Das ist ein so authentisches, gemütliches indisches Restaurant. Das Essen schmeckt genau wie in Chennai und die Besitzer sind sehr freundlich. Alles wird mit Liebe zubereitet. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.

Das vegetarische Gericht ist wirklich authentisch und empfehlenswert.

Wir waren heute zum ersten Mal als Familie da und allem begeistert! Das Essen ist außergewöhnlich (!) lecker, der Service herzlich und aufmerksam. Für unseren Sohn wurde das Channa Masala extra mild gemacht und es hat ihm soooo gut geschmeckt. Dann hatten wir noch MASALA DOSA und Aloo Matar, Raita, Papadam und Lassi, es war ein Festessen! Erwähnenswert ist auch noch, dass es eine Rollstuhl -Toilette gibt.

Unscheinbar von außen. Interessante Mischung aus richtig gutem indischen Restaurant und vorne ein kleiner Kiosk. Team wirkt sehr familiär, Ambiente geht in Ordnung. Die Speise waren auf jeden Fall sehr lecker. Und zum Glück gehen die Preise auch in Ordnung. Vor allem die Speiseauswahl finde ich besonders gut, ich muss unbedingt wiederkommen.

Wegen guter Bewertung haben wir am Sonntagabend ohne Reservierung das Restaurant kurz nach 18:30 besucht. Zum Glück haben wir noch den letzten freien Tisch für drei Personen bekommen. Das Mangolassi ist sehr sehr gut, cremig, aromatisch und nicht zu süß. Davon haben wir zu zweit vier getrunken. Von den vielen Vorspeisen haben wir alle bestellt, was wir noch nicht kennen. Leider viel frittierte Sachen und kein Wow-Moment. Als Hauptspeise haben wir Butter Chicken - - mega gut, Gemüsecurry - - mäßig und Dosa mit Kartoffelnfüllung - - die Meinung ist umstritten. Als Nachtisch haben wir Pistazieneis und süße, heiße Bällchen. Das Eis ist nicht so süß, hat leider schon Eiskristal drin. Die Bällchen sind, wie erwartet, sehr süß. Der Service ist zuvorkommend und freundlich. Ganz schnell haben wir Getränke und Essen schon bekommen. Wir saßen in inneren Ecke, es war leider sehr laut. Insgesamt haben wir 99 Euro bezahlt.

Eines der wenigen, wenn nicht sogar das einzige authentische südindische (tamilische) Restaurant in und um Köln/Bonn. Masala Dosa, Vada und Tee sind unglaublich lecker. Ihr hausgemachtes Hühnercurry gehört zu den besten, die ich je in Deutschland gegessen habe. Definitiv einen Besuch wert, wenn man authentische südindische Küche erleben möchte.

Die Dosa im Chennai Chef war fantastisch. Wir hatten die Ghee Masala Dosa, die herrlich knusprig und perfekt gewürzt war. Nach der Schließung von Sarvana Bhanvan war das etwas schade, da es nicht mehr viele gute indische Restaurants gibt, die eine gute Dosa anbieten. Das Chennai Chef hat seinem Namen alle Ehre gemacht, und wir werden definitiv wiederkommen – sowohl wegen des Essens als auch wegen des hervorragenden Services.

Eines der besten Restaurants in der Gegend. Das Essen ist einfach köstlich (egal was man bestellt, es schmeckt garantiert), die Atmosphäre ist gemütlich und man fühlt sich vom Personal so herzlich empfangen, dass wir immer wieder gerne hierherkommen.

Für authentische südindische Dosa-Variationen ist ein Besuch ein Muss. Natürlich gibt es dort auch noch viele weitere Optionen.

Das Essen war sehr gut. Ich hatte ein nicht-vegetarisches Thali, das es nur sonntags gibt, Paneer Masala, Paratha, Medhu Vada, Kulfi und Mango Lassi. Es schmeckte wie selbstgekocht, ohne unnötige Gewürze und Öl wie in anderen indischen Restaurants. Chutney und Sambar wurden in reichlicher Menge zum Medhu Vada serviert.

Das Essen hat mir geschmeckt. Wegen des Regens war es schwül.

Ich bestellte Kaffee und Dosa und erwartete echten Chennai-Geschmack… aber die Erfahrung war absolut unverzeihlich.

Wir hatten folgende Dinge bestellt: Medhu vadai, Masala Dosa, Chili Chicken, Lamm Biryani, Mango Lassi, Masala Lassi und Pistazien Kulfi. Alles hat wie gesagt sehr gut geschmeckt.

Ein großes Lob an das Team für dieses unvergessliche Erlebnis! Die Köche wurden persönlich aus Tamil Nadu ausgewählt und garantieren so authentischen Geschmack und höchste Qualität. Ein absolutes Muss für Liebhaber der südindischen Küche, besonders wenn man in der Gegend um Köln unterwegs ist. Wir haben uns durch einen Großteil der Speisekarte probiert – von Idli und Set Dosa über Kurma Parota, Chicken Biryani, Mutton Biryani und Chicken Chennai Café bis hin zu Mysore Masala Dosa – und das Ganze mit einem hauseigenen Filterkaffee perfekt abgerundet. Insgesamt ein wunderschönes Erlebnis. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder, wenn wir in der Gegend um Köln sind. Zweifellos gehört dieses Restaurant zu den besten südindischen Restaurants in Deutschland.

Ich habe Essen über Uber Eats bestellt. Die Dosa war super, und meiner Familie hat das Essen auch sehr gut geschmeckt. Wenn ihr Lust auf authentisches südindisches Essen habt, seid ihr hier genau richtig.

Ich habe südindisches Essen sehr vermisst, nachdem ich ein Jahr in Indien gelebt hatte. Es war ein Genuss, es wieder zu probieren, und es war so authentisch, genau wie in Tamil Nadu. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich, und ich kann das Restaurant jedem wärmstens empfehlen, der Lust auf südindisches Essen hat oder es zum ersten Mal probieren möchte. ♥️

Super Lecker, super freundlich! Eins meiner lieblings Restaurants.

Erstaunlicherweise wurde der Reis zum Hauptgericht randhoch in einem Suppenteller serviert, die Soße und das Fleisch in einer kleinen Terrine. Der Reis als Beilage gehört doch in einer Schüssel serviert, woraus man sich nach Bedarf auf den Teller nachfüllt. Das Fleisch (Lamm) war ziemlich zäh. Lobenswert die große Auswahl für Veganer. Statt Espresso -wie auf der Karte angeboten- gab es nur Filterkaffee. Leider wurden wir nach 2 Stunden genötigt, den Tisch freizumachen, da noch andere Gäste warten würden. Bei der Reservierung wurde aber nichts von einer Zeitbeschränkung gesagt. Insgesamt alles etwas unbefriedigend. Es gibt sicher bessere und gastfreundlichere indische Lokale in Köln.

Absolut empfehlenswert für südindische Küche. Wer einmal da war, kommt mit Sicherheit wieder!

Super indischer Restaurant! Für mich das beste in Köln :) alles schmeckt super und sieht frisch aus und ist nicht zu fettig. Wir bestellen gerne und holen es ab. Werden es bestimmt noch oft machen!

Chennai Chef ist der beste Südinder um Köln/Bonn, absolut mega! Die riesige Dosa war knusprig mit super cremigem Sambar, Chutneys und leckeren Kartoffeln gefüllt, hammergeil. Biryani und Currys schmecken wie direkt aus Chennai, würzig frisch und perfekt abgestimmt. Die Thali mit Chicken Biryani, zartem Huhn Curry, Raita, Beilagen und Reis ist ne Vielfalt, die süchtig macht. Team total nett und locker, gemütlich drin. Ich komm wieder und sag jedem: Hier hin!

Authentisches indisches Essen und freundliches Personal, ich komme gerne wieder !

Es ist wirklich das süßeste leckerste und netteste Familiengeführte Restaurant in ganz Köln. Es ist ein unscheinbares Restaurant, im Eingang erst ein Kiosk und dann einfach ein kleines gemütliches Restaurant. Alle die dort arbeiten sind super nett und respektvoll und total fleißig. Das Essen ist schnell da und schmeckt unfassbar gut ! Es ist das beste südindische Essen in ganz Köln, sie servieren die besten dosas. Bitte unbedingt probieren :) Der Mango Lassi und das Curry ist auch einfach hervorragend. Es gibt nichts auszusetzen. Kleiner Geheimtipp: nur am Wochenende wird Biryani serviert und es lohnt sich. Wir haben dort essen zum mitnehmen bestellt. Das Essen war sehr lecker. Mein Mann, der bereits In Südindien war, fand das Essen sehr authentisch. Mir hat das Essen auch sehr gut geschmeckt und ich fand es geschmackliche auch anders, als in anderen indischen Restaurants. Geschmacklich war es besonders und wir haben direkt 2 Tage später dort essen bestellt.

Unsere Gruppe genießt die Dosa hier immer sehr – sie weckt Erinnerungen und bietet ein hervorragendes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Die Preise sind sehr fair, und die Renovierung des Interieurs im letzten Jahr hat einen deutlichen Unterschied gemacht. Absolut empfehlenswert!

I recently dined at Chennai Chef,South Indian Restaurant , and I must say, it was an absolute delight! The chicken biryani I tried was incredibly authentic and simply delicious. The flavors were rich and aromatic, truly reminiscent of homemade comfort food. The ambiance was welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Chennai Chef has definitely become one of my favorite spots for authentic south Indian cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone craving a taste of South India.

We are a family of 4 and we enjoyed the tasty food. Service was wonderful and good was served hot and they also asked us about the level of spicy we needed. We had the veg meal thali and chicken madras with parota, idli and masala dosa. We will definitely eat there again for our next visit to Cologne.

A very special Indian restaurant that stands out from other Indian restaurants specializing in South India, thanks to its excellent cuisine. Everything is delicious. The service is very attentive. The only minor drawback is the view of the integrated kiosk... but even that can be considered a unique feature :-) However, I'm deducting one star for the ambiance because of this.

Food was absolutely amazing and delicious. I am really looking forward to my next visit to try their other options, especially non veg meals.

Had a wonderful time at Chennai Chef. Felt like eating at home back in Coimbatore (India). The dishes were simplistic and tasty. I went there for idlies and loved them. The filter coffee is to die for. Amazing service and I look forward to going back soon.

I tried this Indian restaurant for the first time, but I also had the food delivered via Volt. The delivery included two main dishes, stacked on top of each other in the bag, and arrived looking exactly as you can see in the picture. Only when I lifted the top one did I see what was underneath (see photo). – Okay, that could have been Volt's fault, and it's all the more annoying since I supported their terrible delivery service and even gave the driver a €2 tip. I also added €2 to the bill via Apple Pay. Considering that one dish arrived almost cold and was barely there, I found the ratio of the side dish rice to the actual meal to be outrageous, especially given the price of each dish. I won't be ordering from them again. And I'll never order from them again.

This restaurant truly impressed me! The flavors are authentic and intense, just like in Chennai – simply unbelievably delicious! But it's not just the food that impresses: The service is outstanding – so friendly and attentive, you feel like you're with good friends. The waitress, in particular, was incredibly sweet and took great care of her guests.

Since I'm not familiar with Indian food, I asked the very friendly lady who was taking our order for recommendations. She immediately started beaming and recommended some delicious dishes. I especially recommend the Masala Dosa. It was great.

Absolutely delicious. The Mysore dosa is yummy and huge. My favourite is the chili chicken and prata. It is a bit spicy for kids but for us it was a total bomb! LOVE IT! When they said its spicy, believe then it is!! Haha. The lady at the kaunter, most probably the boss is also very kind and nice. Owh, not to forget they have nice options of kuhlfi ice cream. Btw the shop has not so many seating so it is very recommended to call and make reservation before going.

I had butter chicken with fresh purata, absolutely delicious! The chicken was tender, the sauce creamy, and the purata was really fresh. A mango lassi was perfect with it. The owners are super friendly and I felt immediately welcome. I definitely recommend it.

Fantastic experience! Authentic can mean a lot. Here, it means that you're experiencing something new, away from the familiar and the conventional, while also being guided through it in a friendly manner. The waitress, who is presumably also the owner, asks for your preferred spiciness, makes recommendations at eye level, and is polite, friendly, and helpful. The food itself is varied, exceptionally delicious, and comes with original side dishes like pancakes that go perfectly with the rest. A very extensive vegetarian and vegan selection. We'll definitely go back. Also, the prices are very fair, even moderate, especially for the drinks, and the atmosphere is truly authentic. Don't be fooled by the bland exterior!

The food was delicious and authentic. So was the vibe. And the service was very nice. The owners themselves were serving and taking good care of the guests. I highly recommend the South Indian dishes like Dosa, Idli, Mendu Wada, etc. Also the Filter Coffee was very authentic ☺️

Absolutely wonderful food! Everything is very delicately seasoned, very spicy, and truly a delight. The potato dosa is a real treat, as are the parotta breads. The various curries are delicious. All curries have a certain spiciness, ranging from mild to strong. If you don't like spicy food at all, this is the wrong place, I'd say. The owner is a very warm and friendly lady who makes you feel truly welcome as a guest.

If you want authentic Indian food in Werne in Cologne, this is the ultimate insider tip! From the street, it looks like a kiosk, but behind it is the actual restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is really fast. There are many different dishes at reasonable prices.

The best dosa in town combined with great service in the most charming, yet only, kiosk restaurant I know. Highly recommended.

I was honestly quite disappointed with my visit here and wouldn’t recommend it. The prices are quite high for what you get - for example, a dosa costs around €13-14, which is what I would expect at a place like Saravana Bhavan, but here the overall experience didn’t match that standard. I went without a booking, and while we were initially given a table, from the moment we sat down it felt rushed and uncomfortable. The staff kept hurrying us to order everything within ten minutes (was there at the restaurant at 9 PM) and made it clear they couldn’t take anything after that. On top of that, the atmosphere was very noisy with dishes being washed and thrown around, and it wasn’t the peaceful setting I would expect when paying restaurant prices. Cleanliness was also an issue - the floors were dirty, the toilets not well maintained, and many items on the menu were unavailable (no biryani, no filter coffee, and some others). While the staff kept apologising and explained they were very busy, I don’t think that solves the problem, because as a customer you still expect a clean and calm space. The only positive was that the idly and dosa were good, but everything else felt more like a below-average restaurant, which doesn’t justify the price. Maybe if you go earlier in the evening (before 8 PM) the experience might be a little better, but for me it was really not worth it!

Very tasty. Small menu, but authentic South Indian. We went there with an Indian friend, who also loved it, or rather, we went there because he heard that the food there actually tasted Indian (which isn't usually the case with Indian restaurants in Cologne. For us Germans, a little curry powder is enough and we think it's Indian 🤣🤣🤣). We ate dosas, it was like being in South India: crispy, delicious chutneys...wonderful.

Finding soulful food miles away from home is a blessing. I am glad I found Chennai Chef, which serves you excellent quality food with perfect taste. I had veg thali and taste of each item (10 plus rice and papad) was cooked to perfection. Highly recommended and a must visit.
