Cafe Steffens in Goslar

Sorry, that was really bad. It would have been forgivable if the Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) had been a weekly special. According to the review, it had been on the menu for four months already. The Käsespätzle were 50-cent pasta with what appeared to be one or two slices of Gouda cheese fried on the bottom and fried onions on top. We paid €12 for that. Absolutely tasteless. Probably the worst meal I've had on vacation in the last ten years.

I can't even give this "restaurant," if you can even call it that, one star. We ate there a week ago with six people, including two minors. We wanted, among other things, a very simple Hamburg schnitzel. We were told that this wasn't possible because they didn't have any eggs. So we asked how the schnitzels were breaded... Then salads were served with the meat dishes. One salad was completely spilled all over my partner's trousers, and the dressing spread under the table and down the table legs. No one apologized, brought a cloth, or even cleaned the table. Only after asking were we allowed to sit at another table, but then we were told to return to our original table after it had been more than superficially cleaned. When we refused and pointed out that there had been no apology for the spilled salad, nor a cloth, the waiter verbally attacked us. When the owner finally arrived, she didn't even listen to the whole incident, sent the waiter, who was just then bringing our first order of food, back to the kitchen, and told us that "the food will take a very long time today." We got dressed and tried to leave, but were then almost physically assaulted by the waiter who had caused the mess. Finally, the owner said to us, "That you can clearly hear where we came from." We've never experienced anything like this in our entire lives. This restaurant might be the last place in Hahnenklee where you can get a decent meal... We'd rather starve than ever set foot in there again!

Delicious food, diverse menu, very friendly staff and owners.

We've eaten at Steffens for dinner several times and have always been satisfied. For New Year's Eve, we were lucky and managed to reserve a table the day before. We had to choose a dish in advance, which didn't bother us at all. It did take quite a while for our food to arrive, but the restaurant was packed. The service could have been a bit more attentive with the drinks (it was busy and certainly stressful), but the friendliness of all the staff more than made up for it. Our meal was delicious (venison roast and schnitzel), and the dessert was fantastic (chocolate soufflé). The only downside to the meal was the red cabbage, which had a rather odd texture. We'll definitely be back. :-) Unfortunately, I can't comment on the hotel or the rooms.

Not recommended. We stopped there for dinner on a Saturday afternoon, too far away to wait. We waited for a server, but no one came. So we found a table and waited. We were ignored for a full 30 minutes; even guests who arrived after us were served before us. After we were finally acknowledged, the only question asked was whether we wanted to order... As if we were sitting there for fun?! Afterward, we received our drinks fairly quickly. On top of that, a "Reserved" sign and cutlery for the next guests were placed on the table without a word, even though we were still waiting for our own food. Simply rude and unwelcoming! The food was only lukewarm and, at best, average in taste. If we hadn't gone to the counter to pay, we could have waited there for ages. We were thoroughly disappointed by such a waste of time and will certainly not be returning.

We came in for a coffee and were served a coffee with spoiled milk. After we mentioned this to the waiter she even didn’t say sorry. Food also wasn’t really tasty, but prices are high. Overall atmosphere wasn’t great and it smelled as an old oil.

A hectic restaurant with rather average quality. The Cordon Bleu was probably frozen, at least it tasted like it. My wife's venison meatballs were tasteless and dry. That was it for us.

A super friendly team, very attentive. The food is absolutely delicious. The breakfast is fantastic, always fresh, and they make sure everything is always replenished. A wonderful, friendly atmosphere in this house; you feel very comfortable there. Highly recommended, we will definitely be back. Thank you so much for everything, dear Steffens team!

The salad was brown and wilted, the cucumber shriveled, and the canned corn was already brown. At that point, I'd already lost my appetite for the main course. But I wanted to give them a chance. The main course took a quarter of an hour from ordering to being served. Good food doesn't come that fast. The Jägerschnitzel was unseasoned, with canned mushrooms and frozen croquettes. I actually wanted dumplings, but the dumpling dough wasn't available. So you either have to order the dumplings from the menu or make them yourself. Absolutely not recommended!!!

The single room was okay, but the shower needed improvement. The breakfasts for guests were very good. Very good and large cream puffs. Unfortunately, the soup was just water... but other than that, the food in the restaurant was good. The service was very friendly.

I spontaneously stopped by for dinner. The burger was very good. The venison goulash was good, but I wasn't 100% impressed; the sauce was missing a little kick. The minced steak was more like a thick meat patty, which was surprising, but not bad. Everyone really enjoyed the red cabbage. The ambiance was a bit dark. We would come back, though.

We had dinner at the restaurant on Saturday evening with seven people. The atmosphere was great, the staff was very friendly. The menu was very extensive, and everyone found something delicious. We felt very well looked after and cared for. We would love to come back. And we are very grateful that we were able to get a table at short notice, as our long-term reservation at the Italian restaurant on Friday completely backfired. Keep up the good work, a very cozy restaurant. 🥰

We visited several times. The coffee, hot chocolate, and cake were delicious. The steak with chanterelle mushrooms was excellent, as was the hunter's schnitzel. We also ordered a salad to go; the wait was about 15 minutes. The salad was truly delicious and highly recommended.

There were eight of us dining, and we were all satisfied. We were warned when we made our reservations that there would be a wait. We simply packed a few games and ordered an extra glass of wine 😉👍 Everyone's food was delicious. One star deducted for the "stale" atmosphere and the fact that it wasn't noticeable when the drinks were empty. (But that could also have been due to the high volume of visitors.) Nevertheless, we would come again and can recommend it.

None of this was particularly tasty: The venison roast wasn't prepared in the traditional way (seasoned only with pepper and salt?) and the typical game spices were missing! The red cabbage was almost cooked to a pulp, also poorly seasoned, but thickly thickened. This was already criticized on our vacation 3 years ago. The hunter's sauce for the schnitzel was also tasteless (cream, thickener, mushrooms), and the side salad, with lots of iceberg lettuce, filled the plate 🥴 The absolute highlight was the so-called cream puff: an absolutely tough, dessert-plate-sized dough ball that tasted as if it had been sitting open in the kitchen all day, absorbing all the cooking flavors!! Well, enjoy! The 2 stars are only because you can still tell that the basic ingredients are good; but the execution is disastrous!!!

We had dinner here with my husband last week. It takes a while for them to take our order and give our order, but waiting was worth it! The soup was perfect, the food was good and everything was good. Not a fan of the place, but the food was amazing! We left the restaurant thinking i want to come back and eat there again. Also the person who took and gave our order was friendly. 😊

I stayed here for two nights in a single room with a terrace. It was very good value for money in terms of size, bathroom, and mattress. The breakfast buffet left nothing to be desired, and I received friendly service in the restaurant, and the food was delicious. I was able to park my motorcycle in a private parking lot right next to the hotel.

Disgusting! Had a Schöfferhofer grapefruit where the best-before date had been accidentally removed (unfortunately, noticed too late). Service was not only unfriendly but also slow and disinterested. They felt like we were disturbing their midday peace... but then they wouldn't leave the shop open! And the long-awaited Kaiserschmarn, a disgrace!!! Half-finished, the consistency was like it was yesterday, and a portion that wasn't even big enough for a child's plate. The apple sauce was the best, but it probably came from a jar and tasted bland. And then there were €11.90 for that. Absolutely not, never not recommended... As a fan of "Schmarn" (smothered pancakes), I was totally disappointed, especially with the best-before date removed and the indifference with which it was reacted...

I ate there this evening, or rather, tried to. I ordered a steak with chanterelle mushrooms for €35. It was supposed to be medium. I got a shoe sole that was so cooked through that it squeaked when I cut it. I sent it back and asked for a repair. I got back equally tough, overcooked meat, which was even chewed by other guests. Disgusting!!! The "oriental" "cook" said: "If you don't want this, get out of here!!!" The absolute worst!!! I would not recommend it at all. This kind of business shouldn't even be operating in the restaurant industry!!!

We have been here 3 times already and it is great, dog friendly and spacious with a mini kitchen. Price/performance ratio is top, very tasty scrambled eggs for breakfast and the place is very nice with a nice children's playground in the park and customer friendly, we will definitely be back ❤️ the Liebesbankweg is so beautiful and on the Bocksberg there are lots of activities for children too 🙏 best wishes Sabine and Heiko and our ridgeback dog Lotte💐

We've been going to Hahnenklee for 40 years and have known this place for a long time. It used to be a homely and well-run restaurant. This time, it was truly creepy. Everything seemed very neglected and unloved... there were little dead flies all over the windowsill. We stopped in in the afternoon and ordered a snack. The classic currywurst with fries. I got a supermarket sausage, smoked and reddish, and from the deep fryer... I left it after one bite... My wife had a waffle. You'd think you couldn't go wrong with that. Far from it... the whole thing was covered in burnt pieces, like soot... which was probably due to poor care of the waffle iron. I know how difficult it is to run a restaurant. You have to demonstrate quality every day. But you shouldn't do it so half-heartedly and so poorly...

We spent our vacation in Hanenklee and visited Cafe Steffens several times. This restaurant is highly recommended, as it offers a wide and delicious selection. We would especially like to emphasize the friendly service!

We ordered three dinners (burgers, brizza, and cheese spaetzle) around 8:30 p.m. and had to wait 50 minutes for our food, even though the restaurant was barely busy. Since we were there with our 8-year-old son, we politely asked how long the food would take and received a rather rude reply that we had just ordered relatively late...not very customer-friendly. There was also a family with a toddler there who was constantly screaming so loudly that we and other guests were completely annoyed. There was no reaction from the waitress. When the food finally arrived, the brizza and burgers tasted good. The cheese spaetzle were a complete disaster: dry spaetzle with dried-on cheese and a few fried onions. So, we cannot recommend the restaurant.

The two of us had dinner here – the food was good, albeit poorly presented. The ambiance was not pleasant – jumbled and dusty decorations, plastic plants with price tags on them, and loud, blaring radio music. Furthermore, we weren't informed in advance that card payments weren't possible due to a technical problem; we weren't informed until we checked out.

We had a flammkuchen (flannel cake) on the terrace, and it was delicious. We only had to wait 50 minutes for it, even though it wasn't very busy. The prices are reasonable, and the staff was friendly.

This was our first time at the restaurant and we had to wait over an hour for our food. That's unacceptable, and the cleanliness wasn't great either, with cobwebs in the corners, etc. The food was OK.

We were there for the first time today! Everything was great!

We stayed here for five days last week and stayed in the two single rooms. It was very nice and very good value for money! The mattresses are very comfortable. The rooms are a decent size. The furnishings and bathroom are very practical, and everything was perfect. We will definitely come back!

The food was a disaster. Whoever cooks here is in the wrong profession.

We were on a moped holiday in the Harz Mountains. The price/performance ratio was absolutely fine. The rooms were good, and the beds were also OK. Breakfast had a sufficient selection. For that price, you can't complain. We'll definitely check there first next time.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend it. The food was a complete disaster. Long wait, no sauce for the schnitzel, and unfortunately, when I asked, they couldn't bring me any sauce either.

Disappointing. Waited 1:15 hours for the food even though it wasn't that busy. One slice of roast venison. Apple and red cabbage completely overcooked. Prices were outrageous. Staff were quite nice, hence 2 stars.

I wanted to eat a knuckle of pork for my 50th birthday; when it arrived, I was almost stunned. The knuckle was completely flabby. They tried to recook it, but to no avail. A knuckle of pork should have crispy skin and the meat should fall off the bone. I also pointed out to the waitress that there were guests sitting at two tables away who weren't even being noticed. And to top it all off, the waitress didn't even respond in a friendly manner. And that just goes to show that as a guest passing through, you're apparently not a bother.

Clean, good, and cozy accommodations. Small kitchenette, comfortable beds. Quiet. We felt very comfortable and would gladly return. Good value for money. Decent breakfast. Very friendly service staff. We only ate broth once, which was very good. Our hiking companions always enjoyed the food. Anyone who finds fault with the outdated ambience should instead be happy about every hotelier and restaurateur who hasn't given up during the coronavirus pandemic and is still dedicated to this demanding task. Running a hotel and restaurant business is no easy feat. Many thanks to the owners and staff for the pleasant stay.

We only stopped here for a quick bite, as apparently you can't have lunch in this town until after 2:30 p.m. But coincidences are always good. We ate a classic schnitzel here. It was accompanied by a salad starter. The schnitzel was served carelessly with fries. But it tasted amazing. My wife had a burger. It looked world-class and tasted it, too. The service was super friendly and accommodating.

We waited two hours for a schnitzel with fries. Even when the restaurant is full, it's too long. The menu is simply too extensive. It needs to be optimized. The two stars are for the very friendly service.

Das Essen war 5/5, unsere Bedienung war 5/5 aber das Ambiente war leider gar nix. Was wirklich schade ist weil der Rest so unfassbar gut war. Aber für mich gehört ein gutes Ambiente einfach dazu. Vielleicht kann man hier noch einige Euros investieren sodass der erste Eindruck nicht so sehr abschreckt. Die Portionen sahen zuerst klein aus, doch wir sind beide davon mehr als satt geworden.

My wife and I were at Restaurant Steffens three days ago. The reception of an older Mr. M. was, I would call it, “some getting used to”. My wife ordered a chicken schnitzel with fries, I ordered a pepper schnitzel with the request to replace the side dish of fries with dumplings. Mr. M. replied, in my opinion angrily, that this was possible with an additional charge of €3. I explained to him that three days ago we were able to change the side dish at no extra charge. He replied snidely that that was probably three years ago. Then the schnitzels came that my wife was the size of a small fried egg. Instead of the pepper schnitzel, I was served a champingnong schnitzel, with 8 small morsels of dumplings. Mr. M. explained to me that we have now sorted things out that way. That means, for an additional charge of €3, the fries will not be credited. I replied that it wouldn't fill me up and ordered another portion Dumplings. There were again 8 small pieces of dumplings. You have to imagine it as if you were cutting the smallest Pfanni dumplings into four parts. When the bill came, I had to pay €6 to replace the insert. When asked that we didn't have any fries as a side dish, Mr. M. explained that that was just the way it was and left. You just feel ripped off. We won't be visiting this place again in the near future. Gone were the pleasant times when Ms. Steffens was still present. The friendliness and the price-performance ratio were there for years. It's a shame actually.

In the middle of Hahnenklee is the Steffens restaurant, which we visited with four people. The food was very tasty and freshly prepared, the atmosphere is cozy and the service was courteous and very nice. The price-performance ratio was good. Thank you, we will be happy to come again.

We were here for dinner. A very nice and attentive woman served us. The best thing first: the beef roulade was really very good, cooked like grandma did. There's nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, the chicken burger had a bit too much sweet chilli sauce on it, but it was still delicious. Unfortunately the children's meal, pasta with Bolognese, was nothing. Neither our child nor the dad, who had to eat it, liked it. But he liked the dumplings, red cabbage and sauce from the beef roulades so much that we swapped them. The fruit spritzers are a bit overpriced and not very tasty, unfortunately. The whole restaurant is getting quite old. Because you can still have a good meal here.

On the occasion of our vacation, we were guests here for dinner. We were guests with 4 people and had 2x schnitzel (asparagus & pepper), cheese spaetzle and children's bolo. Schnitzel asparagus highly recommended. As with the pepper schnitzel, the schnitzel could have been larger for the price. But the taste is okay. The cheese spaetzle was a 6 out of 10. The ambience and service are completely okay. Nice people there. I would like larger portions here. Otherwise it's nice here.

Unfortunately I'm giving it a bad rating today. 2 pork medallions with 5-6 sticks of asparagus, sauce H. and potatoes for 37 euros!! I ordered and received 2 small, thin, dry, pickled 'steaks'...! I'm in tears at this poor price/performance ratio. 2 stars for the nice service.

Hotel Café Steffens was one of the best restaurants where we ate on our vacation! I have never eaten or drunk so well! The hotel looks very inviting and is very quiet! When you enter you are kindly shown to a free table, everything is very clean and since we were on vacation there at Christmas time, everything was very decorated for Christmas! The food was very, very tasty and the wine was recommended to us with the meal! The manager of the house was very nice, even though we were too early, we were allowed to order! Thank you very much for a great Christmas evening with good food and delicious wine ❤️ 🍷 on our own behalf ; I can't understand many of the negative reviews that have been written here and find it a complete impudence to drag such a beautiful restaurant into the dirt! But the person who is trashing this restaurant here is writing badly about everyone...

Dantesque Damnation – The stench hovers like a disembodied spirit of disgust. 2. Existentialist Void – Toilet paper? A concept, not reality. 3. Truly, a meal should not only nourish the body, but also delight the soul, but alas! What was served to me when I hoped for good taste in that place called Steffens? A salad that hardly seemed worth the effort to pick was presented to me - neither fresh nor refreshing, but rather drowned in a flood of dressing, as if one wanted to awaken his pale spirit with spice. But in vain! Variety, that virtue that makes a meal enjoyable, was alien to him, and it seemed to me that it had not been prepared by a careful hand, but by one that lacked love and consideration. But alas! Even worse were those dishes that bore the name of an old Swabian treasure, but desecrated it by their presentation. Cheese spaetzle, they were called, but know this: there was no hint of spice, no full-bodied melting in the tongue, no hint of the alpine pastures. The cheese - a shadow of itself, weak, foreign, a pale imitation of the noble. Salt, that silent guardian of taste, was probably forgotten or deliberately spurned so that no palate would find pleasure in it. The spaetzle itself - of that sad nature that only knows mediocrity - and the fried onions, which should be of crisp sublimity, lay sluggish, robbed of their bite, like leaves that autumn has forgotten. And when the last hope for sweets fell, when the cheesecake came, it was completely buried. No hint of craftsmanship, no scent to warm the heart - just the dull aftertaste of a frozen product that once perhaps promised life, but now only carried the memory of it. So I left that place, hungry not only for true taste, but also for that care that gives dignity to a dish.

Can definitely recommend the Hotel Café Steffens! We were looking for a place to eat on my birthday and ended up here! Super nice service and delicious food! Even our dog was allowed to come along and made herself comfortable under the table!

We drove from Lautenthal to Steffens because of the advertised cream puffs and were not disappointed. These really deserve the name giant cream puffs.

Went to the restaurant this afternoon after skiing. Ordered the roast venison. But unfortunately it was just average. The sauce was below average. Many croquettes come apart when cutting. The red cabbage was ok. But that's not enough for a higher rating.

This restaurant was recommended to us, so we followed it and were not disappointed. There's something for everyone on the menu, and the portions are very generous. We were served very nicely by a gentleman. We would come again.

I was at this restaurant recently and I'm sorry to say I was disappointed. The Käsespätzle were overpriced and the cheese was hard to find - I really had to look for it! The cordon bleu and croquettes were served without any side dish, just naked on the plate, which seemed very unappetizing. I also found the spritzer at €6.50 much too expensive for what was on offer. The service was OK, but the food really spoiled the overall impression. I expect more for my money and probably won't eat here again.

The four of us had dinner this evening. We waited until someone even registered that we wanted a table. An older man said something about reservations. I tried calling all day without success. The food, spaetzle and potato pancakes for the price is more than cheeky for frozen potato pancakes and loveless and ready-made spaetzle. The beer we ordered didn't come either. The service was friendly and helpful. Now the kicker: an outrageous raspberry spritzer for €6.50 with sparkling water and raspberry syrup. Never again.

This afternoon was disastrous. Long wait for drinks. There was no warm food today and the dirty dishes from the previous guest were still on the table for ages + the table wasn't cleaned!

The food is always great, there's nothing to complain about. The one star today goes to the rude older gentleman, although as regular customers (we've never seen the gentleman before) we were there and asked if there was a place available. He said they have reservations. We said no, so without a reservation nothing was possible in an impertinent tone and left us standing there.

Restaurant rating: Absolutely no recommendation. Went to the restaurant because it smelled so delicious outside. First we were sent to a table without chairs and were allowed to get the chairs from another table, then we waited half an hour for a waitress to take our drinks and then we went to the counter to let us know. The excuse was “oh, it’s rare for someone to sit here” - even though the table was assigned to us. We then had to wait another 1 1/2 hours for the food. Drinks were then empty again - the glasses were taken away but new orders were not taken. The volume was more reminiscent of a pub feeling and had no trace of a feel-good atmosphere. When the food arrived we were surprised at the portion size and the fact that the food was unfortunately only lukewarm. Stressful on a Friday evening or not - that shouldn't be the case.

We were there for dinner. Prices and portions are not appropriate. Currywurst with fries. Definitely too stingy with the fries. Fried potatoes with fried egg and salad. Not enough fried potatoes. And the salad wasn't asked about the dressing. Chefstyle Burger definitely worth the money. However, a note: "The patty is a little flatter, therefore more rounded and fills out the bun. And like other guests and reviews, we weren't asked if we would like to drink something else. It's a shame. The staff is polite and tried hard.

This recession applies exclusively to the restaurant. The three of us ate at Steffens. The service tried hard, but could neither explain to the lady at the next table what a “delicious sauce” there was in the spring pan, nor what a “Pharisee” was. I just expect more here! We returned the first two side salads. We weren't asked about the dressing, so we received salad with, in our opinion, cream herring fillet sauce. This was exchanged for a salad with a ready-made vinegar/oil sauce, with the oil and sugar clearly being in the foreground. The son had a cheeseburger, it looked really good and tasted good too. We each had a Jägerschnitzel, which was breaded pork schnitzel with sauce and mushrooms. The fries were very good. My husband had the rest of my fries and his son's, so he was full too. Various dishes from the extensive menu were not available, somehow everything that you can't throw into the deep fryer, such as Rhenish sauerbraten, goulash, beef roulade. A rogue who thinks something of it. The three stars for the really hard service and the very good burger.

Weekend in the apartment. Very satisfied. Good selection in the restaurant, very tasty, friendly service, even though it was full.

We went for dinner. It was delicious and homemade. A special highlight was the apple strudel.

Super tasty food - the roast venison was very good. The other dishes were also great.

We only went there to eat, it actually tasted pretty good But I once ordered cordon bleu, with extra fried potatoes because it is usually served with croquettes. Final result: Cordon Bleu with croquettes without sauce 🤷‍♀️ My fried potatoes were forgotten but they were still available when asked.

I waited an hour and a half for my food and the staff was not friendly at all. The quality of the food was poor and the boss behaved rudely.

I would have liked to give a positive review. But I can't do that. As a guest you are deliberately ignored by the staff. So after half an hour of waiting, during which nothing was done by the staff, we and three other couples got up and left. But Cafe Steffens still scores points. It has the worst service in the entire Harz. Incidentally, the “1894” is 100 meters away. You can see how service, cuisine and customer friendliness works!

We ate there twice. The staff was very nice and friendly. The food was also very tasty.

Today we ate in the restaurant. We ordered the vegetable pan twice for 15.90 euros each, this was the worst vegetable pan we have ever eaten. (Price/performance) Since we are there once every year, it is all the more annoying that ours is missing Didn't take criticism seriously. We booked a room there for the weekend. These offer enough space for 4 people and are functionally furnished. The first evening we sat in the house. The dining room was well filled and there were only two employees in service. Nevertheless, the food came quickly, without a long wait, although we were asked beforehand to understand that it might take a little longer. The food itself tasted very good and the portions were of a reasonable size. The price of around 25 euros per person including drinks is completely acceptable. The breakfast was rich and offered something for every taste. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A very nice weekend.
