City Braustüb'l in Darmstadt

I ordered food, but unfortunately, the salad didn't come with any dressing. So I called the restaurant to ask if anything could be done. The man on the phone said something unintelligible and then just hung up. Now I get to enjoy dry salad leaves for €15. Thanks a lot.

We spontaneously decided to visit this restaurant. We're already familiar with the branch at the main train station and really like the atmosphere there. This location also has a similarly great ambiance and a good vibe. The waiters were attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, although some parts were a bit pricey (but not all of it). My only criticism, which is quite significant for me, concerns the restrooms! Going through the curtain to the restrooms, you're greeted by old, partially damaged, and completely neglected facilities. The doors don't lock; they can only be held open with a lever. If someone were to push from the outside, they would open immediately. It's a shame, because this left a slightly negative impression on the entire restaurant visit.

The food is supposed to be very good but this is the third time we are refused in this restaurant because we are with young kids or with a prom. This local (and the personal) is not friendly with family with kids. Strongly NOT recommended for familie.

A cozy brewery pub with a great atmosphere and really good beer. The food is down-to-earth and delicious, and the service is super friendly and attentive. Perfect for a relaxed evening with friends.

Shortest restaurant visit ever. The two of us came in and chose a table we liked. There were two used glasses on the table. The skinny, red-haired guy at the counter told us to take the table next door because the one we had chosen wasn't clean yet. I asked him if we could take that table after it was cleaned. He came to the table, annoyed, and cleaned it. His reaction put me in a bad mood. I told him I'd only been there a few minutes and I was already in a bad mood because of his reaction. When he asked why, an older man (presumably the manager) came over and worsened my mood even further with his comment. If we choose a table, we want it. People like that don't belong in a restaurant! We left. Anyone who can afford to treat customers like that these days has no idea what's going on.

Cozy, mixed crowd, good food, good prices

Disaster service! They have a male waitress who should have been fired years ago. The poor man has been able to serve customers for years! What a shame for the store.

A currently inconspicuous restaurant near the church, nicknamed "Cheese Bell" by Darmstadt residents because of its vaulted ceiling. The food was very good, and the service was super friendly.

A very cozy German restaurant. Fair prices and decent portions. The beef salad was extremely juicy. Very attentive service. Only the pretzel and the herb quark were sticky and tasted bland. Please work on that. The ambiance is very nicely designed and clean. Definitely worth a visit.

Top-notch food, terrible service. The kitchen conjures up truly delicious dishes – unfortunately, you need the patience of a saint, as the two waitresses seem to be operating in "forget-me-not" mode. Today (Saturday, 4 p.m.) we visited the City Braustübl for the second time in a row, and unfortunately, for the second time, we were completely disappointed. It used to be one of our favorite restaurants in Darmstadt's city center—rustic interior, pleasant beer garden, and beautiful location. But the service and cuisine have now reached a level that guests can no longer be expected to endure. The wait staff on the outdoor terrace were completely overwhelmed: we only got our tickets after calling several times, the table was still full from the previous visit and wasn't cleared during our entire stay. Cutlery was missing; everything seemed improvised and chaotic. The wait for the food was exceptionally long. When my "Musigg" tarte flambée was served, the sour cream was completely missing—all that remained was a dry, thin pastry base with a few charred blobs of Harzer cheese and diced onions. The taste was simply inedible. After the complaint, the kitchen's succinct response was that we shouldn't "play politics" – a complete impertinence. The tarte flambée was canceled, but the other two dishes at the table were also cold and inedible. Guests at the neighboring table had to wait over an hour for their food; one of their orders never arrived. When a schnitzel finally arrived, it was the wrong one – the kitchen quickly tried to "correct" it by adding sauce and serving a mini salad. Conclusion: This was definitely our last visit. Worst service and worst food in a long time – a real shame, because the restaurant actually has potential.

Helles Naturtrübes is my go-to beer. In winter they might have delicious bock beer too. Food is very taste and the portions are very generous as well. The cute internal biergarten is the best location for the warm season!

What a shame! We were looking forward to the lovely courtyard in the mild summer weather and made a reservation, only to end up sitting inside with the unfortunately mediocre food. Unfortunately, the courtyard is closed. It used to be better!

Typical German home cooking. We have a daily special: classic schnitzel of excellent quality—you can see that the chef has mastered his craft 😋🥰😋, served with potato salad. I highly recommend this restaurant 😋😋😋🥰

This was one of the best restaurants during my stay in Germany. I love hakuse and this place's Schweinehaxe is the best I've ever had while eating out. The beer sauce is just too good. The hakuse was cooked well and not too hard, but it was a shame that some parts of the inside were cold, probably because it was cooked twice. However, the deliciousness of the sauce made up for that. Also, it was served with a salad instead of sauerkraut, and this slightly sweet salad went perfectly with the meat and sauce. The hospitality was also wonderful.

Wir waren abends im Braustübl. Natürlich wollten wir alle Biersorten probieren. Der freundliche Keller brachte uns 4 Probiergläser (super). Dazu bestllten wir eine gegrillte Schweinshaxe. Das war toll. Wir haben es fast nicht geschafft, so groß war die Haxe. Auch durch die Freundlichkeit der Kellner war das ein tolles Erlebnis.

I actually discovered the City Braustüb'l by chance. There is a beautiful, small beer garden at the back of the Stüb'l. The service was extremely accommodating during my visit.

Very welcoming German pub, all in wood, with central bar, internal rooms, outside tables and back garden. There is a wide choice of local beers including non-alcoholic ones. A cola that is not coke but similar to the one from the discount store will be served to you when you ask for a coke. The meats are good, the sauerkraut salad is excellent. The staff is very welcoming and polite.

I've eaten there twice already, once with a larger company group. The food is served very quickly, and the service is friendly and attentive. Am Samstag, den 01.02.2025, haben wir nachmittags das " City-Braustüb'l" mit einer Gruppe von insgesamt 12 Personen besucht. Vom Ambiente her, mit seiner einfachen, aber gemütlich wirkenden Ausstattung,gefiel es uns recht gut. Es hat zwar recht lange gedauert, bis die Bestellungen aufgenommen wurden, was uns aber nicht so sehr störte, da wir in fröhlicher Runde zusammen saßen und den Nachmittag genießen wollten. Das Personal war zudem auch sehr freundlich. Leider gab es ein Ereignis, dass uns allen den Nachmittag so gründlich verdorben hat, mit der Folge, dass wir alle umgehend bezahlten und das Lokal verließen. Was ist passiert ? Eine Dame aus unserer Gruppe stellte fest, nachdem Sie ihr Essen ca. zur Hälfte verspeist hatte, dass sich in der restlichen Hälfte des Essens ein eingebackenes, langes, Haar befand. Das hat sie dann bei der Servicekraft reklamiert. Dann kam der Geschäftsführer ( oder Inhaber ) hinzu und löste eine sehr befremdliche und unfreundliche Diskussion aus. Die Kundin wollte das Essen, wegen der Ungenießbarkeit, nicht bezahlen, woraufhin der Geschäftsführer sehr laut wurde, eigentlich noch den halben Preis verlangte, dann aber auf das Geld verzichtete und die Kundin, unser Gruppenmitglied, mit den sehr lauten Worten: "Danke für nichts, bitte kommen Sie nicht wieder" verabschiedete. Dieses ungebührliche und sehr unfreundliche Verhalten des Geschäftsführers (was sich im übrigen mit Rezensionen im Trip-Advisor deckt) muss erwähnt werden, damit potentielle zukünftige Kunden sich darauf vorbereiten können, dass sie im Falle einer Reklamation beschimpft werden. Diese, von mir verfasste Rezension, kann von den übrigen 11 Gruppenmitgliedern bestätigt werden, ist also vollständig war und nicht angreifbar, ist nicht beleidigend, nicht diffamierend und entspricht daher in vollem Umfang den "TripAdvisor-Richtlinien".

On Saturday, February 1st, 2025, In the afternoon we have the "City-Braustüb'l" with a group of total 12 people attended. We really liked the ambience, with its simple but cozy furnishings. It took quite a long time for the orders to be taken, but that didn't bother us too much as we were sitting together in a cheerful group and wanted to enjoy the afternoon. The staff was also very friendly. Unfortunately, there was an event that spoiled everyone's afternoon so thoroughly, with the result that we all paid immediately and left the restaurant. What happened ? A lady in our group noticed, after she had eaten about half of her food, that there was a long, baked hair in the remaining half of the food. She then complained about this to the service person. Then the manager (or owner) came along and sparked a very strange and unfriendly discussion. The customer didn't want to pay for the food because it was inedible, whereupon the manager became very loud and actually asked for half the price, but then gave up the money and the customer, our group member, said goodbye with the very loud words: "Thanks for nothing, please don't come back." This unseemly and very unfriendly behavior of the manager (which coincides with reviews in Trip Advisor) must be mentioned so that potential future customers can prepare themselves for being insulted in the event of a complaint. This review, written by me, can be confirmed by the remaining 11 group members, so it is completely true and not attackable, is not offensive, non-defamatory and therefore fully complies with the “Google guidelines”.

We were there last Saturday with a group of 12 people in total. We had already reserved in advance, but our table was only designed for 10 people. At the beginning I would like to say that the ladies and gentlemen in service were very courteous and friendly. Unfortunately, quite the opposite of the owner! One person in our group had a hair breaded in the schnitzel! The service staff was immediately made aware of this. Unfortunately, the owner was very offended and reproachful and insisted on paying half the price of the dish because they had started eating the dish before the hair was discovered. Of course we didn't want to pay for the food prepared with the hair! Instead of responding to the guest, the owner loudly issued a ban on future visits! A complaint has already been made here, which the owner viewed as “defamation” - good thing there were 11 witnesses! This way you can scare away the guests!

We had dinner at the Braustüb'l with 12 people. A nice, simple, quaint restaurant. The food is the same. Good home cooking for big stomachs. Unfortunately, a very unpleasant incident occurred. One of our group had long hair baked into her schnitzel. She then called for the boss. He said that since she had already eaten half of it, she had to pay for half of it. The young woman refused to pay. After consulting with our lawyer, this was absolutely correct. The landlord has no right to payment. Instead of reacting in a friendly manner and apologizing, the young woman was asked to leave the restaurant immediately and not to be seen again. I have absolutely no understanding of how guests should be treated like this. Therefore only one star. What a shame!! Another person from our group also wrote a review yesterday. Unfortunately this was deleted by Goggle due to DEFAMATION. That's probably what will happen with this review.

One of my favorite places in Darmstadt. Great atmosphere, super delicious food. Darmstadt beer, what more do you need.

Wir waren heute Mittag zum Geburtstagsessen dort. Ich bestellte ein Cola Light/Zero bekam ein Sinalco mit Sherry Geschmack. Wurde nicht zurück genommen. Ich bestellte ein Pfeffersteak mit Bratkartoffeln 24,50€ ohne Salat! Das Fleisch war zäh wie Leder das Sägemesser hat beim schneiden sich angehört als wenn man Stopp sägt. Habe das Fleisch nur zum Teil/Hunger gegessen und der Bedienung gesagt sie soll das dem Koch mitteilen....es kam keine Reaktion.... musste alles bezahlen.... ich werde da so schnell ich mehr hin gehen 142€ und nicht empfehlenswert....

Great ambience...super trained service...great value for money

We had a very nice Christmas party here. The waitresses were all very friendly and on the ball. The food was excellent and even small special requests were addressed without any problems. The portion size was decent and the food was served quickly. All in all a really nice evening... Thank you!

We dined there on a Wednesday evening with a reservation. It was very cozy and much bigger than you think. The service was very attentive. The food tasted very good, the portions were sufficient and the price was right. I would come back at any time.

Surely this was once a good restaurant. The emphasis is on earlier. The food was okay if you can ignore a poorly prepared loin with warmed spaetzle. But after 1 1/2 hours we had to move to the counter because the table was reserved for another group. I wish I had known that beforehand! Then we would have gone somewhere else to eat. For me it was a cafeteria atmosphere. Sit down, eat and make room for the next paying customers. Never ever!!!!

I had reserved a table for 4 people for Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 at 5 p.m. We got to the restaurant on time. The food was good and we were chatting when a waitress with a card reader appeared at 6:40 p.m. and wanted to cash in on us. We've been here for almost 2 hours now and the table has been reserved again for 7 p.m. We then paid grumblingly and as we were leaving the restaurant we met the boss and told him the story. He pointed at a young waiter that it was his fault, he hadn't told us we only had reservations for two hours. When we made the reservation, there was a woman on the phone. In any case, the City Braustübl is dead for us/me and there are alternatives: Grohe and Ratskeller.

Very nice and tasty food and delicious beer

The menu offers variety of local dishes with very good brewed beer. We ordered three different main dishes and all of them were good despite a busy dinner on a Friday evening. The service was fast. English menu is available.

Easy to reach and centrally located. The ambience was typical of what you are used to from Braustüb'l in Darmstadt. Food actually tasted pretty good. I had the “Alrgäuer Käsespätzle” with onions. Unfortunately the portion was a little smaller than expected. I still got full. I will definitely come back and recommend it to everyone.

After my visit to this restaurant, my appetite for schnitzel and other German dishes was completely eliminated. The meat was undercooked and I found raw meat in the schnitzel. Furthermore, we were not informed that you have to pay 3.50 euros for the schnitzel sauces. Since the waiters had to change the meat from pork to turkey, there was an additional charge for that. If that's not hospitable, I don't know what is. After many restaurant visits, this was the worst, both in terms of hospitality and food. It was overpriced and nothing special. It's better to go to a Greek restaurant, where you get significantly more for over 50 euros for two people.

We have now been to the City Braustübl for the umpteenth time and so far we can only report positive things. The service is always friendly, fast, attentive and there is some fun to be had. The food is fresh, tasty and plentiful and the price matches the performance. A very small negative point is the sanitary facilities, which have seen better days. In particular, this “wrapping” on the door handle of the women's toilet should either be made more hygienic or removed. Otherwise there was really never anything to complain about. We'd love to come back.

You don't even get to reserve a seat. Everything is available online and you get a rejection. If you call you are told that the boss will take care of it and unfortunately you can't get another time for the whole day. You can call later when the boss is there, but when that will be is not known because "the boss comes and goes when he wants, because he is the boss."

We had Wolt deliver to the hotel. The food came super quickly.

We would be forced to pay for a pork steak that smelled rotten and wouldn't be touched! We weren't allowed to complain about the food, even though it simply stank for me and my husband! What a disgrace! We just didn't feel like waiting for the police. A really successful evening!

I don't understand all these positive reviews, we booked a table, it was full of mouse droppings, we pointed it out and they changed the table, it was full there too, the excuse was that they were falling from the roof, now I would like to know how this is possible that the health and hygiene standards are respected, I wanted to get up and leave but my group wanted to eat there, so as not to make a fuss and be the only one I forced myself to stay. But I think he was wrong looking back. It will be as comfortable an environment as you like, but eating at a table where there are traces of rodent droppings can be minimally pleasant. We have visited the City Bräustüble restaurant in Darmstadt several times at lunchtime and were very satisfied every time. The lunch menu in particular always impresses us with its excellent price-performance ratio. The selection of dishes is varied and the portions are more than sufficient. There's nothing wrong with the taste either - here we offer down-to-earth, home-style cuisine that is freshly prepared and attractively presented. Another plus point is the attentive service: the service is always friendly, quick and very accommodating. Even though the restaurant is busy at lunchtime, we never had to wait long for our food. The food is served quickly, which is a big advantage, especially during the lunch break. The ambience in the City Bräustüble is rustic and cozy, which fits perfectly with the traditional, home-style offerings of the house. You immediately feel at home, whether you sit down inside in the rustic dining room or use the beautiful outdoor area in summer.

I actually love it with you, but you really need to do something about the mice in your area. If they're already in the dining room, I don't even want to know what it's like in the kitchen.

Attention parents with small children - mobile children are a nuisance! Delicious food, great ambience, nice waiters - that's why this was our choice every time we visited the city! But now our child is mobile, wants to run and explore the world. Even though the child was walking at my side, the waiter pointed out to us during a single walk through the restaurant that the child was not allowed to walk here! He made it very clear to us that he works here, that mobile children are a nuisance and that friendliness is not to be expected from him! Instead of such an announcement, perhaps another seat at the back or in the beer garden would have helped... What a shame! We left and are now looking for a new favorite restaurant in Darmstadt.

Very good and rich food. Price-performance ratio fits

Have been here several times and the restaurant always impresses with its great price-performance ratio. We were given a place outside, even though everything was very well occupied. Our son also got the fries in advance, which made our meal easier afterwards. In addition, the service is simply unbeatable, not only totally friendly but also quick. Gladly again!
