Berliner Kartoffelhaus in Berlin

We visited the Berliner Kartoffelhaus – Potato House as a couple during our first visit to Berlin, after discovering it through a TikTok video. We were looking for an authentic, local experience… and we found it! The menu offers 14 different potato dishes, all paired with various types of meat: a paradise for those who love traditional, flavorful dishes. The portions are generous, and we loved the food. We also discovered a beer we weren't familiar with, Berliner Kindl: light, refreshing, and not at all bitter, a delightful surprise. The service was quick and friendly, despite the place being quite busy. In the end, we spent around €60 for two, with generous dishes and two half-liter mugs of beer: a more than fair price for the quality, quantity, and experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a true Berlin experience!

The Kartoffelhaus (Potato House) in Berlin (near Alexanderplatz) is a very cozy restaurant where you can choose from 16 potato side dishes with every main course. Seven of us ate there on November 12, 2025, and Yvonne provided excellent service :-). The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was also very pleasant. We felt very comfortable. Anyone who comes here has to understand the atmosphere. I've read some negative reviews and didn't understand them at all. We were greeted warmly during peak hours and, even without a reservation, were offered a two-minute wait. After that, we were shown directly to a free table and served with exceptional friendliness. We had the mixed platter and the favorite dish of [name omitted] (ragout and gratin), unfortunately, I can't remember the names... Everything was absolutely delicious, and the Kaiserschmarrn with cherries served in a glass was truly fantastic! Good, traditional cooking without being pretentious! Afterwards, we had a schnapps and a nice chat with the waitress! Everything was perfect! We'd gladly come again.

A great spot to try delicious German food! I ordered the liver — and honestly, it was one of the best, most well-cooked livers I’ve ever had. The menu is centered around potatoes, so you definitely need to be a potato lover to fully enjoy it. The interior has a charming, old-fashioned vibe that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a traditional restaurant from the past. I would definitely recommend this place!

What a wonderful German restaurant! As tourists in Berlin we could not have wanted more. Great atmosphere, fantastic food, generous portions, nice beer and a good variety of other drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The Berlin tasting platter (schnitzel, curry wurst and meatballs) is a good option of you want some variety, and the black pudding was superb. Highly recommended.

A lovely Berlin restaurant with many typical German dishes. It was well attended, with some international dishes as well. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. The service was also very attentive and friendly. The ambiance was a bit over-the-top, but the decor was lovely and quaint. All in all, highly recommended.

We wanted to have a leisurely meal here. The fried potatoes were completely oversalted. The Kaiserschmarren was almost inedible; it wasn't made from the usual batter. We don't know what it was. We won't be coming back. The service was good! The ambiance is nice.

I stopped by for some authentic German food after visiting Alexanderplatz. As always, I forgot to take a picture of the food, which usually means it was delicious! You choose the style of potato and then a protein that goes along with it. I went with the Berliner Plate which was hearty and very tasty. The interior was cozy and the Pilsner was, of course, stellar.

Based on recent positive reviews, we decided on the Kartoffehaus. We had a mixed platter with currywurst, a small schnitzel, and a boullette. What can I say? For €24, we expected good quality, but we were extremely disappointed. Supposedly, everything was fresh. The meatball was really firm and tasted like a warmed-up ready-made meatball. The currywurst was okay, and the schnitzel wasn't anything special either. The fried potatoes were extremely greasy, not even homemade in my opinion, and the baked potato had no flavor at all. Everything lacked seasoning. Note: If you get cucumber salad as a side order, you're getting a small jar of jam with salad. The price isn't worth the meal. On top of that, the service was pretty unfriendly. For the money, you'd be better off going to Mutter Hoppe or Hofbräuhaus.

During our stay in Berlin, we chose this restaurant to try pork knuckle. We opted for their menu, which includes a main course (a choice of different types of meat) accompanied by a side of potatoes prepared in various ways and an additional side dish. The quality-price ratio is good, and the portions are quite generous; I recommend sharing the dish. The pork knuckle was tender and well-cooked, although it didn't quite live up to our expectations for this traditional dish. In any case, the meat was generally pleasant. The potato soup, on the other hand, was a disappointment. It didn't seem to be made with fresh ingredients at all, and the flavor wasn't potato-like. As you can see from the attached photo, the sausages were immediately noticeable, and they weren't of good quality. Overall, it gave the impression of a ready-made soup that had simply been reheated, with an unconvincing flavor. Overall, a good restaurant for those who want to try traditional German cuisine with generous portions and reasonable prices.

The food was below expectations. The prices were a bit high. The service was fast.

For a restaurant on the tourist mile at Alexanderplatz, it's just about okay. The fried potatoes were certainly subpar for a potato restaurant: lots of fat and not enough fried potatoes... and a trained chef who delivers something like that is in the wrong profession. A friend of mine, a trained chef, once said that if you can't do the simple things, then you can't do anything else either.

Nothing to say, literally PERFECT, very fast service, excellent dishes and extremely courteous staff

We arrived, politely asked for a table for four, and were told to just sit at a free table. There were plenty (at least 12 free tables outside). No sooner said than done – we were bluntly informed that it was reserved and we should take another one. Seated at a table in the shade, we were rudely shouted at, "For eight people, don't go there, the table is for eight people, there are other tables there, please go there." Eyes rolled. That's legitimate if the place is packed, but there was nothing going on and it was already 2:30 p.m. – lunchtime. We were treated rudely for no reason and then left. Maybe just a bad day, but that's no way to start a good dining experience.

Excellent restaurant serving traditional German cuisine. The Omas Bratkartoffel (three fried eggs on a bed of roasted potatoes) is fantastic. Don't miss it.

It's currently quite noisy due to the construction work in front of the building, but the restaurant is still excellent. This isn't the first time we've eaten here. Keep up the good work. Keep your positive attitude. Everything was perfect for us. The price/performance ratio is right!

If you're spending the whole day exploring Berlin and don't speak German, this is, without a doubt, the best place to eat. The staff speaks Spanish and offers excellent service. You can enjoy typical German food with hearty and generous mixed dishes. And nothing beats a one-liter jug of Paulaner to soothe away the day's tiredness. I can't recommend this restaurant. If you have plenty of time, you can wait for the conditions and eat like that. Only for tourists who think they won't be back anyway. But neither will we.

We were incredibly hungry and went here for German cuisine. The portions are gorgeous and large! Very filling, and most importantly, everything was delicious. We took a schnitzel with pork, grilled vegetables and the set included a side dish (I took sweet potato). The second plate was an assortment of steaks with the same set, but we took baked potatoes. We ate with my mother and enjoyed it! Everything was very wonderful!

Beautiful, rustic restaurant with delicious Berlin delicacies

We spontaneously looked for something to eat that resembled East German cuisine and were not disappointed. We were quickly assigned a table. The staff was very friendly. Great atmosphere. Our orders were taken quickly. Drinks arrived fairly quickly, and the food didn't take long either (the restaurant was not very busy). We ordered fried potatoes, currywurst, and steak oufour. We had no major complaints and found it very tasty. The only thing was the fried potatoes, which were a bit oily, but that's also a matter of taste. We can highly recommend this restaurant, and if we're ever in Berlin again, we'll gladly come back.

So we ate there today!!! Honestly! The meat was breaded! There was no sauce, the food was unseasoned, it was hot but not tasty!!! No sauce, where do you find something like that!!! Absolutely overpriced!!! One schnitzel with fries, one schnitzel with potatoes, and two drinks! 65 euros 🥺 A mess for the food, it wasn't even properly presented! The menu was terrible!!! Really not recommended

I so blown away by the size of the meal I forgot to take a picture. I had the schnitzel with white asparagus and, of course, potatoes . It was more than I could finish. They have a really good dark beer, too.

We only had around 36hrs to spend in Berlin & we were delighted to end our last day with a wonderful meal at Berliner Kartoffelhaus. Our host Marko made us feel right at home straight away & took excellent care of us. We had the Argentinian Steak & potatoes with Garlic. The atmosphere here is excellent! You’re not far away from the Berlin TV Tower & Neptunes Fountain. There’s a great amount of night life & activity here so the whole experience feels very immersive. 100% we will return to this fantastic establishment!!!
