I like the tapas concept. On Wednesdays, there's a discount on bottles of wine from the lovely wine list. In winter, the room can be a bit chilly.

We visited for the first time on Sunday and were absolutely thrilled. Very friendly and attentive staff, incredibly delicious dishes, and not the typical platters you get everywhere else. You could taste the high quality and freshness. The slightly higher prices are definitely justified. We'll definitely be back!

The food was excellent. The staff was super friendly, and they didn't skimp on the ouzo either.

Top-notch restaurant. Not exactly cheap, but very good. Once you understand what you're doing, it's great. The waiter explains everything very well. I'll be happy to go there again if I'm in Passau again.

I'd been wanting to go to Avli for several years, and when we were recently in Passau, my partner and I took the opportunity. We were really looking forward to it—we had made a reservation in advance. The first impression, however, was disappointing: Upon entering, the bar was hectic, stressed waiters were rushing around, empty glasses were left at the counter and on side tables, and the service seemed overwhelmed. There was no warm welcome—we were simply shown to our tables without a smile or a few friendly words. The food was mixed: some dishes were really very good, others rather average. However, for the prices, I would have expected a consistently high standard, especially since the portions—even within a sharing concept—were rather small. From a professional perspective, I know how important consistency in quality and service is—there's still room for improvement here. Conclusion: Unfortunately, the ambiance and service didn't leave the impression we had hoped for. The culinary experience was both up and down—for the price and the restaurant's reputation, we expected more. In the end, we paid €85 for two people, even though we didn't order much – and unfortunately, we left the restaurant without a smile.

Yes, yes, yes! It's rare to find such a good concept. This is the place for people who value good food. It's amazing how well and with such detail the cooking is done at Avli. Nothing is ordinary. If you're looking for a village plate with gyros, souvlaki, suzuki and rice, you should prepare yourself for a completely new experience here. Mezze and main courses can be combined as desired and the desserts are out of this world. We prefer to eat out less often, but the quality is higher. The prices are absolutely reasonable compared to what you're offered. The ambience at the top of the village is wonderful. Tonight on this balmy summer night it was like a little mini vacation.

Appealing tapas concept with many traditional dishes. Very friendly and attentive service. We had the "Let the Greeks Do It" surprise menu and were delighted. Excellent value for money, but definitely on the high side. The surprise menu was great for getting to know the menu, but on our next visit, we'd rather order individually from the menu. We paid just under €300 for four people.

The location, service, and especially the food are excellent. The three of us tucked into the menu. All three of us were quite hungry after a long motorcycle tour. The value for money is also good. 5 stars and we'll definitely be back!

The menu is very misleading. You have to put together the individual dishes and side dishes yourself. This makes the restaurant visit too expensive for what you get.

The concept of preparation and serving makes it a culinary journey. I can highly recommend the platters.

Only popped in for a cheeky pint of beer on Saturday evening. The guy who came to our table wasn’t too happy at 9 pm. Looked like they’re ready to close down 😂 The atmosphere was great with the view of the river. No music, only quiet people all around. At 10 pm one of the writers came around and told to everyone: ‘Gute Nacht-Good Night’ 😂🤷🏻‍♂️ We got the hint, paid the beers and left the place soon. Well, consider it yourself .

The food was ok. Service was a bit rude when ww asked about details on the menu. The food was bland, not hot, no flavor, no love put into it. I would truly recommend a different place. Seems they want customers in and out as soon as possible. And it didn't taste greekish to me. So booooooo to this establishment!

We were in Passau during our bike tour and stopped here spontaneously. The tapas concept is fantastic. We received a very warm welcome and had a great view of the Danube. The food was the best I've had in a long time. A must-visit when in Passau.

Schönes Lokal an der Donau, netter Service, griechisch im Tappas Style oder auch als Menu für 2 Personen. Alles war sehr lecker auf schönen Tellern, die Dorade wurde filetiert, und haben alle Gerichte sehr gut geschmeckt. Das Brot war warm und das Zazicki cremig, wir kommen wieder.

Hier kann man zum Essen gehen ... Das Essen war gut bis lecker. Pita war "anders", aber lecker... Bauernsalat war lecker Dorade (vom Grill) war lecker, etwas viel Salz Bratkartoffel waren ok Tzatziki war lecker Calamari (vom Grill) tolle Konsistenz, waren gut, mussten etwas nachsalzen Zucchini als Puffer auch lecker, mal etwas anderes Wie man erkennt, hatten wir zu 2 das Menu Stefania(?!?) Wir hatten gut Hunger und wurden gut satt Preislich eher gehoben, würde sagen 15% weniger hätte besser gepasst, aber ok freundlich, aufmerksames Personal Lage ist gut in der Altstadt, Ausblick von der Terrasse auf die Veste Oberhaus hat was :-) Uns Schiffsanlegestelle nicht gestört die 3,9 Sterne im Moment sind sicher zu wenig, unser Erlebnis heute 4,3 um den Schnitt zu heben gebe ich heute 5, das nächste mal dann 4

We spontaneously went to the restaurant on a Friday evening. And were served with a stunning Greek meal. The tappas concept is fantastic. The food is not your run-of-the-mill Greek food, every single plate is a pleasure and of the highest quality. We would also like to have a Greek like that at home. We're always happy to come back.

Were very positively surprised. Since I was only in Athens a short time ago, it is really authentic to eat like this. In other Greek restaurants it's always so overloaded for me, but here even vegetarians or, like me, who like a lot of vegetables with chicken, can enjoy full culinary delights. Overall it was a nice restaurant and the food was good too. But in terms of price, I think the restaurant is completely overpriced. You can/have to put the dishes together yourself, you just order the components/side dishes separately. Ultimately I just wanted a gyro with fries and tzatziki; this then cost around €30. The quantity and quality of the food were absolutely right, but unfortunately it was way too expensive.

Really good! Huge selection of warm and cold, including vegan starters (instead of the same old grilled plates), great service, prices a bit high but more than okay for the service. One of the best addresses in Passau. :)

In fact, I have to say that this is one of the best Greek restaurants that I had the opportunity to taste outside of Greece. Fresh ingredients, authentic recipes in high quality. Very nice and funny service, we will definitely go again.

Die Lage ist wirklich schön und die Menschen im Service super nett. Die Tische im Außenbereich bräuchten eine Überarbeitung und die Stühle dazu sind zu niedrig. Die Mezze Mahlzeiten sind zu überschaubar portioniert, die gefüllten Kalamari zu klein geraten und die Füllung sparsam, geschmacklich gut. Das Gyros gut, aber zu fade gewürzt, Salat OK, Brot noch OK, Tzatziki sensationell lecker! Wir waren mit dieser Variante des Mezze nicht zufrieden, dies haben wir schon bei wirklich traditionellen Griechen, deutlich besser erlebt und zur Preisgestaltung muss man einfach den Ausblick hinzuzählen und dann ist es noch viel zu teuer für diese Leistung. Gerade noch 3 Punkte, da der Service sehr aufmerksam und freundlich ist.

The location is really nice and the people in service are super nice. The tables outside need a makeover and the chairs are too low. The mezze meals are portioned too manageably, the stuffed calamari are too small and the filling is economical and tastes good. The gyros were good, but seasoned too blandly, the salad was OK, the bread was still OK, the tzatziki was sensationally delicious! We were not satisfied with this version of the mezze, we have experienced this much better with really traditional Greeks and you simply have to add the view to the pricing and then it is far too expensive for this service. Just 3 stars because the service is very attentive and super friendly.

Have been to a few Greek restaurants in recent years, with Avli in Passau having the best fish and vegetable dishes (calamari & squid). Gyros was also one of the best, as was the service and the view of the fortress.

We looked at the menu online and decided to visit this restaurant. I was looking forward to a mixed appetizer platter. Then the disappointment in the restaurant. The menu a pad on the table. Not a mixed starter, but can only be ordered individually and is relatively expensive. In contrast to the menu, the main courses come without any side dishes. My Bifteki for almost €16 without any side dishes wasn't exactly cheap either. The side dishes have to be ordered separately and are too expensive in terms of quantity. I also wanted to drink a wine with the meal, but the back of the menu only showed beer and soft drinks. Because of the pricing, I decided not to drink wine and just drank beer.

We were at Avli for the second time yesterday and didn't regret the visit. A very nice waiter accompanied us throughout the evening. After we decided on our meal, which was served in the form of tapas, it didn't take long at all until we had the delicious plates in front of us. We enjoyed the delicious food in a cozy atmosphere. All in all, a lovely evening with great food and nice hosts, which ended well with two delicious ouzos each.

That's definitely not how Greece eats. All the tables outside were apparently reserved. Even though the restaurant was more or less empty, we were squeezed between two occupied tables. Normal conversation was not possible The price notice at the front had different prices than on the menu The menu is misleading and the explanation given by the waitress leads you to order more than you actually want. The quantity doesn't match the price. Bifteki consists of bread with zero mince. The gyros and the meat from the skewer were like rubber. My wife is Greek and actually knows what it should taste like. Now it's clear why it's better to eat at home. You felt ripped off after the visit. Shame about the money

Wir sind zum Abschluss unseres Passau-Aufenthalts zum Griechen gegangen, der lag bei uns um die Ecke. Wir hatten nicht reserviert und bekamen dich noch eine letzten Tisch. Gleich zu Anfang eröffnete uns der Wirt, dass Suvlaki wegen grosser Nachfrage aus sei. Wir haben trotzdem was gefunden. Melizanosalata und Fava habe ich noch nie gehört, das musste probiert werden, dazu gegrillte Calamari, frittierte Calamari, Grillgemüse und Bratkartoffeln. Auf der Speisekarte wird betont, dass griechische Esskultur bedeutet, dass man alles zusammen auf den Tisch bekommt und Essen zum Gemeinschaftserlebnis wird. Das wurde es auch, alles hat aussergewöhnlich geschmeckt, sehr sorgfältig zubereitet. Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Alles in allem ein sehr gelungener Abend.

Super nice staff, food also delicious, but for what you get, the prices are more than outrageous. Mini portions, no one gets full, there were three of us and we paid €100 and left hungry. Just as an example, a small bowl of calamari without everything €22. We won't go there anymore.

We ordered a dry white wine and got a Moschofilero🤷, a very good Greek white wine. We had gyros, tzatziki, tomato salad, French fries and... Ordered pita bread with garlic. Maze😊🤗everything to share👍. Let's get to the gyros.😊 Fun, very very tasty 😋, Meat is not too dry and tastes excellent👍❤️. One of the best gyros we have eaten.👍 The portion is also sufficient. Put the tzatziki in a small bowl, simply delicious😋, garlic just right👍and with a little olive oil. Very harmonious with the gyros.👍Top. Erst mal das Positive: das Essen schmeckt gut, der Service ist auch ok. Jetzt kommt leider das Aber: Wenn ich in diesem Preissegment unterwegs bin (pro Person 60 Euro mit nur einem Getränk), dann erwarte ich mir mehr Raffinesse bei den Gerichten. Es sollten Speisen sein, die man so nicht bei der Konkurrenz bekommt, die außergewöhnlich sind. Außerdem wäre es nicht schwierig, wenn man aufs Haus eine Karaffe Wasser und ein bisschen Brot auf den Tisch stellen würde. Natürlich weiß man, dass diese Lage teuer ist, dass auch ein Kellner nicht umsonst arbeitet und man Lebensmittel teuer einkaufen muss. Nichts desto trotz passt hier Preis Leistung überhaupt nicht. Für einen normalen Schokokuchen fast 14 Euro, fast 10 Euro für eine Weinschorle, das ist einfach zu viel, für das, was man geboten bekommt. Schade.

Be careful, vegan dishes are not vegan according to the waiter. Pork barely cooked through. Gyros of poorer quality than at a folk festival. Last but not least, you can queue up to pay like in a snack bar

Expensive and not enough quantity

We ordered SOUVLAKI ELLINIKO, pork neck skewers. The meat was gristly and too salty for our taste. Added to this is the very high price structure. A pity.

Greek restaurant of the absolute highest class. You have to bring a big wallet with you, but if you want such quality you can (or have to) demand something. However, please note: only "mezze", i.e. starter-sized dishes, are served here, so you need 2 - 3 per person to really fill you up. Anyone who insists on the German custom of "every person gets their own plate and then maybe a salad" is definitely wrong here. Of course you have to like that. I like it very much. Especially in this almost unbelievably high quality.

Wir waren zu zweit beim Abendessen im AVLI. Wir haben uns für das Alexandra Menü und eine Portion gegrillte Calamari entschieden. Das Essen war gut. Das Fleisch vll etwas zu salzig. Es muss auf jeden Fall dringend die Preispolitik überdacht werden. Wir haben für das Essen plus zwei Getränke insgesamt 90€ ohne Trinkgeld bezahlt. Ich habe nicht wirklich einen Unterschied zu anderen preiswerteren griechischen Restaurants bemerkt. Deshalb ist es meiner Meinung nach zu teuer. Dieses Restaurant macht nur als größere Grippe Sinn, damit man die verschiedenen Gerichte probieren kann. Für mich ist ein absolutes No-Go, dass das Küchenpersonal vor der Küche im Gebäude geraucht hat. Der Service war bemüht. Als Pärchen werden wir das Restaurant nicht mehr besuchen.

Ich mag dieses Lokal sehr gerne. Die Qualität des Essens ist sehr gut. Preislich muss diese Qualität bezahlt werden und man muss pro Person ca. 35-40 Euro rechnen. Megagutes Gyros! Mir haben Freunde das Lokal empfohlen! Danke!

Unser Lieblingslokal! Wir konnten hier dankenswerterweise auch unsere Hochzeit feiern und freuen uns jedes Mal wenn wir Freunde und Familie ins Avli mitnehmen können, die das Konzept noch nicht kennen. Die Freude wenn der ganze Tisch voller kleiner Teller mit Köstlichkeiten steht ist bei allen immer aufs Neue groß :) Unbedingt ausprobieren - die Qualität der Produkte rechtfertigt den Preis.

Das Essen ist sensationell, ebenso wie der Service, das Personal ist sehr zuvorkommend und nett und helfen einem auch wenn man das erste mal beim Griechen isst. Da wo wir gesessen sind hat man noch nen super Blick auf die Flüsse gehabt, der Abend war sehr entspannt und Sättigend.

Dem Anspruch, der etwas "andere Grieche" zu sein wird das Lokal nicht gerecht. Positiv zu bewerten ist die Möglichkeit lauter kleine Portionen ("Mezze") zu bestellen und somit viele Speisen kosten zu können. Allerdings sind diese kleine Portionen völlig überteuert. Die Qualität des Essens ist mäßig, z.B. fettige, knorperlige Fleischstückchen bei den Souvlaki, viel zu dicke Brocken, die als Bratkartoffeln bezeichnet werden, die Gigantes schmecken als würden sie aus der Dose kommen, also etwas besonderes ist es jedenfalls nicht. Insgesamt kein gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Außerdem sehr laut (mangelhafte lärmschluckende Raumgestaltung), so dass ein Gespräch als Paar unmöglich ist. Wir waren mehrfach in diesem Restaurant, somit entspringt unser Urteil nicht einem Einzelfallerlebnis.

Authentische und qualitativ hochwertige griechische Küche. Die Speisen sind attraktiv angerichtet. Sympathisches Ambiente.

Der etwas andere Grieche... keine Fleischberge sondern Essen im Mezze-Stil d.h. kleinere Portionen die in die Mitte des Tisches kommen und jeder darf von allem probieren! Essen qualitativ und geschmacklich top und dann doch wieder ausreichend damit man auch richtig satt wird. Preislich natürlich teurer als man vom 08/15 Griechen gewohnt ist, aber Preis-Leistung dennoch gerechtfertigt

Ein "Grieche" im besten Sinne. Verschiedenste kleine Gerichte zum Teilen. Alles frisch und super lecker. Netter, sehr schneller Service. Definitiv den Preis wert. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Authentische griechische Meze, sehr lecker! 🇬🇷

Ein griechisches Restaurant in sehr guter Lage in Passau. Gelegen auf der Mittelinsel, direkt an den Anlagestellen mit Blick auf die Oberveste von Passau. Beim ersten Blick auf die Speisekarte vor dem Restaurant hätten wir den Besuch fast nicht gemacht, die Preise scheinen doch ziemlich hoch. Gleich vorweg, das wäre ein schlimmer Fehler und gastronomischer Verlust gewesen. Für mich ist dies das authentische griechische Restaurant das ich außerhalb Griechenlands je besucht habe, und das waren dank meiner griechischen Frau schon einige😜 Das Essen wird hier im Meze Stil angeboten, kleine Speisen, mehrere aussuchen und Essen wie in Griechenland. Alles mitten auf den Tisch und jeder greift dahin wo er mag. Das erste souvlaki das ich in Deutschland bekommen habe das es verdient das man es als griechisch bezeichnet, aus dem Schweinenacken über Nacht mariniert, knusprig gegrillt und innen saftig. Wir mussten das Restaurant gleich zwei mal besuchen um halbwegs allen leckeren Sachen eine Chance zu geben gegessen zu werden. Für weitere Besuche fehlt leider die Zeit, nicht die Auswahl an tollen Gerichten. Bitte bitte bitte ändert absolut nichts an dem wie ihr das Lokal betreibt, mehr griechisch außerhalb von Griechenland geht nicht. Zum Schluss nochmal zu den Preisen, die sind für diese top Qualität absolut gerechtfertigt und wer es nicht zu schätzen weiß gute Produkte auf den Teller zu bekommen...... der sollte sich vielleicht einfach was anderes suchen und nicht das Restaurant nur aus Grund der Preise abwerten.
