Balkan-Grill in Großefehn

Gestern Abend waren wir mit Freunden das erste Mal hier. Der erste Eindruck ein super schönes und rustikales Restaurant mit tollen Flair. Wir waren gegen 19:30 Uhr da (wir hatten einen Tisch für 6 Personen vorbestellt) und es waren schon fast alle Tische besetzt, also gut besucht. Eine super freundliche Begrüßung durch den Chef der uns gleich zu unserem Tisch geleitet hat. Einen kurzen Plausch gab es auch und wir haben dann zunächst einmal Getränke bestellt, da noch 2 Freunde fehlten. Auch diese kamen kurz nach uns und wurden ebenfalls freundlich begrüßt. Zum Einstieg gab es erst einmal den leckeren Julischka Dann ging es an unsere Bestellungen. Die Speisekarte ist im guten Rahmen erstellt ... nicht zuviel Auswahl aber für jeden Geschmack diverse Varianten vorhanden, so das jeder das für sich passende Gericht finden konnte. Uns persönlich ist eine gute übersichtliche Karte lieber als 1000 verschiedene Gerichte bei denen man sich dann nur schwer entscheiden kann. Die Wahl viel zuerst auf verschiedene Vorspeisen und als Hauptgerichte verschiedene Grillteller, eine 2-Personenplatte und auch die Scholle mit Beilagen kam zur Auswahl. Es hat ein bisschen gedauert bis das Essen serviert wurde, aber aufgrund des "randvoll gefüllten Restaurantes" war die Wartezeit völlig in Ordnung. Es gab erst auch einen super leckeren Salat nach den Vorspeisen bei dem die Wartezeit gut überbrückt werden konnte. Die Portionen waren üppig, das Essen war super heiß und geschmacklich super. Das Fleisch zart, reichlich Beilagen, Pommes und Reis ebenfalls super und das Gemüse hatte guten Biss, so wie es sein soll. Alles in Allem top. Aufgrund der üppigen Portionen ist bei dreien von uns eine kleine Portion Fleisch übrig geblieben, aber das haben wir uns zum Schluß einpacken lassen und haben es mit nach Hause genommen. Schlußendlich Preis / Leistung stimmt, tolles Ambiente, der Chef und auch das Personal sehr freundlich, aufmerksam, geht super auf spezielle Wünsche ein und ist für einen kleinen lockeren Smalltalk zu haben. Alles war aus unserer Sicht top und wir hatten einen schönen Abend bei Euch ... und es wird auch nicht unser letzter Besuch gewesen sein. Was wir auch noch sehr positiv fanden war, trotzdem das Lokal richtig gut besucht war, war die Atmosphäre angenehm und nicht so laut so das man sich am Tisch gut unterhalten konnte. Das haben wir anderweitig leider schon ganz anders erlebt. In diesem Sinne macht weiter so Ihr seid Klasse und wir können Euch nur weiter empfehlen. Liebe Grüße von den "Etzeler Anglern"

Am 21.06.2026 war ich allen vor Ort und habe einen Grillteller gegessen. Ich wurde gefragt, ob ich rote Sauce oder Tzatziki dazu haben möchte. dies wurde von mir verneint, da üblicherweise Zwiebeln dabei sind. Es gab einen Haufen Fleisch ohne Zwiebeln. Absolut unmöglich fand ich, dass um mich herum jeder beim Bezahlen einen Julitschka angeboten bekam, mir jedoch keiner angeboten wurde. Der Wirt hat anscheinend gleich erkannt, dass ich wohl auf der Durchreise bin. Nachgefragt, ob ich noch etwas benötige wurde auch nicht. Der Wirt hatte mehr damit zu tun, sich laut mit weiteren Gästen über Fußball zu unterhalten.

Super Essen, tolle Bedienung und klasse Ambiente

Sehr enttäuscht, keine karten Zahlung möglich gewesen am Wochenende, wurde uns aber nicht bei d.Bestellungen mitgeteilt. Musste dann um 23uhr eine Bank suchen um Bargeld zu holen ...leider hatte meine Bank geschlossen und ich musste eine andere suchen 10euro extra zahlen. Meine frau hat eine stunde auf mich warten müssen im Balkan Grill sie war der Pfand so wurde es belächelt. Ich bot vorher Überweisung Echtzeit Paypal usw an darauf sagte man nur nur Bargeld geht. Wir gehen schon viele Jahre dort hin man ist also bekannt dort. Der laden ist stress pur für Angestellte und gast. Sowas geht garnicht ! Wir kommen nicht wieder!

Wie immer, netter Service und sehr leckeres Essen...

Das Restaurant profitiert davon, dass es in Großefehn nicht viele Alternativen gibt. Das Essen ist zwar absolut in Ordnung, aber hat auch seinen Preis. Ein Klecks Tzatziki und scharfe Soße werden jeweils mit 1,80 Euro extra berechnet - wegen dem Alleinstellungsmerkmal kann man es sich erlauben. Das Ambiente ist ansprechend,wenn man nicht in einem der Nebenräume sitzt.Über eine Stunde Wartezeit auf das Essen könnte man auch mit einem zusätzlichen Schnaps entschädigen,aber wie oben schon erwähnt: Alleinstellungsmerkmal,die Leute kommen ja (wahrscheinlich) trotzdem wieder.

5 Sterne sind noch zu wenig! Wir gehen seit über 13 Jahren zum Essen zum Balkan Grill, es ist ausnahmslos immer alles PERFEKT. Das Essen schmeckt hervorragend, der Inhaber ist sehr herzlich und nett, genau wie die Angestellten die immer dafür sorgen das man sich willkommen und wohl fühlt, sowohl als Erwachsener Gast als auch als Kind. Unser absolutes Lieblings Restaurant, nicht zu toppen! Vom Dinner zu Zweit, als Familie bis hin zur Unternehmensfeier - einfach anstandslos und absolut empfehlenswert!

The food has improved compared to a few years ago. It's annoying that they don't tell you that red sauce and tzatziki cost extra. Others offer them with the dish and it's included in the price. Hence, one star deducted.

This evening, on September 27, 2025, we were at the Balkan Grill again with six people after booking. It was a very nice evening, starting with the polite welcome, the attentive, friendly, and entertaining service, the very good and delicious food (the price/performance ratio is right here), and the overall ambiance of the restaurant. For me personally, everything was perfect! I highly commend the kitchen and the entire team. We'll be back. Thank you!!

Very nice Balkan restaurant. Grilled meats, salads, and rump steak are all freshly prepared. Salads, garlic butter, and tzatziki are homemade. Everything is delicious and well-seasoned. Very friendly staff and service. Excellent value for money. We will definitely be back.

Addendum to my review from a year ago: We were with you again today, and I have to say, it was wonderful again. I've never experienced such a welcome with a toddler in a restaurant before. The service was truly great. The food was also very tasty again. We'll continue to be loyal to you. ;) If you want to eat very well in a quaint restaurant, this is the place for you. The value for money is very good. The service is also great and always kind and friendly, with little funny sayings. They're also super nice to children, where others might be hesitant. The food is always amazing. Tzatziki is a must as a starter. ;) We always enjoy coming back and will continue to do so :) PS: Changing facilities would be great :) It wasn't a problem for us, though :) We're flexible in that regard :)

We ate there twice during our vacation...very friendly service and the food was simply good. Very plentiful and absolutely delicious. We'll definitely be back next vacation 👌👌👌👌 Update after several visits. The food was still perfect...simply delicious. Although the portions have become very small. Regardless, it tastes good. Unfortunately, the friendliness decreased after each visit...we didn't feel comfortable at all last time. I think they were more tolerated guests who were taking the space away from the regulars.

We really wanted to go out for dinner on a whim, and there were eight of us. No problem, we could come by. It was in the evening and on a Friday. Super friendly staff! Great atmosphere, absolutely delicious food! We'll definitely go back.

First of all, I'm of the opinion that if something is good, it must be mentioned and said or written. However, if it was exceptionally bad, as in this case, and this was the case from the very beginning, then this must also be said. Let's start at the very beginning: If you reserve a time for a large birthday party at 1 p.m. and are then greeted by the announcement that you should hurry up and sit down quickly because you want to take your lunch break at 2 p.m., I would have considered it advantageous to mention this when booking so that you can find an alternative. However, we were denied this opportunity. I conclude that you just want to make a quick buck, and what happens next doesn't seem to interest the operator much. A good meal also includes a convivial gathering, free from a tight time frame that only makes you rush around and leaves no room for any conversation accompanied by joy and laughter. As soon as we sat down, we realized that the tables and seats were too small. So everyone got up and moved to other tables, which were quickly pushed together. I found it unbelievable that I had to carry my own napkin and cutlery. I didn't come to do it myself. Honestly, if I had been there alone, it would have been too much for me at this point, and I would have left. The annoyance of the announced break was still in my bones and made my blood boil. In addition to a lackluster ambiance that exudes the charm of the 80s, the food also left much to be desired. A salad that consisted only of cabbage and beans and was, in the truest sense of the word, tasteless and also poorly presented, was followed by a main course that was simply bad in its entirety. A Djuvec rice that wasn't one, and as a Berliner who has sat and dined with various Yugoslavians, Croats, Serbs, etc. for almost 45 years, I know what I'm talking about. The amount of rice was also a joke; it could easily fit in an egg cup. The cevapcici, however, far surpassed the misery: barely seasoned and, worst of all, barely fried!!! Truly bland and tasted bland. The ones that were packaged for us to take home later found their abrupt end in the trash, where they belonged. I've never had to write such a bad review before; if you want to take the time, you can read my other posts. However, it's important to point out to other potential guests what to expect. The operator should be advised to revise their overall concept in order to offer these people, and especially their guests, an experience that encourages them to return. Under the conditions I, or rather, we, encountered, this will definitely not be the case. In summary: Service: You get kicked out after an hour (even if they're on a break—sorry, I don't care. I'm a guest and I was given this time for a birthday party; the rest doesn't interest me). Atmosphere: Dark, cold, tables poorly decorated, and by no means festively set. If it had been smoky, it would have truly had the feel of a pub. Food: The worst thing I've had served at a Yugoslavian restaurant in 45 years. As a restaurateur, you should know that what you eat is what you see!!! Tasteless and few side dishes. A true Hiroshima when it comes to culinary delights. My advice would be that the chef should really find another hobby 😉 Conclusion: We definitely came here twice, the first and the last time 😡 Attracting customers and guests and retaining them long-term, sorry, there's another way!!!

We'd rather give no stars!!!! Even though we had a reservation for a 70th birthday party, we had to wait 70 minutes for our food. The reason given was that a larger group had arrived ahead of us and that the snack bar would be quicker. Conclusion: The restaurant didn't pay attention to the delay, and there was no julischka (no julischka or anything for the kids, in general). When paying, the change of approximately €7.20 was only given upon request. Tables belonging to the other group were rearranged even though we were eating. Not recommended; the food was poorly presented, and children were reprimanded if they pressed the bell once. Dogs were not allowed (we were aware of this).

Very delicious food, beautiful ambiance with stones and candles. The staff is also very friendly. At the end of the meal, you get a small shot of schnapps, which I think is a great way to wash it all down.

I went to the Balkan Grill again after a long time. Unfortunately, some of the meat on the robber's plate was very dry and, for my taste, a bit poorly presented. The fries and Djuvec rice, on the other hand, were good. The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy but could be improved. I also think it took too long since it wasn't busy. Even for the appetizer, we had to wait almost half an hour, and that was just bread with tzatziki. Nevertheless, I'll be back and choose a different dish.

The food was delicious, the staff friendly and accommodating, and the price/performance ratio was right. The only thing that was missing was the Kaisergemüse (a vegetable dish) that was probably frozen. I would have preferred fresh vegetables. But that's just complaining at a high level.

I was here again after a long time. The food was absolutely subpar. The tomato soup didn't taste like tomato just like broth. The meat was well over done and completely dry. That was 4 plates for all of them. Even the waiter noticed it, but didn't do anything. Croquettes were way too dark and everything was way too salty. I had heartburn from it. We waited 2 hours for the food and were still charged the full price. Very disappointing. Not recommended. But the service was very friendly.

Searched for a Balkan restaurant for a long time after our regular restaurant closed. It's really delicious here. Service very attentive. Every km driven from Schortens there is worth it. Tested today and definitely not the last time. Not every Friday like usual, but definitely more often.

Was totally disappointed. Starter Tatziki and bread totally over-seasoned as well as the salad and the beans. Had two skewers with croquettes which lay carelessly on the plate without any decoration. The eye actually wants to eat too. Meat like a shoe sole lukewarm and bland in taste. One had too much pepper, the other had no seasoning at all. I cannot recommend the restaurant and will not go there again.

I am more than positively surprised by our visit! Although we went into the restaurant without a reservation and were worried we wouldn't get a seat, we were lucky enough to get a table - and in such a busy place! The service was extremely friendly and didn't in any way intrusively ask us about our well-being, which we really appreciated. The drinks came quickly and the waiting time for the food was absolutely acceptable. The food was even better than we imagined - simply perfect! I enjoyed every bite of my dish. The other guests who were there with me were also very happy with their meals. The only downside was the “salad” as a starter, which was a bit too spicy for us. But the main course more than made up for it! We will definitely come to eat here more often. Thank you for a great experience!

Here is my rating for the Balkan Grill in Großefehn: I was recently invited to dinner at Balkan Grill with a couple of friends. Since I really like Balkan cuisine, we chose this restaurant. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to my expectations. The service was friendly, but nothing special. What was noticeable, however, were the long waiting times from ordering to serving the food, which somewhat spoiled the overall impression. The food itself was okay, but it didn't convince me enough to make me want to travel 30 km again. Overall, a solid restaurant for the area, but with potential for improvement.

I have to be honest and say that I can't quite understand the four to five star reviews from others. When we were in the restaurant it was busy, but the ambience wasn't too great. We didn't get any salads, they were simply forgotten, the sauces only came after the meal and were only brought to the table when asked. The food itself wasn't that tasty. The rice was too bland and the meat was too tough and too dry...probably because there is no real cook in the kitchen. The conditions all have tunnel vision, some of them unfriendly. I won't set foot in this restaurant again!

2 ordered food outside the house, unfortunately the meat was very dry and lacking in spices. dcevapccici and minced steak the same meat and taste braised onions too dark therefore also bitter. Jugo rice overcooked and tasteless. Sauces ok but also cost extra. Overall we didn't like it and won't be ordering again anytime soon

We have known Balkan Grill since childhood. Always delicious food, lovely people and a relaxed atmosphere. We always like to come back :-)

We just had dinner there. So far everything was great, then when paying with the credit card the waiter/boss with an accent freaked out, shouted and said something impossible. Because of paying by credit card!!!!!! I have never experienced anything so unprofessional and disrespectful in my life. Shame on you !

There's not much to say there. Simply a real Yugoslavian from the furnishings to the food! Price performance ok.

Hello, we ordered pickup for nine people today. Unfortunately, our anticipation was not confirmed. The reception in the restaurant was very nice, the waiting time was bridged with schnapps. Unfortunately, when we got home we discovered that the food didn't live up to what it promised. The meat was dry and hardly seasoned, the fries were not crispy but rather tough. For 150€ for 5 children and 4 adults, it's clearly too much money for too little service. It's a shame, especially when you read the previous reviews.

About the food: Average food with nothing special is offered. But the taste is okay. The price-performance ratio was balanced. Only the standard sauces (spicy and tzatziki) now have to be paid for. But...you don't have to take them. The service was perfect. Very attentive and friendly staff. It should be emphasized that almost all tables are in separate areas, so that overall the noise level is very low and there is sufficient privacy. Unfortunately, there are very few parking spaces available.

We ate there yesterday and everything was simply not edible!! Fries were disgustingly fried in old fat, the meat was burnt and dry. All I can say is total rubbish, never eat there again!! It couldn't be worse!!

We were there on Sunday January 28th, 2024. So we thought something new would also have good reviews. The service is ok, but the food is not good at all. There was no taste on the grill plate, everything tasted the same, like nothing. The liver is tough and dry. The hottest thing is that there is an additional charge of €1.50 each for the red and white sauce on the bill, which is certainly not possible for the quantity. For us the first and definitely the last time.

Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed this time 😞 Waiting 1.5 hours for the food wasn't exactly great. We had ordered plates for 2 people each and there were 6 people there. Everything used to be great when it came to eating, hence the disappointment! This time (meat was dry and tough, rice was cold and hardly any taste, fries were cold and hard.

Das ist ein tolles Lokal um mit Gruppen z B. Weihnachtsfeiern, Geburtstage dort zu feiern. Das Ambiente bietet viel Privatsphäre, die professionelle und lustige Belegschaft hat einen guten Unterhaltungswert und die leckeren Speisen (für jeden etwas dabei) runden das ganze ab. Wir kommen immer wieder gerne!

Wir hatten viel Gutes gehört und haben es selbst ausprobiert. Für den 17.11.23 hatten wir für 13 Uhr einen Tisch reserviert. Es hat sich für uns und den Wirt gelohnt und alle waren zufrieden. Unser Sohn hatte großen Appetit und aß eine Gulaschsuppe vorweg. Sie hat ihm sehr gut geschmeckt, gute Einlagen und nicht zu scharf. Meine Frau nahm eine Portion Zaziki mit hausgemachter Kräuterbutter auf einem mit Knoblauch gerösteten Baguette. Sehr gute Idee und auch schmackhaft. Danach gab es - Balkan Leber – sehr flach geschnitten, zart und gute Röstaromen - Balkan-Platte für mich mit scharfer, roter Soße, alles sehr zart und große Portionen – mir hat alles sehr gut geschmeckt - Räuberteller – etwas für den großen Appetit -auch die Pommes waren lecker und knusprig. Alles war auf den Punkt gegrillt – nichts verbrannt. Auch die Getränke kamen prompt vom aufmerksamen Ante. Die Unterhaltungen mit Norbert und seinem Freund rundeten den schönen Mittag ab. Vielen Dank ! Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Ein wirklich guter, konservativer Kroate. Sowas gibt es dort, wo ich herkomme leider nicht mehr. Besser als viele Restaurants in Istria. Echte Empfehlungen für leckeres Essen.
