Delicious food and wonderful service, dear Oliwer!

We ate there today and, as in the past, were NOT disappointed. The food tastes fantastic, simply delicious, so we highly recommend it. We were served today by waiter Oliwer K. Very friendly, highly motivated, and funny. He lives and breathes his job. Clearly, this service, and of course the food, deserves 10 out of 10!

The decor is cold and impersonal. The restaurant as a whole is not cozy. The menu is not clear enough, and there are no surcharges for spicy dishes, etc. It's not a comfortable place. The staff is somewhat odd. The atmosphere and mood are terrible.

I am very disappointed with the Mannheim rooftop garden. We had specifically reserved a table in the heated outdoor area, but upon arrival, we were assigned a table inside without any prior consultation. The staff showed no willingness to find a solution and simply explained that the outdoor area is usually full and reserved on Saturdays. Our reservation was thus disregarded, and the entire visit was disappointing.

The food was okay. The service was awful. They just walked past and ignored us. Drinks arrived late. Food arrived quickly. The second time, drinks were completely forgotten.

We simply wanted to have a drink around coffee time. Several servers walked past us until finally a waiter, clearly annoyed, took charge. He repeatedly asked if we really only wanted a drink, since it was "also a restaurant"—this made us feel distinctly unwelcome and uncomfortable. When we paid by card, a prompt appeared on the device to select a tip. Overall, the service was very dismissive; we have rarely felt so unwelcome in a restaurant.

The nicest area is unfortunately also the smoking area; the smoke barely dissipates, which is extremely unpleasant and a real shame. It would be so easy to solve. The view is lovely, and the staff is friendly.

I was ripped off at lunchtime. The menu states you can order one dish plus a hot drink of your choice. However, when paying the bill, the hot drink was charged separately! When I inquired about it, they explained that the lunch special only applied to espresso. I was never offered one! Furthermore, a hot drink of your choice doesn't automatically include an espresso. After I pointed this out, they still charged me full price for the cappuccino! I even had to specifically request the espresso. The waiter's response was: "Yes, several people have complained about this. But it's not my fault." I feel cheated. This is fraud! I will never eat here again.

SMOKER NOT WELCOME IN THE SMOKING AREA! As usual after our shopping trip in Mannheim, we went to the rooftop terrace to eat, drink, and smoke. We ate and drank a lot. Everything was fine. The service was also okay when it was still quiet. Later, the terrace filled up with several groups. The group sitting on the opposite side of the terrace complained to the waiter about us smoking in the SMOKING AREA, and the waiter took this as an opportunity to inform us. Of course, we know that due to poor pay, working hours, etc., it's difficult to find skilled staff in the restaurant industry, as they migrate to better-paying sectors and abroad where working conditions are better... But we expect better from an establishment like Engelhorn.

The music is way too loud. I want to eat and have a conversation, not go to a club. The service takes way too long, and nobody comes to take the payment.

Unfortunately, the service was so bad that it overshadowed everything else that was good.

Been here for multiple times, service always way below average, food just „okayish“, prices (in relation to quality) very high. Only argument in favour is the view/interior.

Delicious cocktails and food. With its open kitchen and lovely atmosphere, it's one of the nicest spots in Mannheim.

I love coming to the rooftop restaurant at Engelhorn Quadrat in Mannheim – the atmosphere, the food, and the view are truly lovely. You can tell that they put their heart and soul into it, and the staff is always friendly. However, what I've unfortunately noticed several times (and many other guests have mentioned it) is the very uncomfortable chairs and seating. For a restaurant in this category, a bit more comfort would be really desirable – after all, you want to relax and enjoy your meal. Perhaps the furniture could be reconsidered or replaced; that would make the experience much more pleasant. Otherwise, it's a great restaurant with great potential – just please: a little more comfort! 🙏

The burger was a dry affair. There were also mousey visitors. In the truest sense of the word. When we pointed this out to the waiter, he simply replied that there were already mouse traps set up everywhere and that every restaurant has mouse problems. I've never experienced a mouse almost running over my feet before. It's insane. I can only strongly advise everyone to avoid this restaurant.

Real shitty place, the service is slower than a man without legs and without a wheelchair

I ate at this restaurant with a friend yesterday. The food was very good quality and we both enjoyed it. When paying, I politely asked the waiter if my friend could pay for me, as he receives a discount on the meal as an Engelhorn employee. However, the waiter seemed to misunderstand this request – his reaction was unexpectedly rude and unprofessional. I also noticed that the staff seems to be under a lot of pressure, which negatively affects their interactions with guests. After this unpleasant experience, I lost my appetite and decided to avoid the restaurant in the future. While reading other reviews, I noticed that similar criticisms had been raised several times. It would be desirable for management to take this feedback seriously and take appropriate measures to improve service.

Unbelievable. Despite having reserved a table and being assigned a table by the friendly bar manager, the extremely arrogant and unfriendly waitress in the outside area refused to serve us at 2:00 PM on October 4, 2025, due to the short notice and literally asked us to leave. Since something like this has never happened to me before, I unfortunately couldn't help complaining to the manager and writing this review. I can only wish anyone who goes there anyway a better experience. I hope the waitress at least gains some understanding of her profession.

We were here for a company event. The entrance to the restaurant is on the side closest to the water tower. This entrance is to be used when the department store is closed.

I'm giving it 2 stars because the food was really delicious and the location is actually great. The service, at least that evening, was not good. We had a reservation at 7 p.m. We had to wait about 30 minutes before we finally got a seat. Supposedly, there was no reservation, but after 30 minutes of discussion, one suddenly appeared. We were also initially ignored by the staff for quite a while. It was easily 10 minutes, during which they walked past us several times. After 40 minutes, we were finally able to order drinks, and after another 10 minutes, finally, our food. When paying, one of our group was overcharged €10. (She got her money back.) Other guests were also quite annoyed with the service. We noticed this at two other tables. More information about seating reservations. We could have gotten several tables for two. These would probably have been put together. Here, however, we wanted to wait for the rest of the group and were then ignored again, even though we tried to show that we were all there. This meant we at least got a large table, as other guests had left by then. It took about 10 minutes for the table to be cleared. I wonder why clearing a table always takes so long. (I've been a waitress myself and know that drinks service, etc., has to wait.) The waiter also took a detour to the kitchen instead of quickly taking the glasses. Unfortunately, smoking was permitted there, even though the window was only open a crack. It takes time, but you can still smell the smoke after a while.

The roof garden above the Engelhorn is definitely worth a visit! - They serve truly delicious 😋 food and good drinks. The great thing is, there's a kind of "lounge" (with a sofa) where you can enjoy a cozy coffee, or there's the restaurant, where you can also sit upstairs in the winter garden. Spacious, beautiful, and clean. You'll find it on the 6th floor. 5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

We were there with a larger group and everything tasted good as far as I could tell. The service was also nice and friendly and the view from the terrace is beautiful.

I only ordered a pizza with vegetables, but had to order in English since I don't speak German. The person who took my order seemed a bit annoyed, which bothered me a bit. After only two slices of my pizza remained, I asked for a wrapper – and they helped me with that. However, they were a bit lacking in friendliness. The pizza itself, however, was truly delicious, and the atmosphere was very nice and cozy.

Perfect for a drink, lunch, or dinner. Lunch is a great option for a more than fair price: only €14.50. The restaurant has a splendid panoramic terrace with a sweeping view of the city, truly breathtaking. The kitchen is located in the center of the restaurant, completely exposed thanks to the glass walls: everything is transparent, nothing is hidden—a bold choice that demonstrates safety and quality. This place is worth it for everything: the excellent cuisine, the friendly and helpful staff, the refined atmosphere, and of course the wonderful view. I highly recommend trying the new Déjà-Vu drinks—amazing!

A complete surprise. I was invited to a business lunch at the restaurant on the 6th floor of the Engelhorn Hotel. A very friendly welcome, a beautiful roof terrace with a fantastic view over the rooftops of Mannheim, and good food at a reasonable price. Definitely recommend it, I'd gladly go again.

The Bodenlos Happy Hour doesn't match the one on social media! Customers who came specifically for the happy hour are being misled.

We were there for dinner. We had a lovely evening. I highly recommend the spinach dumplings with Parmesan cheese and the side salad. The homemade lemon-mint lemonade is a must-try. It was incredibly delicious and refreshing. Great atmosphere with a view over the rooftops of Mannheim. It was especially beautiful at sunset. Very friendly and attentive staff, with short wait times. Professional service despite the warm weather. Despite arriving early, a table was specially prepared for us outside on the roof terrace. The roof garden is a feel-good oasis in the middle of the city. The atmosphere is relaxed and a great place to linger. Particularly impressive is the successful combination of urban flair and natural ambiance, with plenty of greenery and comfortable seating. The staff was consistently friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be back.

We were there on a Friday evening and were actually looking forward to a nice restaurant visit. The entire restaurant was empty, but upon entering, we were initially put off with the explanation that they would have to see if there was a table for two – which, to be honest, was quite irritating. Despite the emptiness, they then wanted to seat us at a table that was already occupied. Very strange. When we ordered our food, we were looking forward to the advertised udon noodles – but we received a completely different type of noodle, without any explanation or warning. The food tasted okay, but absolutely not worth the price. The low point came when we used the restroom. The restrooms were in a shockingly unsanitary condition: dirty floors, dirty stalls – no matter which one you went to. This is in stark contrast to the otherwise rather "upscale" appearance of the restaurant. Overall, a disappointing visit; neither the atmosphere, service, nor cleanliness were up to scratch. We definitely won't be back.

I come here at least once a week with my colleagues. I love this place; it feels like my second living room. The food is delicious and the drinks are great too. The waitresses are all incredibly polite and happy to welcome regulars. I can only recommend this place.

We spontaneously stopped by the restaurant yesterday. The vegetable curry with chicken was okay, but the salad with sesame dressing was absolutely delicious! Our waiter, Maurice, was super friendly and attentive, and not only gave us advice, but also served us his recommendations – with charm, wit, and enthusiasm. A lovely evening with excellent service – we'd love to come back.

After the friendly waiter opened the sunshades, we sat on ENGELHORN's roof garden at high noon, enjoying a pleasant summer breeze – a wonderful spot at 34°C in Mannheim. They package the classic burger in a small bag, so you can grab it with both hands and bite into it heartily. This makes it taste even more delicious, and my companion was also very happy with her plain salad with sweet potato fries.

A place that's only concerned with profit! The following situation: Nine of us met up to "celebrate" my bachelor's degree. A friend had brought a small brownie cake. Since we obviously didn't want to just eat the cake in the restaurant, we asked the waiter if it would be okay to eat it. The waiter replied, "Sure, if you order something to eat too." Each of the nine of us ordered a drink (including several more expensive alcoholic beverages). Then the waiter came back to take our food orders. Half of us ordered something to eat, and the rest didn't. Then the waiter said, "Okay, guys, this isn't okay, you're ordering so little here. I should actually charge you €3.50 per person for the cake." We found that incredibly unfriendly. Firstly, because we had only been sitting for 10 minutes and obviously wanted to order a lot more, and secondly, because I had asked beforehand, and we only ate the cake because the waiter didn't think it was a problem at all. After my friend pointed this out to him and said she found this comment incredibly inappropriate, the waiter said, "My boss told me to make sure this table makes a profit." What a disgrace! We no longer felt welcome. We would have preferred to leave, but the food had already been ordered. We probably each left around €20 and would have ordered more if the connoisseur hadn't been so incredibly cheeky. I've been there several times, especially with my family (you can find my father's review very quickly). But this was definitely the last time! Nevertheless, I have to be honest: the location is nice, it was warm, and the view from the terrace is good. The food was okay. But that could also be because everyone wasn't really hungry anymore, as the situation was so unpleasant.

Location, food and service are great. But if you don't like smoking cigarettes, the otherwise very nice terrace isn't quite ideal as smoking is allowed outside. When we were there, someone was sitting next to us who was smoking a big cigar and hazing us with it...We decided to drink the coffee we had planned for there instead somewhere else 😉. Otherwise: beautiful and delicious!

This was our first visit to the roof garden and it exceeded all expectations. The ambience and the Aperol were totally convincing. The best thing about the visit, however, was the exceptionally delightful service from Ms. Augustin. She had a charisma that I have never experienced in any other establishment. A great experience!!!

I used to really enjoy going to this restaurant, but after my last visit I definitely won't be coming back. I ordered a burger that I didn't like at all. When I tried to point this out to the waiter, I was accused of having to say something straight away - when in fact I only waited for him for a maximum of 5-8 minutes to calmly clarify the problem. It wasn't about getting any kind of discount or proof, but rather about treating the customer with respect. Instead of understanding or a professional solution, I was accused of lying. After an unpleasant discussion, I was only offered a minimal discount on the fries, which I didn't even eat. A disappointing and unnecessarily stressful way of dealing with customers. It's a shame because I actually liked the restaurant.

Whenever I go shopping in Mannheim, I eat in the roof garden and am very satisfied. The food and drinks (homemade lemonade) are very good, I have always enjoyed them. The service is noteworthy, everyone is very friendly, quick and there is a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere! Absolute recommendation 😊

It was nice in the roof garden, service, ambience and food were good. I would strongly recommend replacing the cheddar cream with the tortilla chips. The stuff tastes like nothing and looks like yellow paste - sorry...

We were in the restaurant for the first time. The food was super tasty, we had an antipasti plate, a burger and the spinach dumplings. Everything was exceptionally good, we were really excited! Our waiter was very friendly, attentive but not intrusive. We also found the design/ambience very pleasant. All in all, I recommend the restaurant without reservation! Great homemade drinks and the food was just great, fresh, homemade and a good portion, Will definitely come by more often. I'm thrilled 01/04/2024 We have been there several times now and I can say today was the last time I was there. We had a children's burger that was a mini bun with a small meatball and ketchup 🤣. My burger costs 16.80 euros and fries 5 euros extra. You couldn't taste the BBQ sauce and the meat was coarse, which is great but unfortunately it tastes like bratwurst. I've been there 4 to 5 times now and unfortunately I wouldn't recommend it to eat there anymore. The food is overpriced and not particularly tasty.

Not recommended. We had to wait a while in the entrance until we were shown to a table that had been vacant for a while. We were not served at the table several times and were told that each waitress had his own area. After 45 minutes of waiting and no service, we left the place.

First day back in my home country... Really looked forward to go out and enjoy local hospitality however was shocked about the welcome at Dachgarten and the general lack of interest and customer focus of the service staff. Not only were the person of contact not helpful but actually flat out rude. 2nd contact I was left standing at the bar, while 4 people were so occupied with themselves that noone noticed me or gave a minimum level of attention. The food was really good however this is just part of the experience... I am wondering what people from overseas think leaving a place like this...

Very nice location, whether for a business meeting or to start the evening in Mannheim. We made a reservation for the terrace incorrectly. There was no table available for the appointment. But it speaks for the service that they got the problem under control. We didn't even have to use a reserve table. Sitting on the terrace looks good and is very comfortable even at low temperatures. Drinks were exciting, such as “Quitte Bitte” or the “Moscow Mule”. The fact that there was no Pina Colada was a bit irritating, but the bartender quickly whipped up a replacement. We only had snacks, we can't judge real food.

Hatte Entenkeule bestellt. Unterirdisch schlecht! Keule war wohl auf dem Grill gemacht ! Keine knusprige Haut . Komplett ohne Würze. Soße geschmacksneutral nur mit Salz und Pfeffer halbwegs essbar. Knödel Fertigprodukt ohne Geschmack! Und das für 26,90 Euro! Also ich habe noch nie so schlecht gegessen! Nie wieder Dachgarten!

Very pleasant atmosphere, good cocktails and delicious food. The prices are within reason.

Das Interieur ist ähnlich wie im Faces sehr „aufgeräumt“. Geschmacksache. Vom Personal kann man dies leider nicht behaupten. Anfangs noch sehr freundlich, wird der „Chief“-Organisator ziemlich patzig als wir ihn darauf hinweisen, dass wir gerne noch etwas trinken möchten. Auch die 2 Stunden zuvor, mussten wir uns immer wieder bemerkbar machen, damit wir bedient wurden. Nachgefragt, ob wir noch etwas „möchten“, wurde nie. Dafür stand das Personal lieber im Bereich der Küche für einen Plausch zusammen. Ist auch schöner als auf der Dachterrasse.

Came across the location by chance. On the roof terrace you have a great overview of the city including the sunset. The ambience inside is also great, the service is friendly. The menu could be a little more varied, the tortilla with guacamole and cheese unfortunately tasted like it was fresh out of the bag/canned food. The spinach dumplings were very tasty.
