Café Mélange in Hamburg

Breakfast mediocre. The toasted avocado bread was dripping with fat and unfortunately that taste predominated. Service up on the balcony was rarely seen and wasn't particularly friendly either. We ended up going downstairs to pay because no one came and asked if we wanted to order anything else. Maybe better to sit outside downstairs

Had a spontaneous lunch. 1x daily menu fish pasta (excellently spicy) and 1x vegan Bolognese. And Ricardo made this short stop an experience for us!

Excellent. A breakfast of Kings. Coffee better than in Italy And the "Super" apple strudel is better than in Vienna and the rest of the world. Mohamad, thank you for your guidance and suggestions. We will repeat and recommend with pleasure. 👌

Beautiful location, great view - but the prices are higher here. Staff friendly and accommodating.

Cafe is located right in the city on the small Alster. You can actually sit very well. The store is clean, including the toilets. The coffee was good, as was the cake. Service was also good, price was a bit expensive. But the view makes up for it.

Had to wait 50 minutes for our pasta. And then the food didn't arrive together. And best of all, we were charged 25 euros too much! Did not show the invoice in advance and only calculated it after leaving and then noticed that far too much had been charged. Beware of these rip-offs.

Wir waren zum Frühstück da und waren alle 4 sehr begeistert. Ein kleiner Verbesserungsvorschlag wäre, dass die Brötchen gerne bei dem hochwertigen Frühstück die gleiche Qualität aufweisen. Wir saßen bei strahlendem Sonnenschein auf der Terrasse. Dort wäre es schön gewesen etwas mehr Platz an den Tischen zu haben. Der Service war der beste den ich seit langem erlebt habe. Obwohl es sehr voll war und lange warten mussten, wurden wir stets auf den aktuellen Stand gebracht. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder. Die Neueröffnung ist gelungen und auch der Umbau sieht hochwertig aus und die Bestuhlung sehr einladend und bequem.

Great view, top location.. Good coffee. That's it. Fried eggs don't work, only scrambled eggs work. Kaiserschmarrn only from 12. The kitchen is super inflexible. Service is good. Well... my god... 180 euros for 4 people 🤣🤣

**Café Melange, Hamburg** After a shopping trip with my daughter, we visited Café Melange. The ambience was really nice – a great view of the water, the town hall and the arcades. Unfortunately, the culinary experience was not convincing. The bruschetta could have been prepared much better and the prices were simply exorbitant. A small juice spritzer already cost over 5 euros, and other drinks were also very expensive. The service was OK, but not particularly outstanding. The only really positive thing was the wonderful view. Otherwise, I was a bit disappointed by the increased prices and the overall package.

We had a really amazing experience at this restaurant, with the most delicious pasta! Eden was our server and she was so incredibly lovely. Very knowledgeable about the menu and patient while we were indecisive (lol). I definitely recommend visiting this restaurant, and would be back should we return to Hamburg in the future.

We were there recently for breakfast. Little Kerner, about 40 years old. Pakistanis or Afghans. . It was simply impossible.🙈🙈🙈 He was so cheeky! I haven't been there for a very long time. After ordering, I asked the waiter nicely if I could take a quick look at the menu. He said that's not good Because if he brings drinks and I could get them dirty.😳 It's about an ancient, pretty broken piece of paper! The man should have laminated it long ago or replaced it. He also said that according to the boss's instructions you are not allowed to do that.😁😳😳 I've never experienced anything like this before. Really! Such a waiter should be terminated without notice. They have no place in a job like this. This is just a shame for the store. I couldn't even properly look at the contents of the menu or drinks. Especially, even after the Inquire about prices. The prices are just horrible in this cafe❗️❗️❗️ For 7-euro coffee, you can afford the same in a five-star hotel Four Seasons, Atlantic or Fontanay. With fantastic ambience, service and views of the Alster in the Fontenay terrace. The waiter was so annoying... He's really spoiled our good mood. After such a terrible experience, I didn't leave him a cent as a tip. I actually never do that. He then complained so loudly to his colleague. So loud that not only we but also other guests noticed it. I will never go there again. That's already clear. Although, the location is nice. But, not under such conditions. Save your time and money... By the way, breakfast was also very modest and unpleasant… As I said, for the same money you can have breakfast at the Condi in the Four Seasons or Fontanay. Hopefully the manager of the store will take this seriously and do something about it. This is a completely honest review. I also read other reviews here today. Was there a week ago. Lunch on the terrace. I ordered a caprese salad and a glass of white wine! So when I asked for water, I got the answer: No problem, I'll give you the staff water, it's free!???🤔 What kind of speech are you supposed to make?? Admittedly, the tables were occupied and he was alone with a "newbie"!! But that doesn't work. Still gave him 18 euros tip on a 38 euros bill!!

Service was rude. We left too. Upon arrival, I checked in with an attendant for a table for two. He showed us a table, but it had not yet been cleaned. No problem, I thought. That will be cleaned immediately. But not. When I asked for the attention of someone serving, he explained to us that we should not have sat at a dirty table. When I explained to him that his colleague had shown us this table, he responded that this was not possible, otherwise the table would have been clean. He then cleared the table, but tilted a milk jug, causing milk to spill onto my partner's shoe, saying that this wouldn't have happened if we hadn't been there. My partner became irritated by this course of action. Then the immediate response was that my partner's behavior was inappropriate and that we were not welcome and the dishcloth was thrown on the table. My partner asked for the manager, but we were laughed at. I apologized a few times for apparently being seated at the wrong table, which we had been assigned. Not once did the wait staff apologize for the manner of clearing the table, spilling milk, the entire course of events. This is very unfortunate.

Nice café near the Hamburg town hall 😊 We were there during the afternoon during the week and got a seat outside without any problem 👍 The menu had a large selection, there were also a few vegetarian/vegan options. You could also have breakfast there, with a larger selection! I was able to get my café with Hafermlich without any problems, the service was super nice, the food/drinks came quickly and sitting outside was also good because we were sitting right on the canal 😊

The day was actually doomed to failure thanks to the bad weather in Hamburg, BUT our waitress Riccardo created such a good atmosphere. A real win for the café/restaurant. Bright spot of the day! Plus: great food. As a vegan you will also get your money's worth there. Great location. Human and animal friendly! 🏳️‍🌈 🐕 Love 🫶 us!

We were served by a dark-haired waiter with a nose piercing. he asked us if we wanted a map in English, we asked him if it was possible in French. He came back 10 minutes later insulting us, telling us that the French were arrogant and asking us why in Germany we would find a map in French. The hospitality and friendliness of this waiter should be avoided, he must be fired! Warning to French to avoid, no respect! It's not a typical restaurant and very expensive, not to mention being insulted by arrogant French people!!

The waiters were rude: one waiter called us “arrogant” people but apparently that should be “a French thing.” The food is overpriced for not much. I do not recommend at all.

Tourist place with prices and VERY touristy service... When the waiter demanded a tip and I told him no because German law required that prices include VAT and tip, he literally started yelling at me above "WARUM NICHT? WAR ES NICHT GUT?" He took my bank card from my hands, scanned it and threw it in my face... You have been warned... Never had this in Germany...

The short older southern asian/indian server was really rude. He didn't give proper information about payment and when he did finally he did in a derogatory manner. I was waving him for like 10 minutes ,he didn't pay attention the other server had to tell him: Hello,those people want to pay! The total experience was really awkward and he was really unprofessional!

Very bad experience. You quickly pay 35 euros per person for breakfast and get cold scrambled eggs with half a tomato and measly coffee. Fair enough because expensive location. But some of the staff were extremely unfriendly. A gentleman upstairs was OK. But in particular the gentleman with a bald head and earrings outside who (among other things) asked an 85-year-old lady (guest) why she was walking so slowly because his tray was apparently too heavy for him. I find it difficult to even call this a service. The store should think about new staff, and the employee should think about a new job that has nothing to do with service. Maybe Telekom call center... I definitely won't come back and I'll advise everyone against it.

The waitress always served me very friendly and was always present. I particularly noticed three waiters. A very talkative, young man, obviously of Turkish origin, who had the whole shop alone one evening due to outages and just ran, but he still kept calm. A young lady who knew immediately what I wanted to drink the second I arrived the next day. Another young man, Fred, who was also always friendly and present. One of the bosses doesn't seem friendly to me. He chases his employees around and doesn't serve himself. I observed this closely yesterday evening. The menu is manageable and the food is very good. I liked ordering the melon lime, which is homemade, as it is refreshing and not too sweet. There are either comfortable launches or simple chairs to sit outside, although the tables are simply much too high for some lanches. You feel like you're sitting under the table. If I go on vacation to Hamburg again next year, I'll come back.

We wanted to have a quick drink. We then decided to share a small bottle. The prices border on exorbitant. The ambience is right. But the service seems unmotivated and bored.

We ate there with the family at the weekend. Paid €190 for 4 dishes plus a salad plate and drinks. The food was ok, but totally overpriced. If it had really tasted great it would have been ok but not for it was ok!!! The staff was very friendly, but apparently a €10 tip wasn't enough because our waitress left offended without saying goodbye etc.! But I think you pay for the location! We ate there again today, but unfortunately the same situation again. Conclusion for us: Overpriced and not very tasty. A pity!!! Today we paid €175!!!

We haven't been here for a long time and were surprised at the extreme prices. The drink prices are just ridiculously expensive. Even though it's a nice cafe and located in downtown Hamburg, that doesn't justify paying 13 EUR for a simple white wine or almost 7 euros for a coffee. By the way, the prices on the memory card stored on the site are no longer correct. A pity. Then no more for now.

There are four of the staff running around or standing around looking into the air; when they try to draw attention to themselves, they are skillfully ignored. We left after 10 minutes. Arrogant staff

The waiter, who looks like someone from Bangladesh, cheated us by demanding €33.90 when paying. We rounded up to €35. When we asked for the bill, the crook got restless and brought it to us and quickly disappeared again. The amount on the bill was €30.90 Just ridiculous & extremely cheap. Apart from that, you pay €7 for a cappuccino and you don't even get water with it. With water it was €11. I advise against this place. Tourist trap.

Very nice restaurant. Outside (below) you can sit nicely by the water. The front seats are a bit noisy (because of the water flow). Inside, outside (upstairs) you can also sit very nicely. The food was very tasty - and quick too. Service was very friendly.

Very friendly staff. Class service. Delicious food. A lovely evening with the family. Price performance, for the location, fits. Lovely again.

After the reopening, unfortunately it's not so nice anymore. Run-of-the-mill setup like Poco. But there is a two star deduction for the unusual drink prices. 0.2 l soft drink 4.90 euros, 1/4 l water 4.80 euros. For me it has become a pure tourist trap.

The rain drove us in here and we didn't regret it. You have to go up to the balconies, it's really romantic there with a view of the locks. The service was attentive and nice. The prices are absolutely within reason. It's a good place to take a short break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Thank you for the service!

It's an outdoor restaurant by the canal with amazing views and the breakfast is amazing. I was served by quite welcoming gent named Mohammad and he made sure i am well fed and taken care of and speaks proper english too.

Cafe Melange - Just say you love it. Our server Eden brought our food hot and our beverages cold, the exact way we like it. As we sat there we watched several boats operate the locks in the canal directly in front of us. We ordered the Fischbrötchen and veal schnitzel. One drink, a glass of wine, one Coca Cola. 91 euros A little pricey but we will long remember the Fischbrotchen the money is already forgotten. Live a little and consider yourself lucky if Eden is your server.

Beautifully located on the Fleet. There is an outdoor area on the Fleet and also above. Service nice. Breakfast: rolls, eggs, bacon...all good. We have already had lunch here and found it to be good too. Of course, it's particularly nice to sit outside in the sunshine. Supplement May 2024, afternoon: Service really nice. Wiener Schnitzel very good. However, the fried potatoes could have been a little crispier. The Kaiserschmarrn was not for me. Unfortunately too greasy and little taste. The location is of course great (you're happy to pay for it :-))

The service is underground. I am alone here, this second. Sunny day 28°C and I take a seat at a table, then the waiter comes and tells me very rudely that I have to take a seat at the small table in the aisle because there is a table for four. Ok... I'll change places and sit in the blazing sun. I order an apple strudel which is placed on my table after what feels like 2 minutes, I eat half of the half-heartedly warmed up apple strudel, it has been sitting on the table half-eaten for 10 minutes now. Keller sits behind me and smokes his cigarette in peace and chats with his colleague. I'll go in now to pay and definitely won't come back. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone either. 2 stars only for location.

Very tasty food! I can only judge the ambience for the outdoor dining area. But there you sit right next to the town hall with a beautiful view of the neighboring Fleet.

40€ for a breakfast including 1 coffee and a passion fruit spritzer with baked rolls, a cracked egg and a quarter of a diced apple as a fruit bowl is not justified. The whole thing with a bunch of cutlery thrown together didn't deserve a star for me. However, the view was beautiful. The egg that was complained about was commented on by the waiter with the words “but it’s an egg.”

Drank the most beautiful cappuccino I've ever been served!

I've been going to Melange for 17 years but today was the last time I was seen there! The food and drinks as well as the service are always good. But after I had to pay €6.50 for a small cappuccino today and my girlfriend had to pay €7.40 for a glass of tea, the melange love was over. Nice shop, yes everything has become more expensive, but that was too much of a good thing! It's a real shame, but these exorbitant prices really don't work at all!

Unfortunately, I and my friends didn't have a great stay there. When I tipped around 15 percent and wanted to make a small criticism about the cleanliness, I was simply ignored. It's a shame that even if you're friendly, you're treated like that. I would invest a damp cloth and 20 seconds of time in the future of my restaurant. You can and must be able to expect a clean table.

The “location” with a view of the Hamburg Rathausmarkt diagonally opposite and in extension to the Alster arcades and the “Galeria” passage to the Große Bleichen is and remains for me simply unsurpassed.

We were relegated to our outside seat for a “larger” group because we were apparently just “having a coffee,” said the waitress. My girlfriend and I wanted to have a relaxed breakfast there. We were then advised to look for a seat on the balcony and the menu cards were handed to us. Halfway through we were asked “Hey girls” and told us that the cards were also available at the table. There was no room left so we left pissed. Not worth recommending.

Unfortunately, the Melange Café in Hamburg disappointed us despite our anticipation of cheesecake. Although the service was quick, it lacked friendliness. The prices shocked us, especially 6.50 euros for cheesecake and 5 euros for tea seemed excessive to us. The products tasted good, but this did not justify the high prices. The unpleasant situation when other guests questioned the price and the waiter reacted irritably did not contribute to the pleasant atmosphere. We won't be back, but will take this with us as an experience.

Anyone who goes here comes because of the location... right on the canal, with a view of the lock and not far from Neuer Wall. That's really great. The service staff are attentive and friendly. I wouldn't come here for the food. The breakfast is expensive, but only offers classic hotel standard goods. The typical small packages that are everywhere. Cheese and sausage were also standard - every Edeka can do it better. No problem if breakfast cost 10 euros and not almost twice as much. The scrambled eggs were also served on a chilled plate. And of course it was already cold when it arrived at the place. We paid 100 euros for breakfast for 4 people with some coffee, water and apple spritzer. As I said, you pay for the location.

We visited this restaurant early for breakfast and to celebrate a birthday. The breakfast was okay, but the hollandaise sauce was terrible, it was just like mayonnaise. However, the service was friendly and the view from the restaurant was beautiful. Overall, a mixed experience.

Nice ambience right on the water, although there were only a few guests, the service was a bit slow. Coffee and cake were brought with a time difference of at least five minutes, which is of course suboptimal.

Haben eine Stunde gebraucht um das Frühstück zu bringen. Dennoch guter Service und letztendlich haben sie ohne vorherigen Kommentar den Fehler zugegeben und uns auf den Kaffee eingeladen. Gut die Kurve gekriegt.. schöner Tisch und der Kellner hat das ganze noch abgerundet.

Das Frühstück war ok aber der Cafe au laut mit 6,50 € überteuert. Dass man dann auf der Toilette noch gebeten wird 0,50 € Trinkgeld zu geben finde ich bei den Kosten einfach frech.
