Casita Mexicana Belgisches Viertel in Köln

Summary: unsuitable for vegans and overpriced. I had the Casita Mix plate (taco, quesadilla, burrito) in vegan - by the way, almost the only vegan option. When I ordered I was asked if I wanted cheese, which I said no and repeated that it should please be vegan. The question about whether meat was ok almost caused me to leave. The food came relatively quickly. You get 2 (mini) tacos, 1 burrito and 1 quesadilla. The fillings: 2x a few vegetable snippets (with coriander sauce) on the tacos, 1x kidney bean puree which had a meaty aftertaste (but at this point I was probably biased by the question when ordering). The last filling was incredibly poorly seasoned nopal, which to me simply tasted like pickles with a bit of lettuce. The whole thing for >20€. I was neither full nor did I enjoy any of these fillings - the tacos were ok but unfortunately with coriander sauce (tastes vary here). There was a little extra sauce that I couldn't identify because it didn't actually taste like anything (maybe water with a hint of onion). The drinks were good and also of a large selection. My partner liked it mediocre - but the prices were hefty here too. Therefore 2 stars even though my experience was worthy of a maximum of one star. Without exception, the staff also speaks Spanish, for whom that is relevant (I cannot judge whether all the employees come from Mexico or Latin America in general) Service but rather bad: The questions about the vegan order & we wanted to ask for a second napkin because there was only one at the table - we ended up halving it because we couldn't get anyone to the table. Side note: If you don't like coriander, you should keep your distance - I ordered without coriander (there was none on top as a topping) but apparently there is no (vegan) sauce without coriander, which is why my food ultimately had a slightly soapy taste: )

The food tasted great, the drinks too and the service was very nice, even though it was pretty busy. This was my second visit and certainly won't be the last.

We always had fond memories of the restaurant and enjoyed eating there. However, a few months have passed since our last visit. The quality has decreased significantly since then. The food was below average and carelessly prepared. We felt more like we were in a fast food restaurant.

We went to a restaurant for lunch, and it was really good. The atmosphere was pretty nice and chill. The music was fun but not annoying. The waiting time was pretty short and worth it because the food was really good. And as a cherry on top: homemade brownie. Everyone (including small kids) enjoyed it a lot, definitely worth visiting.

It’s hard to find good Mexican food outside North America, but this place does satiate my cravings. Not only with food, but the atmosphere. It has a very warm and nostalgic environment. I like to order a mix of tacos and share with a big group. Had ‘El Machete’ cocktail and it was genuinely one of the best cocktails I’ve had in months. It had a slushie ball in the center of the drink that was delicious. The second time I ordered the drink, there was no slushie ball and it wasn’t nearly as good, a bit unfortunate. Definitely recommend to any Americans missing a local Mexican place, I wouldn’t say it’s as good as what we have back home, but still hits the spot. Their salsas are especially good! I recommend the appetizer ‘Trio’.

The food is really tasty, but the waiting time is quite annoying. I ordered something to pick up and it should arrive in 15 minutes. Once I got there I had to wait another 30 minutes!!

I really enjoy eating Mexican here. The waitresses are very nice and there are delicious tacos, quesadilas and great sauces. For eating I can recommend the casita plate, there's a lot on it and you'll be full. For the other dishes, I would still recommend a starter. There is also Corona on tap. Also suitable for larger groups.

It's a real shame that you only get Tex-Mex in Cologne. Unfortunately, this has little to do with authentic Mexican food.

Wir waren an einem Sonntagabend dort und mussten mehr als eine Dreiviertelstunde auf unsere Getränke warten. Bis das Essen kam, dauerte es mehr als eine Stunde. Die Musik war ohrenbetäubend laut und das Personal heillose überfordert. Von den vier Nachtischen auf der Karte gab es nur einen… insgesamt eine recht enttäuschende Performance, auch wenn das Essen okay war.

Leckeres auch essen, was der richtigen mexikanischen Küche auch sehr nah kommt. Klar gibt es Anpassungen, aber wir sind ja auch nicht in Mexiko... Das Serviceteam war super nett und die Atmosphäre im Restaurant war auch entspannt (evt etwas zu Laut?), aber hey authentisch mexikanisch ;) Preislich schon etwas ambitioniert (z.B. kleine Portion Nachos mit Dip 9,50€ oder 2 Quesadillas für 16,90€ + Aufpreis je Füllung)

I’m a mexican student here in Germany and I was looking for a place to eat mexican food, I found this place and it was amazing, also Miguel was my waiter and he spoke to me in spanish which made me feel at home, plus his service was amazing. I would really recommend this place.

Lovely place in regards to it's atmosphere. In general a bit overpriced related to portion size. Service a bit slow but friendly. Restaurant is located at a street corner so traffic is there but beautiful lights and nice atmosphere overall.

I’ve eaten here before. Good atmosphere, nice drinks, service is okay. Food is usually really tasty, but yesterday I ordered over UberEats and there was a piece glass in my burrito bowl. I was finishing the food today and I found it when I was almost done with the blow and bit on something really hard. Now my mouth hurts… huge piece of glass…

There were two of us and we ordered the Nachos Frijoles Refritos as a starter. The main courses were Burrito a la Diabla from Especiales and 2 quesadillas, one each with the fillings nopales and alambra. We drank the two homemade classics: Agua de Jamaica and Limonada. We particularly found the lemonada very tasty, as it offered a refreshing change from the usual sweet lemonade. The waitress was friendly and accommodating. We didn't have to wait long for our food, but there was hardly anything going on. The furnishings and the music create a pleasant atmosphere. The only thing that bothered me a little personally is the location, as there is a lot of traffic there. However, that is complaining at a high level. All in all, we are very satisfied with our visit and would be happy to come back. For me personally it is the best Mexican restaurant I have been to so far!

Are you into Mexican food and vibe, then this is the place to go. Awesome food, and delicious drinks and cocktails. Nice staff. Ordered on Volt, the beef burrito tasted well but was very small for its price, and the veggie burrito bowl was incredibly overpriced as well.

¿Hola que tal? This was my second visit to the casita. And I have to say, almost a full year later, some points have improved, but a few have also significantly worsened. The Casita Mexicana has become significantly more expensive. A burrito and 3 drinks total around €30. Unfortunately, only one of the service staff was fully motivated, the other two were unfortunately only "there too", which unfortunately led to a bit of confusion when ordering at our table. But everyone here is nice and this problem was quickly resolved. The mixed Nacho Platter Especial with Pibil was really good (be sure to try it spicy)! Add an ice-cold beer, lemonade or margherita and you'll get a real Caribbean vibe on these hot August evenings. Unfortunately, the burritos are still pretty boring and American. The spicy spices and the dense packing due to the wafer-thin dough are missing here. Unfortunately, what is not possible is paying by card. Here too, American machines have already arrived and suggest tipping straight away. I'm happy to pay something as a thank you for the evening, but unfortunately being told like that is very cheeky and I don't support it. Please change that, otherwise this will be my last visit with you.

Very tasty dishes that you can put together yourself (base + filling). We had, among other things, the Nachos Tres Quesos appetizer (great for sharing), the burrito with shrimp filling, vegetarian quesadillas, tacos with beef filling and a salad. Everything very tasty! The ambience was cozy, both inside and outside. The service was super friendly and could also speak Spanish. The prices are quite high, but it was worth it.

You can eat quite well here, but sometimes it tastes a bit bland. Located right on a street. We were outside at a table that was very close together.

Ordered a vegetarian burrito for 12.90 euros and got 300g of “snack” with a little pepper, a little other vegetables, a little beans, a little cheese and a lot of iceberg lettuce without sauce. I would have to eat 2 more of them to get full. It was similar with the quesadillas last time. So never order from there again. A real shame.

Had dinner there for the first time yesterday. You choose your basics (tacos, quesadillas or burritos and can then “fill” them with delicious meat or vegetarian fillings. Many specials or mixed plates. Drinks were very tasty and some freshly squeezed, the dessert also tasted very good. The The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was appealing. All in all, there was nothing to complain about

Very good food, extremely friendly (especially the guy who serviced us) and calm staff. Too bad they don't have an off switch for the traffic next to their restaurant though. Can't find anymore cons though, everything is good.

In itself it is a cozy restaurant with really delicious food! I've been here several times and I've enjoyed every dish so far. But: I don't know whether it's part of the concept that the staff here sometimes speak to you in Spanish until you make it clear that you don't want that (I can even speak Spanish, but why should I?). It's not a bad thing and I smile at something like that with a wink, but the fact that sometimes you don't get served for a really long time, the waitresses and waiters chat together at the counter for minutes and then just keep you waiting for a long time, that's just not acceptable. The food has always come quickly, but it is actually “annoying” when you watch the waiters chatting endlessly. I'd still like to come back because it tastes good. If you could just teach the waitresses and waiters that they aren't there for fun but for work, it would be perfect.

Very tasty food! I love the tacos the most <3 However, it wouldn't be bad if one more waitress was hired. It was very busy and we had to wait a bit long to place orders or for them to be served. Some of the employees were really rotating.

First up: they seated us inside while it was hot outside just because we didn’t look “fancy” like the others…. Terrible service. They legitimately ignored us 40 min. In those 40 min, we waited and no “hello” or taking orders for even drinks… The worst part was, we watched that those rude girls talked and gossiped over customers in spanish. They were making fun of them. No go !!

Margaritas were just okay (really not that good for the price) but the service was totally unfriendly. Then it took them 40 minutes to give us the drinks, so that they kicked us out 10 minutes later without telling us that they were closing. Simply impossible, never again and I simply wouldn't recommend it.

I ordered a burrito and a bowl with additional tortilla chips via the website and then picked it up. It was very tasty and I can recommend it. The rest of the bowl could easily be eaten the next day and wasn't too bad. Will definitely come back.

Online reservation worked perfectly, starters, main courses and desserts were very tasty. The service worked quickly. All in all a recommendation.

Overall, the food is okay, but it's noticeably deteriorated compared to last year. The burrito is now served carelessly on a round plate, without any side dishes, for a whopping €13. There is neither rice nor adequate filling, so you are still hungry after eating. Things used to be different. I would rather pay €2 more to get a decent meal. The taste of the food is okay, but for just under €13 and the small amount you can go to a snack bar around the corner and at least get full there.

Now my favorite - Mexican. Super tasty, authentic, chic and top service. Recommend! 👍🏼

The portions are way too small for the price!!!! A falafel bag at the Lebanese restaurant for 3 euros is larger than the burrito that is offered here for 10 euros. The vegetarian burrito has no special taste and is poorly seasoned.

The food was nothing special, the tortillas were old and cold... the nopal is a little bitter. We expected much more margaritas with fruit juice but that was not the case. They were artificial juices. (Mango and strawberry) The friendly service.

Authentic corn tortilla like in Mexico.

Unfortunately I can't give a good rating. We were there with 5 girls. My friends liked it, but unfortunately I didn't like it at all. Since I have been to Mexico many times and know the cuisine well, I cannot say that the food was authentic and fresh. It seemed to me that the ingredients had been prepared hours in advance and were simply slapped into the tortillas later as if on an assembly line. How dare I make this judgment because the tomato-onion mixture tasted very stale. In addition, many of the dishes were full of tomato and onion salad. The guacamole was good, but expensive at almost €7. The nachos were OK. The waitresses were very friendly and surprisingly everyone could speak Spanish, mega! Unfortunately I wasn't impressed by the food because of the visit. Hey, but luckily there's no arguing about taste.

Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio is simply not right. It was tasty, but unfortunately not much for the price. The waiters seemed overwhelmed, which could be because we were served by 3 different people that evening. Questions were accepted, but unfortunately never answered because the waiter I asked never came back. A pity !

I was only visiting Cologne, but I lived in Cologne for a while years ago and had heard a lot about the restaurant before. We each ordered two different types of tacos so that we could end up trying four of them. The one with prawns, the one with the spicy chicken, the Al Pastor and the Pibil. My favorite was the Tacos Al Pastor. I was in Mexico years ago and drove around the country alone for a few weeks. There are rarely such good tacos in Germany. The drinks were also delicious, but I liked the selection of Mexican beers best. Even if it was a bit of a shame to waste a good Pacifico on this, it had to serve as a Chelada. I was excited!

A bit noisy, not surprising, but good food, so all is well.

I was there with a friend at lunchtime and also had the lunch menu. It was really tasty and enough, but completely carelessly prepared. Unfortunately, there was also renovation going on behind the counter and we were almost the only guests. You felt a little out of place. We couldn't enjoy the real Mexican atmosphere, but it's probably a little more harmonious and nicer towards the evening with more guests.

The restaurant seems to have a mouse problem. Since the children's plate was not very descriptive, at least the mouse was very active under the table for children's entertainment. (But seems familiar as there were mouse traps under the bench) Food was good, service was nice and quick.

Es ist wirklich schwer, ein sehr gutes mexikanisches Restaurant in Deutschland zu finden. Casita Mexicana ist super, ich bin total begeistert! Tacos wie in Mexiko, frisch und superlecker. Dazu eine sehr nette und sehr aufmerksame Bedienung, top!!

Ordered through Wolt, so I can't say anything about the service or ambience. The order took about an hour, but that's legitimate on a Sunday evening. We ordered two burritos with different fillings and the chips with three different dips. The burritos were absolutely puny for their price, there were maybe three beans in them and you didn't really notice any of the cheese. Only iceberg lettuce and the filling we ordered were sufficient. In terms of taste, the burritos were okay, but due to their size, or rather small size, they weren't even worth nearly €12+. The chips were quite good, but the dips were also rather disappointing because they were extremely thin. No idea what the store is like, but would definitely advise against ordering there.

The restaurant is very nice, the staff is friendly, the food is delicious, but it takes a long time to bring the food: I have been several times and I have always had to wait at least an hour.

Food was delicious. However, you simply have to pay €0.50 extra for “WITHOUT cheese”. Which makes absolutely no sense because you simply get less product.

Update 3/19/24: Thanks for the reply. The salad was out of the bag. Do you import products from Mexico? How illogical and unsustainable is that?! Rethink your concept from appearance to reality. Then maybe I'll come. again. Service was quick and tried to be friendly. Food just didn't convince me. I don't see value for money. For me, eating Mexican also means sauces and add-ons on the plate, such as a corn on the cob, etc. The taste of the burrito was okay. But no blast for being served alone. The plus point is Corona on tap. The loud stand mixer behind the bar is quite unpleasant.

Good food, tried the quesadillas and they satisfied us. The service was a little slow (but it was Saturday evening and the place was very busy), but once ordered everything arrived immediately.

Very nice shop, very good advice and very good food. Thank you for being so patient and answering our questions comprehensively. Be sure to try the sangria or the homemade lemonade. Note, not included in the rating: Gluten-free, as some lists that restaurants have, is not technically possible here. Only without gluten-containing ingredients. Unfortunately, contamination cannot be avoided and tested. The meals are not suitable for celiac disease. We're so sorry about that.

Mega Mexican. Top food and great prices. Great value for money

Very good quality and quite tasty. However, we waited quite a long time, perhaps that is due to the fresh preparation. I find the rooms quite narrow and loud. But I'll be back in the summer, then you can sit outside♡

Reservations are for 2 hours only, even if you are consuming they will force you out. Super slow service, took almost an hour and a half to get our food delivered and the drinks took at least 30 minutes per order (beer plus tequila shots). We were there on Saturday, it seemed there was enough staff, and it was not even entirely full.

For the first time in my life I couldn't eat the dish. Everything was simply inedible. In addition, you could at least heat a little when the outside temperature is 8 degrees. We told the staff that we didn't like it. That was laughed away

I've been to Casita Mexicana several times in both restaurants in Düsseldorf and I've never been as disappointed as I was today in this restaurant in Cologne. The service was a disaster! With the words “Everything is reserved” and “Nothing will be available” when we thought we would be happy to wait, it was already clear: Guests are not always welcome here. We waited 1 1/3 HOURS for our food. Guests who arrived after us received their food before us. And when our food came it was even wrong. In a world in which we are becoming more and more multicultural and Cologne is such a colorful city, you would think that if you explicitly didn't order pork, you wouldn't get any. But our food was made wrong and we even waited almost 2 hours for nothing. Well, during the two hours you could also see how stressed and overwhelmed the service staff were. You felt really ignored and had to run after you for your order. I have never experienced such incompetence in a restaurant. Casita mexicana disappointed!

We felt very comfortable, a rustic Mexican in the Belgian quarter. Be sure to reserve seats. Food is very good. And I really liked it. We'll definitely be back!
