The restaurant boasts an appealing ambiance that is inviting and encourages guests to linger. Unfortunately, the service didn't live up to the same standard. The staff was attentive at the beginning, but their attentiveness waned as the evening progressed, which marred the overall impression. The food was acceptable and arrived relatively quickly, however, the meat wasn't cooked to our liking. Dessert was also disappointing: the "Earth Dam" dessert wasn't as described on the menu, as none of ours had a molten center. When we inquired about this, we were told that it was "always like that," which seemed rather unfriendly. Overall, we unfortunately have to say that due to the numerous discrepancies and the lack of customer focus, we cannot return.

I just enjoyed a lovely meal at the restaurant with my family. Great atmosphere, attentive staff, and delicious food and cocktails. Highly recommended!

Great location right next to the swing bridge. Large terrace by the water. Good food, generous breakfast. Clean rooms, en-suite bathroom. Wi-Fi and TV overloaded in the evening.

A large serving of mussels in white wine was offered. Unfortunately, when we ordered, the dish was sold out. Okay, that can happen. The fact that the soup we ordered, Slojanka, was completely sour, was a disgrace. The lady who served us was completely overwhelmed. When I asked them to remove the sign with the mussel offer, she just smiled.

The food was a complete failure. The menu lists diced tomatoes and cucumbers with bread. Well, the bread slice was different. Stuck at the bakery, and the price-performance ratio was ???????? Simply a joke. No salt. My daughter's pasta with the diluted tomato soup wasn't even average cafeteria quality. The pike-perch was dry and fried to death. All the side bones were still there. All in all, not recommended.

Actually, I'd give it a 4.5 – because of course not everything is perfect – but I absolutely cannot understand some of the extremely negative reviews about the Insulaner in Malchow. Some of it almost seems as if someone is deliberately trying to do harm. The fact is: The menu is skillfully extensive without seeming arbitrary. The food is very tasty – the vegetarian dishes in particular stand out. But the meat and fish are also perfectly fine, although we used a bit less seasoning. The portions are generous, and the staff are always friendly and attentive. We've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. For me, it's a definite recommendation in Malchow – and proof that you shouldn't let a few unfounded negative reviews sway you. I can't rate the hotel itself, as we've never stayed there... But of course, the cobblestones are noisy – but that's also the case in other hotels and vacation apartments. Keep your eyes peeled when choosing a location; the hotel can't help it.

Lunch 12.08.2025 6 people (grandparents, parents, 2 children: ages 4 and 7) on the terrace. Of the 5 meals ordered (one robber's plate), 4 were poor in quality, preparation, and quantity. Even the senior citizen wasn't satisfied (he didn't order a senior citizen's plate!). The egg was too salty, the children's schnitzel was tough, the sauce was forgotten, a laughable portion for a pure mushroom dish but a hefty price (€23.50), the chicken meat portion was very small even for the lady, the schnitzel looked large but was extremely flattened, the vegetable skewers were very watery and bland (as if just thawed) and definitely not fresh. The very lavish prices (the place is a tourist magnet) for the quantity and quality served seem to be geared towards passing tourists or day tourists who probably won't return a second time. Additionally, the outdoor area/terrace, while very central and directly adjacent to the connecting bridge, which opens hourly, is located on the main thoroughfare, so the exhaust fumes and traffic noise are clearly noticeable outside. The service was okay, but the waitress apologized but clearly had no interest in passing on our criticism to the kitchen. The four of us adults unanimously agree: not recommended.

The restaurant impresses with its fantastic location right on the water. The service was quick and courteous, and the food selection is excellent. While it's rather expensive, the quality and taste are absolutely worth it – simply delicious. A particularly nice touch: the nearby swing bridge and the many passing boats create a special atmosphere. We only ate outside, so we can't comment on the interior or the hotel.

The hotel's location is so beautiful, and the daily breakfast is a great way to start every day! But the rooms are showing their age.

The chocolate with a shot was great, but the cake was absolutely terrible, and any slight criticism of it is met with a shrug 🤷‍♂️ The atmosphere is really nice, though 👍

Restaurant very good, rooms dated

As has been reviewed several times, the staff at the restaurant is a disgrace. We wanted to take a look at the menu before sitting down. It was lying on the side table in front of the waiter. We were denied this in a manner I've never experienced in a restaurant that was so unfriendly. I wouldn't recommend it.

Perfectly fine for one night, albeit very noisy. The bathroom was very small, and you have to "park" between the sink and the shower to close the door and then reach the toilet... The restaurant and the hotel in general are very dark. The food was absolutely delicious; it was "chanterelle" season, and I had a steak with it that was perfectly cooked. The terrace with a view of the lake and the swing bridge is highly recommended!

I haven't had such a bad meal in a long time, and for €133. But first things first. When we (father, mother, niece, and I) entered the restaurant, we weren't greeted. We chose a table ourselves and asked if we could sit there. (In a good restaurant, you'll be greeted warmly and then shown to a table by the server.) When we were seated, it took over 10 minutes for a server to come to us with our menus. That's not a problem in a full house, but here there were only 5 occupied tables and 3 servers. Instead of serving us first, as is appropriate in a good restaurant, the servers moved the tables around in groups of three and cleared away the table decorations left by the other guests. That's when I realized this wasn't going to be a good experience. In a good restaurant with professional staff, the servers divide their tables into territories. This was not the case here. Our table was also dirty, and there was old candle wax stuck to it, which is a no-go for me. The food was prepared fairly quickly, so there's nothing to complain about. My meal itself was a complete disaster. I had a burnt zander fillet with fried chanterelles and fried potatoes. I'm in the land of fish here, and I got a piece of industrially frozen zander that was cooked. The fish was completely overcooked and dry, with some charred spots. The chanterelles were simply fried in oil and not seasoned, which shows me that the chef is incompetent. (Good chanterelles require bacon, onion, salt, pepper, and parsley, all sautéed in butter, for example.) But there are other ways of preparing them, too. The fried potatoes were simply cut into large squares and fried. Nothing more. And making fried potatoes is really not difficult. My mother had other side dishes on the menu that hadn't been discussed. She had a Duroc pork chop that was bone dry (the chef didn't fry the chop in a hot pan, but put it in cold and then heated the pan, otherwise the chop would have been juicy). Instead of mashed potatoes, fried potatoes were served. The portions were also too small for €24.95 each. The pictures I'm attaching here are to show you how poorly cooked the pike-perch was. I'm so disappointed, as I'm a trained chef myself. It's a shame the waitress served us such a meal. We paid after the meal (didn't tip) and left in a hurry. Conclusion: Avoid this restaurant, as there are better restaurants in the area with 4.5 to 5-star ratings. You don't get value for your money here. The only highlight of the restaurant was the pretty waitress.

The staff didn't want to communicate in English and the waiter was distant. When I saw him washing the glasses, I was glad I didn't drink from them, but I don't think anything will change. There will always be people who will pay for that crap. I went to the hotel opposite and everything was great.

We were there in July. The hotel is located on an island, and our room had a wonderful view of the water and the swing bridge. The service was very attentive. The value for money was very good. Parking is available in the courtyard. The food at breakfast and in the restaurant was also very good. Many thanks to the entire hotel team.

I don't even know where to begin. We've been there several times now, and the quality of the food is mediocre at best and completely out of proportion to the very high prices. The prices for drinks are also very high, especially if you get a Rostock Pilsner with a completely lack of carbonation. But this place really took off today, on Volksfest Friday. Just imagine. The town is full of visitors, and in the area around the swing bridge there are around 2,000 people waiting for the fireworks and watching the marching bands, as well as the boat parade. The Insulaner closes at 9 p.m., and from 8 p.m. onwards, you get the announcement that you can't order anything else to eat and you'll only get one round of drinks. The waiters rudely wrap up the whole thing with "we have a private life too." And then in the off-season, the whining starts again. Simply not recommended.

Not worth €1... Absolutely terrible food for the money

The location was great. At the beginning of our visit, we were told we would have to wait longer for our food, which wasn't a problem for us. The dishes arrived after an hour. The portions were small for the price, two of the nine dishes were incorrect, and one was missing a side dish. When asked, the incomplete dish was justified by the current workload in the kitchen. The missing side dish was not served because it would have been inconvenient. The salad that accompanied the dishes (according to the menu) was not served either. The bottle of water was already opened. Our criticism was ignored.

I stayed overnight at the Hotel "Der Insulaner." The Viennese veal schnitzel with fries and green beans for €24.90 was perfectly fine. A side salad would have been nice. It wasn't a huge portion, but it was fine for a normal appetite. Breakfast the next morning was also perfectly fine. There's no buffet, but a tiered stand with sausage, cheese, ham, etc. Eggs, other coffee specialties, tea, yogurt, and cornflakes are also available upon request. They probably offer more than just the two rolls. The staff is friendly and personable, and the waitresses always have a smile on their faces. The biggest drawback, unfortunately, is the noise pollution from the through traffic on the cobblestones. By just before 6 a.m., I was practically standing upright in bed. When I booked, I had no idea how busy the local road in front of the hotel was. Add to that the delivery traffic, tractors, and—especially loud on the cobblestones—trucks with trailers. I had room 8 on the first floor, and the noise was so loud it felt like the room had no windows at all. The owner really needs to invest in soundproof windows. This obviously worked in the restaurant, because you can't hear nearly as much street noise there. Unfortunately, the noise and the resulting lack of sleep significantly detract from what I consider to be an otherwise good price-performance ratio. The noise is why I'm only giving the room one star. I wouldn't book there again at the moment; it's simply a no-go if you're looking for a relaxing break. If they ever get decent, soundproof windows there, I would definitely come back.

Very beautifully located hotel. A bit dated. The parking lot is very small with a narrow passage, but it's free. The rooms vary greatly. Ours (Room 2) was very spacious and offered a lovely view of the lake. During limited hours, you can hear the noise from the bar next door. Rooms facing the street are generally very noisy. We were always served very friendly and approachable during our stay. We found the opening hours too short, but we loved being able to sit on the terrace in the evenings. Bicycle parking is outside and is inadequate and unsafe. A bike shed would definitely be worthwhile. Dinner was good but expensive. Breakfast was very good. It was unusual that everything was allocated to us, but we always got everything.

The value for money isn't right here at all. The Wi-Fi didn't work, the stairwell smelled really bad, the bikes were covered but freely accessible, the cobblestones made the room very noisy, and the breakfast consisted of stale rolls and plastic-wrapped spreads. The location is very good, though, as is the dessert in the restaurant.

This was our second time in this fine little cozy hotel and we had a really good time. We were able to check in 1/2 hour in advance without any problems. The table for dinner was already reserved. The rooms are large, tidy and very clean. The dinner was very tasty and the service was super friendly. The menu is very varied. The next morning the breakfast table was set for us. Nothing was left to be desired. Upon request we also received fresh scrambled eggs. Overall, you have to say that the price-performance ratio in this hotel is very good. Keep it up.

If you want to get full, you should go to another restaurant. It was tasty. However, our expectations were different at this price.

We entered a restaurant still festively and comfortably decorated, whose ambiance was reminiscent of a traditional Berlin corner pub. This is hardly surprising, as the proprietor is – as you might guess – a true Berliner. With a loose tongue and typical Berlin sayings, we were shown to our seats in a friendly and humorous manner. This casual, warm atmosphere continued throughout the entire evening – especially when the food was served with great charm and wit. Culinary Delights We enjoyed the following delicacies: 1. Bread with homemade goose fat – a rustic and flavorful starter. 2. Solyanka – wonderfully spicy and just the right appetizer for a cozy evening. 3. Veal schnitzel from Hamburg with fried potatoes, fried egg, and cucumber salad – we've rarely enjoyed such a perfectly prepared and, above all, hot veal schnitzel. A true delight! 4. Erddamm (walnut parfait) with warm chocolate tart – a fabulous dessert that perfectly rounded off our evening. Our conclusion: An all-around successful evening in a restaurant that delights with warmth, humor, and excellent cuisine. "Der Insulaner" combines Berlin charm with down-to-earth, high-quality cuisine and a touch of nostalgia. If you're in Malchow, you shouldn't miss this experience! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Definitely a recommendation!

The manager served us, extremely reserved and listless; there were no other staff present (except those in the kitchen). Christmas decorations, even though it was Valentine's Day. Drink orders took too long for him; after about three seconds, he disappeared without taking anything. Everything went well on the second attempt. Less than 15 minutes later, the food arrived, but the drinks were missing...he'd still work on that. The food was...well...hm...let's just say a chip shop would put more effort into it. In summary...never again

The restaurant has a very good location. We were here for lunch. Neither the servings nor the cutlery were refilled. What was still in the containers on the table was dirty. The food was ok. All in all, no reason to come back.

Restaurant rating: Very interesting menu, but in our opinion much too big. Soljanka and spiced meat as a starter were good, as was the flank steak. Unfortunately, the aioli lacked garlic and only tasted like mayo. The open wine was only listed on the menu according to grape variety, no country of origin, no winemaker, no vintage. Unfortunately, we didn't get a sample and we didn't like the wine.

Made a reservation for 12 people at 6:00 PM, we were very welcome at 7:30 PM, the owner said. We arrived right on time. Then an hour later we were able to place our first order. Then waited half an hour for the drinks while they were being served on the bar. After politely asking for the drink to be served, the owner asked if we wanted to complain. We then asked again to serve the drink, after which the owner asked: Or do you want to go? After which we left unanimously with 12 people. We were then warmly welcomed at Jessqs Pizza Haus! Had a delicious meal here!

It was ok to stay there for a few days, it was clean... but it really needed to be renovated urgently, everything was "outdated"! Of course a bit noisy due to the cobblestone street, but it didn't bother us too much. But on the other side is the beautiful lake. There are a few parking spaces behind the house. Breakfast: everything was there, but scrambled eggs from a tetra pack don't work at all, rolls are also better! Waitresses should think about their own hygiene measures and not necessarily sneeze into the orange juice carafe!

I'm happy to pay the excellent price for such superbly prepared dishes. My partner had Viennese veal schnitzel with beans and fries. He also raved about this excellent cuisine. Nun zum Personal: es müßte eine Minus 5 geben, in einem derart hochpreisigen Restaurant einfach nicht zu fassen, ich wollte Bratkartoffeln statt Pommes, es war eine Odyssee, um ein Essen zu stornieren hätte der Chef anwesnd sein müssen, war er aber nicht; die zwei mitgebrachten Hunde wurden keines Blickes gewürdigt, geschweige ihnen Wasser angeboten. Das Haus ist auf keinen Fall empfehlenswert!

An ice cream sundae as dessert for €10 with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, cream and supposedly hot cherries left a lot to be desired. It's a shame but unfortunately true.

If you're not willing to cook fresh and from scratch, I don't think you should own a restaurant! It's really a shame because the location is really great! But we won't come back & won't recommend it to others.

We were here for dinner in the afternoon, so we had free choice of seating and were very happy with it. I had flank steak with fried potatoes and beans. Rooms are good. However, it is very loud at the front. On the one hand due to the cobbled street and on the other hand due to the beer garden in front of the window. Breakfast is OK, but costs extra.

How can I serve asparagus with veal schnitzel after 5 minutes? There was no green asparagus from the menu on the second attempt either. The service wasn't exactly friendly. Seating with cushions was reserved for regular guests who weren't there, and we saw by chance that there were chair cushions. Price-performance is not right.

Good service, but unfortunately the food wasn't fresh, even if it was sold that way. The fish was older and the asparagus had a second skin. The falafel, however, was delicious. The only drawback was that the salad wasn't washed.

We ate at the Insulaner in May 2024 and had large and generous portions. Price was a little higher, but food was delicious and location was very nice. Service was also very friendly.

We booked 7 nights including breakfast. We still have one night! Young, dynamic, nice staff!!! From the girls in the morning shift to the employees in the late shift/evening shift. Price-performance ratio TOTALLY OK!! If I book well and cheaply, I can't ask for a luxury hotel!! Anyone who complains and demands luxury must book luxury and pay for it (-; However, there is NO better hotel location in Malchow for the price! ///Don't want to know what it looks like at home with the "mockers" (-: /// (Always remember - it is not advertised as a wellness hotel) Sure...The owner could fix/have fixed many small things on his own. Ok Hotel, lite daterat, men det uppvägs av ett väldigt bra läge ”mitt i smeten” precis över den svängbara bron. Mycket trevlig personal och frukosten var riktigt bra.

We were here for the second time and I have to say it was very nice again. The food is fresh and tasty, the staff is very friendly, what more could you want. Keep it up!
