must say. But everything else was just as regular as any other restaurant could offer except for the plantains (that are not that easy to find elsewhere). The place is rather small but can accommodate around 15-20 people inside. Plus some tables outside. The staff was kind. Though they looked tires and missed to say “you are welcome” or “thanks” or even “hello” back. Overall a nice experience of you want to eat something out of your comfort zone.

Okays first of all let me speak truth. as a fellow Ghanaian I know the owners of this place and when first coming to didi pa 4 years ago the manageress was the sweetest accommodating female I had met and the manager the most jovial friendly person. Husband and wife with a beautiful son The food was always stunning however the service from the workers was so painfully rude. As INANE said even certain requests are responded with attitude as if the food is free and customers are an offence Yesterday after calling to confirm that fufu was still there I was met by attitude … spoken about quietly in my own language and when trying to speak to the female about being careful when speaking a language that we all share and being mindful after admitting she didn’t say anything negative she then began to scream, what are you accusing me of. Personally I get this from Ghanaians in Ghana who feel inferior to Ghanaians abroad and do not hide the tension in their service. Even after I tipped them not for the service but the food. Why it is painful for me is because i genuinely appreciate and respect my culture and when going to Asian or other restaurants I see the appreciation the comfort the peace the efficiency in the service and a celebration of identity through food whereas didi pa… even on my birthday where I encouraged 5 friends to spend their money they never ceased to disgrace with emotional high pitched non self control people. The chef is amazing the service must evolve and the managers must listen.

When I'm in Berlin, I come here. Small, a bit shabby and the waitresses understand English better than German. But: incredibly delicious food, the vegan dishes are particularly praiseworthy. The bean stew is to die for, the fufu with peanut sauce is to die for. If you want to eat authentically, you're definitely in good hands here 🥰

Amazing authentic Ghanaian food, eaten in the proper Ghanian way. Loved it! For all non spicy eaters, you might want to consider asking for a mild dish 😄

Best egusi soup with fufu that I have eaten in Berlin so far. Nicest service, even if you often wait a long time for your food.

The food tasted very tasty and fresh, with plenty of choice for vegetarians. Service was friendly. We can particularly recommend Fufu with light soup and the Jollof Rice.

First time trying fufu and first time having joloff rice in Berlin. The combination of the two dishes together is awesome and the rich, peanut sauce is to die for. Delicious!

The food (fufu with beef and peanut soup) was delicious but unfortunately way too spicy. I could still eat it but the spiciness eventually completely overpowered the taste. Unfortunately, there was no mention anywhere on the menu that ws could be remotely spicy.

I ate fufu with peanut soup. Unfortunately it was EXTREMELY spicy. This wasn't marked anywhere on the menu :( the sauce itself was delicious but after two bits I couldn't eat any more because it was far too spicy. In the end I couldn't eat almost any of my food. So it was rather disappointing. Well-intentioned tip: please write the spiciness on the card!!! For me, the spicy was comparable to the picture card ramen noodles... you should really know that before ordering

I love everything about this spot. The food is so so good! It's really worth the price. Everything tastes very rich in flavour and authentic. I love the location in Neukölln. Very cute.

Best fufu in town!! But the other dishes, such as Jollof Rice, are also incredibly tasty

I got a beef/peanut fufu. Absolutely delicious. The one star lacking is the absolute lack of nice service, feels like we’re a bother. And from someone used to Parisian waiters, it says a lot

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food and homemade drinks were well prepared. The taste of the food wasn't for me, but that can be different for everyone. All in all a good experience. My only criticism would be that the music in the store was a bit too loud, which made it difficult to communicate.

The food is good. Unfortunately they are quite chaotic there. Despite having a reservation, you wait, Fufu is already closed at 6 p.m. on Fridays, even though most people probably come for exactly that reason. It's also tight inside. If you're unlucky, you have to eat in front of the small toilet where people are queuing. It's better outside, but there's a lot of car traffic.

We really wanted to try fufu and then came across DIDI PA. Ordered fufu with peanut sauce. I was skeptical at first because my girlfriend really wanted to eat it and they are “cooked unripe bananas”. But it was brutally delicious. Of course you eat with your fingers and pull the fufu “dough” apart. It was simply awesome - brutally seasoned and really hot. Price about 10 for it. Unfortunately we only sat outside on folding chairs - but it was okay! I would go there again.

The food was very very tasty! We had the Pepper Soup, Fufu with Beef and Jollof Rice with Tilapia and Plantains. The service was also super nice :) highly recommended!

There is a separate large vegan menu. We had the fufu with peanut sauce, it was well seasoned (slightly spicy) and super tasty! Price is also cheap, we will definitely come back!

Sehr gute Stimmung, but where are my sisters and black brothers???? 😅😅 The food was not bad next time probably trying to eat fufu. Never been eaten white beans this way! But it was delicious! Would be nice having drinks like 0.5l - 1l bottles??? I guess the small bottles are a way to expensive .. except that it was good! Thank you surely coming back! 🙏🏼

I would like to give more than 3 stars because the fufu was delicious, but we and the other guests had to wait 2 hours for the food. I don't know how complicated the process of fufu is, but it shouldn't take 2 hours in a restaurant. We were told every 30 minutes that it would still take a while, but in the end it would have been really appropriate to maybe give a drink on the house or something similar so that the customer didn't leave in such a bad mood.

For the first time we were really happy to be able to try fufu, but unfortunately there was nothing left on Sunday evening. Unfortunately, the rest of the food selection was also limited because there was no more rice. Nevertheless, the meal afterwards was okay. The staff was very nice, but really a bit overwhelmed and unplanned given how busy the restaurant was. Unfortunately the toilet was a bit unhygienic.

Unbelievable! I had the red red vegan. When I got home I had the feeling of missing the food and I wanted to eat the dish again straight away!!!

Here the taste is more convincing than the service and the ambience. The meat fufu and kelewele are absolutely delicious and should definitely be tried!

The food there is incredibly delicious, I rarely go to restaurants but when I do, I go to DIDI PA. I could literally eat there every day. The food fills you up and is just so delicious, and I also like the fufu there the most. I'm already looking forward to the next time.

Rip off. After waiting for an hour and being served all sorts of people who came in after us, we then complained. The manager claimed the fish took so long even though we didn't order any fish. He then took out a calculator and calculated way too much for the food. Because we were fed up, we paid and left. We then saw the correct prices online. We didn't receive any receipt either. Very unfortunate. Good food but a dishonest and unfriendly manager.

The waitress is soooo nice and sweet!! Since it was our first time eating fufu, she gave us really nice advice and even let us try a little bit. The food was incredibly delicious and by far one of the best in Berlin!!! Simply recommended!

I went there spontaneously with my friends today without a reservation or food. Ordering in English was absolutely fine. The food didn't take long to arrive. The service was very nice and the food was very tasty. It's more like home cooking but very authentic. Price/performance ratio is absolutely ok. Thank you very much.🤝😊

The food was really good and we were also given good advice. The service staff did a really good job. Unfortunately, it gets warm and humid very quickly in the store. No air conditioning or ventilation. Otherwise, always happy.

I’ve been here 3 times. The first time went there for dinner and everything was superb despite them not being able to give up a table we reserved for. Second time went there around 4pm we were served fish from the day before but it wasn’t all that bad anyway. The third time was disaster 1. The chef said they had no fish 2. We got chicken and beef (the chicken was dry from the day before) 3. After waiting for an hour only to be told that ouuppsss they didn’t have the beef We complained but the chef didn’t care. The waitress was clueless and it felt like the chef didn’t want to make our food. The boss came and told the waitress that they had beef and 10minutes later booom the beef showed up. It felt like he didn’t want to make new food but instead sale the food from the previous day. It is sad because the first time I was there everything was amazing and this place has the potential of being the most outstanding restaurant if only that chef would feel like serving the people with all his heart. Anyway I was disappointed and def not paying 17€ for left overs ever again.

A very cool experience. For me it was the first time I tried African (Ghanaian) food. Unfortunately the Fufu was already sold out (5 p.m.) but I think “Banku” is comparable. The food was very tasty but also very, very spicy! The spicy hibiscus (sobola) is only for those who can handle spiciness well. But the Jamaican ginger beer was excellent. I think it's very cool that the restaurant also offers every dish in vegan form. The experience of eating with your fingers was also special. There was also a bowl for washing hands at the table. When asked, the employee was very helpful and friendly.

We found it to be a really great restaurant! The service was great and faster than expected. The food was awesomely delicious, we order their mix with three different rice dishes which was alot! Would highly recommend 👌

Very nice West African cuisine. Today we decided to eat at Didi Pa because we have always wanted to eat African food. We were served very nicely and friendly. The food was very nicely prepared and extremely tasty. If you like African food or would like to try it, this is the right place for you.

This cozy place along with the tasty FuFu makes it my go to place every time I’m around the area! I especially love the Peanut Soup with the FuFu

Mega spicy food without mentioning it! Almost hardly any space to sit down. We chose two meals for 11 euros + 1 ball + Fritz Cola and the bill was 29€! You can find much better options for food. Terrible, to be honest.

The food was delicious. Only the Didi Pas special rice plate (3 different types of rice and 3 different sauces for 20€ an impressive price) The service is very friendly (more knowledge of German would be recommended) Unfortunately the atmosphere is horrible. Shaky chairs, the tables are so narrow that you sit back to back with the people at the next table, etc. African music would have been great too. Men's and women's toilets in one is no problem for me. It would just be nice if you could lock the first door too. I was very embarrassed. When I opened the door (there was a men's and women's sign above the toilet), there was a gentleman standing at the urinal.

I think when it comes to proper lokal food I personally wouldn't recommend it (banku and okro soup) . For dishes like Jollof rice or Tilapia, I sure would. Customer service kind of reminded me of Ghana, and that is not in a good way. Had to ask for things like tissue. Water was given to wash our hands but without soap and tissue, and after asking, we were told to wash our hands in the WC. At last, the language barrier, I understand that it's s an African restaurant, but it sure does accompany more Germans, etc. So, at least one German speaking waiter/ waitress should be available. Other customers had trouble interacting with the English speaking waitress, and it was a quite basic conversion that should be easy to be held without problems. All in all it was an alright experience would I come again? Probably not. The space is quite small, but nothing that is upsetting or off-putting.

HOMOPHOBIA. In this world I mean no harm, I just want to exist and support fellow people. That's why I came to Berlin. Sadly yesterday evening I was grossly mistreated by the apparent manager who on the basis of my "openly gay appearance" refused to help me at first. He wanted to give priority to other people who came after me and these people were so kind to help me. Only then the manager accepted my order. The manager shouted at me and belittled my intellect - as if gay people can't do math!!! I just wanted a flavour of home and had to leave Ghana because of homophobia but this manager brought his hatred with him to Berlin. I feel so heartbroken and want to support but this not okay for me or other people like me. Help Sorry o. {response: Didi Pa claims in his reply that I was back again Monday. That is not true.. liar. You care only about your status not care for someone like me. I will never be back.}

Such good and authentic Nigeria food! I had Fufu and Egusi and it was heavenly. My friends had the vegan Fufu and Peanut sauce and it was so good too. Definitely recommend for west African food!

Leckeres Essen, einfach anders, geschmackvoll...

Ich habe schon sehr lange darauf gewartet hier essen zu gehen, weil das Restaurant durch sein fufu Bekanntheit gewonnen hat. Wir wurden als wir ankamen informiert, dass die Wartezeit 40min dauern würde, wofür ich auch vollstes Verständnis habe, weil es ein Kleinunternehmen ist und das Essen seine Zeit braucht. Ich habe das vegane Fufu mit Erdnusssoße bestellt (keine Angabe, dass es ein scharfes Gericht ist). Das essen kam nach fast 1,5 Stunden erst an was schon sehr lange ist und dazu hat man nichts anderes als Schärfe geschmeckt. Dafür, dass es “kein” scharfes Gericht ist und kein anderer Geschmack durchkam, sehr enttäuschend. Ich vertrage eigentlich scharf, aber es war so scharf, dass ich danach magenprobleme hatte. Der Service war anfangs nett, aber gegen Ende sehr unfreundlich Werde hier leider nicht nochmal essen gehen…

There were a lot of people there and the venue is quite tiny , my friends and waited outside for close to 20 minutes before some space became available. After the waitress took our order it took another 30 minutes for the food to arrive. At least there was good music playing. My friends enjoyed their waakye and jollof but my banku was slightly brown and stale, the okro soup was runny. I have shared a video. I was completely disappointed because I was homesick and wanted some good Ghanaian food only to be served this blended version of okro light soup. When I made a complain to the manageress she rudely retorted “ You can’t expect to see okro in the soup. It’s okro soup not okro stew”. Anyway good luck !

We tried a bunch of dishes, but the fufu with beef soup was our favourite. I’d 100% return for that dish. Unfortunately the jerk chicken that was served was an extremely tough texture. Long waiting times, so be prepared!

wir haben so lange auf unser essen gewartet, um die 2 stunden, und jede halbe stunde wurde uns versichert das unser essen in 10 minuten kommt… auch zum bezahlen kommt man nicht, da die angestellten „dich vergessen“.. alles in allem lohnt sich der hype garnicht

Haben 1 1/2 stunden auf unser Essen gewartet. Das einpacken von unserem essen dauerte ebenfalls zu lange genauso wie das Bezahlen. haben insgesamt von 17:30 bis 19:30 in dem laden verbracht ohne großem willen. In dieser zeit hätte man vieles anderes machen können.

Authentic west African food. We enjoyed the ocra soup and yum along with malta drink. It was delicious. Only thing missing is the seating capacity and location. It's small joint.

Sind am frühen Abend hier zum Fufu essen hergekommen. Nach 1.15std Wartezeit!!! Kam unser Essen. Geschmacklich hat es uns leider überhaupt nicht überzeugt, kaum Geschmack, nur scharf. Als wir bezahlen wollten hat wieder ewig gedauert und die ToGo Box mussten wir extra bezahlen. Zum Ende hin super unfreundlich.. würde es nicht empfehlen

das Ambiente, das leckere Essen, die sympathische, freundliche Bedienung. Manchmal ist die Wartezeit auf das Essen etwas länger, dafür ist es aber frisch zubereitet. Und wer die Zubereitung der Gerichte kennt, hat dafür Verständnis. Mit Sicherheit gibt es hier keine Tiefkühlware oder Dosenfood mal schnell in der Mikrowelle aufgewärmt. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder :-)

Wir wollten abends foufou essen gehen, war dann wohl schon ausverkauft. Schade. Die Alternativen von der Speisekarte waren geschmacklich, ganz gut. Eins von drei Gerichten war halt literally ein joke und wurde zuerst ohne Fleisch serviert. Wir dachten daher, das war eine Beilage zu einem der beiden Gerichten. Als wir fragten wo das Fleisch geblieben ist, machte der Kellner ein kleines Schälchen mit trockenem Fleisch und servierte uns das. Einfach das Bild anschauen. Mehr kann man nicht mehr dazu sagen.

Ich war dort zum 1. Mal mit meiner Freundin und das Essen war sehr gut, Service war genauso gut wie das Essen, Also wir können nur weiterempfehlen. #AfricanFoodbestFoodever

My favorite West African restaurant. Very recommendable

I visited this restaurant with a few friends and it was a pretty good experience. The attendant was very receptive and supportive. The okra soup was a bit spicy (to my Turkish colleague) but was alright by Nigerian standard. The jollof rice was great and the plantain and chicken thighs were also delicious. We also had Malta Guiness drinks to go with and it was really refreshing. I would recommend!👍🏾

Very rude owner, who is unable to deal with criticism and talks nonsense. Substandard food, very different from the originals and trying to present something which isn't same as the authentic.

Das Fleisch in der Suppe und vom Kebabspieß war 90% Knorpel und einfach nicht essbar. Dazu kam das Essen zeitlich versetzt 20 Minuten nach den Gerichten aller anderen am Tisch. Eine meiner schlechtesten Restaurant-Erfahrungen in 6 Jahren Berlin. Positiv war, dass gut gewürzt wurde.

Sehr kleines Restaurant eher ein Laden, nettes Personal, häufig wird nur Englisch gesprochen. War schon ein paar mal dort, das Essen schmeckte mir okay, eine 7/10 🌟.

Bin für 1 Woche in Berlin und wollten spontan afrikanisch essen gehen. Im Internet stand gutes also haben wir uns für hier entschieden, war ein voller erfolg hier. Das Fufu war sehr lecker mit der erdnusssuppe hat es nach Kichererbsen geschmeckt aber war sehr lecker. Meine Freunde haben sich jollop reis und normalen reis mit Hühnchen geholt. Man kann nicht mit Karte zahlen. NUR BAHRZAHLUNG MÖGLICH! wie gesagt sehr lecker für so ein günstigen preis. Die reise haben 12€ mit hühnchen jeweils gekostet und das fufu 15€ mit rindfleisch. AUfjedenfall zu empfehlen. Geht dahin!!!!!

Wie hatten den Fisch mit Plantain. Das Essen war sehr gut. Der Service war freundlich, aber man hat ein wenig auf die Bedienung gewartet. Leider ist das Restaurant klein.Deswegen ist das Ambiente nur o.k

The best Fufu i have ever ate! The service is so good and the waitress was the cutest. We’ve been here back in January this year and it was empty, which made us sad because it already did deserve so much more recognition. Now they’re blown up and full all the time. i’m really happy for them!

super lecker, fufu und jollof rice waren ein gedicht. sympathischer mitarbeiter, man muss vielleicht ein bisschen geduld mitbringen aber dafür schmeckt es umso besser!

Smack. Auntie recommended that I try the peanut soup fufu with beef. It changed my life. Between that and the African Fanta, it was well worth the visit.

Kleiner Laden mit netten Personal und vielen veganen Optionen! Wir wollten undbedingt das erste Mal Fufu bestellen, leider war dieses aus und wir entschieden uns für das vegane Banku mit Erdnuss-Soße. Wir haben absolut keine Ahnung wie ghanaische Gerichte schmecken sollen aber das Banku war so unfassbar sauer/salzig, dass wir nach ein paar Bissen „aufgeben mussten“. Das war uns extrem unangenehm aber es ging nicht mehr. Sorry dafür! Die Soße dazu war aber sehr lecker! Für das Fufu, werden wir wiederkommen!

First of all, I don't know what West African food is supposed to taste like. I thought it was tasty, although not too special, I have something similar in my culture. We finished nearly all of it, so I can't say it's bad-tasting. The staff lady seemed to put in effort for our enjoyment though... I ordered plain fufu - yes I know it shouldn't be eaten like that xD but I just wanted to taste how fermented it was! My friend really didn't like it (the sourness) but I thought it was fine. I can't judge so I'll just add photos, which is what I wish previous reviewers did... we ordered veg jollof rice, waakye with chicken and side fufu. My only real complaint is that it gets busy and the lady is SWARMED. Get her some help! Took forever to pay and leave.
