A city as magnificent as Heidelberg deserves a magnificent restaurant. If you're looking for one, you'll find it at Chambao. Elegance, creativity, freshness, friendliness, and a relaxed atmosphere come together here in perfect harmony. The "Heidelberg Menu" is a truly special experience, and should be chosen at least for a special occasion – a culinary journey through the "landscape city" (as the Romantics called it), a visually stunning and inspiring experience.

An unusual concept with some truly outstanding dishes! The atmosphere is fantastic, the wine list is diverse with a wide selection, and the food is exceptional. Admittedly, it's not something you'd do every day; there are other places for that. But if you're looking for something truly special, this is the place to go. Some of the dishes are Michelin-star quality!

A beautiful location directly on the Neckar River – elegantly decorated in white, stylish, and pleasantly quiet. The service is attentive but pleasantly unobtrusive. We chose the set menu: excellently presented and delicious. A special treat: the chef or bartender personally visits. Ideal for couples, but also for groups of up to eight people. A great addition to Heidelberg's culinary scene – we'll definitely be back!

For me, the concept of "tapas" and sharing food isn't appealing. If there had been a menu online, I would have gone too. However, if you like "modern cuisine" with horseradish foam, onse eggs, fermented food, black tea mousse, etc., you might find what you're looking for. For me, though, it wasn't worth the price, and I didn't enjoy most of it. We were also a bit bothered by the passing traffic between the restaurant and the outdoor area, as well as the taxi stand (including the radio and the vacuuming of the vehicles), which was separated from the outdoor area only by a few flower pots.

Honestly, I'm not sure where to begin... First, the service: The waiter who took our order unfortunately overlooked me several times. For example, he gave the plate to my boyfriend first – even though it's customary to serve the woman's plate first. He also only asked my boyfriend for our drinks until he pointed it out. Furthermore, a tip was automatically added at the end without us asking – I didn't think that was right. I would like to mention the waitress, who was very friendly and respectful. We were also dissatisfied with the seating: Although we had a reservation and the restaurant was almost empty, we were given a table in an unsuitable spot. When we asked for a table inside, we were refused, and we were left with two other, equally poor, seats to choose from. The food: Unfortunately, we weren't impressed at all. The combinations seemed unbalanced, almost as if the ingredients had been randomly put together. The flavor was completely lacking in flavor. The only thing that was really nice was the presentation – but the taste was unfortunately disappointing. Conclusion: Overall, a negative experience. You'll certainly never forget this meal and this visit – but unfortunately, not for the right reasons.

Overall, unfortunately, this isn't a restaurant I can recommend without hesitation. Although the food was very good in terms of taste and quality (but not outstanding), the reasons for this are: 1) 6 small tapas plates for €160 are simply unreasonable. The price/performance ratio is completely out of line. 2) The service – in a restaurant that prides itself on offering fine dining, not being asked once by the staff over a period of approximately 2.5 hours if you'd like anything else is truly poor. Much cheaper restaurants can do much better.

The food was delicious; José Luis and the kitchen staff do a truly outstanding job, and Florian's service was also top-notch! We will always eat there on our future visits to Heidelberg. 100% recommended.

We went to dinner at Cambao in Heidelberg with six people on Friday, July 4th, and had a wonderful and enjoyable evening. Florian, the "Chef de Service," and his friendly colleagues gave us a very warm welcome and explained what to expect that evening in a professional and friendly manner. Our table was located directly in front of the stunning Art Nouveau facade in the shady outdoor area. The interior, with its wonderful ambiance, is also very inviting. We ordered three "Share 6 Plates" (price €79.00 - although the website still lists it as €73.40). Each included six appetizers, six intermediate courses, and six main courses. What came out of the kitchen and was served was absolutely fantastic. Florian's wine recommendation, a 1.5-liter bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from Bühler for €79.00 per bottle, also proved to be absolutely perfect and reasonably priced. We had three bottles of it that evening, which stretched from 6:00 PM (according to the bill) until 10:00 PM (accompanied, of course, by eight bottles of Purezza Med. 0.75 l for €5.90 each. Dessert was charged extra. All in all, we agreed that this wouldn't be a one-time visit.

Unfortunately, it wasn't a good experience. The price/performance ratio is completely out of whack. We ordered six dishes to share. We ate two of them, finished one because we were hungry, and left three. Nobody in the service seemed particularly interested. After the first complaint, they swapped one course, which was too cold and simply not good. €285.00 for two people without tip, with mediocre wines. Risk of repeating = 0%.

The restaurant boasts a beautiful ambiance, especially on the terrace in summer, and an open kitchen that offers a real insight into what's going on. The chef is very attentive, the staff is excellently trained, and the presentation of the dishes is of the highest quality – from the fancy tableware to the delicate presentation, the overall impression is perfect. The dishes themselves are creative and bold – mustard ice cream or a minimalist carrot with capers show that modern cuisine is taken seriously here. However, the pricing is more geared to the craftsmanship and presentation than to the ingredients themselves. A single, interestingly fried carrot with sauce, despite all its finesse, seems difficult to justify in this price range. I really struggle with the stars. But the bottom line is that some of the dishes didn't appeal to me in terms of taste and texture. The portions are very small, so even after four courses, there's still room for dessert. The drinks menu is high-quality, but expensive. The restrooms are clean, but not up to the upscale standard of the rest of the restaurant. Conclusion: For a special evening, the restaurant is an interesting choice with exceptional ideas. However, those looking for more than just an experience, but also substantial food, might be skeptical about the value for money.

There's only one word for this restaurant: FASCINATING EVERYTHING is just right here! The food, the service, the quality, and the wine 🍷. I've never experienced anything like it. We enjoyed the 6-course sharing menu. Exceptional delights and flavors every time. Perfectly matched. Our highlights were: fennel salad, monkfish, beef tartare, asparagus with asparagus ice cream,... The price isn't cheap, of course, but it's absolutely justified. The wine (wine tour) also featured only (!) high-quality wines from VDP wineries. A visit to Chambao is highly recommended. The pictures show everything else. A big thank you goes to Florian and the chef. You did a perfect job!!!

A friend recommended this place, so we reserved a table for three. We were the only guests when we arrived, making the atmosphere very pleasant, almost like we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. I imagine it’s busier on weekends. The food was excellent, especially the starters. We tried nine different dishes, each one a creative masterpiece with great plating, taste, and portion sizes. The service was okay, but the wine took 20 minutes to arrive, which was disappointing given we were the only guests. Overall, if you’re looking for a fine dining experience in Heidelberg, this place is recommended.

We ate à la carte yesterday, and it was absolutely delicious. It was a true taste experience. The ambiance is incredibly beautiful and tranquil. I highly recommend it.

“Welcome to the family”? Certainly not! We had reserved a table and wanted to have a nice gourmet evening. But nothing came of it, because after 25 minutes of sitting around we still weren't even asked for an aperitif or drinks (let alone looked at in any other way), we left without having achieved anything. Other guests who arrived significantly later than us were served immediately. And still other, obvious regulars, were basically courted by the bosses who were also present. Otherwise we weren't very sad because the "menu" - contrary to the advertising - is anything but Spanish. We live partly in Spain and our friends there would be surprised at what is sold as “typical” here. The food also seems completely overpriced (see photo), wine prices are ridiculous (10.50 for a glass of 0.2). Since we can't say anything about the cuisine itself, a few words about the ambience: Very stuffy air. Very loud. Waiters run around aimlessly (the Spanish says "pollos sin cabeza"). All in all, an absolute failure.

Celebrated my birthday with friends, everyone was thrilled by the variety of flavors, the ambience, etc. We will come back!

WOW! We had a wonderful evening today at Chambao in Heidelberg. From a selection of 11 dishes, you can choose 6 or 8 different ones, which are then served in 3 rounds like tapas in the middle of the table. The selection was fantastic! Each of the 3 courses was accompanied by a wine, about which the sommelier provided a few additional details. Every wine chosen paired perfectly with the dishes! For starters, we had beef tartare, tuna kebab, and ceviche with celery and mushrooms. This was followed by shabu shabu, octopus, and tagliolini. For the main course, we had venison loin, teriyaki duck breast, and cauliflower. Each of these dishes was a poem, with the tuna kebab, tartare, and duck breast being particularly noteworthy. We then opted for dessert. A little tip for all drivers: non-alcoholic drinks are also available upon request. The Frangelico Sour is highly recommended – never seen or heard of it before, but it tastes incredibly delicious and should be spread around! All in all, a great evening! The only thing that could have been a bit more proactive was the service. At times, we still had the dishes from the previous course on the table when the next course was delivered, although it seemed very busy today. We'd love to come back and thank you for the great evening! ❤️

Went to Chambao for the second time, this time with friends, and it was another completely successful evening. Everyone had the 8 courses to share, great products, great preparation, just something different. But the fact that this great food is also accompanied by first-class service makes this restaurant simply a 10/10. Attentive, totally relaxed in your dealings, you feel welcome as if you had been a regular guest for years. There are also great wines. We'll definitely be back 🤩 thanks for the great evening 🥂

A perfect new start – an experience on opening day! March 20, 2025 We had the great pleasure of being there on opening day after six weeks of renovation - and what an impressive new start! The Chambao shines in new splendor and combines a stylish ambience with a welcoming atmosphere. The attention to detail can be felt in every corner, from the tasteful furnishings to the attentive service. We were completely impressed by the kitchen! Every dish was a little work of art – not just visually, but also in terms of taste. All dishes impressed us with their sophistication and freshness. The exquisite wine selection was also excellent and perfectly matched to the food. Despite it being an opening night, the service was excellent: friendly, professional and with genuine enthusiasm for the guests. You can tell that a team with passion is at work here. A successful new start that leaves nothing to be desired - we are already looking forward to the next visit! Unreserved recommendation!

Our Valentine's Day dinner at Chambao Heidelberg was a completely successful experience. We had reserved the table weeks before via the website, and when we arrived at 7:30 p.m. the restaurant was full - especially with couples wanting to enjoy this special evening. The atmosphere was pleasant and cozy, and you immediately felt the warm hospitality that is so important at Chambao. The restaurant's concept invites you to share different dishes and be surprised by Mediterranean-inspired crossover creations. We chose six plates, and each individual dish was excitingly composed and prepared with great attention to detail. We were particularly impressed by the two tartare variants - both the Spicy Tuna Tartare with celery, passion fruit, white chocolate and rice crisp and the Mexican Style Beef Tartare with cucumber, chili, pico de gallo and totopos. Both tasted great and were definitely our favorites. The parsley root soup with white nougat and veal brisket also surprised us with its fine balance of creaminess and spice. The scallop with chorizo, Granny Smith and rosemary was perfectly cooked and tasted great. The pike perch with champagne beurre blanc, black pudding and pointed cabbage turned out to be an unusual but actually harmonious combination. The only small point of criticism was the corn chicken breast with peanut, banana, chili and cucumber, which could have been a little juicier for our taste. Finally, we decided on two desserts: the Basque cheesecake with tonka bean ice cream, which was wonderfully creamy and aromatic, and the Tölzer cheese plate with fig mustard and fruit bread - a perfect combination of sweet and savory. Particularly positive is the incredibly friendly and professional team that accompanied the evening perfectly. Our table was right next to the cloakroom, which wasn't ideal because guests and employees always had to go back to their coats. But the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff more than made up for it, and as a small compensation we received a glass of champagne on the house. At the end we were even served two glasses of wine for dessert - a wonderful gesture that rounded off the evening perfectly. The wine recommendations for the dishes were great – delicious, suitable and well thought out. Particularly pleasant: The glasses were poured generously, so that in the end I was only able to taste one additional white wine and one red wine. Every sip was a pleasure. There are many restaurants in Heidelberg that are geared towards tourists. However, we didn't have that feeling here, we felt like we were in good hands right from the start and simply ate delicious food. The atmosphere was relaxed and we had a thoroughly enjoyable and enjoyable evening. Many dishes were vegetarian upon request, and allergies and individual requests were catered for very well. The champagne prices, especially the Laurent-Perrier at 85 euros per bottle, were also absolutely fair. For us, Chambao is one of the best restaurants in Heidelberg. This isn't just about the food, it's about a culinary experience that connects people - exactly as the team describes on the website. You can feel the passion of the kitchen, the attention to detail and the warmth of the entire team. We will definitely come back and say thank you.

Das Konzept war für uns ein ganz neues Esserlebnis. Meine Frau war zunächst skeptisch, war aber schließlich auch komplett überzeugt. Toll fanden wir auch, dass es ein großes Angebot an alkoholfreien Drinks gibt. Dann müssen die Fahrer nicht immer nur Wasser trinken. Wir empfehlen das Chambao unseren Freunden und Kollegen weiter und kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

This has never happened to us in a restaurant between simple and star-rated gastronomy. Waited over 90 minutes between the starter and the middle course, despite a note to the service. The bread we ordered was not delivered either. Drinks that were drunk were not asked whether they should be renewed. The starter was very tasty, but what happened afterwards is not worthy of a restaurant of this category. The service is disinterested, uncaring, inattentive and not guest-oriented. We are after this long. Waiting time got up and left. We paid the horrified-looking waiter in cash for the drinks and food we consumed, probably shortly before the second course was supposed to arrive.

This place canceled our reservation twice, once on our anniversary and once after we rescheduled after our anniversary cancellation. Never got the chance to try it and now I never will. Don't waste your time, a terrible customer experience.

Food was solid but not exceptional. One of the courses was a bit dry (corn-fed chicken breast with stuffing), while another unfortunately had overcooked rice as a side dish. The dessert that was shared was a small thawed piece of raspberry cake… For the expensive price of the courses, you can expect a little more. The starters and intermediate courses were good. The ambience is nice.

The flavors are fantastic and we are always surprised by the explosion of flavors that each dish offers. Particularly worth mentioning is the creativity and care with which each dish is prepared. The presentation of the dishes is just as impressive as the taste. It is clear that a lot of attention to detail has been worked here. Despite significant staff shortages, where even the chef had to help serve, we noticed little of this. The service was faultless and very attentive. It was also a special joy to personally talk to the chef at the table and learn about the philosophy and inspiration behind the dishes. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy and inviting, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. We are already looking forward to our next visit and can highly recommend Chambao Heidelberg to anyone looking for an exceptional culinary experience.

Es war auch eine besondere Freude, mit dem Chef persönlich am Tisch zu plaudern und mehr über die Philosophie und die Inspiration hinter den Gerichten zu erfahren. Das Ambiente des Restaurants ist gemütlich und einladend, was die gesamte Erfahrung noch angenehmer macht. We were there today with our two children and can only warmly recommend the restaurant. Very attentive and warm service paired with fantastic cuisine and unusual creations that leave you wanting more. If they give you a reservation for 21:45, don't bother showing up. They close the kitchen at 21:30 but don't tell you until you show up for your dinner, and tell you there won't be any food for you.

Chambao was the highlight of my stay in Heidelberg. I had to dust off my prior review practice of distinguished restaurants because it was this good to me and my guests. We tried just about every dish and nothing disappointed in the least. The flavors and textures and combinations that were presented before us were fantastic. The chef came out during the second course and was happy to practice his English describing his creations. It is truly memorable, and I look forward to my return trip just to dine here again. We visited other Michelin level restaurants, but I believe this one takes the prize in recent memory.

Absolute taste explosion! It was very delicious. The tuna tartare is my favorite. Always worth a visit, especially with the constantly changing menu. For dessert there was ginger ice cream with panko breading. Kudos to the chef's creativity.

In the six-course menu for two people, you share the selected dishes together. All six dishes were very tasty and each one had a special component (peach sake ice cream, crayfish tartare, brioch as a burger bun). The service was very friendly, answered all our questions and recommended a great wine. There was a piano player who played live the whole time.

Wenn man Lust auf sehr gutes und Aussergewöhnliches Essen hat, ist man im Chambao sehr gut aufgehoben. Beim Ambiente hatte ich, durch die Bilder mehr erwartet und gerade beim Tisch war ich doch etwas enttäuscht. Für mich war dieser aus meiner Sicht für 4 Personen auch zu eng ausgelegt.

We went here a while ago with friends to celebrate a birthday. The evening was a unique experience. The food was incredibly fine and delicious; I tried things that I would never have eaten or combined with each other before. The wines were excellent, the atmosphere was atmospheric and the service was very friendly and accommodating. You can tell that the chef puts a lot of skill and passion into his work. We will come back here for the next great event! PS: we had a vegan with us and she also put together a sophisticated menu.

We had such a lovely meal here. I have food allergies and sensitivities, so I asked my server for some guidance. The chef himself came out to speak with me and then brought me out a menu he had personally marked up with how dishes could be adjusted to accommodate my needs. That level of flexibility and attention is not something you find frequently in Germany! Every dish was beautifully presented, perfectly prepared, and delicious.

What a great experience. The food and staff were amazing. Everyone at the restaurant is so humble for how awesome their food is. Keep this one a hidden gem but definitely go if you have the opportunity.

Wir waren heute im Chambao und haben uns zu zweit das 8-Gang-Menü geteilt. Es war wirklich ein sehr schöner Abend, der Service war außerordentlich freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen war sehr, sehr lecker und handwerklich sowie optisch sehr ansprechend. Das Konzept, sich die Gänge zu teilen, ist wirklich praktisch, da man auf diese Weise alles probieren kann und garantiert satt wird. Preis-Leistung sind hier absolut passend und wir können das Chambao ausnahmslos weiterempfehlen! Vielen Dank für den schönen Abend und (mit Sicherheit) bis bald!

Wir hatten eine wundervollen Abend. Das Essen und die Weinempfehlung dazu waren sehr gut, Der Service konnte kaum besser sein. Und die Atmosphäre war Dank der musikalischen Untermalung am Klavier perfekt. Einzig die Tische stehen etwas nahe beieinander.

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt (gehen nicht so oft schicker Essen) und das Essen war sehr lecker. Es hatte seinen Charme gemeinsam Essen auszusuchen und dann zu teilen. So kann man viel leckeres Essen. Die Ente war unser Highlight. Hund war kein Problem.

This was the BEST meal we had in all of Germany while traveling for vacation. Honestly, I think it was the best meal I’ve ever had in my life. The beef and tuna tartare were amongst my favorites - I savored every single bite. All of the other dishes were so delicious, creatice, interesting, and fun. As picky eaters from NYC, we have very high standards for dining. This place blew us away with their creative pairing of flavors, presentation, and hospitality. Chambao beats the Michelins restaurants we went to in Germany. I can’t wait to come back for more.
