We stopped by for dinner during our vacation. There were four of us and we had two schnitzels (asparagus and pepper), cheese spaetzle, and a children's bolo. Highly recommend the asparagus schnitzel. As with the pepper schnitzel, the schnitzel could have been a bit larger for the price. The taste was okay, though. The cheese spaetzle was a 6 out of 10. The ambiance and service were perfectly fine. The people there were nice. I would have preferred larger portions. Otherwise, it's nice.

Unfortunately I'm giving it a bad rating today. 2 pork medallions with 5-6 sticks of asparagus, sauce H. and potatoes for 37 euros!! I ordered and received 2 small, thin, dry, pickled 'steaks'...! I'm in tears at this poor price/performance ratio. 2 stars for the nice service.

I can only rate the restaurant I was in on 3 evenings in a row. Solid with 70s charm but very clean and tidy. Very friendly staff and very good food, everything freshly prepared and at reasonable prices! I'll be back!

Hotel Café Steffens was one of the best restaurants where we ate on our vacation! I have never eaten or drunk so well! The hotel looks very inviting and is very quiet! When you enter you are kindly shown to a free table, everything is very clean and since we were on vacation there at Christmas time, everything was very decorated for Christmas! The food was very, very tasty and the wine was recommended to us with the meal! The manager of the house was very nice, even though we were too early, we were allowed to order! Thank you very much for a great Christmas evening with good food and delicious wine ❤️ 🍷 on our own behalf ; I can't understand many of the negative reviews that have been written here and find it a complete impudence to drag such a beautiful restaurant into the dirt! But the person who is trashing this restaurant here is writing badly about everyone...

We ate here twice during our stay in Hahnenklee and were very satisfied both times. Service was always very friendly and communicative, the food was quite simple but always good.

The price/performance ratio is also right here. Food was very tasty. The burgers and meat dishes are highly recommended. Not a long wait even though the restaurant was busy. We'd love to come back.

Truly, a meal should not only nourish the body, but also delight the soul, but alas! What was served to me when I hoped for good taste in that place called Steffens? A salad that hardly seemed worth the effort to pick was presented to me - neither fresh nor refreshing, but rather drowned in a flood of dressing, as if one wanted to awaken his pale spirit with spice. But in vain! Variety, that virtue that makes a meal enjoyable, was alien to him, and it seemed to me that it had not been prepared by a careful hand, but by one that lacked love and consideration. But alas! Even worse were those dishes that bore the name of an old Swabian treasure, but desecrated it by their presentation. Cheese spaetzle, they were called, but know this: there was no hint of spice, no full-bodied melting in the tongue, no hint of the alpine pastures. The cheese - a shadow of itself, weak, foreign, a pale imitation of the noble. Salt, that silent guardian of taste, was probably forgotten or deliberately spurned so that no palate would find pleasure in it. The spaetzle itself - of that sad nature that only knows mediocrity - and the fried onions, which should be of crisp sublimity, lay sluggish, robbed of their bite, like leaves that autumn has forgotten. And when the last hope for sweets fell, when the cheesecake came, it was completely buried. No hint of craftsmanship, no scent to warm the heart - just the dull aftertaste of a frozen product that once perhaps promised life, but now only carried the memory of it. So I left that place, hungry not only for true taste, but also for that care that gives dignity to a dish.

Can definitely recommend the Hotel Café Steffens! We were looking for a place to eat on my birthday and ended up here! Super nice service and delicious food! Even our dog was allowed to come along and made herself comfortable under the table!

We drove from Lautenthal to Steffens because of the advertised cream puffs and were not disappointed. These really deserve the name giant cream puffs.

Went to the restaurant this afternoon after skiing. Ordered the roast venison. But unfortunately it was just average. The sauce was below average. Many croquettes come apart when cutting. The red cabbage was ok. But that's not enough for a higher rating.

This restaurant was recommended to us, so we followed it and were not disappointed. There's something for everyone on the menu, and the portions are very generous. We were served very nicely by a gentleman. We would come again.

I was at this restaurant recently and I'm sorry to say I was disappointed. The Käsespätzle were overpriced and the cheese was hard to find - I really had to look for it! The cordon bleu and croquettes were served without any side dish, just naked on the plate, which seemed very unappetizing. I also found the spritzer at €6.50 much too expensive for what was on offer. The service was OK, but the food really spoiled the overall impression. I expect more for my money and probably won't eat here again.

The four of us had dinner this evening. We waited until someone even registered that we wanted a table. An older man said something about reservations. I tried calling all day without success. The food, spaetzle and potato pancakes for the price is more than cheeky for frozen potato pancakes and loveless and ready-made spaetzle. The beer we ordered didn't come either. The service was friendly and helpful. Now the kicker: an outrageous raspberry spritzer for €6.50 with sparkling water and raspberry syrup. Never again.

This afternoon was disastrous. Long wait for drinks. There was no warm food today and the dirty dishes from the previous guest were still on the table for ages + the table wasn't cleaned!

The food is always great, there's nothing to complain about. The one star today goes to the rude older gentleman, although as regular customers (we've never seen the gentleman before) we were there and asked if there was a place available. He said they have reservations. We said no, so without a reservation nothing was possible in an impertinent tone and left us standing there.

Restaurant rating: Absolutely no recommendation. Went to the restaurant because it smelled so delicious outside. First we were sent to a table without chairs and were allowed to get the chairs from another table, then we waited half an hour for a waitress to take our drinks and then we went to the counter to let us know. The excuse was “oh, it’s rare for someone to sit here” - even though the table was assigned to us. We then had to wait another 1 1/2 hours for the food. Drinks were then empty again - the glasses were taken away but new orders were not taken. The volume was more reminiscent of a pub feeling and had no trace of a feel-good atmosphere. When the food arrived we were surprised at the portion size and the fact that the food was unfortunately only lukewarm. Stressful on a Friday evening or not - that shouldn't be the case.

We were there for dinner. Prices and portions are not appropriate. Currywurst with fries. Definitely too stingy with the fries. Fried potatoes with fried egg and salad. Not enough fried potatoes. And the salad wasn't asked about the dressing. Chefstyle Burger definitely worth the money. However, a note: "The patty is a little flatter, therefore more rounded and fills out the bun. And like other guests and reviews, we weren't asked if we would like to drink something else. It's a shame. The staff is polite and tried hard.

This recession applies exclusively to the restaurant. The three of us ate at Steffens. The service tried hard, but could neither explain to the lady at the next table what a “delicious sauce” there was in the spring pan, nor what a “Pharisee” was. I just expect more here! We returned the first two side salads. We weren't asked about the dressing, so we received salad with, in our opinion, cream herring fillet sauce. This was exchanged for a salad with a ready-made vinegar/oil sauce, with the oil and sugar clearly being in the foreground. The son had a cheeseburger, it looked really good and tasted good too. We each had a Jägerschnitzel, which was breaded pork schnitzel with sauce and mushrooms. The fries were very good. My husband had the rest of my fries and his son's, so he was full too. Various dishes from the extensive menu were not available, somehow everything that you can't throw into the deep fryer, such as Rhenish sauerbraten, goulash, beef roulade. A rogue who thinks something of it. The three stars for the really hard service and the very good burger.

We only went there to eat, it actually tasted pretty good But I once ordered cordon bleu, with extra fried potatoes because it is usually served with croquettes. Final result: Cordon Bleu with croquettes without sauce 🤷‍♀️ My fried potatoes were forgotten but they were still available when asked.

I waited an hour and a half for my food and the staff was not friendly at all. The quality of the food was poor and the boss behaved rudely.

I would have liked to give a positive review. But I can't do that. As a guest you are deliberately ignored by the staff. So after half an hour of waiting, during which nothing was done by the staff, we and three other couples got up and left. But Cafe Steffens still scores points. It has the worst service in the entire Harz. Incidentally, the “1894” is 100 meters away. You can see how service, cuisine and customer friendliness works!

The dining room was well filled and there were only two employees in service. (Price/performance) Since we are there once every year, it is all the more annoying that ours is missing Didn't take criticism seriously. We were there for dinner with lots of children. It seems a bit staid, but the service was very nice. The selection of food is huge and everything tasted great. We'd love to come back.

We ate in this restaurant twice. The food is good, but nothing exceptional. The chicken burger had a ready-made patty, the sauce was supposed to be sweet and sour, but it was sweetchilli, i.e. spicy. Something like that should be mentioned. Not everyone can do it. Baking paper as a base is also not very appealing. The second dish was okay. In my opinion, price performance is not guaranteed. Dogs are allowed in, but you can get water everywhere, so that wasn't the case. The ambience is nice. The service was nice. Well attended.

It's going ok. We had dinner there. Turkey steak was drowned in cream gravy. The burger was partly cold on the edge. For this, including drinks, over 40 euros... Price/performance in my opinion not balanced. The toilets could use a freshening up. Maybe the coffee table is better there. Let's see.

We hadn't rented a room here, but were traveling through on our bikes. So we decided to take a break. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were allowed to choose a table ourselves. No matter whether inside or outside. When we arrived at the table, we first looked at what was delicious... from Hawaiian toast to currywurst to schnitzel, everything was there. We once had the sauerbraten and cordon bleu. We have to say that it tasted very, very good. There was nothing from the freezer. Everything fresh and already prepared. I have to say, we have been coming to eat regularly for 5 years and have been thrilled every time. On our last visit I was disappointed, not because of the food, but because of the service. We had reserved and were assigned our table. After 20 minutes of complete disregard, we got up and left. The restaurant was full and it was certainly stressful, but this could have been managed differently with a little communication. We'll still be back and hope to be able to enjoy a delicious meal again.

Not worth the visit! The restaurant had received 4 stars which we took as a good sign. But after our visit we unfortunately can only give it one star, at most… We had to wait 15 minutes until they took our order, even after them noticing us waiting. If the restaurant would have been full I would have overlooked the waiting time, but the restaurant was half empty… After ordering we had to wait another 45 minutes until the food was served. Keep in mind the food is “nothing extra”, not worth the 45 minute wait. The food was very overpriced for the small size of the meal. I was still hungry as we left.. There were no smiles on the employees. I’m not sure if they enjoyed working there.. As we had paid the employee rushed in to clear our table, not a smile, not a “have a nice evening”, nothing, but a sour face…at least they were quick now 😅 I’m usually a positive person, but this visit unfortunately could not keep me in a good mood. The guest at the table next to us had to wait 40 minutes as well, they were not happy with it, to say the least.. I do not recommend this place.

Extremely long wait for both seating and food (50+ minutes). Staff would rarely look up from the floor, so impossiblo to get their attention. And then when you finally managed they would proceed to other things anyway. U sure need a lot of patience to go here..

The service is very nice and tries to process orders promptly. It's very comfortable to sit in the center of Hahnenklee and in colder temperatures there are small blankets for the guests. I definitely felt like I was in good hands.

On our way to the North Sea we visited Café Steffens for dinner. Here you can enjoy good old German home cooking, at very high prices. The food tasted really good. But beware! Watch your change. In our case the €2 tip turned into €3, the waiter is probably a professional shell player or needs an abacus.

We stayed at the Aaron holiday home. Very good facilities (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom) very lovingly furnished, especially the children's room under the roof with lots of toys. Small outdoor area (plants would be nice here).

First of all, the food was really good. Unfortunately the waiting time of over 1.5 hours is very questionable, 6 of us have 4 children. Unfortunately we weren't told in advance that the waiting time was very long. That's a real shame and we would be deprived of the opportunity to decide for ourselves. Really, really sad.

Of the 5 tables outside, 2 were occupied and 3 were full of old dishes. We actually just wanted a coffee and a piece of cake, but the waitress ignored us. At the Moock bakery 100 meters away it was perfect 👌

Beim Eintreten war ich noch skeptisch, da die Einrichtung doch sehr altmodisch ist. Passt aber zum gesamten Ort. Das Essen ist gut bürgerlich und irgendwie ist von allem was dabei: Burger, Schnitzel, Spargel, Käsespätzle. Interessant fand ich die sog. Brizza, eine Art Pizza aus Laugengebäck. Musste probiert werden und fand ich sehr lecker! Auch für Vegetarier gibt es eine relativ gute Auswahl. Salat wird mit Fertig-Dressing serviert und auch der Spargel kommt mit Hollandaise aus der Tomy-Packung. Aber wo es drauf ankommt, Fleisch und Gemüse, da ist es frisch. Die Preise sind absolut angemessen, da darf man dann auch nicht die Sterneküche erwarten. Der Riesen Windbeutel für 7,90 Euro ist dafür schon fast zu billig. Davon werden eigentlich mindestens zwei Personen satt. Wir waren drei mal im Steffens und haben zu zweit für mehrere Getränke und teilweise Vor- oder Nachspeise zwischen 55 und 70 Euro bezahlt. Die Servicekräfte fanden wir auch richtig gut. Auch auf extra Wünsche (z.B. Tür zu, weil es zog) wurde nett reagiert (beim nächsten Mal wurde uns direkt ein anderer Tisch angeboten).

We were 8 adults with 5 small children. The location was recommended to us as a larger group because it was very family friendly. Given the group size, I would not make this recommendation. The staff tried to give us an appropriately sized table, which ultimately worked. We were told the waiting time would be 30 minutes when we ordered, but it ended up being 50 minutes. The children became whiny. The food was OK.

Not a good idea.. The service is terrible, friendly, but even when the glasses are empty, they don't even ask if you want something more to drink. The waiting time that was accepted due to the large number of guests was way overused. In addition, the food is not appropriate for the price. (Many finished products) All in all, this restaurant is not recommended.

Decent price/performance ratio. The CordonBleu was great again this time (I'm here often). It probably depends on the boss being in the kitchen. But the arranging isn't his thing. In my case the plate comes with the Cordon Bleu and croquettes. That's it. No lettuce leaf, no tomato. However, there was a salad first. It still looks sober at first. The taste was great and that's what counts.

Ich hatte ein Zanderfile, das war einfach ungenießbar! Knüppelhart und ertränkt in Soße. Als die Bedienung fragte ob alles in Ordnung sei, sagte ich das der Fisch sehr trocken sei, ich könnte ich kaum schneiden. Was bei Fisch ja eigentlich eh unüblich ist. Die Bedienung nahm den Fisch mit und brachte ihn mir tatsächlich geschnitten (also auseinander gerissen) wieder. Da war ich das erste Mal geschockt. Der Fisch war mittlerweile kalt und mein Mann mit seinem Gericht (was auch das Geld nicht wert war) fertig. Der Fisch war natürlich immer noch ungenießbar. Auf eine weitere Beschwerde bot man mir an einen neuen Fisch zu bringen, das nahm ich dankend an. Der neue Fisch in der gleichen Soße, war auch die reinste Katastrophe. Mir war auch der Appetit vergangen. Den Fisch haben ich nicht mehr gegessen ( er war einfach ungenießbar). Als wir nach der Rechnung fragten, meine die Bedienung das ich den Fisch zwei Mal bezahlen soll, da ich ihn ja auch zwei Mal bestellt haben. Da ist mir wirklich alles aus dem Gesicht gefallen. Der Chef kam auf verlangen zu uns an den Tisch und hat mich regerecht ausgeschimpft. Ob mir überhaupt bewusst wäre das er jetzt Fisch im Wert von 50 Euro in den Müll schmeißen müsste, weil ich den nicht gegessen haben. Also sowas ist mir noch nie passiert, Essen ungenießbar und doppelte Rechnung.

We just had dinner there and it was really tasty and plentiful. The restaurant's interior design may not be top modern, but we still gave it 5 stars because it fits authentically with the Harz Mountains. A visit is highly recommended.

Wenn man in Hahnenklee essen geht - dann hier! Hammer! Essen sowas von lecker und schön zubereitet! Nur das Ausstattung ist schon in die Jahre gekommen (90er?), sonst Hammer!

We were with three families at lunchtime on Friday and had some starter soups, stir-fries, children's meals, burgers, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. The dishes were well seasoned and we enjoyed them. There is a deduction for the dull knives, a shared bowl of fried potatoes for different people (a bad habit that we have had in other restaurants), noodles in the children's meals were spaetzle and the portion of the coachman's pan for €30 was too small for this price.

Special table reservations are promised but not honored. The service staff was very unfriendly and didn't care. We have never experienced anything like this. Had to switch to another restaurant where the customers' wishes were taken into account.

Given the rude staff, I would like to give 0 stars. Animals are obviously not welcome, so we were treated very dismissively from the start (we had 2 dogs with us). We weren't noticed at all for the first 2 minutes. When we spoke to the lady behind the counter, she referred us to her colleague, who very rudely assigned us a table. Our request to get a table in the corner (which we had specified when making the reservation and which was promised to us) was met with the cheeky answer that this was simply not possible. The boss was also visibly annoyed with us and our dogs because she also complained that it was not possible to get a suitable table with the dogs. When we left the restaurant due to the impossible staff, they didn't even look at us. When we made the reservation, we specifically stated that we had two dogs with us and needed a place in a corner. If this is not possible, you are welcome to say so directly. We are therefore very disappointed by the unreliability and impudence that was shown to us. We then went to another restaurant that was happy to let the dogs in.

A very cozy restaurant. There was an excellent knuckle with fried potatoes and sauerkraut. We recommend. 👍🏼

That food tasted good. Nice selection of dishes, something for everyone. The negative thing was that the waiting time was unreasonably long. Orders take about 20 minutes, waiting for dishes takes about 30 minutes. We ordered soup twice and Königsberger Klopse, a dish from the daily menu. It shouldn't be so difficult to prepare. By the way, I think the portions of the soups are definitely too small, the small soup bowl is only half full, for just under 6 euros. Then we wanted dessert and coffee and had to remind several times that we wanted to order. Clearing the tables before bringing dessert is forgotten. There is clearly a lack of staff. During that time, each table could have brought customers twice. It took a total of 2 hours. A couple at the table next door gave up and walked away. The shop owner also allowed herself a nasty saying.
