Cafe 1900 in Marburg

We have often been satisfied in the past, but after this visit we won't be coming back: an hour wait, wrong food, starter and main course served at the same time, and then spilled drinks on our pants. Unfortunately, the service has deteriorated significantly this time.

Waited 1.5 hours for food (went out to eat at 5 p.m.). Interior is mediocre.

I visit Marburg about twice a year and often end up in this restaurant as it offers an all-round alternative in the upper town. The food always tastes excellent. At the beginning the waitress was a man who seemed very unfriendly, aloof and listless. However, there was a shift change at the top of the hour, which gave us an open-minded, polite, courteous and focused young woman. So everything was fine in terms of service. Unfortunately, it was only when we were paying that we were told that card payments were only possible for orders over €25. The information would have been nice as a sign or verbally at the beginning. Last but not least, it should be noted that some furniture was damaged and some were only temporarily repaired with tape or not repaired at all. Nevertheless, the price-performance ratio is really good for me and that's why I'll come back.

Today we had lunch there with the family on a trip to Marburg. Very friendly service and the menu has a lot to offer. The schnitzels (pork & turkey) are super delicious. Dessert is included in the price. One star less because the potatoes were fried a little too much.

We had dinner there yesterday and I have to say I haven't had such a good schnitzel in a long time. The ribbon noodles were also very tasty and the salad was super fresh. Service was very friendly and the atmosphere was cozy, although a bit cramped for the rush but cozy. We'll go there again, it's definitely worth a visit.

Good service, okay food, good ambience and strong prices. Unfortunately some of the goods are frozen or out of the bucket.

Saturday evening - we were out and about in the upper town. Since it was a little later than planned, we wanted to have dinner there. While walking through the upper town we stopped at Cafe 1900. We were lucky because a table for 4 people just became available. Pretty much everything went wrong that evening: a total of 5 wrong orders (3 out of 4 main courses were completely wrong, 1 out of 2 starters were wrong and even 1 drink was brought wrong). We were not shown any goodwill. Rather an unfriendly waiter who once simply took my food away and replaced it. You weren't asked if you wanted something else to drink. When we ordered, we had to wait longer than was acceptable for our drinks. I'm willing to wait when I eat, but drinks are served quickly. Taste: okay. The casseroles are good, the broccoli cream soup was more of a cream mush. The location is great and it's also a cool atmosphere. However, this restaurant has a very big service deficit. This definitely needs to be improved. Since I have experience in catering myself, I can only recommend urgently training the staff. Mistakes can happen (including multiple faux pas), but rudeness will not be forgiven. That doesn't work at all.

The food - especially the typical Marburg casseroles - is very tasty and inexpensive. The service and atmosphere are also good. BUT: 1. The toilets are an absolute disgrace. 2. and unfortunately this is even worse: the owner insults his guests (one guest had politely complained about the temperature of his schnitzel) and his staff in the worst possible way! He shouts words across the store that I would have to censor here. Something like that doesn't work at all and completely ruined my appetite and good mood. You shouldn't support this person and his restaurants!

An iconic cafe with good beer and cocktails. The service was first class, the prices were ok.

We ate here for the first time today. The restaurant is really highly recommended. Very tasty food at a very reasonable price, and with very friendly service. We will definitely eat here more often.

We went in a little skeptical but hungry and we both opted for a schnitzel and I must say we were surprised. The food eaten is really good, at least those taken, with generous portions and to satisfy you. Together they serve, in addition to the side dish of fried potatoes or rosemary potatoes, a salad and finally dessert, at no additional cost.

Good location, well decorated, the staff was very friendly, and the food was nice and plentiful. Couldn't recommend more.

We often like to go to the 1900 Restaurant. But from now on I will never go there again and I definitely can't recommend it. The quality of the food was good, but the behavior of one of the waitresses was not only unfriendly, but also quite aggressive. When other guests went to our side table, the waitress had to clean everything up and put the menus back in place. This made her so aggressive that she even threw a menu. The table was right next to us and she barely missed us. Normally in this job you should be friendlier and more personable, which we didn't experience this time.

Great location in the pedestrian zone, nice squares, the rest is pretty average. Long waiting time, moderately friendly service, pizza that was certainly not freshly made and a salad with withered leaves. Prices are quite ok. Nevertheless: it doesn't have to be that way anymore.

Delicious stews, schnitzels, pizzas,... The prices are quite cheap for what is on offer. Very comfortable especially in summer. You sit in the pedestrian zone in the old town, enjoy the good food and the hustle and bustle around you.

Great food at an absolutely fair price. Most meals are just between €10-15. We had dinner with 10 people, no one had anything to complain about, very high level of satisfaction.

Food and drinks quality is rather mediocre. Schnitzel is listed on the menu including a side salad and dessert - I didn't get one or the other. Not recommended.

The Café 1900 in Marburg impresses across the board: excellent food, a wide selection of dishes, extremely friendly service and fair prices make it a place that you will enjoy visiting again and again. Whether for breakfast with the family, lunch with colleagues or a relaxed dinner with friends - Café 1900 is always an excellent choice. Highly Recommended!

The food was absolutely excellent. We were there with a larger group and everyone was impressed Eating enthusiastically. Price/performance top. Completely satisfied. The point of criticism remains the unreflective operation, which felt that conversations had to be commented on and evaluated out of context. Very invasive. That spoiled the mood. Orders were also ignored. None of our group would come back. Went somewhere else straight after dinner. Full credit goes to the chef.

We were in town to grab a bite to eat after shopping. We felt very comfortable here in Café 1900. Price performance was very good. The two dishes we had were very good. Veal schnitzel with chanterelles. Vegetable salad. Everything is fresh and the portions are generous even for hungry mouths. :-) With the schnitzel there was a salad (also great) and even a dessert (selectable). All for really little money. Service super friendly. We'll definitely come back.

Super nice staff... Food is super good, at the normal price (e.g. schnitzel pan with croquettes 12.99 euros.) Ambiance is small, suits the old town.

First one of our dishes came out wrong, then after the first complaint it was declared to be correct. Im wrongly delivered But the food was also missing an essential ingredient. The compensation offered (cake) arrived late and frozen with spoiled fruit. We won't go here anymore, even though 3 of the 4 dishes we ordered tasted good and were plentiful.

Not going to lie, I’m not a big fan of any casserole food. But the Auflauf here is phenomenal. I got the Mexican style one, and it’s probably one of the most delicious things I have ever had. Must try if you’re visiting the city

Saturday evening this place was buzzing with activity. All the tables were taken up and we asked to sit at the bar. The service was quick and friendly. We ordered traditional meals. One was a Zigeuner Schnitzel (the best comparison to a warm Salza with a kick in the US) and the second dish was a grilled salmon steak with hollandaise sauce. Served with a fresh salad, potato croquet, and fries. The food was served hot and with a smile. Traditional local fair at its best.

Apart from the beautiful location in Marburg's upper town, the 1900 unfortunately doesn't have much else to offer. It took the waitress half an hour to even bring the menu and then you had to wait another 15 minutes. waiting to order something to drink. The drinks were room temperature and also slightly stale. The food was very poor mediocre. The salad was drowned in the sauce and it wasn't even tasty. So I definitely wouldn't recommend it, you can cook much better at home with the money.

You wait an extremely long time for your order. Wouldn't go here again.

Uns haben die hausgemachten Bandnudeln zum Essen gelockt. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und das Essen (Bandnudeln) war sehr gut. Auch preislich ist das Restaurant sehr zu empfehlen. Mich hat der Lillet Wild Berry für 5,90 € sehr positiv überrascht!

We wanted to eat comfortably in the upper town during the detour to Marburg and since you could sit outside at 1900, we decided to do so. I was initially skeptical about the food, but was impressed by the accompaniment on the menu. We had schnitzel with cream sauce and hunter's sauce. The side salad was generous, but quite tasteless. The schnitzels probably came from the deep fryer and the sauce looked a lot like ready-made sauce. Fries were okay. I also skipped the apple strudel/cheesecake. Less than 10 minutes after leaving the restaurant I had stomach cramps. There was something I couldn't tolerate at all. In terms of taste, the restaurant is not recommended, prices are at the normal level, the service was courteous, quick and polite. But we wouldn't come back because of the food and we're a bit surprised by the mostly good reviews, even though we don't usually eat upscale food.

We were there today with the children. Unfortunately it took over an hour for our food to arrive. The pasta casserole was burnt/black. This is something you have to pay attention to before serving it to a guest. No Go ....We also mentioned it on site. We don't eat there anymore.

The food, service and ambience are really great! We had gypsy schnitzel, chanterelle schnitzel, chicken pan with rice and chicken steak with mushroom sauce. The steak and schnitzels came with a small, beautiful, colorful salad. Everything is fresh and delicious, with the schnitzels you can choose whether pork or turkey. Both were excellent! The portions are really great! The food was beautifully and creatively prepared! The drinks were cold, the toilets were clean! I can definitely recommend Café 1900, we will definitely come back again! Keep it up ! 👍🏻

We had lunch here for lunch. It was very busy, but we had no problem getting a great table. The selection of dishes is very diverse. We both ordered a schnitzel dish (Jägerschnitzel with mushrooms and dark sauce and a cream schnitzel with mushrooms). After the schnitzel, in addition to a salad, there was even a dessert that you could choose at the end. The food overall was fantastic and great value. The service was very friendly and as attentive as is possible in a crowded restaurant. We'd love to come back :-)!

Absolutely PERFECT!!! From all points of view PERFECT. It's my favorite place. Of all the places I've been, this is where I felt the best. Wonderful atmosphere, 10+ service, 10+ food, everything, but absolutely everything only superlative.

One thing first: The food in Café 1900 is very good and, in my opinion, not expensive. BUT it is very crowded at Café 1900 because it is a very small place. There are a lot of people there and it is correspondingly loud. Soundproofing would be a good idea here. It took a long time for us to have our food, even for a pizza. The service was OK. It wouldn't have been a mistake if the waiters had asked every now and then if everything was good, if you wanted anything else, etc. At least the waiters were friendly and did their job. Would I come back now? Yes, because as I said, the food is very good and not yours either. But the place is too full. too loud and the service is just OK.

Surprise visit to Marburg and happened to pass Cafe 1900 and landed!

Very nice and cozy atmosphere. Very friendly service with strong nerves. Very child friendly and pet friendly. The portions are really good, the prices are more than reasonable. You get something for your money here. Beautiful location in the heart of Marburg. The food itself tastes great, looks fresh and high quality and is beautifully prepared. The menu itself has a nice, large selection of different dishes. Also for vegetarians. The toilet could be a little cleaner, and card payments starting at €15 are a bit stupid. So if you're a little hungry, it's best to take cash with you :). Definitely recommended and gladly again! :)

Netter Ort, sehr gemütlich. Gutes Essen und Franziskaner Weißbier vom Fass ( was will man mehr). Kleiner Tipp: etwas weniger Salz würde den Geschmack der Speisen noch verbesserten. Gerne wieder.

I visited this restaurant today. I loved everything. I tried veal and Mexican style casserole (auflauf). They were amazing. The portions were really big. The atmosphere was cozy. They don't have an English menu. There was no wifi connection as well. For your information!

Das Essen, kann man nicht essen, weil es sehr salzig ist. Aber die Service ist sehr GUT!!

Faires Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, super leckere Küche (Auflauf), gemütliches Ambiente, chillige Musik. Nur die Deckenleuchten gehen gar nicht (hässliches Industriedesign, das den gemütlichen Charme der Tischleuchten schmälert)!

Das Essen war wirklich super lecker! - frisch zubereitet und voller Geschmack. Die Atmosphäre war so gemütlich und einladend, dass ich mich sofort wohl fühlte. Die Sauberkeit im Restaurant war beeindruckend, und das Essen wurde mir in Rekordzeit serviert. Aber was den Besuch wirklich besonders gemacht hat, war das unglaublich freundliche und aufmerksame Personal. Ich fühlte mich wie ein geschätzter Gast. Dieses Restaurant ist definitiv ein Ort, den ich gerne wieder besuchen werde. Besonders empfehle ich allen, die scharfes Essen mögen, den "Auflauf Mexicana" zu probieren. Das ist wirklich scharf und ein echtes Geschmackserlebnis! Vielen Dank für diese tolle Erfahrung!

Sehr lecker, Preis-Leistung top, man wird mehr als satt und die Brokkoliröschen für unser Baby wurden nicht mal berechnet! Wir haben uns die Calamari als Vorspeise geteilt (gute Entscheidung, denn allein davon kann eine Person satt werden!) und den Tortellini-Auflauf und Bandnudeln mit Lachs und Spinat (der Teller war riesig, auf dem Foto erscheint das Essen wenig, aber es war mehr als genug!!)

Die hausgemachten Bandnudeln sind sehr empfehlenswert! Und das Personal freundlich und aufmerksam.

Das Essen ist gut. Der Service sehr freundlich. Toilette sauber. Was will man mehr?

Gemütliches und wunderfitziges Lokal in der Marburger Altstadt. Der Brokkoliauflauf war reichlich. Die Preise sind echt günstig. Das Personal sehr freundlich.

Sehr nette Bedienung. Das Essen wirklich gut zu einem fairen Preis. Es wurde für unseren Sohn extra ein Kinderschnitzel gemacht, welches nicht auf der Katte stand und er durfte sich danach noch einen Nachtisch aussuchen. Empfehlung für die Aufläufe. Sehr lecker. Die Toiletten ebenfalls sauber.

Ich habe bisher nur zweimal in meinem Leben Essen zurückgehen lassen… dieses Restaurant war eines davon. Beim ersten Vorbeigehen war das Restaurant noch recht voll und das Essen sah brauchbar aus. Als wir später zurückkamen war es etwas leerer und wir setzten uns ins Lokal. Nach etwa 5 Minuten wurde unsere Getränkebestellung aufgenommen und auch recht bald serviert. Allerdings mussten wir uns erst einmal umsetzen, da der Rauch der Gäste vor dem Lokal recht stark ins Lokal zog. Erste Enttäuschung beim bestellen Ginger Ale, es war so voll mit Eiswürfeln, dass die 0,4 eher 0,25 entsprachen und zudem sprudelte es nicht mehr, war also schon recht lange offen. Essensbestellung wurde nach etwas Wartezeit aufgenommen. In den knapp 20 min bis das Essen in dem nun praktisch leeren Restaurant kam passierte etwas Komisches: Beide Bedienungen verließen das Restaurant und kamen erst nach 15 min wieder und waren in der Zeit auch nicht in der Nähe des Restaurants. Als das Essen kam war dann die Enttäuschung groß. Für 15 Euro kann man kein Weltklasseschnitzel erwarten, aber ein guter Koch bekommt zu dem Preis doch einiges hin… dieser Koch aber nicht. Die Brattkartoffeln waren eher in Fett ertränkte Rosmarinkartoffeln mit teils deutlich schwarzen Stellen und so glasig, dass man teils hindurchsehen konnte. Geschmeckt haben sie seltsamerweise nach absolut nichts. Das Schicksal teilte auch das Schnitzel. Es sollte Kalb sein, aber war so dünn, dass es nicht möglich war es genauer zu identifizieren. Die Panade dürfte gut 75% des Schnitzels ausgemacht haben und offensichtlich war es in der Fritteuse zubereitet worden. Trocken und geschmacklos sind die nettesten Worte dafür. Der Salat war auch eine eher trockene Angelegenheit und auf die inklusive Nachspeise hab ich dann verzichtet. Das Hauptgericht war so ungenießbar, dass ich es nicht weiteressen konnte und zurückgehen lassen musste. Mir wurde Ersatz oder eine Alternativbestellung angeboten, aber angesichts der vierteiligen bisherigen Katastrophe habe ich darauf verzichtet. Der zwischenzeitlich bestellte Kirschsaft war wenigstens guter Durchschnitt, wenn auch nicht wirklich sinnvoll gekühlt. Die Nudeln meiner Freundin waren evtl. tatsächlich hausgemacht, aber zu starr und sämig und auch sie hatten praktisch keinen Geschmack. Der Ziegenkäse hat das Ganze geschmacklich gerettet, aber insgesamt war es eher eine trockene Angelegenheit. Final wurde uns nur ein Essen und zwei von drei Getränken berechnet, was halbwegs fair war. Ich selbst kann recht gut kochen und auch exotischere Speisen zubereiten, aber was ich hier bei eigentlich normalen deutschen Standardgerichten vorgesetzt bekam war recht erschreckend. Im Grunde wurden bei den Gerichten grundlegende Fehler gemacht, die so in einer guten Gastronomie nicht vorkommen dürfen. Leider kann ich das 1900 nicht empfehlen, Den Zustand der Toiletten kann ich nicht beurteilen, da uns das Essen schon gereicht hat und wir schnellstmöglich gehen wollten.

Seit gefühlten 20 Jahren gehen wir dorthin. Immer und immer wieder sehr lecker. Eine riesige Speisekarte, da dürfte für jeden etwas dabei sein. Ich hoffe, dass die ca. 30 Prozent Preiserhöhung bei dem tollen Personal ankommt!

Brokkolicremesuppe war eher eine sahne suppe mit wenig brokkoli einlage. Aufläufe waren okay.

Leckere klassische Marburger Gerichte, sehr freundliches Personal und super Preise!

Hier hat alles gepasst: Tolles Ambiente, leckeres Essen mit anständiger Portionsgröße, sehr gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis und schließlich eine außerordentlich freundliche und zuvorkommende Bedienung.

Preisleistung und Qualität Perfekt Essen kam flot obwohl alles voll war und nur eine Bedienung 👍RESPECT👍 SEHR LECKER 😋und Günstig

Leckeres und vorallem günstiges Essen. Klare Besuchs-Empfehlung. Update: Mein absoluter Favorit ist der "Auflauf Salmone" - ich bevorzuge Nudeln dazu; wahlweise kann man aber auch Reis oder Kartoffeln bekommen, wem dies lieber ist 🙂.

WIr aren mit unseren Kindern da und haben einen Nudelauflauf, eine Schnitzelpfanne und einen Salat mit Halloumi gegesen. Diese Gerichte waren alle sehr lecker und mit frischen Zutaten zubereitet. Ich fand den Service sehr zuvorkommend. Wir wurden schnell bedient und am Ende gefragt, ob wir zufrieden waren. Außerdem wurden unsere Kinder sehr nett behandelt und haben sogar einen Gratis-Nachtisch erhalten. Gerne wieder.

Das Essen ist im Grunde ok, ich ärgere mich aber wenn man im Jahr 2023 immer noch nicht mit Karte zahlen kann. Die haben sogar ein Gerät, nutzen es aber erst ab 25 Euro. Ich nenne das schlechten Service und esse in Zukunft woanders zu Mittag.

Weltklasse essen und super Service. Hat prima geschmeckt, kommen immer gerne vorbei. Besonders der Tortellini Auflauf ist sehr gut.

Die Auswahl unseres Essens war eine Qual der Wahl…..das Ergebnis: recht lecker! Die Servicekräfte sehr freundlich und pfiffig!

Die Mitarbeiterinnen waren sehr nett und unsere Aufläufe haben gut geschmeckt, aber wir haben sehr lange auf unser Essen gewartet und als es kam, war ich recht enttäuscht, denn ich hatte auf das Fleisch verzichtet und mir stattdessen mehr Gemüse gewünscht. Ich bekam dann allerdings die Nudeln mit sehr wenig Gemüse und ziemlich angebrannter Käse-Decke, bezahlt habe ich aber den vollen Preis.
