I had classic currywurst, fries, and mayo. It costs €7, totally fine these days, and it tasted good. Nothing amazing, but totally fine. What wasn't okay...we were sitting outside, and there were pigeons running around everywhere, jumping (and pooping) on ​​the tables, which is pretty disgusting. If this were my place, there would be someone walking around all day just wiping the tables. We sat there for 20 minutes, and no one did during that time 🤷‍♀️ UPDATE...we were back a week later, and this time someone was cleaning the tables.

Great curry wurst! Tried in a few places in Germany and this was the best.

Great currywurst and definitely worth a stop. I paid €7 for a Manta platter (September 2025). The fork was plastic, but the small wooden pick would have been sufficient for me here.

We tried the classic currywurst with fries at Bratwursthaus – a real must-try if you follow the many recommendations. However, the reality was rather mixed for us. The fries were okay, but not consistently well-cooked. Some were crispy, while others were soft and a bit flimsy, and some weren't cooked all the way through. I expected more from the much-praised currywurst: The sausage itself was solid, but nothing special in terms of flavor. The curry sauce, although served very hot, wasn't convincing in terms of flavor. It lacked depth and the typical spice – a bit of heat would have improved the whole thing. Overall, the experience was rather mediocre. For a cult restaurant with such a reputation, I would have hoped for significantly more flavor and quality.

My first time ordering there, and I was blown away. The chicken burger, teriyaki sandwich, and roll with garlic sauce...a dream. And the very friendly staff rounded it all off. Top-notch.

The Bratwursthaus is my go-to place whenever I'm in the area. The currywurst is delicious, and the sausage itself is of excellent quality. The prices are reasonable for what's on offer, and the service is usually friendly. It's not the best currywurst, but it's definitely one of the best in the Ruhr area.

Finally, a truly good currywurst sauce. Simply honest and incredibly delicious. That's how currywurst is made.

Hello. Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant and try the sausages – I can't say anything negative about them. However, I do have a comment about the service, specifically about a dark-haired young man at the cash register! I speak very little German, and I was cheated out of money when paying. Of course, I didn't notice until I got home, after I'd already left. Of course, it's my own fault that I was deceived, but the bad impression remains. Be careful and vigilant in this place!

Best sausage anyone can have. No need to buy the set meal that comes with fries. The sausages are good enough. I also recommend buying the sauce to bring back home.

Currywurst was amazing as always, but the fries weren't. I don't understand why they can't manage to leave the fries in for a minute longer, even though I asked for them. Of course, I was told it wasn't a problem. In the end, the fries were the same as always: undercooked and soggy. 🤷 The waitress was more interested in chatting than in serving.

Overall, it's okay. It's just fast food. The bratwurst was pretty hard, it must have been on the grill for a while. The fries are delicious. The price is definitely above average. The staff is very friendly.

My wife and I went to Bratwursthaus on Friday and ordered the special and fries with pulled pork. The taste was overall "okay," but far from what you'd expect for the prices. The special sausage relies almost entirely on the sauce and not the sausage itself, the fries are simple, standard fare, and the pulled pork seemed dry and poorly prepared. For that, however, you pay prices that are almost like a restaurant, without even remotely delivering the corresponding quality. The whole thing is more like mass production than a culinary experience. The big hype surrounding Bratwursthaus is completely irrelevant to me. Yes, the place has been a fixture in Bochum for many years and is somewhat of a cult spot—but more because of its name and image than the food. It's certainly a pleasant experience for tourists, but disappointing for locals or critical guests. My conclusion: If you've been there once, you can cross it off your list. You certainly don't have to come back.

A delicious chili cheese plate and fresh sausages. Spicy, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. Cozy with a pleasant atmosphere. The fun atmosphere outside the shop with passersby further livened up the evening. Ideal for a quick and very tasty snack after a visit to the bar.

I came all the way from Wuppertal to try all the "unusual" currywurst varieties. I particularly like the Greek platter. I think it's just something different. The staff are very friendly. The pigeons, as others have complained about, aren't really a problem. The best part: you can pay by card.

Everything, but everything, was way overpriced. I felt like I was in Paris. Something that costs €2 outside is €5.99 here. The cheesecake is the only thing that tasted great. I couldn't try anything else because it was too much for my budget.

I'm extremely disappointed! I ordered food with my colleagues today from 12:40 to 1:00 PM. I pre-ordered at 11:00 AM. The food didn't even arrive when the break was over... No compensation, nothing... Not even an explanation as to how it was possible to mess it up like this with such a long lead time. We are all extremely angry and disappointed... After a long time, I returned to my old hometown and, of course, had to try a Bochum currywurst. What a bitter disappointment! The currywurst was still reasonably good. The service was abysmal. I really miss the lovely ladies from the 90s who worked behind the counter. Only after taking my order was I informed that the currywurst was ready, but the fries would take another five minutes. The service staff seemed young, energetic, and unmotivated. That's what happens when a cult chip shop gets old and focuses solely on commercialism.

The taste was okay, but unfortunately the food was delivered almost cold! We didn't call right away or request a new delivery.

Top-notch currywurst, fries as they should be, and a team that knows what they're doing. The only downside: The sausage came in XXL medallion shape—six slices from one sausage! The slicer must have been set to "coarse cut." A little fine-tuning, and we get maybe 15 to 18 stylish mini slices. More pieces, more surface area for the sauce—and that's what we all want, right?

Hey! The food here is always delicious – I highly recommend it! The Dönninghauser currywurst is a must-try, really spicy and flavorful. The fries with cheese and jalapeños are also great – nice and crispy, with just the right amount of spice. Friendly service, fair prices – I'll be back!

If you want a good currywurst, you've definitely come to the right place, but if you expect to get more than a standard currywurst, don't come.

The sausage was dry, with a thick, dry skin! The fries weren't crispy at all, and the sauce was too thick. The bacon bits were really hard and dry! :( I don't know how long the sausage had been on the grill or how old the sauce was. Never again!!! :(( Sorry, but it didn't work!!! :((

Verdict: Cult atmosphere, yes, but not convincing in terms of taste. Perhaps okay for adults who prefer spicy sauces – not really recommended for families with children.

The prices have become quite ambitious (a large Bochum plate with a drink and a brownie costs €16.50), but the quality remains top-notch, and rising costs certainly haven't stopped this place. If you're in Bochum, it's still definitely worth a visit!

I ordered fries with currywurst parmagedon as a small snack for over €9. The fries were soggy, lukewarm, and anything but crispy, inedible. When I asked them to leave them in the fryer longer, I was told to throw them away... The answer: I was LOUDLY yelled at (after I asked the lady to please try a fries herself, so she would realize they were neither crispy nor cooked through, but still mushy) with the words: WHAT DO YOU EVEN WANT? THEN JUST THROW THEM AWAY - that was 100% accurate). I've never had to put up with anything like that before, so I left and didn't say anything else. And: I definitely didn't eat my fries, just picked out the sausage! My partner, "starving," ate a few fries after a bike ride, but also left some. And NO, I definitely have absolutely no need to sneak in a second portion (which I didn't ask for) like that. In the photo, you can see the leftover, uneaten fries; here, the ketchup makes them look even prettier than in real life! Thank you for the voucher offer. Unfortunately, I won't be in Bochum for a while, but I think it's very kind and fair – and that's what counts! Unfortunately, I only took one photo (my partner, who ordered "regular" currywurst with fries, gave me his because he hoped his fries would be better cooked than mine...)

Does what it promises, really well

THE currywurst stand in Bochum is supposedly the one about which Grönemeyer made his currywurst song. Currywurst in all variations either as a so-called snack, a currywurst with fries, or as a portion for people from the pot. Two curry sausages with fries. Ours were very tasty. And the ambience with bar tables looks very authentic.

The shop was recommended to me because of its vegan manta platter and I wasn't disappointed. The regular portion was more than enough for me. The vegan sausage was a hit. I haven't eaten currywurst in forever. I hope I come to Bochum again.
