Café am Neuen See in Berlin

Six of us arrived in the morning without a reservation and found a table without any problems. The food arrived surprisingly quickly and we enjoyed it immensely. We particularly liked the bread station, where you can help yourself to fresh bread and butter – a lovely addition to breakfast. The only downside was the heavy wasp infestation on the terrace, which somewhat spoiled our comfortable seating. In summary: A beautiful spot by the water, good food, and fast service – with a little patience for the wasps, it's absolutely recommended.

Despite opening hours until midnight, the "last round" was announced as early as 10 p.m. The service was unfriendly: When we asked for a wine tasting, the waiter replied "reluctantly." We had to get the sugar and blanket ourselves. When paying, he made a derogatory comment because we deliberately didn't want to tip due to the poor service: "Bad choice." Overall, a very disappointing visit.

We were there one evening in July and just had a few drinks and enjoyed the lovely atmosphere – relaxed people, the forest, and of course, the lake. 🤩 Simply a fantastic place to spend a pleasant and sociable time in the countryside! Self-service in the beer garden was very straightforward, also thanks to the well-coordinated and friendly bar staff.

Beware of tip scams!!! This place is great and I highly recommend it. The staff is very friendly and helpful, except for one server who tried to scam us when paying by card. During checkout, he often asks if you want to add a tip of 10, 15, or 20% of the bill, but you can also choose not to tip anything. When paying with this server, he only mentioned the price of the meal. It was when I asked for a receipt that I saw he had added 10%!!! I asked him if the service charge wasn't included in the price displayed, and, taking me for a fool, he said yes, it was, showing me the extra 10% on the bill. After some discussion, he asked me if I wanted him to refund the 10%. I said yes because if I wanted to tip, it's up to me to choose, not for him to automatically add it without saying anything!!! He refunded me in cash and without any apology...so I assume this is a common practice on his part...so be careful!!!

In such a great atmosphere, unfortunately, the service was very poor. It wasn't possible to try the wine. I didn't want a glass, just a small sip. As someone who works in the service department myself, I know how much guests appreciate that. And usually, they're more likely to buy the wine and are more convinced. Instead, I was just told what it tasted like. Unfortunately, as a non-wine connoisseur, that doesn't help me at all. I had also ordered a tablecloth, but it never arrived. So I went and got it myself. The same thing happened with the sugar for the latte. The sweet wine was out. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have more in reserve. The beginning was unfriendly: no menu, no greeting, just a "little beer?" When we paid, we were told that we had made the "worst choice" by not tipping. After the service, I'm honestly not surprised at all. Oh, and then: From 10 p.m. onward, they said there was only one drink available. But at 10:40 PM, there was suddenly another "final round." Quite contradictory.

We were at the restaurant on August 22nd, 2025 with 15 people and tried our way through the menu - everything was delicious, the service was attentive and friendly, and we would be happy to go back anytime!

Nice beer garden, but the food wasn't good. The tomatoes were past their best and were drenched in vinegar, making the whole salad pretty inedible, but the halloumi was very well grilled. The ham was juicy, but the skin wasn't crispy anywhere, and the potato salad came from a bucket, and not the best. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was very pleasant.

I come here every now and then. Often with family and friends. We've also celebrated our Christmas party here several times with about 16 colleagues and friends. The ambiance is outstanding and very nice, although it can get a bit hectic and loud. The food ranges between 7 and 9 out of 10. The Christmas goose has always been a 10/10. It's a bit of a crowd-pleaser, which you can sense from the staff.

14 euros for a "pizza" like that is just cheeky, no matter how nice the ambiance is.

We went there for breakfast. It was fantastic. The whole place was packed, but we were still taken care of with such attentiveness. No one was stressed; there was a great team spirit among the colleagues. The food was top-quality. We'd love to come back.

This place should be boycotted! Last Sunday, I witnessed a waiter with short hair yelling at another employee and deliberately throwing a plate on the floor to reprimand her. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable and should not be supported! The man must be fired.

Typical cuisine, relaxed atmosphere...a really nice place

At first glance you don't see that there are actually two cafes inside for food and drinks although you can also eat outside - it's self service there.

Anyone who remembers this place from the past should give it a wide berth. As a reminder: A small house with large panoramic windows, illuminated by real candelabras in the darker months, so idyllic. In front of it, the lake with the boat rental and a manageable number of tables and chairs along the lakeshore. Once upon a time... Now only crowds, noise and dust, and the seemingly inevitable constant music. If you like it, I certainly don't.

We have ordered sufficient amount of food and drinks but when we asked for tap water for one of us to take some medication, the waiter told us we have to order an over-priced bottled water (€7.50 before tax!) Service was poor with careless ( though friendly) waiter who created a mess AND mixed up orders for us as well as for the table next to us. Cafe am Neuen See before their big renovation (and perhaps change of management) was far better than it is today. We would not have gone in there and wasted money and time if it wasn't a Monday (beer garden outside was closed and it was about to rain).

The spacious, winding beer garden in the heart of the Tiergarten park, right on the Neuer See, is wonderfully idyllic and, on sunny days, practically heavenly. From beer to homemade lemonade to Spritz, from Leberkäse (a kind of meatloaf) to salads to pizza, a more than solid selection is offered at the self-service counters. And if you're feeling up to it, you can take a short stroll along the lake or rent a rowboat. Admittedly, the prices aren't exactly cheap, but that's probably to be expected when the location offers such a gem.

Excellently organized, with promptly poured beer and full glasses. Self-service for drinks and snacks. The pricing filters out bar-goers, and the place is dominated by the after-work gathering of the well-to-do. Few tourists. Pleasant atmosphere in a pleasant ambiance. It's perfect, weather permitting.

The ordering system is too complicated (water on the left, Aperol on the far right), and you have to queue somewhere else for each meal. Next time, we'd rather go inside the restaurant. The atmosphere is great, though.

Today, on my way to the cafe, I ordered a piece of blueberry cake (blaubeeren)... unfortunately, I found mold on my fruit (the photo shows it). I quickly notified the waiters, kindly showing them the mold. They took the cake away from me, and then offered me if I wanted another piece. I agreed to take another variety... but no real apology was offered. I didn't pay for the moldy piece, but the other one was charged. I would have liked an apology, which I didn't receive, and a discount or a gesture of goodwill... I took a single bite of the moldy cake before realizing it; the picture speaks for itself... and unfortunately, I have digestive symptoms. It's a real shame because the place is very pretty; I'd already been there once before and had a better experience. I ask the establishment to pay more attention to its fruit cakes and the freshness of the products... mistakes can happen but it's a bit serious for catering and I hope that they will subsequently pay more attention... also to customer satisfaction in such cases.

As always, the beer garden is a beautiful oasis in the city. Despite the mild summer evening and the crowds, everything was quickly available through the self-service service. The pizza was freshly prepared. The shandy, cheesecake, and salami pizza were all great! See you next time 🍻

The food and ambience are amazing. The main dampner was the service: It was really bad, we asked for the staff to take order multiple times but no one came while tending to other tables continuously. Finally after waiting for long to give another order after having food, we decided to call it a day and leave.

It's not a particularly delicious restaurant and beer garden, but it's a comfortable, spacious space in the park where you can choose your seat, making it a relaxing space.

This place will never disappoint you . It’s excellent to spend time with friends and family. Never lacking space , Once it’s dark the ambience is amazing due to the lights . The small lake with the boats make it more serene to sit and enjoy the biers. The cafe‘s food and hospitality is something always to look forward to. I never miss an opportunity to be here and make the most of it .

You pay for the location, the quality left a lot to be desired, and the service was unfortunately a bit lackluster. Too expensive for that... Scrambled eggs from a tetra pack for €8.50? No thanks.

We were in the café's beer garden. First, we noticed the dirty trays, then the greasy, unappetizing food (unpeeled fried potatoes, quark with oil instead of rosemary, and salad reminiscent of pre-packaged supermarket produce). Apart from the surroundings, it was just annoying.

Very nice location on the edge of the Tiergarten, but...😪, the beer garden is dingy (try Zenner). The meatloaf is overpriced and cold, the food is like junk food, and overall the prices and service are disproportionate. The operators are obviously relying solely on the good location... oh well...

We went to the Café am Neuen See with our little daughter for dinner this weekend. The location is really nice, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Unfortunately, the server had trouble entering our order, so we still didn't have any food after an hour. This isn't ideal when you're there with a toddler who doesn't have the patience to sit quietly at the table for two hours. When I pointed out after an hour that we hadn't received our food yet, I was left with the information that it was coming soon. I'm quite sure it was only then that it was being prepared. After an hour and 15 minutes, we finally had our order. We were then offered a drink as "compensation," which we gratefully accepted but never received. :D Overall, the value for money was unfortunately a bit poor. The food wasn't bad, but we both didn't get full from one main course, and the total for two people was €65. Even though we only ordered two Cokes, along with the dishes: one chicken with a side dish and one tarte flambée. Overall, I would rate the restaurant as very nice based on its appearance, but somewhat disorganized based on its service. Unfortunately, the value for money isn't right.

A fantastic place with a stunning view of the countryside and the water. Delicious food and excellent service. I'm deducting a star for the service because it took a while for the food and drinks to arrive at the table, even though the place was only half full by then.

One of the best beer gardens in Berlin

It´s interesting how you can have a 5 star and a 1 star experience in the same day. This one was my 1 star experience. Came to this biergarten with friends. Of course we ordered a drink and, because I felt relatively hungry, I ordered a pizza. It wasn´t an easy choice among all the overpriced dishes (about 13 euros for a salad!!), but in the end I thought perhaps 12,80 euro pizza will be a good choice. Unfortunately, the pizza resembled light cardboard with 4 slices of tomato on top. It wasn´t even a Margherita cos there was no cheese in sight. In the end, a complete rip off where you get something you shouldn´t even call a pizza for 12,80 euros. So, my drink was a "homemade orange lemonade". For 4,80 euros and with the word "homemade" I was hoping for something tasty. Well, homemade basically means that the syrup they diluted with water was done at home, rather than somewhere else. So, an orange lemonade that didn´t taste of orange, but rather something made in a lab. To summarize, if you feel like doing some charity, maybe go somewhere they will use the money to improve their offer, rather than paying a lot of money for a substandard food and drinks. This was SO bad, that I cannot tell you where in Berlin you can have it worse, and I live here. if I could give 0 stars, I would.

The place is fine, the food wasn't bad, but it's expensive for what you get: entrecote for two with a side of vegetables 52 + 16 for the (few) vegetables. You order a dark beer or similar, and they don't have any, only lagers (are they called biergarden?). On top of that, when they charged us, they didn't give us a receipt, just a payment terminal and a tip... in the end, the joke was very expensive for what we got.

We wanted pizza, but changed our minds when the pizza cutter fell on the floor and was immediately used without cleaning. So we quickly switched to Leberkäse (a kind of sausage with meatloaf) – which was unfortunately cold. However, there was plenty of sweet mustard. The ambiance, on the other hand, was truly idyllic, with a lovely seating area. It's a shame about the setting – if the food is better next time, we'll be back.

Really enjoyed it here in the far end of the Tiergarten, really relaxed place with lots of outdoor seating by the lake. A few huge cold beers and a pizza to share. Pizza was thin crust, light and full of flavour. Really enjoyed it.

On August 16th, at around 1:50 p.m., I unfortunately had an unpleasant experience: When I called to inquire about the boat rental opening date, the agent answered the phone somewhat unclearly. When I politely asked for the information to be repeated, he responded in an inappropriate tone, saying something like, "You're not serious, are you?! How many times do I have to say that?" That was a very disappointing customer service experience for me: unprofessional and absolutely disrespectful. I actually didn't want to go back afterward—but in retrospect, I'm very glad I did. Fortunately, the atmosphere on site was different: everyone was friendly, and it really is a very nice spot to rent a small boat.

I went there with my company. The service was very good. The food was okay. A line on the bill was swapped, so the employer didn't accept it. When I asked for a change to the bill, I wrote to the accounting department five times asking for it to be corrected. So far, it still hasn't arrived. Never again. Instead, I'll go to the beer garden where I have to pay myself and don't need an invoice...

It's pretty nice here, except for the smoke clouds. And I don't understand why you can't have orange soda in a glass, but you can have a shandy, and just a portion of fried potatoes, with nothing else.

The place is really expensive imo and since its huge, its self service. But the location is great, the vibes are immaculate, and while you are in Berlin on a sunny day, it's a must visit. The surrounding make up for the price!

This place in Berlin's Tiergarten is very touristy, but on the other hand, very beautiful, considering that it's in a metropolis.

It was Saturday evening, the place was crowded, we were 8, I asked for a beer it took more than 30 minutes to bring the beer, then I asked for the second beer and it has never arrived. The guy serving us, 10 times said he is busy, there are a lot of people, and some more sentences to make us feel uncomfortable from the start. At then end, first he refused to accept separate payments from us, then after complaining he came back with pos-terminal with default +10% tip enabled, without asking us. It was a completely ridiculous experience.

Large beer garden by the new lake. Self-service works very well, but you'll need patience in the service area. The food is actually okay, but in the self-service area, it's practically slapped onto the plate and pushed across the counter, which isn't very appealing, unfortunately.
