Brauhaus "Zum Prinzen" in Köln

Dishes were good, ambiance was nice, but a strong wind blew the piled up cushions from the unoccupied tables all over ours, spilled our drinks, broke the glass in the plates, and... no one reacted... we were completely ignored (the server took the big glass shards directly out of the plate, left, no one came back). We told the manager and still payed full price for the cocktails we didn't drink and the plates we couldn't finish. We won't be coming back.

We sat in the back of the brewery. It was very pleasant and not too noisy there. A big compliment to our Kranzmarie, who always tried to accommodate our requests.

We made a reservation for six people four weeks ago, only to find ourselves sitting at two tables of four and two, during the cup final. It was a disgrace. We politely declined. This was our last time here; luckily, the old town is large.

The food was "okay," but we had to wait forever (over 30 minutes) to even order our food. And then we waited another 30 minutes for our food. If we hadn't already gotten something to drink, we would have left.

Almost 2 hours of waiting time, bottomless

Unfortunately, our visit to the Brauhaus zum Prinzen was very disappointing. My friend was verbally attacked across personal boundaries by a senior employee. When asked if you can pay by card, he replied "You can do anything with me, baby." - An absolute no-go. This of course lowered her mood, which was evident and she simply wanted to pay quickly. The waiter then asked if she was in a bad mood. She tried to dismiss the situation, whereupon the waiter briefly asked if it was because she was on her period. He also knew that from his daughter and explained it further. This made her feel very uncomfortable. Absolutely not a suitable place for young women to be treated with respect, as a line has definitely been crossed. The food was average at best and in no way salvaged the visit. We definitely expected more for the price. Only the atmosphere was pleasant. But a beautiful environment alone is not enough if you feel unwelcome. We definitely won't be back and unfortunately we can't recommend this place, especially not for young women.

6 guests were not welcome because there are only tables for 4 and no two chairs are allowed to be taken from the neighboring table. We should have broken up or left. Well, if this unfriendly Köbes thinks so, we'll just go to the competitor.

Finally found ourselves on the main square. This is a super bar / restaurant to pass some time. Lots of outdoor seating and a gorgeous interior. Paulicarus and Boothroyd ordered a Kölsch ( or three) and a rosé wine. Great attentive service. A perfect Spring afternoon.

Bouncer should be replaced. Not inviting. Rest is absolutely recommended.

Basically, the brewery is recommended, the food is delicious, the service staff are quick, polite and attentive... but the Kölsch is not tapped cleanly (see picture), clean massively under the calibration mark. Very unfortunate

Recently we wanted to go to the brewery “Z.P.” eat and drink something. To the Köbe's question: "Two Kölsch?", I answer: "No, one Kölsch and a coffee please." The Köbe's answer: "There's coffee next door." When asked if this was a joke, the Köbes replied annoyed: "No, there is no coffee here." Tip: Maybe The drinks menu should be updated. (Different varieties of coffee are available)

Absolute impudence. Service is incredibly cheeky. When you eat, you don't get what you ordered. And the waitress has the audacity to relate the poor service to the guests... Absolute disgrace Another attempt to post the review. If the operator cannot handle the truth, he should change it himself, but not hide it from other guests. They should already know what you're getting into.

We were there today around 5:00 p.m. We sat outside on the terrace and not all tables were occupied. Unfortunately we were unlucky and caught an extremely inattentive Köbes. Right at the beginning... we wanted to order two Kölsch and two dishes, and we were told very abruptly: "First slowly, eat later." After our food was brought by another Köbe, we asked several times for pepper and salt and asked for mayonnaise. Several requests were simply ignored. Pepper and salt were kindly provided from the neighboring table. There was no mayonnaise. A mineral water and an apple spritzer were served without glasses and we were only able to pay after 3(!) questions. Yes, Cologne Köbesse are a bit rubbish, but not that careless. Too bad….

Very friendly and courteous service. The brewery has been renovated inside, but still has its good old charm and invites you to linger. The food is delicious. Good German cuisine. Regardless of whether you're eating or just having a few Kölsch at the counter, you'll be warmly welcomed here.

Bumpy start with a rude bouncer who immediately started bullying. The food took a very long time and wasn't world class. Fries were cold and unsalted... I wouldn't come here again.

We were there for the first time and wanted to watch a football broadcast. The waiter who served us wasn't particularly friendly and was really on the ball, as I can tell you this much in advance: he ended up charging us more than we had eaten. When I pointed this out to him, he reacted brusquely and failed to apologize or take the whole thing in good humor. As for the food—let's face it—it's snack bar level, maybe a tad better—but nothing that would even remotely give the owner hope for a Michelin star. But it fits the ambiance and the whole atmosphere. Speaking of which: if you like Ballermann music, you're in the right place. It played before and after the game and really got on my nerves. If you like it, you're in good hands here. I wasn't.

I was relying on the stars here on Google and I didn't read the review until I get in. Very rude and cold man server 😒 😑 so I ordered food quickly as I already seated down. I was checking the drinks menu and he said not all available only the beer so I have to take it. Then I read some negative comments and I felt the same. So I tried to be positive and when I finished the meat I double thumbs up I was thinking it till send a smile and make him tone down nope 🙅‍♀️ it's a mistake. I have to get the bill as quickly as possible I didn't ask for receipt I'm expecting the correct amount which is good it is. Then I went down to take a piss but even the lady by the door is rude asking me to out money first before I could pee, I don't have cash so I just left with almost bursting bladder. I'm not going back. By the way, I'm asian maybe it's another thing that made me unwelcome. Trying to take the best photo of the food it's different from what other posted. What a waste of money I could just went to currywurst stall nearby. 😒🙅‍♀️

I can't recommend this restaurant. I was here with friends who are from Argentina but speak German with a slight dialect. The waiter treated my friends like they were stupid. Racism in its purest form..

Unfortunately that was nothing! Unfriendly service. Even though we were seen and wanted to order, we had to wait ages. We were actually ignored! The food was okay but nothing more. In any case, we won't come a second time!

Delicious food! Sauerbraten and red cabbage weren't really my thing and the dark beer sauce for the dumplings was burnt, but the dish Himmel un Ääd was so delicious!! 🤌 The service was super nice too!

My friend and I had a great meal in this lovely restaurant washed down with small glasses of local beer. The staff were very friendly. I will definitely visit again when I come back to the Christmas markets in December.

This is a cozy 'brauerei' with delicious food and beer! I was initially skeptical because I thought it would be very touristy but it is not too bad. We had the mixed salad with champignons (I know it sounds simple, but they made it look and taste amazing) and borscht soup packed with beef chunks. If you're planning to visit on a Friday or Saturday evening, try to book ahead—we only managed to get a table on Sunday evening.

A brewery a little different than the others, not too big and too loud. Cozy. Service quick and good. Eating Halve Hahn, liver sausage bites and currywurst today. Unfortunately only 3 stars in this area, Röggelchen was warm but soft, the sausage was good, the sauce came from a bucket. Fries not crispy. I know the food better, i.e. the main courses. Gaffel Kölsch on tap, delicious. Come again.

Extremely rude and unpleasant service - ordered a beer and sat down to watch the football match playing (2nd half), finished my drink, and was asked if I wanted another one, to which I said I'm good for now and received a sour look from the barwoman. She returned to my table after a few minutes and said I have to leave if I dont order another drink, keep in mind there were only 2 other people in the bar so it wasn't as if I was keeping a table for myself.

The rest of the family ate well, but I got food poisoning. The staff seemed to be under the influence of alcohol and made fun of the customers. I won't go there again, once food poisoning is enough.

Several times I spontaneously went to see the “Prince”. The nice doorman always looked after me and my companions very attentively and seated us at a bar table, much to our satisfaction, even though the shop was always full. The beer was very nice but the, I’m assuming, owner was very rude and aggressive. We tried our best to communicate what drinks we wanted using the menu and google translate (we don’t speak German). And in response he was very rude and aggressive in the way he acted towards us. Would not recommend.

Scam for turists. Take into account that they will add 15% tip directly when they tell you the amount to pay and give no receipt. Also, we asked of we could eat inside and they said outside, then german people eated inside. When we got told the total amount we asked in english and german to repeat how it was again but no answer, we got charged 15% tip by default, this is the only restaurant where we faced that, in others you choose the tip or say the amount you wanna pay (to include the tip) The food we ordered was schnitzel and bratwurst, not very decent, wont ever come back, dont waste your time here

Tried several dishes, all of which tasted excellent. The service was fast and friendly. The only downsides are the mediocre atmosphere on the terrace and that as a guest you also have to pay for the toilet with a toilet attendant who does not have change.

Unfortunately, I would have liked to give this place more stars because the food and the ambience were quite good. Unfortunately, in the end the service person felt like he was kidding me. When I just wanted to pay for my meal and a drink with a card, the gentleman just held out the reader to me without saying what I had to pay. When I asked how much that would be so I could tip it, he said it was too late now and it didn't matter because he wanted to move on quickly. I thought he would give up on it. Unfortunately I thought wrong, he tipped himself over €10, which I unfortunately only saw later when my cell phone notified me. This is an outrage and is not appropriate. And that too for a single person who wasn't there long. I like to tip but I would still like to decide for myself.

Quite a rude gentleman came up to me, stared for a few seconds then when I asked for a menu slapped it on the table in front of me and went away. Well anyways can't read German and the gentleman is nowhere to be found so maybe not gonna eat here.

It was raining when we came so we sat indoors, food and service were great we both had the schnitzel which was massive and super tasty which we washed down with beers, Lucas Podolski is everywhere in here too so much so that I looked up if he owned the place. Would definitely recommend and would revisit.

Visited this brewery during our visit to Cologne. The food was good, the beer cold and excellent. The service was impeccable, the cleanliness of the premises, including the toilets, was impeccable.

The best choice if you want to eat in one of the numerous breweries in Cologne city center. In addition to the food, the service was super nice and accommodating. We'll definitely be back.

As an East Asian customer, I felt uncomfortable with the service at this restaurant. On Thursday (22.08) afternoon, when I approached the white waiter who was facing directly outward from the door, he initially avoided eye contact and turned to the other direction despite the restaurant being mostly empty. After I greeted him, he turned around and acted surprised. When I asked for an extra spoon (Löffel), the waiter turned to an adjacent white female customer and both laughed at me. The waiter even pointed to his ear (as if I said Löffel incorrectly), but he did not look confused or ask any follow-up questions, which made the laughter feel mocking instead of confusion. I know I pronounced it correctly, as "oe" in German is similar to "eu" in French. This behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful. Additionally, when I asked to split the bill with my friend, the waiter initially refused, but complied after I insisted and asked why it wasn’t possible. He also just left without asking me if I wanted a receipt after I paid. I had to tell him I wanted my receipts. I hope other people of color and/or non-German speaking people think twice before they eat at this restaurant (if at all) unless the staff stop their racially-biased behaviors.

We sat nicely in the beer garden. Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food; the exorbitant prices stopped us from ordering. The service was attentive and quick, and the beer replenishment went smoothly. Now that the construction site disappears from under your nose, you can enjoy your Kölsch again with a view of the Altermarkt and town hall. Four stars.

Great place in the old town of Cologne. Just a few minutes from the Rhine promenade. The seats on the market square are very nice and we ate very well. The portions are large and we enjoyed it very much.

The Kölsch was great and the service was very, very friendly, quick and proactive. The kölsch was just empty then the next Hehr came.

What can you say other than SUUUUPER! Every time we are in Cologne (we come from Brandenburg a. der Havel), you are one of our regular pubs. Kölsch, food (Halve Hahn, Mettbrötchen, liver sausage bites, etc.) etc. simply fantastic. Your staff is always in good spirits! You can chatter and gossip really well 😁. To use our jargon: you guys are really crazy 👍💪

Fantastic food in a great location. Enjoyed local beer and German meals. A bit cold outside but manageable with the wind but would have been perfect on a summer day.

I was traveling in Cologne and I urgently needed to go to the toilet. The bouncer refused to let me go to the bathroom in the store. I also offered to pay for it, but also refused for no reason. The store reported my other review for defamation, with success.

After this post was reported for defamation, I am happy to justify the corresponding review. Neither the food nor the location as such are criticized here, but rather the outrageous service that we experienced there that evening. The behavior towards us as guests was very unfriendly and unacceptable for me. In addition, there were horrendous waiting times of over 60 minutes that were incomprehensible to us.

Although the food and service were good, I have to give a negative review. Although the waitress assured me after the last call that I could finish my beer in peace and then go to the toilet, the unfriendly bouncer refused to allow me to do so. Even though I drank and ate there, he pointed me straight to the public toilets, which had just been closed. He also lied by saying that the toilets were already closed because they had been cleaned. In fact, they were dirty and there were still empty cigarette packets lying around.

In all, started off ok. Food was quick and delicious. However, the young lady with glasses accused me of throwing beer mats. That then put a downer half way through the meal. The service then become slow. Smiles at tables near by but angry face when back at ours.
