Delicious food and an authentic restaurant

Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The portion was average, but the price was definitely far too high. Fried rice with beef and chicken cost the same. Definitely too expensive for chicken. Plus, the rice was quite sour. Two years ago, it was really good there. It's a shame it's gone downhill so much.

Leider stimmt hier inzwischen einiges nicht mehr. Die vielen guten Bewertungen von vor drei oder vier Jahren spiegeln aus meiner Sicht die aktuelle Situation leider nicht mehr wider. Seit diesem Jahr hat die Qualität geschmacklich spürbar nachgelassen. Viele Gerichte wirken sehr fad und einseitig. Oft schmeckt alles nach demselben Grundrezept, lediglich die Schärfe wird etwas variiert. Hinzu kommt, dass nicht immer alle Zutaten enthalten sind, die laut Speisekarte eigentlich zum Gericht gehören. Ich habe meine Kritik bereits persönlich mit dem Personal besprochen. Leider wurde dabei wenig Einsicht gezeigt, stattdessen gab es vor allem Ausreden. Das fand ich sehr enttäuschend. Zuletzt haben wir zwei Gerichte über Bolt bestellt. Die Lieferung erfolgte nach etwa 45 Minuten, was noch völlig in Ordnung gewesen wäre. Die Enttäuschung kam jedoch beim Auspacken: Eines der beiden Gerichte entsprach nicht dem, was wir bestellt hatten. Da wir großen Hunger hatten und das gelieferte Gericht zumindest ähnlich war, haben wir zunächst auf eine Reklamation verzichtet. Als wir dann jedoch feststellten, dass die Ente in beiden Gerichten extrem trocken, zäh und nicht mehr frisch wirkte, habe ich doch zum Telefon gegriffen und die Situation geschildert. Leider wurde keinerlei Lösung angeboten. Stattdessen wurde argumentiert, dass ein neuer Koch im Einsatz sei, eine andere Ente eingekauft wurde und die Gerichte ja „ähnlich“ seien. Eine Entschuldigung oder ein Angebot zur Wiedergutmachung blieb aus. Nicht einmal die Preisdifferenz zum tatsächlich bestellten Gericht wurde angeboten. Schade, denn wir waren früher gerne Kunden. Aufgrund der nachlassenden Qualität und des Umgangs mit berechtigter Kritik werde ich das Restaurant vorerst meiden.

War heute das erste Mal im Ban Thai und ich bin wirklich positiv überrascht! Das Essen war super lecker, perfekt gewürzt und man merkt sofort die Qualität der Gerichte. Die Portionen sind groß und die Preise dafür wirklich günstig. Das Restaurant ist total underrated und meiner Meinung nach mit Abstand besser als die anderen Restaurants in der Nähe. Man bekommt hier richtig gutes Thai-Essen mit authentischem Geschmack. Ich komme auf jeden Fall wieder!

Haben Schon viel da bestellt sind immer wieder voll zufrieden. Essen lecker kann ich nur zu 100% weiterempfehlen.

Wir waren über viele Jahre hinweg regelmäßig im Ban Thai und es war unsere ersten Adresse für eine gute thailändische Küche. Nach einer längeren "Auszeit" hatten wir heute richtig Lust auf die thailändisch und besuchten unser Standard-Restaurant. Bereits beim Betreten bzw. nach kurzer Zeit sind uns einige Veränderungen aufgefallen, wie ein angepasstes Servicepersonal, eine neue Servietten-Falttechnik (banale Änderung) oder eine optisch und inhaltliche neue Speisekarte. Zunächst haben wir dem keine große Bedeutung beigemessen. Allerdings zeigten sich die Unterschiede dann auch beim Essen: Die Frühlingsrollen waren anders als früher. Plötzlich waren große Mu-Err-Pilzen drinnen. Zudem war die damals sehr gute Soße auch überarbeitet. Insgesamt konnten sie geschmacklich leider nicht mehr mit dem früheren Niveau mithalten. Das Curry war nach wie vor lecker, wirkte jedoch etwas wässriger als wir es in Erinnerung hatten. Geschmack ist natürlich subjektiv – vielleicht gefällt die neue Ausrichtung ja dem einen oder anderen sogar besser. Im Nachhinein habe ich mich dazu entschlossen, die aktuellen Rezessionen zu lesen und scheinbar gibt es neue Besitzer. Das erklärt natürlich unsere Eindrücke. Wir werden dem Ban Thai sicherlich noch einmal eine Chance geben, allerdings mit angepassten Erwartungen. Eine uneingeschränkte Empfehlung für Freunde und Bekannte können wir aktuell leider nicht mehr aussprechen.

Nette Schärfe level für curries

wir haben bei Ban Thai über Lieferando bestellt. Nach fast 2,5 Wartezeit, haben wir im Laden angerufen und wollten wissen was mit unserer Bestellung ist. Die Dame am Telefon konnte kein Verständnis entgegen bringen und kaum deutsch sprechen. Nachdem weitere Zeit vergangen ist, hat es geklingelt, jedoch hat der Lieferant auf sich warten lassen. Als ich ihm dann entgegen gelaufen bin , habe ich gesehen, wie er das eingepackte Essen vom Boden aufgesammelt hat. Das Essen selbst hatte keinen bodenkontakt, aber die Soßen waren ausgelaufen. Ich habe es trotzdem angenommen und von allem abgesehen festgestellt, dass es überhaupt nicht geschmeckt hat. Alle Einlagen waren aufgeweicht, die Soßen nicht vorhanden und dazu auch einige Gerichte falsch geliefert. Für das Geld was wir bezahlt haben, war es miserabel und gar nicht zu empfehlen.

Ein Klassiker in Darmstadt, immer wieder gerne! Wer authentisch thailändische Küche sucht, is(s)t hier richtig.

Das Ban Thai ist ein bisschen in die Jahre gekommen. Dafür erfreut es uns seit Jahren mit gutem Essen und Service. Wur gehen immer wieder gerne hin. Mittlerweile sind die Kid's dabei und die finden auch immer was leckeres auf der Karte. Wir kommen gerne und können es nur empfehlen. Nur beim Essen und vielen anderen Dingen. Es ist Geschmackssache. Viel Spaß und Genuss beim ausprobieren.

Die Gerichte waren wirklich gut, aber die Cocktails waren enttäuschend; die meisten waren nicht voll, es fehlten Zutaten und sie bestanden größtenteils aus Eiswürfeln.

Ich war schon mehrmals im Ban Thai Restaurant und es war jedes mal einfach nur toll. Das Essen ist frisch und sehr lecker und die Atmosphäre gemütlich und entspannt. Absolut empfehlenswert, wenn man gutes thailändisches Essen in angenehmer Umgebung genießen möchte!

Katastrophal Khao Pad mit Hähnchen bestellt und der Angabe bitte Sriracha ich habe trockenen Reis bekommen mit warmen Gurken und genau 90 Gramm Hähnchen Und der Spaß hat mich 20€ gekostet Weder Hähnchen noch Sriracha Scam Laden

Wir waren zu dritt und leider wurde meine Hauptspeise vergessen — das kann passieren. Das nachgelieferte Essen hatte jedoch keinerlei Würze, das Gemüse war in Wasser erhitzt, das Hühnerfleisch schien nur in heißem Wasser gegart zu sein, das Gemüse war teilweise roh und die Soße bestand überwiegend aus Wasser mit wenig Gemüsebrühe. Ein Teil des Gemüses war noch roh, und das Gericht wurde nach einer Gabel zurückgegeben. Ich bitte darum, die Zubereitung künftig zu verbessern und die Gerichte angemessen zu würzen, sodass sie den Standards entsprechen. Andernfalls müsste ich überlegen, ob ich künftig woanders esse.

wir sind schon jahrelang Gäste in diesem schöne Restaurant und müssen auch beim letzten Besuch diese Woche feststellen,das die Qualität leider nachgelassen hat . wir haben wie immer als Vorspeise die Wan Tan Suppe bestellt und sie war früher absolut auch authentisch zubereitet - diesmal war sie eher lauwarm und es fehlte der Knoblauch und koriander - sehr entäuschend eine suppe für 6,50 euro ! das Hauptgericht Schweinefleisch curry musste auch nachgwewürzt werden - alles in Allem zu teuer für ein Mittagessen -wir werden in Da nächstens woanders essen und auch auf eine Reklamation verzichtet

Sehr Lecker, gute Preise und nette Leute

Wir waren heute leider nicht so glücklich. Das Pad Thai hat uns leider nicht geschmeckt allerdings jedoch das rote Curry. Der Service war gut, das Chang Bier lecker und auch die Atmosphäre ist sehr gut.

Leider kann ich dieses Restaurant nicht empfehlen. Ich hatte als Vorspeise die Chicken Wings, die stark nach Tiefkühlkost wirkten und insgesamt billig waren. Schon früh fiel der Service negativ auf: Es wurde keine zweite Getränkebestellung aufgenommen, und wir mussten mehrfach aktiv darum bitten, überhaupt noch einmal Getränke bestellen zu dürfen. Die Hauptspeise - Pad Thai mit chicken - ließ dann über eine Stunde auf sich warten, was den Abend zusätzlich getrübt hat. Geschmacklich okay, aber mit sehr wenig Hähnchen (drei kleine Streifen) Insgesamt war der Service sehr langsam und unaufmerksam, sodass wir uns als Gäste kaum wahrgenommen fühlten. Zudem flog während unseres Aufenthalts eine Fruchtfliege im Restaurant herum, was keinen guten Eindruck hinterlassen hat. In der Summe war das Erlebnis enttäuschend – für mich leider nicht empfehlenswert.

Das Essen kam erst 1,5 Stunden nachdem wir bestellt hatten und dann auch nicht alles, bis die letzten unserer Gruppe (5 Leute) ihr Essen hatten waren die ersten schon fertig. Keine Entschuldigung, kein entgegenkommen bei irgendetwas, insgesamt leider sehr unfähiges Personal. Man muss leider sagen, dass der Service eine Frechheit ist! Essen war geschmacklich okay, aber auch das nur teilweise und nicht bei allen Gerichten. Wir werden nicht wieder kommen.

Unbedingt Reservieren, mit mehreren Personen, sehr gut besucht. Bedienung sehr freundlich. Leider war das Lokal sehr gut besucht und wir fühlten uns nach unserer Bestellung ein bischen vernachlässigt, es gab keine neue Karte zum Nachtisch und auch keinen Kellner zum abkassieren. Bezahlung am Ausgang, Karte, Handy Bar, das ging sehr flott. So schnell das nicht mal ein Trinkgeld für den Koch drin war, sehr leckere Zutaten und nicht überschärft. Die Speisekarte hat gehalten, was sie versprochen hatte. Dezentes und sauberes Ambiente, auf alle Fälle noch einen Besuch wert.

Das Essen ist wirklich hervorragend, allerdings ist das Personal leider sehr unfreundlich – besonders gegenüber Familien mit Kindern. Wir wurden unhöflich behandelt, weil wir Kinderwägen dabeihatten, obwohl wir werktags mittags dort waren und das Lokal fast leer war. Auch unsere Getränke wollte man uns nicht servieren, da es angeblich „zu umständlich“ wegen der Kinder gewesen sei. So gut das Essen auch war: Wegen des schlechten Service werde ich nicht mehr dorthin zurückkehren.

Wir sind immer gerne hier gewesen. Seitdem wir Eltern sind, sind wir hier unerwünscht. Genervte Blicke aufgrund des Kinderwagens. Plötzlich sind sie nicht mehr fähig zu bedienen nur weil ein Kinderwagen in der Ecke steht. Mittags ist der Laden nicht voll. Somit steht der Kinderwagen auch nicht im Weg! Essen schmeckt super, aber leider ist der Service mit Kind einfach nur unverschämt. Dass die Bedienung beim Abkassieren ungefragt das Trinkgeld auswählt und dann so tut als wäre es der falsche Kassenbeleg möchte ich garnicht erwähnen.. Schade!

I've been going to Ban Thai for around 25 years and have always been able to recommend the restaurant in good conscience because the food is authentic and delicious, and the staff are friendly and efficient. It was always a bit like being in Thailand. A lot has changed here over the last few years. The menu has stayed the same, but the owner, chef, and staff have all clearly changed. The quality and taste of the food have declined, and the service is incredibly poor and overwhelmed. I'm so disappointed, especially with the service! Friends strongly advised me not to eat there today, but I wanted to see for myself and ordered a dish that I often order. It was OK, but nowhere near as tasty as it used to be. We had to make a real effort to order and get drinks, as well as to get the table cleared and to pay. Hmm, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. What a shame!

The appetizers (chicken satay skewers, spring rolls) were okay. The service was very nice and friendly! The duck and beef for the main courses were so abysmally poor (disgusting and inedible!) that we won't be coming back!

We were actually very satisfied up until now. Now there are new chefs: The Tom Yam Gai was no longer spicy or reddish. The waitress said "it's probably missing chili oil" and the chefs needed a transition period, but she'll pass it on. 🤷‍♂️ ? The duck with fried egg noodles, okay. The noodles were completely tasteless, the duck crispy but almost cold. Too bad, we won't be coming back for a while...

Finally, a Thai restaurant where you don't get a stomach ache after eating Pad Thai! There are plenty of vegan options.

Today we went out to eat again and, as always, were looking forward to the food. Unfortunately, this time it was a total disappointment. I'm adjusting my rating from 5* to 2*. The quality has declined considerably. When I inquired, I was told that a new chef was now working. I hope things will improve. What a shame...

Freundlicher Service und leckeres Essen, dazu einen Thai-Eistee, was will man mehr. Etwas Luft nach oben ist noch, aber ein Besuch lohnt sich definitiv. Tisch vorbestellen ist wichtig, denn hier ist es abends immer voll.

Unfortunately, this evening wasn't a brilliant performance. Firstly, the drinks took a very long time to arrive, and secondly, 25% of the food was forgotten. The food arrived so late for three people that the first person was almost finished by the time the second person received their food, and the third person's food was completely forgotten. Unfortunately, the taste wasn't great either. Rather below average. I hope this was just a very bad day and others have better experiences.

I always order Pad Thai to go..unfortunately the quality has gone down a bit for the same price..no longer the typical Pad Thai as I know it..a pity...it used to be a bit wider noodle and nicely fried..this time it was like a normal fried noodle 🥴

Been going there for few times now. Always ordered the same thing and loved it. This time, the rice was undercooked. I tried a few spoons and I couldn’t eat it. Mentioned it to waitress and response was “we don’t have other rice”. No solutions, alternatives, nothing . Paid and left hungry.

A very authentic Thai restaurant. You feel like you're in Thailand. You can sit at a regular table or take a "Thai table" and sit traditionally on the floor (with comfortable cushions, of course). The food was delicious and truly authentic Thai cuisine! They even offer vegetarian and vegan dishes, so everyone is welcome and can enjoy the delights of Thai cuisine. The staff was also very friendly, helpful, and extremely hospitable. They had no problem with any special requests and always made sure everything was in order. I highly recommend this restaurant! You're missing out if you haven't been there! ;)

Warning! Parking is almost nonexistent! Hence, another point deducted for that! Now for the food... the food was really great! I can recommend it, but what I didn't like was the wait to get a seat... and then they sat us right next to the restrooms. The smell was so awful... The chicken curry was delicious. Finding a seat, ordering, and paying—everything went smoothly. The portion was just too large. A curry is best eaten by two people. The restaurant's interior is beautifully decorated. But it's located in the ugly part of Darmstadt. So, it's best to look inside ;)

This was the first restaurant I tried when I came to Darmstadt while looking for a good curry spot. The food was super tasty and the portions were generous. I especially loved the curry and pad thai. The Thai lemon tea is my absolute favorite drink. The place gets quite busy, so it’s a good idea to book a table in advance.

Super tasty, super nice and great dishes

On Friday I was in this restaurant and ordered a curry. Unfortunately, the food was relatively tasteless and very bland - the sweet and sour sauces tasted like water. Since I wasn't particularly hungry, I only ate a little of it. There was therefore a large amount left in the curry serving bowl (more than half!), while there was only a small portion on my plate. As we were about to leave the restaurant, I asked the waiter to pack up the rest of my food - especially the curry and rice in the bowls. As I said, I had eaten less than half of my curry. The waiter assured me that he would be happy to do that. However, when I got home, I noticed that he had only packed me the small amount from my plate - but not the curry and rice, which was still in the serving bowl, even though I had asked for it. I'm stunned... For a dish that costs over €20, I expect not only more taste, but also that what I didn't eat is given to me in full and not just the little leftovers on my plate tiny storage container... I find that absolutely outrageous. You pay a lot of money for a mediocre curry here and are then deprived of the food you paid for. I definitely won't visit this restaurant again. Value for money and service are simply disappointing here.

Great atmosphere, nice waiters and the food is really tasty. Authentic spiciness and especially the starter platter for several people is recommended! The furnishings are quaint, space between neighbors is sometimes a bit tight. 8.9/10 would visit again.

Ban Thai is an outstanding restaurant. I have never eaten such authentic Thai cuisine in Germany. The papaya salad is particularly recommended. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants! The ambience and the friendly staff also contribute to a successful meal. 5 stars!

The dishes are an interpretation of Thai cuisine. Too salty with an aftertaste that could have been baking soda. The cocktails are an expensive joke. They consist of a glass filled with ice with a background drink. Disappointed .

Pretty good overall. The dishes were quite good for a more than reasonable price. However, they are not really spicy, even if described as such. The service was rather average with an impatient server. The atmosphere was good but there was a strong smell from the kitchen and it was a bit heavy in the room. I still recommend eating for lunch because of the good prices and hearty dishes.

I visited this store today and unfortunately I have to say that it doesn't suit my taste or that of my companion either. The starters (chicken skewers and beef skewers) were hardly seasoned, the sauces for the starters were very diluted and not really tender, but rather bland. The main courses were poorly seasoned and unappetizing. The chicken in the dishes was only cooked and barely or not at all fried. All in all, I won't visit this store again. The prices take some getting used to and tend to be too high for what you get. Nevertheless, tastes are different and I ask everyone to convince themselves of this.

I recently visited the Thai restaurant “Ban Thai” in Darmstadt and have to say that in my opinion it is the best Thai restaurant in the city. I've been a regular for some time and have already tried various curry dishes. Each one was a complete delight and always impressed me with its taste. The flavors are beautifully balanced and the freshness of the ingredients can be clearly tasted. We also particularly recommend the Thai iced tea, which is perfectly prepared here with its refreshing note and is a highlight every time. The ambience of “Ban Thai” is another reason why I always like to come here. The interior is lovingly and traditionally Thai, giving the restaurant a cozy and authentic atmosphere. I would particularly like to highlight the seat recesses, which offer a great alternative to conventional tables and chairs. They are perfect for smaller groups of up to four people and create an intimate, relaxed seating area that I personally really appreciate. Another plus point is the excellent service. The staff are always extremely friendly and attentive without seeming intrusive. They ensure that you as a guest feel completely comfortable and contribute significantly to the pleasant atmosphere. The location of the “Ban Thai” in downtown Darmstadt is also ideal. The restaurant is easily accessible and is ideal for a visit after a stroll through the city or a day at work. All of these factors together make Ban Thai an outstanding place for me to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Unfortunately that was nothing! Beer and water more lukewarm than really cold. The supposedly crispy duck turned wobbly in the sauce, as did some of the mushrooms. The beef dish with beans was completely lacking (tasteless and the meat was tough as a shoe sole). Despite returning one dish, we had to pay for everything in full, and there was at least a verbal apology. We won't be coming back.

Wir waren am Donnerstag da ( 01.08.24) Seitdem geht mir schlecht. Ich habe Durchfall fühle mich nicht gut . Das Essen haben wir gleich bemerkt das es überhaupt nicht frisch war ( Reis , Curry ) Der Reis war so zusammen geklebt , matschig, und hat man geschmeckt das es von mindestens Vortag war. Curry war auch nicht besonders und hat alles irgendwie nach Alt geschmeckt. Wir waren zum erstmal da , und wollten wir nicht gleich was sagen . Vor allem wir werden sowieso nie wieder hin .

Don't order a salad!!!!!!!!!! You get soup with coriander flavor. I waited 45 minutes for a salad that wasn't even good??!?!?!!!?!?!

By far one of the restaurants in the area. My opinion: definitely worth a detour!
