Da Jia Le in Berlin

It's incomprehensible why this restaurant has such good ratings. The food is mediocre at best, the atmosphere awful.

After reading a report in the Tagesspiegel, my husband and I ate at Da Jia Le last night. We found it very disappointing overall. The ambiance was quite basic and very loud. The food was below average. My husband had sweet and sour duck, and I had beef with mushrooms, which was unfortunately very salty. The menus were grubby, and the restrooms were unkempt. No reason to come back.

The food was simply fantastic! They also had a great selection of German beers and wines. Dishes like the steamed sea bass were perfect for sharing. The ambiance left something to be desired, but the superb food more than made up for it!

The food is soooo good… and that's why I don't even want to address the comments about the ambiance, etc. We appreciate the authentic, original offerings, the unusual combination of beer and Chinese cuisine that is absolutely unrivaled in Berlin. The service is attentive, friendly, and never gets bogged down, even when it's busy. It's very, very sad that our time on Goebenstrasse is coming to an end. We wish you the best of luck in finding a new location and hope that things will soon continue somewhere as usual.

If you're going to write "braised," at least make it braised! And the "tomato beef brisket pot" had barely any beef—just a few sad pieces floating in ketchup-flavored soup. Went midweek for lunch, was relatively empty. The menu and the flavours are legit, but I didn’t find it particularly tasty. Felt like it’s a restaurant that’s had its day.

Even though the ambiance leaves a lot to be desired, the food is 100% convincing. Authentic, delicious, and fresh. Everything is served very appetizingly. The portions are also a good size, and the taste is top-notch.

I love this place so much, the most delicious Chinese food I’ve ever had. Can’t get enough of the Szechuan tofu and the fried aubergine but all the veggie stuff is great. Very reasonably priced too - if you go and share a few large dishes and have a drink you might pay 20€ per person. I also love the atmosphere and the fact they don’t play music. Great place to go with a bigger group because they have lots of space and can usually seat you right away.

Very delicious, authentic Chinese food...unfortunately, the restaurant will have to close at the end of December 2025 because the monthly rent has risen to €10,000. It's very unfortunate that after 37 years, it's impossible to generate this amount of income, even though the restaurant is always busy. It's sad what the greed of the property owners has achieved once again...😢😢😢

After some Google Maps -mining found, that they served Sichuan boiled beef (Shuizhu Niurou). Was not dissapointed. Food was delicious, service was great. If I lived in Berlin, I would eat here once a week. It was that good.

One of the best Asian restaurants around! The food was absolutely top-notch – super fresh, truly delicious, and the portions huge. For the price, it's really hard to beat. What's particularly cool is that you can get as much rice as you want – that's a real rarity these days. The service was friendly and uncomplicated – fitting well with the overall atmosphere. The ambiance is okay. The area isn't the prettiest, but the interior is clean, cozy, and decorated in an Asian style. There's hardly any waiting time – only if you reorder, it can take a while, but that's understandable given the crowds. A clear recommendation for anyone who wants really good Asian food – in my opinion, one of the best Asian restaurants around!

This is my favorite Chinese of all time. I have been here countless times with friends and family. Thank you for everything!

A feast for the palate: Each of the dishes served impressed with depth, precision, and a finely balanced interplay of flavors. Particularly noteworthy are the 21 Tofu Skins, whose texture and flavor are sure to delight even skeptics, as well as the 32 Yuxiang Pork, which scores with its balanced sweetness and acidity. Also fondly remembered are the 35 Sweet & Sour Pork Cutlets, 53 Szechuan-Style Chili Beef, and 72 Szechuan-Style Fried Chicken – all masterfully prepared, with characterful fire and refinement. The ambiance, however, noticeably undermines the culinary excellence. The decor and atmosphere seem dated, almost museum-like, without exuding the charm of bygone days. A subtle background music or a harmonious backdrop would add much-needed vibrancy and warmth to the space. The drinks menu is a pleasant surprise: The selection of craft beers and wines is well-thought-out and complements the spicy flavors of the dishes in a successful way – for example, Wittmann on the wine list. A culinary gem – one that could reach its full potential with a little fine-tuning.

Attracted by a report on RBB, we weren't particularly impressed at first and had already considered leaving. The menu desperately needed to be changed, as it didn't look that appealing. The ambiance wasn't that great either, but the food was fantastic. Luckily, we stayed. The service was also very good. The menu and the restroom area should be updated. After all, eating isn't a visual experience.

If you want authentic Chinese food but also local Craft Beer, go here 😁. The best combo for us.

We sat outside and it was very hot and sunny which was great but also a bit annoying since the sun was shining in our faces. We were very happy when the restaurant opened their shades when they saw us struggling. Also the food was very tasty.

Authentic Chinese food. We (my wife and I) went there on Saturday evening (at around 8 pm on 15th March) without any reservation and got a table. Good stuff and flavourful food. Must try - Sichuan-style pork stew in chili sauce.

Most delicious food I ate in Berlin. After spending days suffering under a culture of spice-aversion, this was a revelation. Sichuan chicken was powerfully yummy.

Excellent food and a different selection of dishes that I know from other Chinese restaurants. Really great. There is a star deduction for our service. I think we were unlucky and caught the employee who didn't feel like it and made us feel it. I think the service is better if you sit downstairs anyway. Nevertheless, I would come back, only then would I hopefully get another service person.

Did a delivery of seafood with tofu stew (through Wolt) and there was hardly any mixed seafood in it - most of it was surimi sticks (which is highly processed fish sticks with chemicals). Also, the packaging was terrible - a lot of it leaked in the bag. Bad experience overall.

This is a favourite amongst locals and anyone with an appetite. Great value and great flavors. One should go here simply to have a wonderful and hearty meal. More of a mess hall style atmosphere but everyone is satisfied. Excellent Chinese food.

The food tastes excellent and you can't complain. However, it takes far too long to order and pay, and the store has no ventilation. You have to have everything you wear cleaned immediately to get the kitchen smell out.

Everything is just great. Very international, younger audience at the large, round turntables. Very tasty northern Chinese food. I recommend the cuttlefish strips, the beef with cumin and my favorite dish: the fried pork stomach slices. I've enjoyed going there for many years.

the food is just fine, if one has no expectations. the option of sharing (small) dishes seems recommendable in this venue, as such is not unlikely to balance out the experience. service is friendly and not slow. the process of acclimatizing to the ambiente may take some time (to put it mildly), and one will probably have to turn a blind eye to some things or features, which simply don't fit in.

This place made me homesick for the Chinatown restaurants in New York. I love it and it’s my new go to Chinese spot as a New Yorker in Berlin. The food is on paar with some of New Yorks best Chinese food. Authentic and stellar. This place made me very happy.

Genuine Chinese food, recommended!

For me personally the best Chinese in Berlin. It looks a bit inconspicuous from the outside and the furnishings largely avoid the somewhat tasteless kitsch that we know from some Chinese villagers, but it is very cozy once you're inside. The selection of dishes is very extensive and if you are a fan of spicy food and authentic Chinese spices such as Sichuan pepper, you will get your money's worth here. There are also a handful of vegetarian dishes to choose from. Another highlight is the beer menu. Interestingly, the restaurant has a large selection of excellent craft beers. In terms of price, the whole thing is about mid-range and definitely justified for me given the quality. Only the toilets could be a little cleaner for my taste.

A great restaurant: very nice service, a varied menu with many dishes that you can't get anywhere else. All of our dishes (starters, meat, vegetarian) were delicious! Everything is also very family-friendly, we were there with two kids. You can still work on the ambience, it's getting a bit old.

You would get five stars from me. Unfortunately, the two stars are deducted because you deliver with Wolt. Wolt took forever and delivered cold and sticky food. Do yourself a favor and find another supplier. Good luck!

Great food & great service except the credit card issue; they weirdly accept only deutsche bank cards

Very authentic Chinese restaurant (from the perspective of a China traveler). The food was very tasty and an interesting experience in terms of taste. Some dishes are special and you have to like them (e.g. Sichuan style with aniseed). We ordered a variety of typical Chinese dishes and shared them. The atmosphere is relatively simple...

Unfortunately not a secret spot anymore, this local gem is now well known in and outside of Berlin. The dishes are very authentic and the service very friendly. We always visit now during the week because it is way too crowded at the weekend. Order the spicy Chicken, eggplants and the spicy sichuan beef!

Good food, service and bit slow

We were pleasantly surprised during our visit today and I have to say it deserves 5 stars without a doubt! The food was exceptionally good. We ate our way through all the vegetarian dishes and each one suited our tastes. Additionally, the fish stew and crispy chicken were to die for. Another highlight was the huge selection of beers that was offered with the food. This variety really rounded off the culinary experience. For anyone looking for authentic, quality Chinese cuisine, I highly recommend this restaurant. The quality of the food, the variety of the menu and the great drink selection make it worth a visit.

I was in Beijing a few weeks ago and the food at Da Jia Le is just as delicious as in China itself - super authentic. You can feel the European influence when it comes to the spiciness ;) Highly recommended!!

Food is super delicious. Service is good. Acoustics are bad, sounds like a chicken coop when it's full. I couldn't hear my partner even though he was sitting opposite... Gladly again anyway

food was good, especially fried dishes, except for fried rice, which was ok. quite louzy, talking with friends, sort of restaurant, not a quiet dining place. would be quite challenging to order if you're not familiar with chinese dishes, and photos do help, but not much.
