The restaurant was packed, and the noise was absolutely raucous. Considering the number of guests, the two waiters had everything under control. Respect! The food was truly delicious. But the noise and hustle and bustle quickly drove us out after dinner.

There is rarely an absolute recommendation like this.

Menu with a few dishes. The portions are large, everything seems fresh and of good quality. (For the price, the portions for the starter and main course are really good – you'll be full even without a starter.) Drinks came quickly. It took a while for the food to arrive, but it was still reasonable. The only drawback was that dishes that sounded vegetarian always came with bacon on the fried potatoes (without any information on the menu). There is seating inside and outside. It was too noisy for us inside. The heaters outside were turned on upon request. Credit card payments accepted.

We were here with two people at 6:30 p.m., and there were still a few tables on the terrace available. Orders and drinks were taken very quickly, but we actually didn't receive our food until almost an hour later. That's too much, sorry. The server for the terrace area, or even the inside area, seemed to be the only one in the whole wide open space and seemed very exhausted to us, but she was still quick, attentive, and friendly. Thank you for that! The portions were large, everything freshly prepared, and very tasty. (Here and there, the onions on the fried potatoes were noticeably a bit burnt, and the fried egg on the schnitzel was no longer a fried egg.) Due to the far too long wait, we're thinking twice about coming back.

Bring lots and lots of time!!!!

Once and never again. Assigned a table above a basement window outside, changed under comment, not exactly accommodating. The fried potatoes had a hint of old fat, the herring fillets were placed on a lackluster iceberg lettuce. The dill on the lemon was past its best.

Food: Very good. Fish was a bit overcooked, potatoes a bit too soft, but overall excellent. Large portions and beautifully presented! Service: Friendly in principle, but unfriendly when ordering the dishes. When she pointed out that the Captain's Plate only contained cold fish (matjes, salmon, crab), I was surprised, as I wouldn't have expected that from salmon and crab. In response to my surprise, she asked me unfriendly if I'd ever eaten a warm matjes sandwich, as if to say, "Are you stupid?" Frisian humor aside, that's unacceptable. I ended up eating the "Pirate's Bride." Atmosphere: The dining room smells of chlorine. That may be a sign of cleanliness, but it's anything but appetizing. It's also quite stuffy and noisy. Otherwise, the decor is nice.

We went to Pirat with three adults and two children. We ordered a Jägerschnitzel, which tasted very good. Pasta with vegetables. When we asked if the vegetables included pasta, the waitress said yes, but she could order it without. When the order came, there were, of course, mushrooms in the food. The chicken salad wasn't bad, but it could have been seasoned a bit more. The waitress seemed a bit annoyed, but was still very friendly overall.

Terrible service from an elderly waitress! Upon arrival, we waited briefly to see if we would be assigned a table. The waitress walked past us, despite greeting us and clearly indicating that we wanted to stay. The second, male waitress also walked past us. We then entered the restaurant to ask for a table. The elderly waitress, with a disgruntled expression and sweeping arm movements, silently pointed to the free tables inside. A final attempt on my part to remain friendly and patient: I asked for a free table outside. The table was described to us briefly and in an unfriendly tone, instead of being escorted there or at least shown to us. The same thing happened when we ordered. The elderly waitress continued to wear her disgruntled expression and was clearly not trying to be friendly. We briefly considered leaving, but we wanted to try the food. I got sea bream fillet on iceberg lettuce with arugula, tomatoes, diced bell peppers, and grated carrots, along with two slices of cheap (baked-up??) baguette and dressing. The fish was okay, the salad was more like a chip shop. For the price, I would have expected at least a better/higher-quality salad. The Captain's Plate was also overpriced, but very tasty. Card payment is accepted here. Conclusion: We will never eat here again. In our opinion, the elderly waitress either needs a very long, relaxing vacation or another job. With this attitude, she is a nightmare for any guest who is looking forward to a pleasant evening in a pleasant atmosphere and wants to feel welcomed as a guest.

The service was very good. I was given information about the menu, which allowed me to choose a dish according to my preferences. Prices: good value for money.

Big praise for the kitchen! The food tasted great and was beautifully presented. The portions are quite large; if you have a "normal" appetite, you'd better skip the appetizer. The service... could be improved. Technically, everything went smoothly, but not smiling once in 1.5 hours is something a server has to be able to do. Anyone who wants to pay by card should definitely have some cash on hand for the tip. I was rudely reprimanded with a "No tipping by card!!!" (I know, because of the VAT, but most restaurants now get it separately even with cards). Well, maybe we were just having a bad day. Update: After a year, we were back on Wangerooge and at the Pirat again. And we were served by the same staff again. This time, they were super friendly and there was a lot of laughter; everything was top-notch! (I guess I was just having a bad day back then, but that's okay sometimes). We've already booked our Wangerooge vacation for next year, and we'll be stopping by the Pirat again. Best regards to the whole team!

The food was more like a better chip shop...convenience food, but nicely presented...fast, simultaneous service...but...very unfriendly service...you felt like you were disturbing them...just don't ask if you'd like something to drink...it could be that the group (18 people, table booked in advance) ends up staying longer...then they roll their eyes because some people want to pay in cash...and others blame the faulty technology...well...it was an attempt...

We visited the "Piraten" restaurant with our two-year-old daughter. The ambiance is generally pleasant, but the air inside was very stuffy, so we opted for the glass-enclosed, covered outdoor area. Unfortunately, smoking is permitted there – which we found very inappropriate and disturbing, especially with a small child. The food (a steak and a plaice) was okay, but nothing special. The service, unfortunately, left a lot to be desired. The waitress was neither attentive nor friendly – ​​our daughter's spontaneous answer about her meal choice (she wanted pizza) was met with an eye roll and an audible sigh. We couldn't order a second drink either, as there were no waiters in sight. The bill came after a long wait. Overall, a disappointing visit. The restaurant has potential – much would be gained with better service and a more family-friendly atmosphere.

There wasn't enough food on the plate and the knives weren't sharp.

The last time I was on Wangerooge, I think there was a snack bar that I wouldn't have recommended. Now we were there with 6 people for the day. I really didn't want to go in. But when I came in I noticed something was different. We were then given tables for 6 people. The food was really very good, the plaice was great, the schnitzel too, all 6 were very satisfied and were super full. I was really glad I tried it, otherwise I would have missed out on a great meal.

Essen war ok. Mit dem Wildlachs dass kann ich bestätigen, war kein Windlachs. Ich wollte einen kleinen Wein dazu, aber nur 0,1. dann bekam ich zu hören, gibt es nicht. Also den Wein schon, aber nicht in 0,1 ……. Man kann doch dann einfach nur die Hälfte Wein einschenken und nur die Hälfte berechnen. Wo ist denn da das Problem ??? Aber dann nimmt der Kunde halt einfach ein Wasser 🤷‍♀️

We got a table without a reservation because we were there very early. We shared a fish soup, which was served to us in two small bowls 👍. The main courses were very rich and tasty. Freshly fried plaice and schnitzel. The two service staff are whirling around in the restaurant, even though they are no longer the youngest. They are very friendly, attentive and hardworking. Keep track and be friendly. Unfortunately, the open kitchen means that you smell completely of frying and frying fat after your visit. But on the other hand there is water and a shower. We ate very well.

Here at Pirate there are very good and freshly prepared dishes. Crispy and homemade schnitzel or fresh fish with delicious fried potatoes. The service is very friendly and attentive. However, you should always reserve a table for a visit. There are still people who arrive with 10 people at the best time of the meal and think that there should now be a table available for them, even though they haven't made a reservation. If you want to have a nice evening with good food and good service, this is the place for you.

Es sollte Wildlachs geben. 1. Versuch: Es kam eine ganze Filetseite von 20cm. Das sah eher nach Lachsforelle als nach Wildlachs aus. Diese war zudem komplett versalzen. Essen ging zurück. 2. Versuch war immer noch salzig aber etwas besser. Aber es war definitiv kein Wildlachs, sondern eine Lachsforelle

I had very good meals here three times during my vacation. Super tasty fresh fish with great side dishes. Very good value for money and very friendly and attentive service staff! I felt very comfortable and would love to come back.

I've been vacationing on this island with my parents for years - and every time I want to come here at least twice in a week. Even though two really lovely ladies have to operate the restaurant alone, neither the friendliness, waiting time nor quality suffered. Still the best salmon for me :-) Therefore, I highly recommend it. It's better to reserve in advance on the weekend (as it's very popular) and I'm already looking forward to the next time. :-)

Die von uns ausgesuchten Gerichte ( Captains-Teller, Backkartoffel mit Hähnchenbrust ) waren guter Durchschnitt. Der Service, von der Reservierung über die Bedienung hat deutlich Luft nach oben. Am Nachbartisch warf die Bedienung beim Servieren ein 0,5l Bier um. Nicht ein Wort der Entschuldigung. Wir würden dieses Restaurant nicht empfehlen und werden auch nicht wiederkommen.

The food is very good, but what's not possible is that you have to sit next to a smoker with small children, so the smoke is so annoying while you're eating that you can't smell it anymore. Let alone that it is good for small children. Other guests also found it unbearable but there was no reaction from the staff despite complaints from several tables.

Quality for over 20 years, We were guests here as children and today, 20 years later, the same service staff is still on site. The composition of the dishes tastes wonderful and offers a good variety for different tastes. The dishes are prepared with attention to detail.

A great restaurant, with really delicious food and friendly staff. We have been there twice now and have also found the staff to be very child-friendly. I deducted one star for the ambience because, depending on where you sit, you can hardly ignore the conversations at the next table. But that is certainly due to the circumstances and is well compensated for by great food and friendly staff.

We ate here today when we came to the island hungry at lunchtime and needed something to get our teeth into quickly. 😉 All the restaurants in front of it were already very full. Hardly anything going on with the pirates. Unfortunately, that's usually not a good sign. The waitress didn't beam at us directly when we came in, but instead walked out with a tray without saying a word. We were afraid that it would be a failure. 🙈 But the food was really delicious. We had schnitzel Viennese style (+ it was very large; - there was no salad with it) with fries, a baked potato with herring and salad. That was really tasty! And for the kids 2* fish nuggets with fries, although there were only two medium-sized fish nuggets and a few fries - but with a small, delicious salad. And the children were full! In the end the waitress was really friendly and smiled and wished us a nice day. At first that was probably just the Frisian way. 😉

Our first restaurant visit here on the island. We ended up here by chance, but the food was really, really good. The service was a bit grumpy, but not unfriendly. Priced within the (island) range, large portions, gladly again. Addendum 2 years later: Service very friendly and attentive, food very good!

Delicious food and great service. We went out to eat as a family with 2 children (11 & 15) and everyone found something. The taste is great and the portions are rather large. Like all restaurants on Wangerooge, the price is a bit more expensive. But it was worth it. Service was on point and very attentive. Would love to come back.

Food was good, but service was poor. Customers are ignored and rudely approached, 1J expired pastries are served... The boss seems to make enough money 😅

Unfortunately, the food is decreasing every year. The prices are rising. E.g. The grill plate. The turkey is big, but cheap. The piece of beef and the piece of bill were less than 6 cm tall. The fries were too dark and the mushrooms were soggy. The whole thing for over 30 euros. The bacon on the plaice was completely burnt so that it was already bitter. The complaint was accepted, but unfortunately nothing was said about it. The pasta with shrimps at the Italian restaurant Am Brunnen is far better and also cheaper. Unfortunately it was the last time I was with the pirates. We wanted to give it another try after skipping Pirates last year. Unfortunately it wasn't good.

Impossible. Reserved for 6 people, initially greeted warmly with the words “and you are the table for 6” (which we of course said yes). After half an hour had passed without an order for food being taken. The waitress came to our table, upset and absolutely unfriendly, and asked what our name was. Accusing us, she then accused us of not having a reservation with our name on it. We would have made a mistake. Apparently there was a double booking and the employee was then angry with us. When we pointed out that the way we treated the guest really wasn't right, she just said that we might have been wrong. Paid for the drinks and left. Never again.

We always eat here during our Wangerooge vacation. Service is friendly (sometimes East Frisian musty-friendly, but I know that and don't take it lightly since I come from the area myself ;)) and the food has always been delicious. We used to often have plaice and fried potatoes, which we always enjoyed very much. This time there was loup de mer with buttered potatoes and baked vegetables. At first I thought, oh dear, when I saw it, but it tasted great! The children had great schnitzel and fries. Both schnitzels were crispy, the meat was very tender and the fries were good too. Unfortunately, mayo and ketchup (as is unfortunately often the case on the island) come in sachets. It's a shame that they don't invest in bowls... otherwise great! We registered a birthday when making the reservation and thought maybe a candle would be put there. But there were candles, streamers, colorful napkins and colorful balloons! Really, really great ❤️ Thank you again for taking this route! We'll definitely be back!

We visited the restaurant on the first day of our vacation. The food and service was mixed. Not bad, but not special either. I can't recommend it.

Today we sat down at a table in the winter garden. The meal was excellent. The portions were almost too big for us🙄 but delicious😋 The staff is very friendly and attentive. If we were on the island longer⛱️ we would go again.

We had the plaice fillet with potatoes and salad, the plaice fillet had a lot of breading and little fish and the fish was also seasoned with a Maggi herb mixture so that you couldn't taste the fish. We complained about the food but the staff didn't respond to it, So we had to pay the full price. There was no apology from the staff or a drink as an excuse. We've been coming to Wangerooge for years, but we'll never eat at Pirate's again

Sehr schönes Lokal mit gutem Essen. Die Gerichte (Fisch) waren gut zubereitet und sehr schmackhaft. Man kann sehr schön draussen sitzen , Veranda überdacht und windgeschützt.

We had an excellent Captainsplate, served with smoked salmon, northeast shrimps, fresh matjes with a fried egg and delicious bacon home fries. Sitting under the covered patio in the sun was a pleasure. Never felt so save when using the bathrooms as these are placed in the vault of a previous bank at this location

Very good food and very friendly service! We've eaten here twice so far and will definitely come back! We had the best Wiener Schnitzel so far and very good plaice here. The salad with sea bream is also highly recommended. Price/performance ratio is also right here, so go there!

We were very satisfied, everything tasted very good and we were more than full. Since I'm a good eater, that's saying something. The fish soup was already plentiful, followed by the fish plate with 3 delicious fish fillets... Finally I had to leave the very tasty fries behind because nothing else fit in them. A successful end to our Wangerooge vacation. We'd love to come back next time we're here.

Der Pirat, unserer Meinung nach in der Nebensaison des beste Restaurant, was man auf Wangerooge finden kann. Wichtig ist natürlich ja das Restaurant verfügt über eine offene Küche und folglich riecht man das auch in der Kleidung nach dem Besuch, was aber völlig normal ist und nicht einer schlechten Lüftung zuzusprechen ist. Während des Aufenthalts in Restaurant nimmt man keinerlei unangenehmen Essensgeruch wahr. Sowohl das Servicepersonal als auch das Küchenpersonal sind sehr aufmerksam. Es kann einem bei dem ein oder anderen der Mitarbeiter eine nordich, kühle Art begegnen, was aber definitiv von Unfreundlichkeit abzugrenzen ist. Auch Küchengespräche und Lautstärke sind völlig in Ordnung und wenn man Gespräche anderer Personen mitbekommt, dann wahrscheinlich nur weil nicht genügend eigener Gesprächsstoff vorhanden ist. Sowohl in 2023 als auch in 2024 mehrfach besucht und immer mehr als zu Frieden. Kulinarisch kann man sich auf sehr gute Qualität einstellen und braucht keine Sorge vor Fertigsoßen oder Aufgewärmtem haben. Folglich sind auch die etwas höheren Preise aus unserer Sicht in Ordnung.

Wir waren das erste Mal hier. Obwohl Februar und nicht viel los auf der Insel bekam man ohne Reservierung keinen Tisch. Am nächsten Tag durften wir dann kommen. Leider war der Empfang ziemlich unfreundlich. Das Essen sehr gut.

The food was super tasty. The service was a one-woman show. The waitress was our hero that evening. She was alone, but still quick, always friendly and asked if everything was okay. The food was super tasty, from carpaccio to steak to crispy schnitzel. I take my hat off to the overall performance; our expectations were more than exceeded.

Sehr gutes Essen, egal ob Fisch oder Fleisch, ordentliche Portionen. Preislich liegt der Pirat voll im Wangerooger Trend, so ziemlich alles ist leicht überteuert. Servicekräfte sind freundlich, wenn auch teilweise etwas unterkühlt. Die Musikberieselung war uns entschieden zu laut, und das ließ sich auch nicht ändern, dafür ein Punkt Abzug. Insgesamt aber durchaus ein empfehlenswertes Restaurant.

Sehr gutes und noch ein preislich recht erschwingliches Restaurant. Tolle Schnitzel in sehr guter Größe und wirklich lecker! Der Service dazu war auch klasse. Das Zigeunerschnitzel war klasse!

Preis-Leistungs- Sieger auf Wooge. Mehrere Restaurants getestet. Das ist Top Preis-Leistung Mit 2 Personen den ganzen Laden bedient wie die Bienen. Carolas Humor ist erst etwas Nordisch, aber dann sehr herzlich. Da darf auch Trinkgeld gegeben werden. 30 m vom Strand und absolut keine Touri- Falle. Von wegen teuerste Nordseeinsel. Preis Leistung besser als mancher Festlands- Nap wie z.B. Fisch Albrecht in Caro- Siel. Esst es einfach auf Wooge. Immer wieder gern ! Gruss Rudi

Wir waren dort an einem Wochentag mit unserem 2 jährigen Sohn essen. Dieser bekam direkt einen Kinderstuhl und ein kleines Wasserglas mit Strohhalm. Wir konnten ohne Reservierung auf der Terasse platz nehmen. Der Service war sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Das Essen (Scholle und ein Steakteller) war zwar etwas teurer, aber das Geld wirklich wert. Wir würden dort definitiv wieder hin gehen.

Wir hatten die Spaghetti Aglio Olio mit Nordseekrabben (große Portion) und den Captains Teller ( Matjes, Nordsee Krabben, Räucherlachs mit Spiegelei und Bratkartoffeln) und beides hat uns gut geschmeckt. Wir sind zum 2. Mal hier und werden auch wieder hier essen. Die Preise sind etwas höher, aber wir sind schließlich auf einer Insel und dafür völlig in Ordnung.

Seit vielen Jahren immer wieder hier gewesen... Leider so nach und nach nachgelassen... Die Menge sehr "überschaubar". Die Mitarbeiterin ist schon seit vielen Jahren hier immer reserviert professionell... Freundlichkeit ist erweiterungsfähig... Essen war in kurzer Zeit am Tisch, ca 15 Minuten. Fisch war lecker aber knapp bemessen... Diesmal war auch der Rucola leicht welk... Schade...

Zentral und gut gelegen. Einladende Terrasse, wind- und regengeschützt. Speiseauswahl bedient den üblichen, bodenständigen Geschmack. Wir haben Fisch und Fleisch gegessen und waren insgesamt zufrieden. Die Portionen sind großzügig bemessen. Auf Änderungswünsche ging man allerdings nicht ein. Für Vegetarier ein sehr kleines Angebot. Die Bedienung erfüllte unsere Wünsche in der Regel zeitnah, aber ohne Herzlichkeit. In einem Fall wurde unser Monitum bei einer Scholle nicht befriedigend aufgenommen. Die Bedienung zeigte wenig Einsicht und bot Nachbesserung an. Das haben wir abgelehnt. .

In der Pasta fehlten die Oliven. Zumindest konnten wir sie nicht finden. Der Zander war versalzen. Und die Bedienung war anfangs recht freundlich als das Lokal sich aber fühlte wurden wir 10 Minuten lang mit unseren Geschirr am Tisch sitzen gelassen obwohl die Kellnerin immer vorbei lief.

Freundlicher Service, Essen war gut und schmackhaft, Portionen üblich, d.h. nicht zu viel und nicht zu wenig. Das Ambiente ist mit Piratenfiguren in Lebensgröße gestaltet.

Wir waren mit 2 Erwachsenen und einem Kind (8 Jahre) in der Hauptsaison gegen 21 Uhr dort. Es war außer uns kaum ein Gast anwesend, was uns erst etwas misstrauisch machte. Dies stellte sich aber als unbegründet heraus. Das Essen war lecker und ansprechend angerichtet (1x Jägerschnitzel, 1x Ofenkartoffel mit Hähnchenbrustfilet und das Kindermenü Sparrow). Der Preis war angemessen.
