Berliner Kartoffelhaus in Berlin

The meat was bad, the egg dish was half-raw, why so many stars? I don't recommend it!!!!

Pure CATASTROPHE!!!!!! Once and never again!!! Abysmal stomach pain...I have my doubts it was even fresh...

For a restaurant on the tourist mile at Alexanderplatz, it's just about okay. The fried potatoes were certainly subpar for a potato restaurant: lots of fat and not enough fried potatoes... and a trained chef who delivers something like that is in the wrong profession. A friend of mine, a trained chef, once said that if you can't do the simple things, then you can't do anything else either.

We arrived, politely asked for a table for four, and were told to just sit at a free table. There were plenty (at least 12 free tables outside). No sooner said than done – we were bluntly informed that it was reserved and we should take another one. Seated at a table in the shade, we were rudely shouted at, "For eight people, don't go there, the table is for eight people, there are other tables there, please go there." Eyes rolled. That's legitimate if the place is packed, but there was nothing going on and it was already 2:30 p.m. – lunchtime. We were treated rudely for no reason and then left. Maybe just a bad day, but that's no way to start a good dining experience.

Excellent restaurant serving traditional German cuisine. The Omas Bratkartoffel (three fried eggs on a bed of roasted potatoes) is fantastic. Don't miss it.

It's currently quite noisy due to the construction work in front of the building, but the restaurant is still excellent. This isn't the first time we've eaten here. Keep up the good work. Keep your positive attitude. Everything was perfect for us. The price/performance ratio is right!

If you're spending the whole day exploring Berlin and don't speak German, this is, without a doubt, the best place to eat. The staff speaks Spanish and offers excellent service. You can enjoy typical German food with hearty and generous mixed dishes. And nothing beats a one-liter jug of Paulaner to soothe away the day's tiredness. Many thanks to Alexis for his joy and dedication: he does everything with love.

The waiter who served us was a real Berlin native who was incredibly cool. The owners should be glad they have him. I would come back for him first, and then for the food. Thank you for the excellent service.

Definitely recommend it 😃 first time there. The ambiance fits the restaurant's name perfectly. Great service, fast, clean, and they speak perfect English. The food is absolutely delicious and the portions are so generous. I was embarrassed, but despite my best efforts, I only ate three-quarters, even though I was already full after half. I was glad I didn't order dessert beforehand. I wouldn't have been able to fit it in.

Cozy place near Alexanderplatz. Probably “touristy” because of the location, but there weren’t that many people anymore. Really cozy and sweet and good service. The food was excellent. We had a schnitzel and apple strudel. We would love to come again.

The service was absolutely outstanding: courteous, attentive, and fast. The food was okay, but unfortunately, the price-performance ratio wasn't right. The ambiance is very worn; some new upholstery or a thorough cleaning would definitely be beneficial.

Gluten-free dishes are available, but not marked on the menu. You have to ask the staff. I recommend the baked potato with sour cream and cheese with extras.

A cozy dinner for two. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food was very good and the portions were generous. We found our visit very pleasant and will definitely be happy to return. The outdoor benches are rustic and very inviting. Of course, this is a tourist hotspot, but the prices are reasonable and not much different from other restaurants throughout Berlin. Thumbs up.

Excellent restaurant, impossible to miss if you are in Berlin! The specialty is potatoes and there are many main courses to choose from! Everything was delicious, the staff was attentive and kind in serving us and advising us on what to eat. Bread with dried tomatoes, super! Prices in line with typical Berlin restaurants!

I can't recommend this restaurant. If you have plenty of time, you can wait for the conditions and eat like that. Only for tourists who think they won't be back anyway. But neither will we.

We were incredibly hungry and went here for German cuisine. The portions are gorgeous and large! Very filling, and most importantly, everything was delicious. We took a schnitzel with pork, grilled vegetables and the set included a side dish (I took sweet potato). The second plate was an assortment of steaks with the same set, but we took baked potatoes. We ate with my mother and enjoyed it! Everything was very wonderful!

We spontaneously looked for something to eat that resembled East German cuisine and were not disappointed. We were quickly assigned a table. The staff was very friendly. Great atmosphere. Our orders were taken quickly. Drinks arrived fairly quickly, and the food didn't take long either (the restaurant was not very busy). We ordered fried potatoes, currywurst, and steak oufour. We had no major complaints and found it very tasty. The only thing was the fried potatoes, which were a bit oily, but that's also a matter of taste. We can highly recommend this restaurant, and if we're ever in Berlin again, we'll gladly come back.

So we ate there today!!! Honestly! The meat was breaded! There was no sauce, the food was unseasoned, it was hot but not tasty!!! No sauce, where do you find something like that!!! Absolutely overpriced!!! One schnitzel with fries, one schnitzel with potatoes, and two drinks! 65 euros 🥺 A mess for the food, it wasn't even properly presented! The menu was terrible!!! Really not recommended

We had a very good meal here. We received extremely friendly and courteous service and would gladly return.

I so blown away by the size of the meal I forgot to take a picture. I had the schnitzel with white asparagus and, of course, potatoes . It was more than I could finish. They have a really good dark beer, too.

We only had around 36hrs to spend in Berlin & we were delighted to end our last day with a wonderful meal at Berliner Kartoffelhaus. Our host Marko made us feel right at home straight away & took excellent care of us. We had the Argentinian Steak & potatoes with Garlic. The atmosphere here is excellent! You’re not far away from the Berlin TV Tower & Neptunes Fountain. There’s a great amount of night life & activity here so the whole experience feels very immersive. 100% we will return to this fantastic establishment!!!

We accidentally stumbled upon this charming restaurant where we tasted delicious German food. Special mention goes to the apple dessert, a true delight. The service was attentive, and the waiters were very helpful with their recommendations.

Affordable, traditional Berlin fare. I had meatballs with delicious braised pickles. Sitting outside and enjoying a Berliner Weisse is a great place.

Kartoffelhaus Berlin – Hearty, welcoming, delicious! A visit to Kartoffelhaus Berlin is like a short vacation with a very charming Berlin aunt – with a big heart, good food, and a waiter who has more jokes than many a comedian. Friendly, attentive, and always ready with a quick quip – picture-perfect service! I had the pork knuckle Berlin style – crispy rind, buttery tender meat, and the portion? Large enough to make a construction worker happy if necessary. A real hit in terms of taste! My wife had the steak – perfectly cooked, juicy, flavorful, simply perfect all around. She's rarely looked so satisfied… and at least I got to try it. Sure, the prices have gone up a bit – but let's be honest: where isn't that the case? The quality, portion size, and the Berlin charm more than make up for it. Conclusion: If you're looking for hearty German cuisine with a lot of heart and a healthy dose of humor, this is the place for you. We will definitely be back – if only for the pork knuckle (and the waiter)!

The food was good, but the prices were quite expensive. The service was a bit "sloppy". The place was nicely decorated.

The bar owners can't keep up with the rising prices for drinks on their menus. This is no different here. I was particularly shocked, though, by a portion of fries for €10!

The "potato" theme is interesting, with each dish you choose a different type. Particular German menu (in the sense that it is one of the few places we have been where you can eat real German), a little heavy and a little expensive (120 euros for 4 with two children for lunch with 4 dishes, water and beer). Nice and kind waitress who also speaks a little Italian. I would definitely come back for a visit, but I wouldn't eat there frequently.

Also good for small children. Especially the Milanese with baked potatoes and eggs, speck and potatoes

The decor of the restaurant is quite cozy. In summer you can also sit outside. When it comes to drinks, you can choose between beer/schnapps or non-alcoholic items (there is no wine at all). The food wasn't particularly tasty..... The mini burger for kids sounded really good....the optics looked really great to me and then some "meat" appeared that you couldn't enjoy! The usual freshness in the form of delicious cucumber/tomato on the edge of the plate is also missing...as so often. A good 1/4 of the rump steak was impossible to chew.....that's actually not possible..... Only Sohnemann was completely satisfied with his schnitzel. At least something.

Good place for a meal on a cold day...

Very centrally located to the radio tower / Alex. Old, rustic furnishings with a pub character. Staff “Old-friendly, Ur-friendly” Berliner. Food asparagus menu...was ok. Asparagus could have been served for another 2 minutes...a bit firm to the bite. But the schnitzel with it...Perfect. A bit annoying as a non-smoker...the smell coming from the divers in front of the door. All in all ok so far.

Simple without too many pretensions

You are warmly welcomed at the entrance, nice old German atmosphere. The service was more than friendly, very good food, a very large portion at a good price. Were very satisfied. Gladly again.

Very tasty traditional German food with a potato side dish. At the entrance you have to wait for about 30 minutes, even on weekdays, which only confirms the quality.

Horrible service! The lady who served was really rude. The staff had a horrible attitude. I went there for my birthday and had to wait for 20 minutes to place my order, no one really attends to you and then I waited for another 45/50 min for my food that never arrived. I ended up leaving the place without eating because of the service and the bad attitude!! The staff just couldn't be polite from welcoming us until the end. I DO NOT RECOMMEND

Were here this week. At first I thought the prices would be steep, but then the huge plates arrived! It was a bit greasy at times, but tasty. The restaurant is very quaint, the employee who served us was very nice and friendly. I had the turkey medallions, they were delicious, the vegetables also came with them and as I said, the portion was huge. The potato I chose was jacket potatoes with curd, a really good decision because the curd was very tasty. Drinks were a bit expensive but the toilet was also decent.

A very good restaurant! The place is cozy and beautifully designed. I really liked the concept of the menu — first, you choose your potato side dish, and then the main course. The food is traditional and delicious. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Alexi, was kind and funny, and he made sure we had a great time.

Visited twice. Food good(ish). Long waiting at the doors to get a table, unfortunately even longer waiting time to order food. Looks like restaurant is understaffed(?) on the second visit, even if the restaurant wasn’t busy we left after waiting 30 minutes to order with feeling that waiting staff simple ignore us…

Racism in restaurant? 1 person, around 9pm Waited in front of the restaurant fot at least more than 15 minutes because there was a sign. It was not full or busy clearly saw a few empty table, people coming out after meal. Servers never talked to me unless I asked. A couple came after me went in to the restaurant immediately after talking to a server, just in 5 min. Is it because I'm asian?

We were there in April 2024. From outside you wouldn't think that it is very authentic, rustic & very cozy. We had black pudding, liver & a large portion of "cold dog" - it was very tasty! Can be warmly recommended!

There is no Berlin.... Without Kartoffelhaus.! A must try! Very good food and great service.!

Yesterday a second attempt was made after a long time and unfortunately it failed again. When I go to a potato house, I expect that the dumplings are made from potatoes and not from mixed powder with a potato next to it. The grilled turkey medallions didn't see any grill either but came from the deep fryer. Likewise the children's schnitzel. Greetings to the chef: Schnitzel is still fried in the pan. Not recommended.

Ristorante a due passi da Alexander Platz, praticamente ai piedi della torre televisiva. Buon numero di coperti all’interno e possibilità di mangiare anche all’esterno. Servizio abbastanza cordiale, forse un po’ lento. Sono offerto piatti tipici della tradizione, per ciascuno dei quali si può scegliere un contorno di patate cucinate in 15 modi differenti. Qualità discreta, porzioni giuste, non abbondanti come spesso in Berlino. Discreti i currywurst e la schnitzel, buone le aringhe. Discreta anche la scelta delle birre. Vista anche la posizione, prezzi lievemente più alti della media. Per 3 piatti, 2 birre e acqua abbiamo speso quasi 90€ (mancia da aggiungere a parte).

Scegli un piatto dal menu e puoi abbinarci diversi tipi di patate, noi eravamo in cinque ed abbiamo scelto la classica cotoletta (super abbondante) con cinque diversi tipi tra cui patate americane, classiche, dumplings, pancake potatoes, rosemary potato. Personale gentile, servizio veloce, conto nella media.

Food and service impeccable. There is 1 star deduction for the dessert. 13€ for the cold dog is really over the top

Typical German restaurant. Well-cooked traditional dishes that can be paired with potatoes prepared in many different ways. Service a little slow but very friendly and kind. Good prices for a capital and for the location of the restaurant. The soups are good. Little choice for vegetarians apart from potatoes obviously. A few dishes for the children. Recommended for a pleasant evening in Berlin.

Typical, I recommend it. Well cooked and tasty Berlin cuisine, fantastic beers. Compliments to the beautiful waitress with the tattoos who was very kind!
