Berliner Kartoffelhaus in Berlin

Yesterday a second attempt was made after a long time and unfortunately it failed again. When I go to a potato house, I expect that the dumplings are made from potatoes and not from mixed powder with a potato next to it. The grilled turkey medallions didn't see any grill either but came from the deep fryer. Likewise the children's schnitzel. Greetings to the chef: Schnitzel is still fried in the pan. Not recommended.

The best place we've ever been in Germany. Delicious, large portions. Real homemade food.

Food and service impeccable. There is 1 star deduction for the dessert. 13€ for the cold dog is really over the top

Typical German restaurant. Well-cooked traditional dishes that can be paired with potatoes prepared in many different ways. Service a little slow but very friendly and kind. Good prices for a capital and for the location of the restaurant. The soups are good. Little choice for vegetarians apart from potatoes obviously. A few dishes for the children. Recommended for a pleasant evening in Berlin.

Typical, I recommend it. Well cooked and tasty Berlin cuisine, fantastic beers. Compliments to the beautiful waitress with the tattoos who was very kind!

A place with a particular Berlin style, with a nice atmosphere, a stone's throw from Alexanderplatz. The menu concept is very nice: you can take a main course and pair it with a side of potatoes. You can try potatoes in various preparations, we tried the "pancake potatoes" and the "potato dumplings". The food was typical and very good. The staff was kind and pleasant. I definitely recommend!

Yesterday we toured Berlin with our boys (6,9,11 years old) and spontaneously stopped at the potato house at 6pm in the evening. We got a seat straight away and our waitress Yvonne, as well as the other ladies, were very warm and accommodating. We were allowed to try the Fassbrause beforehand to see if it was really something for the boys. Yvonne also brought us 3 cookies with my tea so that the boys wouldn't argue, which I found very thoughtful. The ambience was calm and was like an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Berlin. The food came after a reasonable amount of time, was warm, very well seasoned and very tasty. We ordered the children's schnitzel with fries, a potato soup and a baked potato with turkey medallions and Mediterranean vegetables. The prices are humane and fair for Berlin. Once again a big compliment to Yvonne, who looked after us very lovingly. The only drawback: the chairs at our table were very hard, but they certainly fit the rustic atmosphere. We'd love to come back.

A very nice place where you can eat typical meat-based foods combined with potatoes cooked in various ways (fried, baked, pureed...). For vegetarians there is not much choice (a soup, a green salad and of course the potato side dishes). The only flaw, we arrived without booking and were told to wait 10 to 15 minutes. Then no one cared about us for more than half an hour... They then made us sit down at our request. We understand the inconvenience of not having booked, but better communication would have been enough.

We went there at the suggestion of the tour guide. Nice place, good food (nothing exceptional), rather slow but friendly service...

The potato house is clocky, so it's beautifully rustic. The waitress, well, she made a mistake with the table, we came with 14 people. But since we were one less anyway, that didn't matter to us. No, she insisted on the other table... We moved. Oh no, it was the other table. We moved again. However, only some of those who liked it there simply stayed put. So the rest moved back and the waitress looked up as usual. Could we decide now? Please?? Who made a mistake with the tables here? The raised eyebrows remained the whole evening and so did the corresponding mood. Hospitality looks different. The chef(s) were great and that's the most important thing. Since everyone ate something different, we were able to test the dishes back and forth. The potato house can be recommended without question. But it's better to come by public transport, there are no parking spaces!

Once you put your foot in it you just don't want to leave anymore. It would even get 10 stars from me. Thank you for the lovely evening.

Very nice restaurant. Nice staff and delicious food. Worth a visit.

It's okay, but nothing special for Germans. Good German home cooking, good quality too. But nothing that doesn't exist at home. Service was great and nice, hence all the stars. But the ambience is a bit very rustic and, especially in winter, don't sit in the corner of the window as the cold wind whistles through. Conclusion: You can do it, definitely something for foreign tourists.

Super awesome, a real German experience

Classic German restaurant, in terms of decor and menu. Food good, although I wouldn't go for the cheese fries. These were twisters with cold cheese sauce on top. Everything else was delicious, both the main course and both desserts.

The most tasteless knuckle I've ever eaten in Germany. It turned out that there is only boiled one. Thick, very greasy skin, poorly cooked meat, difficult to remove from the bone. Too salty, the bone is huge

We stopped with the intention of tasting something typical. The decor is rustic, you think you've gone back in time but the music is commercial from the 90s and the atmosphere loses its magic! The service was friendly but slow. The food was plentiful but not very satisfying in terms of flavours. The beef tasted like pork and was a little overcooked (I wasn't asked for the desired doneness). Apparently it looks like a tourist place but in reality it is frequented by many elderly Germans. I still recommend a visit!

For me, the overall result corresponded to the expectations derived from the name of the restaurant: cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and hearty food with all possible variations of potato side dishes.

Three of us went there for lunch and weren't convinced. The pork knuckle was ok in terms of meat, the sauce tasted like vegetable broth, the potato dumpling was completely tasteless (and this in the potato house), sauerkraut was ok. Rump steak was fine and so were the boiled potatoes. Seasoned meat and tomato soup also tasteless! So, the Alex is probably more for guests of our city. Service ok.

Really worth a visit. If you like rustic, you've come to the right place. Potatoes in all variations. However, a reservation would be an advantage, always full when we are there. In terms of price, it's also perfectly fine.

A nice restaurant where you can find classic German dishes and where mostly older Germans are present. You can choose and order one of 15 potatoes to accompany your main meal, they are included in the price of the main dish. The service personnel inside explain all this information with a smile.

Simply MAGNIFICENT!! First day in Berlin and we weren't sure where to eat and we found the perfect place. A delicious meal, a super pretty decoration and the super friendly waiter who spoke to us in Spanish despite not knowing very well. Super recommended

A very good restaurant, not too expensive and with a large choice of German specialties. If you go as a couple, take the plate to share, you'll get your money's worth! Special mentions to their beers as well.

Cute place, but the food really wasn't amazing. We had the currywurst. The side dish was good but the sausage was nothing special.

A nice, quaint and welcoming place. Possibility of very varied choice and suitable for all tastes. The meat was good. I expected something more on the cheese fries. The fried chicken on the children's menu is also excellent; it was definitely not supermarket stuff. The service is very homely but appreciable for this very reason.

Pre-soup wasn't hot 🔥 enough just lukewarm, ducks were also lukewarm and ten. Too bad.

Am 19.12.24 suchten wir mittags das Kartoffelhaus am Roten Rathaus in Berlin auf, um eine Kleinigkeit zu essen und ein Bier zu trinken. Die Speisen sagten uns nicht zu und wir wollten nur das Bier trinken. Darauf reagierte die Bedienung sehr ungehalten und meinte, es wäre ein Speisenlokal. Wir überlegten es uns und bestellten einmal das unter "Für den kleinen Hunger" mit Käse überbackene Würzfleischragout. Es kam ein kleines Creme-brülee-Schälchen (Maße Höhe 5 cm, Durchmesser 9 cm, 150 ml!). Einfach lächerlich - und mit Kuchengabel und Teelöffel zu essen! Das "kleine" Gericht kostete 10,-- € - wir nennen es Abzocke.

We were there yesterday for dinner in the afternoon. My partner had a steak with dumplings and gravy and I had the kale. So if you want to eat really good home cooking, this is the place for you. At first it took 30 minutes for the waiter to come to take the order because we asked for it. Then it took another 30 minutes to get the food. It took 20 minutes after ordering to get the drink and they brought the wrong drink. The place was not good. Unless you have all the time in the world, don't go here!

Very long waiting times. Right from the start we had to wait at the entrance for at least 10 minutes without being noticed or shown to a table. After we were finally seated, it took another 15 minutes for our order to be taken. We then had to wait another 15 minutes for the drinks, and we received a large drink instead of a small one. Customers who came after us got their food before us. It wasn't until 45 minutes after we ordered that our food was served, which was tasty but didn't justify the long wait. Other guests also seemed visibly annoyed by the chaos. We wouldn't visit this restaurant again!

Service is top, ambience is simply great. Food was tasty and plentiful but a bit on the expensive side. The shop seems to be very popular, it's definitely worth making a reservation in the evening, otherwise you might not be able to find space.

TERRIBLE. ARROGANT AND RUDE STAFF. We looked in for the first time and they sent us away saying that there were no free tables even though there were! The next day I booked through Quandoo, we showed up at the time and despite the reservation, shown on our mobile phone, they kicked us out, saying that they don't take reservations and that there were no tables.

Despite the wait, they found us a table. The service was pleasant and fast. They were trying to be friendly. Except that at the end of the evening, at the time of the bill they told us that it was the same without a tip, suggesting as if we were obligated to give it. We gave it because we felt uncomfortable not doing so but we informed ourselves and here the tip is not obligatory.

A quaint, beautifully decorated restaurant. The friendly staff is pleasantly attentive and helpful. The dishes are delicious and typically hearty. Not everyone can make fried potatoes but here they are perfect. Farmer's pan, schnitzel, chicken and black pudding were very tasty. We'll be back!
