Der Ostfriese in Emden

We eat out often and a lot. But we've never experienced anything as amazing as this. The food, the staff, and the decor were all fantastic. Unfortunately, we live 200 km away. So we can only eat here every few months.

I went there for breakfast for the first time today. The atmosphere was lovely and cozy, the buffet had a great selection, everything tasted delicious, and the staff were very friendly despite the place being packed. All this at a really good price. I can recommend it.

Yesterday, four of us spontaneously decided to eat here. What can I say? We've rarely experienced such friendly and attentive service. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious 😋. We'll definitely be back!

The East Frisian restaurant is great, friendly staff, very clean, and the breakfast is excellent. Everyone should try the food for themselves; I usually go there for breakfast. The value for money is very good, there's a good selection, and you'll definitely leave full.

The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were generous! We were especially impressed by the wide variety of dishes and the beautiful presentation. The Ocean Bowl was one of the best bowls I've ever had, and thanks to the lunch special, it was only €11.90. You can sit outside in the sun, and the service is also excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant!

We ate there twice – once for dinner and again the following day for the breakfast buffet. The food selection was extensive, and our burgers were delicious. The cocktails were also excellent. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The breakfast buffet was a particularly pleasant surprise. We've rarely seen such a comprehensive buffet. And even though the place was packed, we couldn't get a table. Highly recommended, and thank you again for the delicious food and excellent service!

We'd also give the service 10 stars. Abi and Aileen were unbeatably friendly, authentic, and accommodating. You can immediately tell they love their job. If you're eating in Emden, then go to the Ostfriesen. A must.

Nice bar, the food looked good; I didn't eat there myself. I had a cocktail that I didn't really like, but the bar is cozy and the staff is friendly. The prices are normal, like in other bars.

Reservations only on weekends. The breakfast buffet is truly special.

A sensational brunch with everything your heart desires! So diverse and lovingly prepared, with all the usual staples, plus plenty of unusual and special treats. My absolute highlight was the unassuming-looking bread (aromatic, crispy, fluffy, and fresh), alongside the generously filled basket of rolls. Plus, super friendly staff and a wonderful ambiance. What more could you want? An absolute culinary highlight during our short break in the region.

Spontaneously stopped at the East Frisian restaurant: Delicious burger. A normal portion, but incredibly tasty. Homemade burger with fries.

A good review and nothing more, because unfortunately we didn't get very far. 😄 The place was very busy and there was no room left (better to make a reservation). But the young waitress very politely turned us away, apologized frequently, and recommended that we come back in about an hour. It wasn't his fault; we had gone there on a whim, so it was our own bad luck. 🤷🏼‍♂️😄 We didn't take the recommendation, as he also told us that it's always very busy on holidays. I think that speaks for the "Ostfriesen" as a popular restaurant. But we'll be back, this time with a reservation. 😉☝🏻👌🏻

Highly recommended. Without a reservation on a holiday, they tried to find a seat for everyone who came in. The service was faster than I've experienced in a restaurant in a long time, and as a bonus, every guest with a dog was offered water for their dog. The burgers we had were delicious, the fries were super crispy, and the aioli was just perfect. The dessert tasted as good as it looked.

Hey, so let's start from the beginning... The place is chic, sitting outside is fantastic in good weather... we were very happy with the service. Nice, friendly, always with a smile on their faces :) The starter was excellent, I had edamame... prepared very well with sea salt in a small bowl, with lemon, and the temperature was just right... Now for the main course: we reserved a table for 6 p.m., and the food was served about an hour later... to be fair, it was very busy. The fries or sweet potato fries were very well prepared. Nice and crispy, golden brown... the sauces were very tasty... the burgers were also very well presented and well prepared, although the meat was a bit weak in flavor and a bit cold... All in all, we were satisfied, just a little frustrating that we had to wait so long... the burgers would probably have been warmer then, and the meat would have been tastier.

Nice two Aperols in the evening sun. The burgers and currywurst looked good. We only had drinks.

Very nice and centrally located. The staff wasn't pushy, but a bit "heavy"... The menu offers a varied selection if you prefer "fast food." But there are also various options for vegetarians. We didn't eat there, but drank Pinot Gris and Erdinger Weizen beer...which was good value for money.

Super Brunch: Delicious and varied

Great experience. The lunch specials were very good. The Smashburger was amazing, and the portion was definitely generous. Friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere with music in the otherwise quiet pedestrian zone.

Although something went wrong with the order, it was professionally corrected. Everything was adjusted to our wishes and orders. Thank you very much, it was delicious.

It was our second time eating there. The first time was great, the second time, unfortunately, bad. Schnitzel from the deep fryer and sauce from a packet. The meat was tender, you don't really eat it, but the sauce from a packet was truly terrible. It's so easy to make a delicious sauce yourself. The service was good and they immediately offered me another dish. I declined because I was served. I didn't have to pay for the meal. I thought it was very good.

The location is great, right in the heart of Emden's old town. For me, the food was 5 stars – a delicious, spicy chili cheeseburger. Colleagues ate something else (I don't remember what) and had a stomach ache the next day – it could have been from too much beer.

It was a wonderfully pleasant atmosphere, with very friendly waiters and waitresses. The food was absolutely delicious, heartwarming, and truly delicious, with everything clean and beautifully prepared.

I had a pulled chicken burger with sweet potato fries and a large shandy (approx. €28.60). The burger was delicious, but the pulled chicken was a bit dry. Otherwise, everything was good.

The service is extremely poor. Orders are taken quickly, with no time for the customer, but everything moves in slow motion. I know it's the other way around; sometimes you have to wait an hour before someone comes to the table and takes your order. The food is still good, though. It's generally too loud, and they try to turn the music up even louder, making pleasant conversation impossible. Waiters don't come to the table of their own accord. The glasses we were given weren't even properly rinsed.

A great location with some unique dishes in downtown Emden. Delicious! No parking in front of the door, but easy to reach on foot. Also wheelchair accessible. Suitable for young and old alike. Service is fast and attentive. Sit outside. Relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended!

A class above all other burger joints. Fresh, fresh, fresh, homemade sauces...even Dijon cress is good enough...the falafel tastes authentic...is that how you spell it? The place is packed, everyone is eating with relish; where else do you see so much joy in simple food? Here, they do things right in the restaurant industry...and everything is affordable. On our trip through Friesland, we arrived rather late with a group of eight! But the staff coordinated with us immediately, provided excellent service, repeatedly asked if everything was okay, and even arranged for table lighting outside (we wanted ambiance, and that's what we got!). The food was fantastic! Good drinks!! A very nice employee settled the bill at the end and was a super nice and positive person! You need people like that as a boss, and they're becoming increasingly rare! We'd love to come back!

Ideal for a vacation, ideal for a good meal. From burgers to pasta to desserts, everything is beautifully presented and tastes great. We sat outside, a bit away from the main area but still close to the action. There was a wait, but it was completely understandable, as there were problems with the kitchen (which were handled very competently) and there were a lot of people there. The cocktails are lovely, very lovely. They tasted good, although the Moscow Mule was very bitter and the Wildberry Lillet was very strong. While waiting, you could relax on the comfortable chairs and admire the very lovingly designed menu. Unfortunately, I found the restroom almost a bit creepy; the lights were off, it was dark, and felt a bit unwelcoming. Nevertheless, overall, a perfect vacation.

Service a full 10 points. She'd already eaten everything herself and explained it perfectly. The tapas were a dream, the aioli was a poem, I would have also had Bolognese (with carrots and celery!!!). Next time

Very nice here. However, the staff could be a bit more attentive. The food selection could be larger.

If you go to the same restaurant two nights in a row, the entire team there has done everything right. Very satisfied with the service. The food was consistently delicious and prepared with passion. My only comment: The menus are dirty and should be updated. This is very off-putting at first.

I was always satisfied, but now, for the third time in a row, around 10:15 a.m., there were only regular rolls and empty plates as far as the eye could see. Even €14 is actually too expensive when all that ends up being a few peppers, a spoonful of scrambled eggs, and two falafel, because there simply wasn't much more. Service used to be much, much friendlier. The restrooms are absolutely not great. Of course, it's primarily the guests' fault, who think they have to behave like they're not wearing their pants outside of their own four walls. But then, unfortunately, you have to clean every now and then, even if it's really not cool.

Unfortunately, we waited a very long time for our food, which was quite greasy. I wouldn't recommend it. The waiters were uncoordinated.

Unfortunately, the waiters weren't coordinated; we had to wait 1.5 hours for the food and 30 minutes for the bill. The food was bad and expensive for what it was. The main waiter was just unpleasant and over the top.
