Ordered a Sarti Spritz and got an Aperol. Only when I asked was the reason given: "Sarti is sold out." It's worth a try. The pizza was cold, and the chanterelle mushrooms on top were even colder and watery.

We ate here three evenings in a row because we were so impressed by the food and especially the service. The waiter was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and prompt. We sat outside in the "vier" (area) right next to the building, at a table for two, with a cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Nice: The restaurant is downstairs. If you use the designated main entrance, you descend via a stone spiral staircase. Nice. Quite a unique atmosphere and worth a visit if only for that reason. You're immediately seated and receive plenty of attention. Think of it as a fusion of Italian and German restaurants. There's no background music, so you can easily have a conversation. The beer menu features the excellent beers from Köstritzer, such as Schwarzbier and Keller. A real treat. We had bruschetta and tomato soup for lunch. The bread with the soup was homemade and fresh daily. The soup had a distinctive flavor, which was nicely seasoned and therefore had a smooth texture. Seasoned with cinnamon, cloves, and ground coriander seeds. At least, that's what I experienced. I really enjoy it; it reminds me of dishes from the Middle East or North Africa. The bread on the bruschetta was crispy.

Yes, typical Italian cuisine... It was very nice there.

We were on the go and stopped in spontaneously. I had lasagna and tiramisu for dessert. The service was attentive, despite the busyness. It's not gourmet, but that's not what we were looking for. A good Italian restaurant.

We only ordered drinks on a Saturday. The place was busy. The staff were busy, aloof but friendly. When ordering, they confused a beer with a shandy, but it was easily corrected. Otherwise, everything was fine. Good value for money for the location.

The menu is very extensive. Pizza, pasta, meat, fish, ice cream, desserts, and coffee specialties. There's something for everyone. Some restaurant staff are very dedicated, others less so. A positive aspect is that one of the owners is always present in the restaurant, always ready with a friendly word or gesture.

We went to lunch with a group yesterday (August 3rd). The Christmas and Easter decorations were amusing. The service was excellent 👍, but the drinks were too expensive. The pizzas were ordered crispy, but unfortunately they weren't. My main course was a schnitzel with seasoned meat, fries, and salad. It tasted okay, but the salad was served on the plate 👎, the schnitzel (I estimate max. 120g) was frozen, mediocre quality, and the fries were very dark. For 19.80, it wasn't good. However, I've read some very good reviews here, so I can only comment on what I experienced.

A very centrally located restaurant on Gotha's main market square. It was nice and comfortable to sit outside. The service was very friendly and the food was delicious. I had a Ratskeller pizza. All the ingredients were fresh and the toppings were very generous. Highly recommended. My only criticism is that the beer was quite expensive at €5.90 for a 0.5 liter.

We went for dinner today, July 20, 2025, around 7 p.m. The service was excellent. Friendly. A concern was addressed immediately. The value for money was good. We were satisfied. The food was excellent, plentiful, and warm, or rather hot.

Restaurant Ratskeller Gotha, delicious Italian cuisine in the heart of Gotha. If you can't find what you're looking for here, it's your own fault. Friendly and welcoming service. We sat outside the restaurant and were able to watch the hustle and bustle of the city. There are so many delicious Italian dishes, it's hard to choose.

I sat in front of the Ratskeller on the lower Hauptmarkt square! Plenty of parasols provided shade! The food was delicious! The service team was very attentive! Nothing was missing! The interior is also very well maintained.

It's a very pleasant atmosphere to sit outside at the town hall, especially on a beautiful summer evening. Exceptional, a very nice end to the four-day trip to Gotha.

Top location, high prices. I ordered an ice cream, which wasn't served. Hence only 2 stars. A 0.33 l bottle of Coke costs €4.40.

I waited forever for the food. The waiter took the food back to the kitchen because he couldn't remember which table had ordered what. He came back 6-7 minutes later with the plate to serve it to me. I only tried one fries, and they were lukewarm at best. I returned the dish. No apology, nothing. Thuringian hospitality is a foreign concept there.

My wife and I had a very good ice cream 🍨, which really deserves a very good rating. The staff and ambience were exemplary, highly recommended.

It's a shame we can only give it 5 stars. Based on the overall impression and value for money, it deserves more. Everything is clean, the staff is very friendly, and it's centrally located. I'd happily recommend it. 😋👌

I'm not giving this restaurant any stars, whatever you call it, it's not what I asked for. I asked for a piece of bread, they sent me to the bakery, it was terrible, nothing more.

So, if you like bad food with bad service in an unkempt environment, this is the place for you! We spontaneously stopped in for dinner because, unfortunately, there weren't many options on a Monday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. The rump steak we ordered was okay, but it definitely wasn't the 300g we ordered. It also wasn't cooked to the requested degree. The "herb butter" served with it was neither herbs nor butter, and therefore not really edible. The same was true of the frozen vegetables served with it, which were placed on the plate immediately after being prepared in the fryer. The fat used to fry the fries had also long since reached waste oil status. The salt and pepper shakers placed on the tables are magnetic and stick to your hands due to poor hygiene. This also applies to oil and vinegar bottles, which are quite germ-infested and should urgently be disposed of as hazardous waste. The cutlery served with the meal was very poor. The bent knives, along with various residues and rust stains, indicate a past visit by Uri Geller. Polishing cutlery and glasses doesn't seem to be standard practice in this restaurant. On the other hand, cobwebs and dusty or uncleaned surfaces are apparently part of maintaining the ambiance of a Ratskeller at all times. It seems that as the first establishment directly on the main market, it's easy to present itself as a substandard restaurant, as a large portion of the customers are day tourists who, after a single visit, won't find their way back to this establishment. In contrast, the prices are comparable to those of fine dining... THANKS, NEVER AGAIN!!!

We had a good meal here on Saturday evening. The staff was very helpful, the food came quickly, and it was delicious. We had the schnitzel with spiced meat and the schnitzel with pepper sauce. The value for money is good. Two meals, two large drinks, and €50 is a reasonable price.

If you're in Gotha and want to stop by for lunch or dinner, this is the place to be. A mix of Italian and Thuringian cuisine. The service was great and the food was delicious. 😋

Very friendly staff 😀, very good food 👍 The only drawback, but the restaurant can't do that: the smokers who don't show any consideration and give out their smoke signals and scents without you asking me to.. that means not even still water tastes good 😔☺️😉

Unfortunately the visit was disappointing. My pizza was soggy, the seafood was greasy and hard. Even though I was hungry, 2/3 remained on the plate.

I was in Gotha today for Thuringia Day so I ordered coffee and cake, the coffee was good and the cake was frozen.

No, €2.50 for going to the toilet for people who weren't there to eat. Chewing gum stuck to the bottom edge of the plate. When paying, the waitress determined the tip herself.

The cream sauce tasted very sour, like a lot of lemon juice; otherwise unfortunately little taste.

We cannot recommend the restaurant. The waiter intentionally kept repeating my order incorrectly. I didn't find it funny nor do I understand the reason for it... Cappuccino lukewarm; the ice cream half melted and the pizza bread... well... a shame - considering the beautiful location.

The Ratskeller offers a large selection of German and Italian dishes. The food was very good and the service was friendly. The restaurant is nicely decorated and cozy.

Food wasn't great, waiters didn't even have change. It's a shame that such a beautiful place has such operators.

Unfortunately we had a very bad meal here. We had the roast with black beer sauce and the goulash. The meat was still ok, the sauce was pretty much the same for both dishes. The red cabbage was completely overcooked and had neither color nor taste and the dumplings were just cooked mush. Yes, the portions are very large, but what's the point if it doesn't taste good? The service isn't great either. There were only two of us, the drinks were brought completely wrong and unfortunately a meal too. Definitely not again.

The restaurant in the beautiful square was a huge disappointment. The salad tasted strongly of mustard, the potatoes were fried in oil that apparently hadn't been changed since it opened, and the schnitzel was soaked in fat down to the last crumb. The juices were more reminiscent of cheap, packaged fruit pudding than real drinks. Although we're really not picky eaters - this was inedible. It's shameful to run a restaurant with such food quality in such a beautiful location.

We were guests here last evening. We had a reservation, but in this case we would certainly have gone without it. The drinks were brought relatively quickly. The meal was eaten a little later. In total we waited almost 40 minutes for our food to arrive. Strangely, the side salad of my schnitzel had no dressing at all, or so little that after one fork the dressing was completely gone and the rest of the salad had to be eaten without dressing... The cucumbers had probably already been cut and waiting for us since the day before and were unfortunately very wobbly... The salad itself was fresh and had no brown spots or anything like that. Still, it's a shame... The meat was good and nice and tender. For me, the cream sauce could have used a lot more flavor. The fries were very good, but unfortunately very little if you were hungry. My wife's schnitzel with asparagus was good. Unfortunately, hollandaise sauce was not homemade. The asparagus was really well peeled and tasted good. All in all, not a restaurant we would go to again. Personally, we were very confused and irritated by the mix of local cuisine and Italian cuisine. I don't go to the Chinese restaurant to eat pork knuckles with sauerkraut either 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not recommended, I ordered a pizza on site to collect myself. After asking several times, I apparently forgot, then after about another 30 minutes I received my pizza and was rudely forced to give a tip. No appreciation for guests.

It promises more on the outside than it delivers on the inside. The food is so-so, and the service is rather unmotivated.

We weren't thrilled, the latte macchiato was tasty, the cappuccino with cream wasn't that great and the bruscetta was average. Bread toasted too hard, tomatoes barely seasoned. The biggest hit was the waiter, who wasn't particularly friendly and then charged 8 euros too much for the three things. So take this into account when ordering.

Have eaten better there before, pasta with duck...of which there was almost nothing to be seen...when it came to the game goulash I wasn't sure if it was the food I ordered, service was friendly, fast, courteous

I used to love going there, but today was the last time! Condition totally unfriendly and rude. The food, well, one contained cardboard and the other had the ham that tasted really strange. What a shame actually!!!

The food was good, the service was friendly. Unfortunately there were broken cloth napkins at my table. If you want to represent something, it doesn't leave a good impression. Then I'd rather use paper napkins.

Absolutely not recommended! My companion ordered a fish and seafood dish and then got fish poisoning and had to go to the hospital because of it. Unfortunately, the taste of my dish wasn't convincing either. I heard that the freezers here are defrosted at night to save electricity. That explains a lot.

Apart from the vault, this location has nothing to do with a Ratskeller. Mostly Italian food. Please stick with it, you might be able to do better. Pumpkin soup had more of a carrot flavor, the mushroom cream tasted more like powder soup. No recommendation from us.

My husband's meal was good. He had medallion with mushroom sauce and vegetables. Unfortunately my goulash was bland, the dumplings were too soft, red cabbage was okay. The service was very nice, but rarely present.

There were two of us there. The food tasted good. Unfortunately my beef roulade with red cabbage and dumplings was only lukewarm. My wife's pasta dish was forgotten in the kitchen and ended up being served after I had already finished eating. So that leads to this rating. It's a shame actually.

An all around positive experience. The location is appealing, the waiters are attentive and very friendly and the food is really recommended. The mushroom and pumpkin dishes in particular were a hit, big praise for the kitchen.

Unfortunately the food was an absolute failure. Quality and price don't match here. Tasteless and zero attention to detail. Cheese sauce with chicken, mango and tagliatelle underneath you can imagine something special. Unfortunately it wasn't, it was all a mess with no taste. The mango was carelessly arranged in huge pieces on top. Tagliatelle with mushrooms current season menu large pieces of fat in the food here too. In any case, we don't recommend this place; instead, we'd rather go to another Italian restaurant in town. In short, we've never had such bad food in Gotha.

First my main course of pork fillet with Championg was served to me incorrectly, about 3 minutes later it came again, but without my Championg sauce, I waited another 5 minutes for the Championgs, in the meantime the Pommers and the vegetables were cold. SORRY dear Ratskeller, unfortunately that was nothing.

The ice cream was average and very heavily colored. The waiters were nice, but I wonder why some of them have to be dressed up like a woman...
