We had the Wiener Schnitzel, and it was the best Wiener Schnitzel I've ever had. The breading was beautifully souffléd, and the veal was tender and thin. The bérnaice sauce was amazing, and the fries were crispy and delicious. Even the bread that came first was great. The meal is definitely worth every euro.

We had an incredibly disrespectful waitress. Dirty looks, gossip about our table between colleagues, etc. After she spoke to us condescendingly, I wanted to speak to the boss, but instead of the boss, the shift manager came over. He shouted at us in front of all the other guests and was very insulting. He came very close to me and bent down, so I stood up and asked him if he knew what he was doing and if he should take it down a notch. The waitress and the shift manager argued loudly with us without stopping. At some point they both left and we were no longer served. Then we asked for the bill and left. We didn't get a chance to finish our bottle of wine. When you go to a restaurant, you want to switch off. We couldn't. I was there often and enjoyed myself until yesterday, but I have never experienced such a way of treating guests. I've been in the restaurant industry for 8 years, and I've never treated a guest like that... An hour later, BOTH were arguing with the next guests.

We were already sitting at a table, just the two of us, when more people joined us over the course of the evening. The table was large enough, and we were by no means a nuisance to other guests. But as soon as the last of us sat down, the owner stormed over. He attacked us in such an aggressive and rude manner that we were stunned. He claimed we were harassing the neighboring table, which was simply nonsense. Nevertheless, he ordered us to move, even though it was physically impossible. To top it off, he grabbed my cousin, which made the situation even more provocative and outrageous. I travel a lot around the world and have experienced a wide variety of cultures and service qualities in countless cafés and restaurants, but I have never encountered such bottomless insolence. The owner's arrogance and rudeness are truly unbelievable. Save your money and your nerves and avoid this place. It's an absolute disaster that I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

The young people had barely sat down when an employee approached our table and introduced himself as owner Klaus Peter Michel. However, according to the imprint, this was not the case, and in our opinion, his appearance did not suit this person either. The employee addressed our relatives in a very firm and, in our opinion, provocative manner, telling them not to "spread out" and not to disturb other guests. He also briefly touched our cousin's arm, which we considered inappropriate. Instead of seating us together as a group of nine in a friendly manner or finding a solution for everyone, our family was immediately turned away – even though the people sitting next to us said their seats would be free shortly. We had the impression that our presence was not welcome. Unfortunately, our objection did not receive a customer-oriented response. Overall, we felt disrespected. In our experience, those who value hospitality and professional service will likely be disappointed here.

The owner was extremely rude. I was insulted, threatened, and even treated with racism. Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable. Customer friendliness and respect should be a given – unfortunately, the opposite was the case here.

It's completely incomprehensible to us that guests are treated this way. Anyone who values ​​hospitality, respect, and professional service is definitely in the wrong place!

A rather nice restaurant with a "Berlin of the 2000s" feel. Since Cologne isn't a trendsetter in interior design/architecture, it gets 3 stars for its old-school industrial look. The restaurant is quite crowded, which speaks less for the restaurant than for the lack of gastronomic diversity in Cologne. Like a crowded pub in a village, a Balthasar in Cologne is packed, but it would certainly be different in Paris, Berlin, or London. Apparently, the lack of choice is what allows the staff to display an unparalleled arrogance. How can a waiter, representing the host, treat a 30-year-old guest who's out to dinner with his wife as if he were the king of the 120-square-meter realm? The prices for the food don't reflect the quality and are apparently driven solely by demand and profit maximization. Additionally, as in Greek tourist areas, a flat rate for bread is charged per person. ``` Yes, that's €2 x 100 per evening x €30. Tourist trap? That's how cell phone stores calculate, not hosts. Don't they earn enough from a €12 tart? Arrogant service with a high-priced menu that serves cuisines from around the world. From kebabs to sashimi, to US steak and French cuisine... This really only happens in non-metropolises and small towns. This will be our last visit, because I really can't see anything that could justify a return, plus the service begs you to stay away.

A very nice restaurant/bar right on Aachener Straße. The service is very competent and friendly. The breakfast menu (until 4 p.m.) is varied and delicious. Balthasar also offers many delicious dishes for lunch and dinner. Later in the evening, the restaurant transforms into a bar with a pleasant atmosphere and well-mixed cocktails.

For me, Balthasar is simply one of the most beautiful restaurants on Aachener Straße. :) Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I'm always incredibly satisfied. The ambiance is fantastic, and the service is super attentive and friendly. Keep up the good work!

The Baltasar at Aachener Straße 18 is a great restaurant in a very popular area. Parking is a bit difficult, but the visit is definitely worth it. The service was extremely courteous and attentive – we felt at home from the start. I was there this evening with business associates and we ate inside. My Black Angus fillet with mashed potatoes and a fresh salad was excellently prepared and a real highlight. The ambiance is very pleasant and stylish – perfect for a business lunch, but also for private evenings. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable visit – I highly recommend the Baltasar, and I would gladly return.

The tortelloni were okay, but nothing special, and unfortunately not worth the €21 price tag. The drink prices are also significantly inflated; for example, a 0.2 liter Coke costs €4.20, and a 0.3 liter fruit juice spritzer costs €5.50.

What beautiful people work there – both externally and internally. With a keen sense of touch, genuine warmth, and a broad smile that is contagious. Every encounter was attentive, light, and warm – you immediately feel welcome and cared for, without any fuss. And then: the salad. A poem! Fresh, harmonious, with a dressing that doesn't overpower, but rather enhances. Lovingly presented, thoughtfully composed – here you can taste the quality and artistry on the plates. Simply delicious! The Balthasar manages to create a stage for enjoyment in the heart of the city – without any frills, but with plenty of style and soul. Every moment there was a little gift. And we left with the feeling: Everything is just right here. Big city flair, culinary finesse, and service that touched me – the Balthasar is a place you won't forget. We were delighted. We visited this restaurant on Saturday and had made a reservation in advance. Unfortunately, I had accidentally reserved a high-chair table inside, but the staff was very friendly and moved us without any problems. Because of the heat, they even brought us a fan – truly attentive service! The service overall was excellent – very polite and accommodating. The food was simply amazing, especially the meat salad, which was incredibly delicious. The cocktails were also very fresh and flavorful. Overall, a great experience – we'll definitely be back!

Yesterday evening, July 12, 2025, I was at Balthasar with a friend. We were seated outside at 9:20 p.m., ordered espresso and water, and then decided whether we wanted something to eat. After about 10 minutes, the waitress came over and asked us if we wanted something to eat. We said we'd think about it. She then explained that only guests who were eating were allowed to sit outside, and that this was until 10:00 p.m. at the latest. We said okay, we'll see. After about 20 minutes, a Mediterranean waiter with shaved head suddenly appeared and, in a rather aggressive tone, demanded that we pay and leave. When I asked why we absolutely had to get up, he became very rude and said, literally: "Son, just accept it and get up, don't argue." The situation escalated further; the waitress came over and accused us of "teasing" her because we hadn't ordered anything to eat. Even two older ladies at the neighboring table were completely irritated by the staff's behavior and told us they absolutely couldn't understand it. We finally offered to order a bottle of wine, but we didn't want to just leave because we hadn't eaten. The staff immediately blocked us and basically threw us out. Conclusion: I understand if there are rules about sitting outside. But the tone and aggressiveness of the staff are completely unacceptable. As guests, you want to be treated with respect – unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. Very disappointing, especially because Balthasar is actually one of my favorite restaurants.

The “Balthasar” has been our regular restaurant for many years… even though we initially went to Sülz, of course. We feel very comfortable there and the food is extremely tasty. The prices are a little above average, but absolutely reasonable. It's a really chic place, in a trendy area (Belgian quarter), with a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere. The staff is without exception nice, friendly and accommodating. We can fully recommend Balthasar.

As a tourist, I was really looking forward to enjoying a nice evening, but unfortunately, the experience left me disappointed. We ordered both starters and main courses at around 8:10 PM. The starters didn’t arrive until approximately 8:40 PM, which was already quite slow. However, the real issue was with our main courses. By 9:20 PM, we still hadn’t received them, so we asked the waitress about the delay. Her response was a series of excuses: that they were busy with outdoor tables and that we were supposed to inform them when to proceed with the main course. This was never communicated to us beforehand, and frankly, made little sense—especially when the table next to us, who ordered well after we did, had already received their food. When we raised this point, the waitress claimed that the other table hadn’t ordered starters, which again felt like just another excuse rather than a genuine explanation or apology. Worse, she insisted that “this is how things work in Germany”—a comment made in front of my friends who have been living here for over eight years and knew this was not true. Even after all this, at 9:45 PM, we still hadn't received our food, and no effort was made to apologize or offer any form of compensation. When the food finally came, it was fine, but certainly not worth the two-hour wait and the poor service we endured. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing evening. Good food means little when the service and communication are so lacking.

What really irritated me, however, was the way my dog ​​was treated. When I asked for a bowl of water in 30-degree heat, the waiter initially refused – out of concern for the floor inside. Only after discussion did they finally give me a bowl, which was placed under the table. In a modern, supposedly dog-friendly restaurant, a water bowl should really be a given on a hot day. Conclusion: If you appreciate good food in a stylish setting, you'll find what you're looking for here. If you also value genuine service and hospitality – especially in the details – you might, like me, wish for a bit more attention and warmth.

Der Service hier ist wirklich aussergewöhnlich gut und freundlich. Das ist heutzutage wirklich eine Seltenheit. Auch wenn es voll und stressig ist, sind alle sehr bemüht, aufmerksam und freundlich. Das Essen ist sehr frisch und es gibt meist für jeden Geschmack etwas. Auf Allergien oder Sonderwünsche wird versucht einzugehen, auch wenn sich das leider etwas schwerer gestaltet, da vieles vorbereitet ist (z.B. Saussen oder Eingelegtes). Auch können mal Fehler unterlaufen, allerdings werden dieser sehr charmant und aufmerksam gelöst. Die Atmosphäre ist gerade im Sommer, wie überall auf der Aachener Straße, trubelig und heiter. Es gibt immer etwas zu gucken und man ist einfach im Geschehen. Dennoch sitzt man in seinem Bereich und kann in Ruhe essen. Also auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Vor allem das Brot und das Olivenöl sind ein absoluter Genuss. Allein dafür komme ich gerne her :P

The unfriendliness, arrogance and disrespect that is offered here can hardly be put into words. You are not greeted or received in a friendly manner, no, you are insulted, treated condescendingly and feel as if you are a nuisance with your mere presence. Courtesy? None. A smile? Doesn't exist. Willingness to help? On the contrary, you have the feeling that every question, every request, every word is too much. It seems as if the staff has a personal interest in scaring away guests; there is no other explanation for this dismissive, almost aggressive attitude. The team outside in particular, and I emphasize here in particular the women who are responsible for allocating seats, shines with a mixture of ignorance and irritation that is unparalleled. You are shouted at, reprimanded, treated in a tone that lacks any form of hospitality. It seems as if friendliness and service were a foreign word there, or worse, deliberately unwanted. Even if you ask politely, you will be dismissed brusquely. Questions about a place are brushed off or met with an annoyed roll of the eyes. You get the feeling that you are not a guest but a troublemaker. And this is not an isolated observation; this behavior was consistent and consistent over several visits. I seriously wonder how a business can survive with such behavior towards paying guests. A café doesn't just live from coffee and cake, but from atmosphere, from warmth, from people who fill it with life. But Balthasar only offers one thing, frustration. And from the first minute. Conclusion: If you value respect, hospitality and a pleasant stay, you should definitely avoid this café.

As I walked to my seat with a drink in hand that I already had with me, I was immediately confronted by him. Instead of politely pointing out that I shouldn't bring my drink, I was attacked in an extremely rude and aggressive tone. It was completely unnecessary and disrespectful. I calmly explained that I already had the drink and had already ordered something, but he didn't seem to care. Even worse: When I told him that I was a regular customer and had eaten here several times, he didn't believe me. He said he knew every regular customer personally and couldn't remember me. It felt like my words had no meaning and he treated me like a stranger who didn't follow the rules. When I then asked if I could speak to the boss, he replied that he was the manager. He explained to me that "manager" does not mean "boss" and then sat down in an inappropriate, almost mocking position. That was so unprofessional and unnecessary. He just made me uncomfortable with his behavior. It was as if my presence in the restaurant was a thorn in his side. I not only felt uncomfortable, but downright discriminated against. In the end I just had to leave because the whole incident took such an emotional toll on me that I'm crying now. I definitely cannot recommend this restaurant, especially because of the unprofessional behavior of the manager. I certainly won't come back and advise everyone else to look for a place that treats its guests with respect.

We ate schnitzel cordon bleu with fries and salad (just under €17) and a vegetarian dish with hummus and baked eggplant strips from the lunch menu. Overall, the food was mediocre and the prices were self-confident, that is to say, the price-performance ratio was not impressive and was probably due to the location and the rental prices prevailing there. I am charged €9.70 for a bottle of still water. The restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. Parking garages nearby. Cappuccino €4.40 and my flat white €5.40. The service is good and the kitchen works quickly. Outdoor seating.

A TOP address for steak fans! Very tasty steaks, great selection and excellent service. This was my third time eating out and I'm looking forward to enjoying a steak here again when I'm back in Cologne!

The three of us had brunch on Sunday morning and overall had a nice time. The service was extremely friendly and quick. The food was fresh and delicious, everyone at the table loved it. However, we found the portions a bit small in relation to the price, which is why we deducted one star. The atmosphere was wonderful - so pleasant that we stayed longer and treated ourselves to something sweet. A place with a great atmosphere and good food, even if the price-performance ratio has some room for improvement.

Very large 'trendy' New Wawe restaurant in a street where there are actually a lot of restaurants. Long room, very lively (a little too much! A little noisy). Varied menu offering many different dishes, without any specific features. You have to try. Young and friendly service. An excellent address!

Very friendly staff. The waitress didn't write down the order, just remembered it. We ate a starter, each a beef fillet (1x medium, 1x medium+) with different side dishes and a dessert. The meat was well fried and overall very tasty. The music was a bit too loud for us. I wouldn't want to sit in the entrance area anymore because it can get hectic there sometimes. Therefore one star deducted from the overall rating, but recommended.

Have been there many times for dinner or breakfast. The Eggs Benedict are fantastic. The service is also quite quick.

We had reserved a table and were 15 minutes late. The waiter received us and lied to us by telling us that he had called us several times and that we were 30 minutes late and then they gave the table away. Celebrated a reunion with the girls with breakfast at Balthasar. Table reserved (a day in advance, so only got a slot for 2 hours). Ambiance is great, selection is great. In addition to organic eggs, a good selection of freshly squeezed juices also made my heart beat faster. Whether savory or sweet - there's something for everyone. Service was super nice and on point.
