Café Mélange in Hamburg

We have never experienced anything like this! Not only was the service unfriendly, we immediately noticed the unhygienic conditions. A waiter who sneezes into his hand and then touches the dishes, a sink and a kitchen that was so disgustingly drunk that you were afraid of catching something. The highlight were the toilets. The toilet brushes were so full of debris that the entire women's toilet really smelled awful. There was a cleaner sitting in front of it who also held out her hand for this non-existent service. Come back! We left the restaurant immediately.

Way too expensive for what you get

Excellent address...just came in for a drink and came out 3 hours later having eaten very well. Top cuisine and very pleasant service.

It has a good atmosphere and is in a nice location, it has an outdoor terrace and they take time to serve you, prices are high

We were there today with our family and wanted to warm up with some hot drinks. Since there were no free seats inside, we sat outside and waited to be served. After 15 minutes our fire went out and when we asked the young man with the piercing to get us some hot drinks and relight the fire (it was very cold), he got annoyed and said that we had no patience. After we told him that we were just very cold, he canceled our order and told us to leave! That was very unprofessional.

A really good restaurant! The food is exceptionally tasty and the portions are generous. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Every time we are served by the same nice person and feel very well looked after at Mélange.

Excellent service, especially from Mohamed! My wife and I come here every time we are downtown. Mohamed shines with his extremely friendly and polite, but at the same time “friendly” and “family” manner and always radiates positivity and a good mood. A true role model!

My girlfriend and I went to Melange for something to eat and drink yesterday and we absolutely loved it from the start. The service we had was extremely friendly and very attentive and the location was beautiful and the food was delicious and freshly prepared. Thanks to the service, our visit was an absolute experience. We wanted to tip more, but the gentleman said it was too much and politely declined. Rarely have we met such a great person. In short: the children were thirsty, it was cold and we wanted a quick coffee, cocoa and tea. In the immediate vicinity of the town hall if you don't want to go to the American coffee house chain. Drinks were ok, nothing more, nothing less. Service, apart from the impossible toilet attendant, was rather reserved. Higher prices for the quality offered.

Very chilled and beautifully decorated cafe. The balcony is recommended, even if it is cold. However, warm blankets and radiant heaters are available. What I liked best was Mohamed's service. Super friendly, attentive and quick. Ask whether and in which area he is on duty 😉 Oh yes, the food is also very good. Portion larger than expected. Clear recommendation!

Actually everything is good, only the prices are way too high, the demolition is perfect. I ordered a hot chocolate without cream (cheaper) and received it with cream. Ordered apple strudel without cream and with it. The price difference is comparatively high... Never again, don't let me get ripped off a second time.

Was in the city today for a cappuccino at Café Melange. Really all the employees were very friendly and attentive. The cappuccino was delicious and I certainly had the prettiest swan on my milk foam yet. However, the prices are tough: €6.70 for a cappuccino... is probably because of the location and because many tourists go there.

I left after 10 minutes after being neither served nor looked at. Apparently no greeting was to be expected anyway. For such an overpriced restaurant, it would at least be appropriate to hire competent waiters!

2 cakes, 1 cup of tea and 1 cup of coffee costs over 30 euros. In my opinion, cakes are cheap finished products. There were only 3 different cakes to choose from. Very narrow seating. Total demolition. Not recommended.

Rip off. Two cups of coffee and two older pieces of apple strudel for €40.20. All of this in a cold draft. The waitress could work better at the fish market. In summary, a total failure.

The café and restaurant Mélange has a great location on Neuer Wall and there is nice outdoor seating. For dinner I ordered vegan spaghetti Bolognese and a lemonade with Blue Curacao. Both were very, very tasty. I can especially recommend the vegan Bolognese, which is prepared with vegetables. I was served very nicely by Ricardo, who was very attentive. There is also enough choice for vegans and vegetarians. The prices are a little higher, but the food is delicious, the seating is comfortable and the service is very attentive.

Cappuccino mediocre, price overpriced and not justified. Ambience nice. However, the waiter really bothered me because he was very stressed and you could tell he was annoyed. We had to wait a long time before we could place the order and it also took a long time to pay.

Overpriced and tiny, thin pizza - the price-performance ratio is not right at all! I've never experienced anything like this in Germany: a waiter deliberately made us wait while paying because the tip was "too little". Our bill was 86.30 euros for four cups of coffee with milk, a small juice spritzer, a Margherita pizza, spaghetti with tomato sauce and a Kaiserschmarrn. I stated that I wanted to pay 87 euros, but the payment initially failed. I waited patiently and even showed understanding because there were many guests there. The waiter spoke of an alleged "signal error", looked for a signal, but first served all the other tables and still didn't come to us. When I went to him specifically and asked if the signal was better there, he actually said that he had intentionally kept us waiting because the tip was too low. From that moment on it was completely unacceptable. I would have preferred not to tip a cent at all! Stay away from this cafe! There are so many great restaurants and cafes that are super friendly and don't put any extra pressure on their guests.

Everything is nice but absolutely not worth the price. Water is more expensive than an Alster.

I really can't recommend a café that treats its guests according to their mood to anyone. When we were there, three four-person tables were only occupied by two women, and another four-person table only had one man. Nevertheless, we were asked to change our table - even though many tables were free. The same rules should apply to all guests. Hamburg has many better cafes that also take customer satisfaction seriously. The low reviews here should have warned us: the bad-tempered employees, who apparently find it normal to treat customers rudely, will not be good for the store in the long term.

We made a spontaneous stopover yesterday. The cafe is beautifully located and the view is very convincing. We found the service very good and responded flexibly to our requests. We found the blonde service lady particularly friendly, unfortunately I don't know her name. The prices are already high, so there is a point deduction. But the Kaiserschmarn was very tasty and we can't complain about the quality of the drinks either. We had a nice time in the cafe.

Nicely located, you can sit comfortably outside even in cool weather. The service is very friendly and the food is very good. We liked it.

I have no idea why this place rating is low. Our experience was superb from start to finish (& im fussy). Both waiting staff were very friendly, offered suggestions, made sure we are warm on the terrace and checked on us. We went for lunch, the breakfast menu seemed delicious but couldn’t order as it was past the time, If you’re. Vegan or vegetarian, this place has plenty of options for us which has been a struggle in other venues in Hamburg & not surprising as I know they like their meat 😊 (and that’s ok, to each their own). As soon as our food arrived, my colleague’s reaction to the first bite was “oh my god, so tasty!” And I had the same reaction for my truffle pasta. Café located on a street, quite busy due to the passage to the other houses/shops. The service was solid, but the prices were almost on par with Dubai… An Aperol for €11.80 A 0.5 liter beer for €8.00 I decided not to order the Averna with ice cubes and a slice of lemon for just €9.30…

The prices are cheeky here. A 0.2 Cola or Fanta for €5.80 is usury. And the service also leaves a lot to be desired.

Food is average but the price you pay is because of the location. The menu card prices are not updated and so is the case on website. A simple coffee and cake, which can taste and serve very well in other spots, is overpriced. Unfortunately the experience wasn’t as we thought and I ll not recommend.

A nice place to have a coffee. Our waiter Ricardo was extremely personable, accommodating and really put us in a good mood. We would love to come back on the next shopping tour!

Unfortunately the service was very bad. We waited forever until a waiter came who never showed up again after we received the drinks. We went to the counter to pay because no waiter came. It has to be said that the restaurant was not full at the time and the waiters were therefore not overworked. There were only 3 tables occupied outside. With a bill of €19.80 for two small drinks, we rounded up to €20, whereupon the waiter became really rude and laughed loudly about it to embarrass us. I don't pay big tips for bad service and overpriced drinks! We felt very uncomfortable in this restaurant

We were at Melange on Sunday lunchtime. The location is great, and when the sun made it to our table it was cozy too. Until then we used the blankets that were provided. We were irritated when two employees started cleaning a window at arm's length from us! At this price level that's not possible. A few hundred meters further I would have expected that this long-lasting action would develop into a relevant show - completely inappropriate and due to the activity - well, clean floor-to-ceiling windows and you'll know what I mean... The food was okay, the prices were overpriced. Some guests left after seeing the menu. Our waitress Eden was positive. Fast, friendly, relaxed and yet professional and unobtrusive. It was a pleasure to watch her take care of the guests. She was definitely the best part of our visit. Many thanks to them!!!

Simply incredibly expensive! Coffee and cake are actually quite good, but almost €7 for a latte macchiato is not possible! Even a cappuccino costs €6.70, and you can only call for something like that because a lot of tourists seem to fall into the trap of the good location

Breakfast mediocre. The toasted avocado bread was dripping with fat and unfortunately that taste predominated. Service up on the balcony was rarely seen and wasn't particularly friendly either. We ended up going downstairs to pay because no one came and asked if we wanted to order anything else. Maybe better to sit outside downstairs

Cafe is located right in the city on the small Alster. You can actually sit very well. The store is clean, including the toilets. The coffee was good, as was the cake. Service was also good, price was a bit expensive. But the view makes up for it.

Had to wait 50 minutes for our pasta. And then the food didn't arrive together. And best of all, we were charged 25 euros too much! Did not show the invoice in advance and only calculated it after leaving and then noticed that far too much had been charged. Beware of these rip-offs.

Wir waren zum Frühstück da und waren alle 4 sehr begeistert. Ein kleiner Verbesserungsvorschlag wäre, dass die Brötchen gerne bei dem hochwertigen Frühstück die gleiche Qualität aufweisen. Wir saßen bei strahlendem Sonnenschein auf der Terrasse. Dort wäre es schön gewesen etwas mehr Platz an den Tischen zu haben. Der Service war der beste den ich seit langem erlebt habe. Obwohl es sehr voll war und lange warten mussten, wurden wir stets auf den aktuellen Stand gebracht. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder. Die Neueröffnung ist gelungen und auch der Umbau sieht hochwertig aus und die Bestuhlung sehr einladend und bequem.

**Café Melange, Hamburg** After a shopping trip with my daughter, we visited Café Melange. The ambience was really nice – a great view of the water, the town hall and the arcades. Unfortunately, the culinary experience was not convincing. The bruschetta could have been prepared much better and the prices were simply exorbitant. A small juice spritzer already cost over 5 euros, and other drinks were also very expensive. The service was OK, but not particularly outstanding. The only really positive thing was the wonderful view. Otherwise, I was a bit disappointed by the increased prices and the overall package.

We had a really amazing experience at this restaurant, with the most delicious pasta! Eden was our server and she was so incredibly lovely. Very knowledgeable about the menu and patient while we were indecisive (lol). I definitely recommend visiting this restaurant, and would be back should we return to Hamburg in the future.

We were there recently for breakfast. Little Kerner, about 40 years old. Pakistanis or Afghans. . It was simply impossible.🙈🙈🙈 He was so cheeky! I haven't been there for a very long time. After ordering, I asked the waiter nicely if I could take a quick look at the menu. He said that's not good Because if he brings drinks and I could get them dirty.😳 It's about an ancient, pretty broken piece of paper! The man should have laminated it long ago or replaced it. He also said that according to the boss's instructions you are not allowed to do that.😁😳😳 I've never experienced anything like this before. Really! Such a waiter should be terminated without notice. They have no place in a job like this. This is just a shame for the store. I couldn't even properly look at the contents of the menu or drinks. Especially, even after the Inquire about prices. The prices are just horrible in this cafe❗️❗️❗️ For 7-euro coffee, you can afford the same in a five-star hotel Four Seasons, Atlantic or Fontanay. With fantastic ambience, service and views of the Alster in the Fontenay terrace. The waiter was so annoying... He's really spoiled our good mood. After such a terrible experience, I didn't leave him a cent as a tip. I actually never do that. He then complained so loudly to his colleague. So loud that not only we but also other guests noticed it. I will never go there again. That's already clear. Although, the location is nice. But, not under such conditions. Save your time and money... By the way, breakfast was also very modest and unpleasant… As I said, for the same money you can have breakfast at the Condi in the Four Seasons or Fontanay. Was there a week ago. Lunch on the terrace. I ordered a caprese salad and a glass of white wine! So when I asked for water, I got the answer: No problem, I'll give you the staff water, it's free!???🤔 What kind of speech are you supposed to make?? Admittedly, the tables were occupied and he was alone with a "newbie"!! But that doesn't work. Still gave him 18 euros tip on a 38 euros bill!!

Service was rude. We left too. Upon arrival, I checked in with an attendant for a table for two. He showed us a table, but it had not yet been cleaned. No problem, I thought. That will be cleaned immediately. But not. When I asked for the attention of someone serving, he explained to us that we should not have sat at a dirty table. When I explained to him that his colleague had shown us this table, he responded that this was not possible, otherwise the table would have been clean. He then cleared the table, but tilted a milk jug, causing milk to spill onto my partner's shoe, saying that this wouldn't have happened if we hadn't been there. My partner became irritated by this course of action. Then the immediate response was that my partner's behavior was inappropriate and that we were not welcome and the dishcloth was thrown on the table. My partner asked for the manager, but we were laughed at. I apologized a few times for apparently being seated at the wrong table, which we had been assigned. Not once did the wait staff apologize for the manner of clearing the table, spilling milk, the entire course of events. This is very unfortunate.

Nice café near the Hamburg town hall 😊 We were there during the afternoon during the week and got a seat outside without any problem 👍 The menu had a large selection, there were also a few vegetarian/vegan options. You could also have breakfast there, with a larger selection! I was able to get my café with Hafermlich without any problems, the service was super nice, the food/drinks came quickly and sitting outside was also good because we were sitting right on the canal 😊

The day was actually doomed to failure thanks to the bad weather in Hamburg, BUT our waitress Riccardo created such a good atmosphere. A real win for the café/restaurant. Bright spot of the day! Plus: great food. As a vegan you will also get your money's worth there. Great location. Human and animal friendly! 🏳️‍🌈 🐕 Love 🫶 us!

Restaurant that apparently doesn't like French people. We had to endure a few remarks about arrogant French people from a haughty waiter! First restaurant like this in Germany! Bad atmosphere and expensive, I strongly advise against it.

We were served by a dark-haired waiter with a nose piercing. he asked us if we wanted a map in English, we asked him if it was possible in French. He came back 10 minutes later insulting us, telling us that the French were arrogant and asking us why in Germany we would find a map in French. The hospitality and friendliness of this waiter should be avoided, he must be fired! Warning to French to avoid, no respect! It's not a typical restaurant and very expensive, not to mention being insulted by arrogant French people!!

The waiters were rude: one waiter called us “arrogant” people but apparently that should be “a French thing.” The food is overpriced for not much. I do not recommend at all.

Tourist place with prices and VERY touristy service... When the waiter demanded a tip and I told him no because German law required that prices include VAT and tip, he literally started yelling at me above "WARUM NICHT? WAR ES NICHT GUT?" He took my bank card from my hands, scanned it and threw it in my face... You have been warned... Never had this in Germany...

The short older southern asian/indian server was really rude. He didn't give proper information about payment and when he did finally he did in a derogatory manner. I was waving him for like 10 minutes ,he didn't pay attention the other server had to tell him: Hello,those people want to pay! The total experience was really awkward and he was really unprofessional!

Very bad experience. You quickly pay 35 euros per person for breakfast and get cold scrambled eggs with half a tomato and measly coffee. Fair enough because expensive location. But some of the staff were extremely unfriendly. A gentleman upstairs was OK. But in particular the gentleman with a bald head and earrings outside who (among other things) asked an 85-year-old lady (guest) why she was walking so slowly because his tray was apparently too heavy for him. I find it difficult to even call this a service. The store should think about new staff, and the employee should think about a new job that has nothing to do with service. Maybe Telekom call center... I definitely won't come back and I'll advise everyone against it.

The waitress always served me very friendly and was always present. I particularly noticed three waiters. A very talkative, young man, obviously of Turkish origin, who had the whole shop alone one evening due to outages and just ran, but he still kept calm. A young lady who knew immediately what I wanted to drink the second I arrived the next day. Another young man, Fred, who was also always friendly and present. One of the bosses doesn't seem friendly to me. He chases his employees around and doesn't serve himself. I observed this closely yesterday evening. The menu is manageable and the food is very good. I liked ordering the melon lime, which is homemade, as it is refreshing and not too sweet. There are either comfortable launches or simple chairs to sit outside, although the tables are simply much too high for some lanches. You feel like you're sitting under the table. If I go on vacation to Hamburg again next year, I'll come back.

We wanted to have a quick drink. We then decided to share a small bottle. The prices border on exorbitant. The ambience is right. But the service seems unmotivated and bored.

We ate there with the family at the weekend. Paid €190 for 4 dishes plus a salad plate and drinks. The food was ok, but totally overpriced. If it had really tasted great it would have been ok but not for it was ok!!! The staff was very friendly, but apparently a €10 tip wasn't enough because our waitress left offended without saying goodbye etc.! But I think you pay for the location! We ate there again today, but unfortunately the same situation again. Conclusion for us: Overpriced and not very tasty. A pity!!! Today we paid €175!!!

We haven't been here for a long time and were surprised at the extreme prices. The drink prices are just ridiculously expensive. Even though it's a nice cafe and located in downtown Hamburg, that doesn't justify paying 13 EUR for a simple white wine or almost 7 euros for a coffee. By the way, the prices on the memory card stored on the site are no longer correct. A pity. Then no more for now.

There are four of the staff running around or standing around looking into the air; when they try to draw attention to themselves, they are skillfully ignored. We left after 10 minutes. Arrogant staff

The waiter, who looks like someone from Bangladesh, cheated us by demanding €33.90 when paying. We rounded up to €35. When we asked for the bill, the crook got restless and brought it to us and quickly disappeared again. The amount on the bill was €30.90 Just ridiculous & extremely cheap. Apart from that, you pay €7 for a cappuccino and you don't even get water with it. With water it was €11. I advise against this place. Tourist trap.

Very nice restaurant. Outside (below) you can sit nicely by the water. The front seats are a bit noisy (because of the water flow). Inside, outside (upstairs) you can also sit very nicely. The food was very tasty - and quick too. Service was very friendly.

Long waiting times!!! Unfortunately, when the Kaiserschmarrn was finally served, our coffee was cold😟
