Das neue Waldheim in Bad Kreuznach

We were there on Sunday at lunchtime and were satisfied. The service was friendly, and in the summer there's a large beer garden. The vegan food was particularly excellent and served quickly. The seitan goulash was really great, and the turkey schnitzel was okay. Unfortunately, we didn't like the wine spritzer. The portions were generous – overall, we would definitely recommend this restaurant.

A bit dated, but otherwise everything is fine.

What a shame – my once beloved Waldheim is going downhill. For almost two decades, I was a regular here and happily spent several thousand euros over that time, but now going there is just a last resort. Restaurant prices have risen dramatically everywhere, which is understandable. What I find incomprehensible, however, is when the quality, portion sizes, and service simultaneously deteriorate so drastically, as I've observed at the Waldheim. My last three visits were simply infuriating. Situation 1: The Handkäse (a type of German cheese), formerly always delicious, was practically inedible. It tasted like it had been accidentally pickled in vinegar essence instead of vinegar. My friendly comment was dismissed with a shrug and a "I'll pass it on." Situation 2: The advertised chicken with gravy arrived without any gravy. When I asked about it, I was told, "We're out of gravy." I asked if I could have Burgundy sauce instead. This was charged extra for €2 without explanation and tasted so astonishingly disgusting (compared to the Burgundy sauce I'm used to from there) that I ended up eating the chicken "dry" and throwing the sauce away. Situation 3: We asked for two mulled wines and a children's punch. "We don't have children's punch." Okay, three mulled wines then. What arrived tasted like bad children's punch. Or completely overcooked mulled wine. Fine for teetotalers, but not really mulled wine. As other reviewers have already mentioned, the portions have shrunk considerably, and the food seems to be mostly canned. That it can be done differently is demonstrated by a new establishment nearby. It would be nice if the competition would boost business for both. I would also like to look forward to spending pleasant hours at the Waldheim again, instead of going straight "next door" (especially since "next door" is only open on Sundays). Years ago, the Waldheim was the well-deserved winner in a test of restaurants near Bad Kreuznach. It would be fantastic if it could achieve that again. Challenge accepted? 😉

Honestly the best pork escalope I had in a while.

Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. We reserved a table for a 6 p.m. birthday dinner with 10 people. The service was OK, but nothing more. The food was quick, but a bit too quick. From 8 p.m. onwards, we were practically treated as a nuisance. At 8:05 p.m. we ordered a final round. At 8:10 p.m. we were asked if we wanted to pay. Opening hours until 10 p.m. were completely unacceptable. Food was OK, but nothing more. Okay for a mid-afternoon stop But unfortunately, not if you don't need it. We won't be making reservations again.

A nice, home-style restaurant surrounded by nature. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available.

We ordered a walking stick, no idea what it was, it was more like a walking stick. A thin little bratwurst—I'd put two on top before I put something like that on my plate. What a shame!!

A nice forest restaurant that's very popular with large groups. The food is good, and the selection is good. As with most day-trip restaurants, it's self-service. The serving staff were very friendly.

A truly beautiful place that could be made so much more. Everything just needs a bit more attention. The food was very good, and it was a Saturday, and spit roast day. Very friendly and quick service at the window, as unfortunately, it's only self-service. This was our second time there; we'll gladly go there whenever we're in the area.

After a long wait, we finally gave it a try again and went to eat at the Waldheim. Today was definitely the last time! The spaetzle with wild mushroom cream sauce was abysmally bad. It was just pre-made spaetzle, canned mushrooms (mostly button mushrooms), and tasteless pre-made dressing. The same goes for the salad dressing!

Went there for a coffee 👍🏼sat outside with self-service. There are nicer outdoor areas.

I can definitely recommend this place. We were passing through in our motorhome and stopped there... fittingly for the chicken special! Half a chicken... fries and salad: less than €17. Super delicious. My husband had the "2" schnitzels... well... not much for one man... They were two very small schnitzels. Also super delicious with the mushroom sauce... but the portions were quite small. We had great... extremely friendly young service. Great! Keep it up! Located in the middle of the forest! We'd gladly go again!

It's beautifully situated in the middle of the forest, and it's also a great place to hike. I think the food is really good value for money. The people there are really nice, and you can sit in the sun or shade. The only annoying thing is the incredibly loud announcement over the loudspeaker when you can pick up your food. Is that really necessary, because it's already too loud when all the seats are taken? We had no problem finding a parking space this time, but we've also experienced it being quite crowded. The wait for food naturally depends on how busy it is. In my opinion, every dish is freshly prepared. The noise level naturally also depends on how busy it is. We really like it there!

A simple self-service restaurant in the forest. You order at the window, get your drinks there, and are called quite loudly to pick them up after the food is prepared. The quality of the food (I had schnitzel with fries) was average. However, the "size" of the portion was unacceptable: The regular portion could only be considered a meager child's portion. There were two very small schnitzels (or portions?) and a few fries on the plate. After complaining, I was given another portion of fries for free. Therefore, the price-performance ratio of the food doesn't quite match. While some adjustments were made free of charge, you don't want to complain about the portion size every time you want to be halfway full.

We were there for a large party with 30 people. The food was good, but the service was poor. They didn't even ask if we wanted anything else to drink or if we could have another dessert. They have no idea how to handle children. When a child at a registered family party can't even get an ice cream at the table, it's very sad. Personally, I was only there as a guest and didn't feel well looked after. How must the hosts have felt when their relatives and friends were so poorly looked after? A real shame!

We've been here many times over the years. Unfortunately, the ownership has changed, and it shows. The salad has brown spots, the schnitzel is overseasoned, and the plates are unfortunately poorly presented. The chicken on the salad plate was pre-cooked from the packaging. Clearing the plates yourself is also very tiresome. You have to scrape the plates yourself. The cutlery of at least 50 people is lying there in a solution. Unappealing. We won't be coming back for a while. For a family with two children, it's easily €65. Too expensive for what's on offer.

It's actually quite a nice forest restaurant, located in the middle of the forest. However, the service is getting a bit lackluster from time to time. It's a shame.

After a 32.80 rump steak I have to go back to KFC because the steak was so small.

The hunter's schnitzel was excellent value for money. Four schnitzels for the price of the guy who was eating next to us with his mini rum steak. The atmosphere was very nice and pleasant, and the food was also very tasty overall.

A restaurant in the heart of the forest, ideal for hikers or easily accessible by car. It's self-service, with table numbers assigned and called out. It's always nice to linger there, especially in the heat.

I can definitely recommend it. I ate there with my mother. We particularly enjoyed it because the staff and the manager were extremely friendly and especially accommodating, ensuring accessibility for my mother. The food was delicious and served quickly. As already mentioned, the staff is absolutely top-notch. We look forward to our next visit!

They served cheap, frozen schnitzel. The fries were too light and only lukewarm. Once, never again.

I haven't been to Waldheim in a while. It was also the last time. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken breast. What ended up on the plate disappointed me. Instead of grilled chicken breast, there were a few strips of chicken breast. You can also see those at discount stores. So, it was a ready-made product. There were large lettuce leaves in the plate, which made it look large. The carrot salad was fresh. A few slices of cucumber and four tomato wedges. That was it. The shopping list was maybe €2. I paid €15.95. I complained. She wanted to pass it on to the kitchen.

Good food with good price/performance ratio.

Great atmosphere, excellent service, and phenomenal cuisine. The salads are not only delicious, but an experience. You've definitely gained new regular customers.

I've been there twice in a short space of time. Both times, there were problems in the kitchen – once a complete order freeze, once a long wait due to internal difficulties. Self-service is standard there, but this is clearly communicated. Nevertheless, the prices are relatively high. The food is okay, nothing special, but decent. The outdoor furniture is clearly showing its age and could use some updating. Despite the criticism: a nice day-trip restaurant with a good location and a relaxed atmosphere. If everything is running smoothly, it's a great place to take a break – but currently with restrictions.

Leider ist die Gaststätte nicht mehr zu empfehlen. Früher war’s eine gute Adresse, wir waren seit langem mal wieder dort zum essen. Wie schon immer Selbstbedienung, aber die Preise wie in einem Restaurant zur Bedienung, Oberste Grenze. Schnitzel mit Pommes, bei dem kaum auf dem Teller zu finden war. Die Panade dicker als das Fleisch, das Fleisch tot in der Fritteuse gebraten. Ich frage mich, was sich der Koch bei dieser Qualität erwartet. Wir gehen auf jeden Fall nicht mehr hin und wenn dann nur etwas zu trinken nach einem Spaziergang.

The Waldheim is highly recommended; it's beautifully situated in the heart of nature. Pure leisure and relaxation, with drinks and food available at the pickup counter. Food is available both outside and inside the inn.

A lovely self-service beer garden nestled in the middle of the forest. Unfortunately, the food hasn't been as good lately. Huge lettuce leaves with too little dressing, the baked potatoes were lukewarm, and there was a lack of seasoning everywhere, especially salt.

If you like nature and feel at home in the middle of the forest, this is the right place for you.

Ich bewerte mal das vegane Essen.Die Grundlage für schmackhaftes Essen bilden pflanzliche Produkte wie Gemüse, Tofu usw. Hier wird verkochter Beutelreis in Tomatensoße aus der Dose ertränkt und zwei bis drei winzige ungewürzte Stücke Seitan lieblos hineingeworfen. Alles in allem eine Enttäuschung. Es hat auch keinen interessiert, warum ich das Essen zurückgeschickt habe, die Küche scheint ihre Fritteuse mehr zu lieben als frische Zutaten.

Absolutely delicious Schnitzel and Kirner is one of my favorite breweries. The location is gorgeous and there is a great playground area for kids right at the restaurant. You have to order from the counter at the kitchen and they bring your food and drinks to you.

We come here relatively often, we mostly use the beer garden, eat and drink, and have never been disappointed. I only got a warm, not hot cappuccino once. I haven't had a drink there since. We spent the day in Waldheim, unfortunately it was still too cold to sit outside, we ate delicious food and the price was fair. Dogs welcome, service sometimes not particularly friendly. We'll still be back ☺️ and would be happy if this lady just had bad days 😉

Very cozy restaurant, good German cuisine. There are creative vegetarian dishes here, instead of cheese spaetzle and pasta with pesto like everywhere else! Top!

After an unfriendly order, I received a schnitzel where the breading was thicker than the schnitzel. The soles of my shoes were softer and the fries were too salty. I could have spent the €13.90 on something better.

Unfortunately our visit was an extremely disappointing affair. According to the opening times and in front of the restaurant, warm food should be available until 8 p.m. When we wanted to order at 7 p.m. it was mentioned that there were no more hot dishes available. A sign was suddenly put out - it wasn't there before. It's a shame with the planned order for 6 people. Otherwise we were always satisfied. But this time we had to experience this disappointment. We definitely won't go here again.

We have a weekend house in Bad Münster and always visit the beer garden when we are there. There is nothing to complain about about the food. The portions are large and taste good too. The price is also reasonable. We were there for lunch in August in wonderful sunshine. Of course there were a lot of other guests besides us. This time we found it really annoying that the food number was called out very loudly every minute. This spoils the beautiful ambience of the beer garden. You could now move on to these devices that come with you at the table. I would welcome it now.

Dear innkeeper, this review only refers to the “Aperol Spritz” on the menu: please leave it out or learn how to make it. A "red something" in a small wine glass doesn't cost 6.50 euros. It's a shame, because things like this spoil the otherwise good food.

The food came very quickly. The service was also quick and friendly. It is pleasing that there is also a selection of vegetarian dishes. However, the vegetarian Seitan goulash didn't really impress me.

For a forest restaurant it's okay. I had the pepper cream schnitzel. It was more brown sauce instead of cream sauce and very greasy. The fries weren't cooked well. Unfortunately a bit too expensive for the price.

Nice and quiet location with a great beer garden and an outdoor bowling alley, where unfortunately two pins were missing. It's nothing special, but it's worth a trip there.

Schnitzel with fries on top, no matter what variation! We were disappointed by the half chicken, not really tasty, and the market salad with baked soft cheese. This is definitely not worth the 17.50 euros. Prices have risen sharply, so that not every walk in the forest is associated with a stop. A pity!

We ate there 10 days ago. After ordering and paying, we were given a number for the food, which was called shortly later! The portions, in our case schnitzel, were sufficient and tasty! A nice beer garden where the children can play!

Hello, today was the first time but certainly not the last time in Waldheim. The service was friendly and the food was delicious and fresh. We found the millet croquettes and the wild mushroom sauce particularly tasty; they were heavenly. Big praise for the service and kitchen 😊

I'm glad that there is finally a place where you can serve vegetarian and vegan food. But it's always nice with you in other ways too! In the middle of the forest...simply wonderful! The staff is always nice and accommodating.

In the forest, in the fresh air, under the trees!! It tastes particularly good there. The whole team provides delicious drinks and food. You get it at the food counter and bring your dishes back after eating. So far everyone we have invited to Waldheim has been impressed by the food and ambience.

Schön gelegen mitten im Wald, Getränke waren gut gekühlt aber dies war auch schon das Positive! Schweineschnitzel nicht aus der Oberschale, Fleisch (Pute oder Schwein) trocken und zäh (evtl. in der Friteuse gebraten / fritiert ). Die Waldpilzsauce war Pampe mit wenigen Pilzen. Unteres Kantinenniveau ! Kurzum es lohnt nur die Lage und ein kühles Getränk. Liebloses und geschmackfreies Essen für gutes Geld.

We had reserved and were only served after about 30 minutes upon request. The waitress tried to be nice. There was no children's menu, so the boss didn't like a child's name on the menu. The simple meal (small menu) came over an hour later and the price-performance ratio wasn't right. The Wiener Schnitzel only tasted good with sauce. Unfortunately everyone was unfriendly.

The Waldheim is wonderfully located and the ambience in the beer garden is almost legendary! The fact that the food itself has to be picked up via a receipt and then called up over the loudspeaker is also cult! In the past I would have given 5 Google stars without any problem because everything fit together: ambience, service and food! Unfortunately, the quality has deteriorated under the new tenants and the prices have increased at the same time. Admittedly, the tenant was also unlucky because he “started” right around Corona time. Nevertheless, in the past everything was rock solid and the quality was consistent, today it's a bit of a matter of luck. Daily menus are sometimes disappointing, or are simply not there. I've already been "lucky" twice that the "Grandma's Sunday menu" simply wasn't available on Sunday. Two weeks ago I was "lucky" and there was a Sunday menu, which unfortunately disappointed me a bit... ...there were mediocre meatballs, and the carrots in cream sauce didn't exactly give the impression that they were homemade. Nevertheless, I will come back, the atmosphere in the beer garden is just too nice in summer. I still hope that the new tenant gets the hang of things and doesn't sink into mediocrity and works on quality.

We have been impressed by the Waldheim, the ambience in nature and good food for years. Unfortunately not a good atmosphere today, the back room was not lit, no light decorations on the tables. Atmosphere like in a canteen. We would understand the increased prices if the quality was also corresponding. The service staff is in no way instructed to accommodate the guest. Unfortunately not again😥

A good restaurant in itself - especially if you go hiking. But unfortunately today we found ourselves in front of a closed door after a long hike. Unfortunately there is no information about this on the internet. We had been informed beforehand. If you run a website, closing times should definitely be communicated there.

It is a beautiful forest restaurant where you can also bring your dog. The staff are very friendly, the food is good and the prices are reasonable. So a crowning conclusion if you have previously taken a hiking trip on one of the beautiful routes around the Kuhberg.

Das neue Waldheim bietet sich perfekt an, um den Tag nach einem Waldspaziergang ausklingen zu lassen. Einfache, leckere Gerichte; Selbstbedienung draußen - ideal auch mit Kindern und Hund. Alles etwas rustikal, aber das passt ja in den Wald. Die Kinder-Spielgeräte sind leider doch ziemlich in die Jahre gekommen.

Zur Begrüßung wurden wir erst einmal ignoriert, bis die Chefin die Bedienung recht unfreundlich aufforderte sich um einen Tisch zu kümmern und den am besten auch sauber zu machen und abzuräumen. Ich fragte die Bedienung nach einer zweiten Speisekarte, woraufhin sie auf nimmer wiedersehen verschwand. Meine Frau hatte eine Rückfrage bezüglich der Beilagen, die Bedienung wusste es nicht und wollte in der Küche Fragen und kann dann leider nicht mehr wieder. Als der Salat serviert wurde, bat ich um eine Pfeffermühle, wieder das gleiche, die Bedienung ließ sich nicht mehr blicken. Erst als der Hauptgang von einem vierten, diesmal Kellner, serviert wurde, brachte er auf Nachfrage auch rasch die Pfeffermühle. Teilweise Gedächtnisverlust in der Belegschaft. Das Essen hat uns gut geschmeckt. Das Ambiente war nett. Abgesehen vom Service kann man das Waldheim somit empfehlen. Und im Sommer passiert so etwas sowieso nicht, da dann im Außenbereich Selbstbedienung ist.

Tolles Plätzchen zum Einkehren im Sommer. Zumeist hat man einen Schatteplatz, was ich sehr gut finde. Ist alles sehr gut organisiert und alles geht echt zügig, von der Bestellung bis zur Lieferung am Tresen zur Selbstabholung. Gutes Essen, gute Preise, schnell, was will man mehr.

Gutes Essen, schnell und heiß serviert, freundliches Personal, Zufahrt dürfte aufgrund der Schlaglöcher besser sein!
