Der Ostfriese in Emden

The location is great, right in the heart of Emden's old town. For me, the food was 5 stars – a delicious, spicy chili cheeseburger. Colleagues ate something else (I don't remember what) and had a stomach ache the next day – it could have been from too much beer.

It was a wonderfully pleasant atmosphere, with very friendly waiters and waitresses. The food was absolutely delicious, heartwarming, and truly delicious, with everything clean and beautifully prepared.

The service is extremely poor. Orders are taken quickly, with no time for the customer, but everything moves in slow motion. I know it's the other way around; sometimes you have to wait an hour before someone comes to the table and takes your order. The food is still good, though. It's generally too loud, and they try to turn the music up even louder, making pleasant conversation impossible. Waiters don't come to the table of their own accord. The glasses we were given weren't even properly rinsed.

I had a pulled chicken burger with sweet potato fries and a large shandy (approx. €28.60). The burger was delicious, but the pulled chicken was a bit dry. Otherwise, everything was good.

A successful afternoon, friendly staff, good food, beautiful location.

A great location with some unique dishes in downtown Emden. Delicious! No parking in front of the door, but easy to reach on foot. Also wheelchair accessible. Suitable for young and old alike. Service is fast and attentive. Sit outside. Relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended!

However, if you value the quality of the food, you'll have to spend a few euros more elsewhere. Overall, though, it's quite good. Visit was on August 5, 2024.

A class above all other burger joints. Fresh, fresh, fresh, homemade sauces...even Dijon cress is good enough...the falafel tastes authentic...is that how you spell it? The place is packed, everyone is eating with relish; where else do you see so much joy in simple food? Here, they do things right in the restaurant industry...and everything is affordable. Congratulations.

On our trip through Friesland, we arrived rather late with a group of eight! But the staff coordinated with us immediately, provided excellent service, repeatedly asked if everything was okay, and even arranged for table lighting outside (we wanted ambiance, and that's what we got!). The food was fantastic! Good drinks!! A very nice employee settled the bill at the end and was a super nice and positive person! You need people like that as a boss, and they're becoming increasingly rare! We'd love to come back!

Very good food, highly recommended

Ideal for a vacation, ideal for a good meal. From burgers to pasta to desserts, everything is beautifully presented and tastes great. We sat outside, a bit away from the main area but still close to the action. There was a wait, but it was completely understandable, as there were problems with the kitchen (which were handled very competently) and there were a lot of people there. The cocktails are lovely, very lovely. They tasted good, although the Moscow Mule was very bitter and the Wildberry Lillet was very strong. While waiting, you could relax on the comfortable chairs and admire the very lovingly designed menu. Unfortunately, I found the restroom almost a bit creepy; the lights were off, it was dark, and felt a bit unwelcoming. Nevertheless, overall, a perfect vacation.

I ordered two different breakfast boxes for four people. There were six of us, though. It was very filling, with a large selection, and arrived on time. I highly recommend it!

Very nice here. However, the staff could be a bit more attentive. The food selection could be larger.

I was always satisfied, but now, for the third time in a row, around 10:15 a.m., there were only regular rolls and empty plates as far as the eye could see. Even €14 is actually too expensive when all that ends up being a few peppers, a spoonful of scrambled eggs, and two falafel, because there simply wasn't much more. Service used to be much, much friendlier. The restrooms are absolutely not great. Of course, it's primarily the guests' fault, who think they have to behave like they're not wearing their pants outside of their own four walls. But then, unfortunately, you have to clean every now and then, even if it's really not cool.

If you go to the same restaurant two nights in a row, the entire team there has done everything right. Very satisfied with the service. The food was consistently delicious and prepared with passion. My only comment: The menus are dirty and should be updated. This is very off-putting at first.

Absolutely disappointed with the breakfast buffet. The selection itself would have been large, but unfortunately, 90% of the plates and bowls were empty. Sure, it's always busy, but in the past, and even around Christmas time, it hasn't been this busy. But recently, I've experienced it repeatedly.

If you're looking for a great way to end the day, this is the place to be. The food is fantastic, and despite the restaurant being overcrowded, the service was excellent. Even if you had to wait 30 minutes for your drink, the food made up for it.

The restaurant is good, the food is delicious, and the staff is friendly. It's a bit pricey, but still okay. We were allowed to bring our dog. However, the Coke and Fanta were watered down. Hence only 4 stars. But all in all, highly recommended.

A very pleasant restaurant, where the service is particularly friendly. Admittedly, I was there at a time when it was relatively empty, but the service was always prompt, friendly, and unobtrusive. Super delicious food, from salads and bowls to classics like schnitzel and pasta to unique burgers. The service is super friendly, but sometimes takes a few minutes longer. While the food is cleared and delivered quickly, not every employee takes orders and payments, so it can take a few minutes during peak times. The ambiance is great both inside and out, and the staff are extremely friendly.

Yes, absolutely recommended. Four of us went there for lunch. Great lunch special with a drink, at a very fair price. You could order a salad, which was very well prepared. Service was very prompt, friendly, and pleasant. Very reasonable value for money. We'd be happy to come back!

Yes, we highly recommend this restaurant. While on vacation in Emden, we were looking for a place to have dinner. We stumbled upon the Ostfriesen by chance and were definitely not disappointed. The taste, quality, and price are all very good.

We had chosen this restaurant in advance for our one-day visit to Emden because of its excellent reviews. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed as soon as we entered, as the place didn't give us the cleanest impression. The menu was quite dirty, and the table was still sticky even after washing, so we decided not to eat. Too bad...

We love coming to the Ostfriesen, especially for the dessert platter and the frozen margarita. The restrooms are in need of some renovation, especially the men's. Both urinals weren't draining and were filled with urine.

The flexibility leaves much to be desired. Between 12:00 and 12:30, food orders cannot be taken because the cash register doesn't allow it...

Terrible food, fantastic service. Food was fast, the staff were great. The food, on the other hand, besides looking good was not great. All deep fried, not so great quality. The burger was too thick and overloaded, and the Schnitzel was pressed meat, like a nugget, not from proper meat. Overall not a good quality-price ratio..

Unfortunately, the restaurant was understaffed. We were informed that only drinks could be served for the time being, as the kitchen is currently unable to take orders. This is truly disappointing for a restaurant of this standard.

Everything was fine, but the noise level was so high that it was almost impossible to have a conversation, so it lost one star.

Flammkuchen with sour cream, tuna, and onions – the best tarte flambée in the region, I swear! It's still not enough for five days: Waiting 16 minutes for a beer at 27 degrees Celsius in the shade and with a moderately busy restaurant is too long. And next time, I expect I won't have to tear the wonderfully thin base of the tarte flambée. Cutting it was impossible; the knife no longer had any teeth.
