Great food. Great staff. Beautiful view of Marburg. A window seat is definitely worth it! A very good restaurant, unfortunately the noise level was a bit high due to lots of conversation. But that shows that people feel comfortable here, and that's a good thing! 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

The first order was taken immediately, but unfortunately no one came to our table for more than 40 minutes after we finished eating.

Today we wanted to have breakfast at Basic Kitchen. Unfortunately, it was a complete disaster. We waited quite a while for the server but were eventually able to place our order. The hot drinks arrived relatively quickly. We waited an hour and a half for our breakfast. Yes, it was busy… But when guests who arrived after us received their breakfast before we did, we left hungry and disappointed. When we paid for our hot drinks, we explained the situation… the server apologized, but honestly… that's not what I call good service.

I recently visited Restaurant Oberstadt and was absolutely impressed! I tried their breakfast and it was amazing , especially the warm pistachio pancakes, which were both flavorful and perfectly served. The food is fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff is friendly and attentive. I will definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed place with great food.❤️

OUTRAGEOUS! The service ruined our entire evening!!! First, the wrong drink arrived, and after asking about it, it took another 5 minutes for the correct one to come… When we then ordered food, the first four dishes arrived fairly quickly, but the last one TAKED MORE THAN 30 MINUTES. Despite asking several times, we were repeatedly told it would be right there, but it took another 30 minutes before we were forced to go to the front and ask ourselves. Only then did the food finally arrive. One of the orders was incorrect and had different ingredients than described on the menu. One of the burgers had a tomato on it that WASN'T MENTIONED on the menu. I'm allergic to tomatoes, and luckily I noticed it in time, otherwise I would have had a major allergic reaction. (Why does the tomato look like a slice of pineapple?) They wanted us to pay for the chicken rice bowl twice, even though we only ordered it once. The prices were also outrageous. We paid more than the menu price and didn't receive the correct change. Absolutely outrageous! Not recommended, stay away.

I'm curious to see if this review will be deleted… but this visit was a scandal. The breakfast burger was absolutely terrible!!! It was so small I could have eaten it in one go. And it cost €15!!!!!! When I asked why it was so small, they didn't respond professionally at all, but instead argued and justified it. A small coffee also cost €4.70, when a decent coffee with their own roastery costs €3.30. I'm never coming back.

The ambiance is really nice, and I'm sure the other dishes here are delicious, but unfortunately, we can't recommend the pistachio pancakes at all. Instead of being filled as advertised on the sign outside and on the menu, the pancakes were lightly coated with cream that didn't have a particularly strong pistachio flavor, and there was barely any chocolate sauce. This made the pancakes relatively dry, and they arrived almost cold. When we asked about it, we were told (very politely) that the pancakes always come lukewarm and only coated with pistachio – so this wasn't a mistake in the kitchen, but simply misadvertised. A price of €17.90 for these is, in our opinion, completely overpriced.

There were four of us, and almost all of us had to catch a train pretty quickly. Our brunette waitress with glasses not only took this advice into account, but also served us extremely friendly, as did the rest of the friendly staff. The food was excellent anyway; I highly recommend this place!

We wanted to have cocktails at the bar yesterday because of happy hour. We ordered three cocktails and still paid full price. When we noticed it and pointed it out, the staff was unsympathetic and simply said they had made a mistake. But it wasn't corrected, and we didn't get our money back. A very unpleasant experience.

A truly fantastic breakfast spot! The selection is incredibly diverse – whether sweet, savory, or healthy, there's something for everyone. Everything we tried was incredibly delicious, and you can immediately tell that only high-quality ingredients are used. The service was super fast, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive – you immediately feel at home. The cakes are a particular highlight! A perfect place for a cozy start to the day – highly recommended!

Cool atmosphere, but unfortunately, it took forever for us to get the menu. When we finally wanted to order, we were asked to wait outside because of a larger group, including ourselves, who had only arrived 30 minutes before our reservation. The staff's behavior was abysmal and unacceptable!

I bought a cocktail. It cost 9€. As a result, 70% of the cocktail was ice. I wonder why such a cosmic price? For frozen water? The cocktail itself didn't taste bad. But it definitely wasn't worth the €9... My friends in the company also ordered cocktails, which also did not meet expectations. I was ready to pay 9€ for a cocktail, but I did not expect such a large amount of ice... I was also impressed with the preparation time. They made the cocktail in 20 MINUTES! I don't recommend this.

A nice restaurant in the upper town with a great view of the university city, good food, homemade lemonades, and friendly service—what more?! Oh yes: a delicious breakfast!

We waited 45 minutes for the food and then they forgot our order. The food was 10 out of 10, except for the pancakes, which were a bit too fluffy and looked as if they had been sitting for 10 minutes.

The ambiance was pleasant, the service friendly but overwhelmed. The food was good, but the wait times were completely unacceptable (50 minutes for a cappuccino, over an hour for a cold platter).

I've eaten there many times and I'm always impressed. The food is delicious, there's a good selection, and the prices are very fair. The ambiance is also beautiful, and the staff is very friendly, and you don't have to wait long for your food. You can also sit outside, and with a larger group, it's also possible to sit inside. Reservations aren't necessary, so I've always gotten something when I've been there. Highly recommended.

I've been there twice now and, despite my criticisms below, I'd probably give the café another chance. + The food is excellent, and the menu has an unusual, hand-picked selection. - The prices are exceptionally high, and I'm not sure they're appropriate. + The ambiance is lovely, and there's a beautiful view that's perfect for relaxing. - The service is mediocre. Unfriendly on the first visit, but on the second visit, I noticed an error in the menu that caused me to order something I wouldn't have otherwise. I asked for a quick response from the kitchen and never received a reply. At the end of the day, I don't care, but it again demonstrates the lack of customer service. So, if you're short on cash, you can certainly get similarly good food and better service at lower prices at other Marburg cafés.

Outrageous wait times and service. We were forgotten at our seats outside. We went back in several times, first to place a second order, then to remind them of our presence and ask when our food would arrive. After waiting for almost two hours and following up three times in the meantime, someone finally came over to tell us they only had one portion left and asked if we even wanted it. It was around 2 p.m. and it was the advertised pancakes. The remaining tables weren't cleared or cleaned during our entire stay (almost three hours!). There wasn't much going on inside either, which might have justified the wait times and the poor service. The food tasted okay, so it still gets two stars.

The café and bar are very atmospheric and comfortably furnished. The wide-opening sliding windows offer a fantastic panoramic view of the city. There is a small selection of international breakfasts, all of which are very filling and delicious. Very friendly and attentive service.

We've never experienced anything like it before. Four of us went in, and at the counter we were told we could choose a table. There were only four tables occupied, so we took one with a nice view by the window. After the waitress ignored us for 10 minutes, we got our own menus to see what was on offer. Another 10 minutes later, no one had spoken to us. They obviously didn't want to sell us anything. So we got up and left, and the waitress actually wished us a nice day. I couldn't think of anything else to say. If the place was full, we would have been completely understanding, but not being spoken to once in 20 minutes when there was hardly anything going on is really pathetic. You don't win new customers that way. We can't comment on the food, but the ambience was generally very good. The service was unfortunately non-existent.

The food was quite good and the ambiance was good, but one of our dishes was badly burnt. We sent it back. However, it was still added to the bill. When we asked about it, we had to contact the owner by phone, and they only offered us a 50% discount for the burnt dish, claiming it would have been prepared anyway. However, the returned dish was thrown away by the staff, so we couldn't even take it with us. If you're willing to compromise customer service for a few extra euros, that speaks for itself...

Beautifully decorated restaurant/café with a great view over Marburg. We were there at lunchtime. It wasn't that busy at that time. The service was attentive and friendly. I had a Cheesy Smash Burger, which was fresh and very tasty. The Raspberry Heaven smoothie was also very good.

The restaurant is situated in the centre of the city. It has quite a nice view as it is located in the upper part of the old city. The food was pretty good, nothing special but no tragedy. Personally i didn't like the interier but that's just my personal preference. They have some vegetarian options which is great!

Truly delicious! The pistachio pancakes were fluffy, perfectly baked, and filled with a delicious pistachio cream. We were delighted by the combination of the light sweetness and the nutty filling. The presentation on the plate was also beautiful—garnished with fresh mint and fruit. Only one small drawback: the wait was a bit longer than expected. Otherwise, a great experience and highly recommended for a special breakfast or brunch!

Super delicious bowls and nice, slightly overwhelmed service but everything was good

Wow! And again wow! First of all this was one of the very few places that was open early in Corpus Christi day in Marburg. After a lovely hike up to the local castle and around for an hour we stopped in for coffee and breakfast. Frische Brötchen are always a win. My wife and I both ordered the "Good morning" breakfast board. It was more than enough and we had one leftover Brötchen zum Mitnehmen. The views of the Lahntal are wonderful and the sun shines right in through the windows as the sun rises in the East. The coffee was fantastic. I would enthusiastically recommend this wonderful little cafe if you are ever in the Oberstadt.

The food is good and the service is always excellent, but the cleanliness leaves something to be desired. The restrooms (doors) are dirty, and the windowsills are unfortunately wiped too infrequently.

Good food, great coffee. Friendly staff, and the wait time for food was perfectly acceptable, even though it was very busy. It's not fast food. Ventilation would have been nice; it was very warm and stuffy, even though it was quite chilly outside.

Unfortunately, the three waitresses didn't seem particularly interested in making money. Drinks were empty at all the tables, but no one even came around to take orders. And my special burger requests were completely ignored.

The food itself is very good, especially the burgers. The vegan bowls are quite overpriced for what you get. However, the staff could be better and friendlier; they often forget to bring menus to the tables or even take your order... which is a shame, because, as I said, the food is very good.

The service is very friendly and accommodating. The wait is surprisingly long, even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy at the time of our visit. It would be nice if longer wait times were announced in advance. A tip: bringing a bottle of water to the table doesn't take much time, but it does give the impression that the order is being processed. While the longer wait times were taken into account when paying, they obviously can't change the situation. Somewhat worn chairs don't really fit the ambiance, but a wonderful view of Marburg saves the day. We were very dissatisfied with the fluffy pancakes, however. They look quite pretty and are beautifully presented. Unfortunately, that doesn't help with the taste, which is too doughy and lacks flavor. They could be refined with vanilla or other flavorings, for example. The menu also states that the pancakes are served with fruit or chocolate sauce. In my opinion, decorative elements would be unnecessary—they simply contain a few blueberries, half a strawberry, and a few drops of chocolate sauce. The pistachio cream tastes very chemical and hardly resembles real pistachio cream. I would have understood this at a lower price, but at the current price, which I believe would be justified given the service, the dish falls short. Perhaps serve two pancakes instead of three and work on the quality. At first glance, a nice restaurant, but the service could still be improved. Overall, the price-performance ratio at this restaurant is unfortunately not right.

We were there for brunch and had some really great and delicious dishes. The menu was very appealing, and the staff were very friendly. Our dog was even allowed to come along, and he received a very warm welcome. :) Since almost every table was occupied, it was unfortunately quite loud at times, but bearable. The view of Marburg was a huge plus :)

A lovely, high-quality bistro in Marburg's upper town. Great view of the city. The pistachio pancakes are a good idea, but the portion is too large, even for me, a big eater. These aren't topped with pistachio nut butter, but more like pistachio pudding, comparable to lemon curd. The hot drinks are very good. Overall, they're rather expensive. Very friendly service, but the place is busy.

We were there today, but unfortunately, the waitress was very overwhelmed and forgot several things. She was still very polite and friendly! She then told us that her boss had assigned her to work alone this evening, just on the off chance. Several large tables came in, and there was always a long wait. We felt sorry for the waitress :(

Nice ambiance. Friendly service. The wait for breakfast was far too long – about an hour. The tables next to us who arrived after us got theirs before us. Upon request, our breakfast arrived very quickly. No one asked if we wanted more drinks. No card payments accepted during the day, even in this day and age.

Basic Kitchen is by far the best restaurant in Marburg. Lots of choice, especially for vegans. I always like to order there or go to the restaurant. The waiters there are all very friendly and the restaurant is also nicely decorated. My favorite thing to eat there is the Basic Burger. The only thing that bothers me is that the prices at Lieferando are much more expensive than locally. The burger costs €12.90 in the restaurant and €14.90 on Lieferando plus a €2 delivery fee, and even €5 on Uber Eats. That means at least €4-7 more. It's a shame actually. I understand the delivery costs (although €5 is way too expensive), but then making all the dishes more expensive is just cheating. Today they also forgot the peppers on my burger and saved more than a lot of money with the avocado cream. I hope in the future that the quality returns to its old standard :)

Great pancakes, great smoothies, great breakfast!

We wanted to have breakfast in Marburg on Sunday morning and found what we were looking for here. We have never had such a good and lovingly prepared breakfast! Plus a great ambience, good service and a beautiful view! Perfect!

We ordered the croissant breakfast. Only when the food arrived were we informed that there were no croissants. Instead there were only rolls. There was hair in one of the cream cheeses and some of the tomatoes were moldy. We often went here for breakfast but that was definitely the last time.

The roast beef dish wasn't good, I ordered it well done and it arrived English, it had zero seasoning and the fries were bland. Everything together didn't add up, but the price was steep. Card reader was also broken. And it's crowded and loud.

Great ambience and great block above Marburg. Unfortunately, service was a bit quick and unfriendly. Went there for breakfast and it was relatively crowded which made it very noisy and we couldn't really enjoy the experience. The food was very good, but the rolls were stone hard on the outside, which made cutting them and eating them difficult. We had breakfast there today. We recommend the Basic, a breakfast that contains both savory and sweet foods and has the best price-performance ratio. The pancakes are wonderfully fluffy, but 3 are really too many and it would be nice if you could only order 2. The bowls are not recommended, because for a price of €12.50 you get a small bowl of ice-cold smoothie puree with some granola. The hot drinks are a bit overpriced (coffee with milk €5.50). Overall it was a nice breakfast in a nice atmosphere.

Reserved a table at 3:25 p.m. for 4:30 p.m. Received email confirmation, drove specifically to the upper town, paid for parking. After I walked in, a manager (brown hair, short beard) came up to me. He asked directly: “Did you make a reservation 1 minute ago?” That doesn't work". He also said that making a reservation an hour ago would be “too spontaneous.” After I said that I had a reservation confirmation the manager said: "It doesn't matter, I have other customers, the door is there". Never experienced anything like this before. NEVER AGAIN! I can't judge the food because I wasn't allowed to try it either. Reservations through Google Maps are not permitted. If you want to be insulted, feel free to come here.

Unfortunately, the restaurant served meat instead of vegan burger patties on several occasions. It can't be the case that you have to check whether the food is really vegan every time you visit a restaurant or order. The delivery service generally often delivers the wrong food, for example the wrong smoothies. Once, instead of vegan apple pie, we were brought an apple pie with pecans. Okay in itself, we were assured on the phone that this was also vegan, only for us to find out the next time we went to the restaurant that the cake was not labeled as vegan (unlike the normal apple cake). That's stupid if you're vegan, but it's a health risk for people with food intolerances.

The best thing is the view, service miserable. We waited a long time and when we asked, the order was lost. The apology was poor and we were made to wait again… I will not enter this restaurant again!

Went there for breakfast late in the morning the day before New Year's Eve. Although there was a lot going on and all the tables were occupied, the waiting time remained reasonable. The service staff were friendly and responded flexibly to questions, as they should be. The ambience is great with a great view of the upper town over Marburg, the location is top notch. The food was very good and also very pleasing to the eye. Portions just right. That's why the price-performance ratio is, all in all, absolutely harmonious. For me a clear recommendation and deserves 5 stars.

It was my favorite café just a year ago! Unfortunately, it has diminished significantly. Some things from the menu were replaced or changed slightly, for example the pancakes. Unfortunately it's not nearly as good as it was back then. Service very slow. Sometimes I waited over 45 minutes for someone to take my order. It takes almost three quarters of an hour for what we ordered to arrive. But despite that, mostly friendly service. The view is great but it is always very loud so you can't communicate with your companion. I had never had the experience of getting so warm in a store and sometimes getting really tired. But here it is. Please heat less!! I've given the store another chance several times over the last few months but this was the last time. Too bad!

Nice location, but given the prices, more than one service would be appropriate. The poor waiter was solely responsible for ALL the tables, so you can't expect miracles, even if he was very friendly. Very high prices for drinks, coffee, cakes, etc.

Really great cafe with a great view. Nice facility. Salad was really varied and tasty, only the chicken was a bit dry because it was fried for too long. The burger was good too - only it came without the fries we ordered. It took a good 10 minutes until they were handed in. It's stupid to eat burgers and fries one after the other - but the service wasn't really interested. And then the “fried potatoes” with the schnitzel. Here in the café these are fried potato wedges. My objection about not having received any fried potatoes revealed my lack of knowledge about the preparation in the kitchen. “Fried potatoes” always look like this here. It's really no big deal, just: five different service staff come to the table - ultimately no one was really interested in hospitality.

Lots of vegan options that are listed on a double page in the middle of the menu so you don't have to search. :) We had the Pinsa Green Garden and the Exotic Beyond burger with sweet potato and vegan mayo. The food was super delicious! Unfortunately, the homemade lemonade we both had only consisted of water and syrup and was therefore a bit expensive at just over 5.00 euros.

This café offers a great selection of food and drinks (menu attached). The café's products are in a relatively high price range. Nevertheless, it tastes very good. The view is of course unbeatable, as there is a large panoramic window overlooking the city.

I was there for breakfast. Great decor, delicious food. I can recommend what I think it's called Classic Plate. The smoothies were also tasty but very large.

I find it very interesting. I find the coffee absurdly expensive, but the breakfast somehow absurdly cheap for what you get. So the bottom line is really reasonable prices for really good food, service and views!

Great restaurant, but unfortunately we had to wait a long time for service... they didn't pay any attention to us and preferred to chat.

Unfortunately the map was changed for the worse. First the delicious bagels, like the green vegan bagel, were taken out and now the bagels are only available for breakfast. As a vegetarian/vegan there isn't much left on the menu. There is a falafel bowl and a falafel salad, both of which are very identical in their ingredients, the pinsa unfortunately doesn't taste good at all, and the avocado bowl is very dominated by the balsamic dressing, which unfortunately doesn't go well with the otherwise Mexican-inspired dish. So that actually only leaves one of the burgers, which are tasty, but there are other, sometimes better, restaurants in Marburg for burgers. It's a shame, it would be great if the bagels were back on the regular menu.

One star deduction because you definitely need to clean between the windows and the glass partition in the seating area. You can also wipe off small children's fingerprints there from time to time. It's just constructive criticism, the service and the food, as well as how quickly everything was there, were great, you definitely can't go wrong with a healthy bowl or a burger here.

The food was great, and the service was very quick. But this wore off very quickly, so we waited 45 minutes for service even though the store was not very busy. The waitresses would rather talk about their private lives than serve customers. Unfortunately, the corners of the rooms are also full of spiders and cobwebs, but in my opinion this doesn't have to be the case.

Found by chance. The two of us were really excited. Good selection of everything with wonderful quality at a fair price. The restaurant itself is decorated super cool and offers a beautiful view. Last week we made reservations with a large group (approx. 55 people) and were thrilled. Great organization. Nobody had to wait long and everyone enjoyed it and all their needs were met. I can therefore only recommend the restaurant.

I ordered a Pumkin Latte with lactose-free milk, but it seems to have been normal milk because I now have severe gastrointestinal problems, and there was lipstick on the cup, which I initially thought was a pattern on the cup, but that turned out to be the case /turned out to be lipstick while drinking. I also didn't receive part of my order. I think that's a shame and from now on I'll only go to Basic Coffee at the train station.

Quite expensive, for 3 people burger+fries+soft drink+tip it's €70, that's steep. Unfortunately the burger was only lukewarm. The fries were great. Service was nice, nothing more. You sit outside at a very slanted angle.

Very nice restaurant with unfortunately a small outdoor area in a quiet location on the edge of the old town. Food and drinks were really tasty and a great price/performance ratio. The service was also very good and our waitress was very friendly. I can highly recommend the burgers.

Always fresh and also flexible in case of intolerances. The tattooed waitress was ultra accommodating and a great shop overall. Super tasty food that doesn't feel heavy on the stomach.
