AVAN in Berlin

Agree with Dirk Böttchers review. Perhaps good for office people nearby but not for business luncheon. Food average quality. Tables tiny.

We were visiting Berlin again and had to go to AVAN again. We were really looking forward to it and were not disappointed. The food was once again delicious (we wanted seconds!). The service was very friendly and accommodating. And all at very reasonable prices. We're already looking forward to our next stay in the capital and will definitely go back to AVAN.

The restaurant is okay, nothing special, but you can eat there quite well. To order something, you have to go inside; no one comes outside.

High expectations based on the reviews, but the experience was a bit disappointing. The uramaki and nigiri were average, the tofu pho was very good, and the cocktails were low in alcohol but pleasant. One dish was served with another dish added, but no specific information was given. This caused a misunderstanding, perhaps also due to the language gap, which led us to order again—and rightly pay—for the dish in question. The restaurant communicates directly with the Gat Point Charlie Hotel, where we were staying.

Good for lunch break, but sometimes you have to wait longer.

This place was fantastic. The Pho was amazing. Good flavors and good portions. Service was good. Could’ve been a little better but wasn’t bad by any means.

We were looking forward to visiting this restaurant based on the good reviews, but unfortunately we were disappointed. Even though we had a reservation, the seating seemed rather arbitrary. After we had already had drinks at our table, we were asked to leave because it was supposedly reserved for other guests. We had to carry our drinks into the restaurant ourselves and even get cutlery and napkins to set the new table ourselves. There was no table service. It was only from other guests that we learned that you had to write down your order and take it to the kitchen yourself. While the food arrived quickly, the "tender chicken with coconut milk" was relatively disappointing: lots of rice and salad, but hardly any meat. Finally, we received an incorrect bill – we were charged for two dishes we hadn't ordered. The error was corrected, but overall, it left the impression of extremely poor service. Conclusion: Despite good online reviews, we unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant.

Pho tastes exactly like in Vietnam

Quite frankly, very, very good. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's well-prepared, tasty, and refined. Plus, it's good value for money.

We were at Avan for lunch, and on this day, the menu was perfect. My son had avocado maki – unfortunately with sesame, which he didn't like, and unfortunately, it wasn't indicated anywhere. The food was served promptly, but it took a while for our order to be taken, even though the place wasn't busy. The staff were friendly and attentive, and overall, the value for money is good. If you like Asian fusion cuisine, this is a good place, where a few small details could enhance the experience even more.

One word: FANTASTIC! They are extremely kind, and helpful. We were very pleased with our visit last month, and we visited again today. My wife and I chose the Chicken Udon Noodle again and were not disappointed. All the flavors and cooking levels are just as they should be. The 'vodka' they served with a big smile after dinner was also wonderful. We're talking about whether this should be our dinner choice every day we stay in Berlin, because they have so many dishes to try, and they all look delicious.

The option to put together a bento box with three or four different dishes is great. This guarantees individual variety. It tastes quite good, and the price-performance ratio is good. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside. Everything would be fine, but unfortunately, the service was inattentive and not particularly friendly. The next table was served the wrong dish, and instead of an apology, there was incomprehensible grumbling. I had to ask for the bill twice, and after it took a really long time, I went inside to pay. This is Berlin.

Very nice service and the food is very tasty

Very tasty, the glass noodle salad with ground beef and Laotian curry were great! (€10.90 each in August 2025) Aperol for an unbeatable €5.90 Lemonade and iced tea also available, all in all, highly recommended! The service was a little strange at first, but nothing dramatic. It just took a while to order and there were brief misunderstandings, but everything we ordered was eventually on the table :)

A beautiful restaurant in the center! Everything was extremely delicious, a lovely atmosphere, and friendly staff. Wonderful sushi! We plan to come back and order it for home. Thank you very much!

Good Asian cuisine, pleasant staff

The food here taste great and flavourful. The shrimp tempura was crispy and the batter was light. The fried spring roll was bursting with fillings. The only drawback was the fried glass noodles were a little too salty for me. Otherwise, for food, it would have been perfect.

A highly recommended Vietnamese restaurant! The food was fresh, aromatic, and perfectly seasoned. The service was also super friendly and attentive.

Very delicious food with authentic taste.

After being treated exceptionally courteously during a purely informal visit, the decision to visit this restaurant with my girlfriend last night was an easy one. Although we had to wait a bit to be served, the sushi we ordered and the homemade lemonades were delicious! Fresh, flavorful, and the fried rolls were nice and warm and crispy despite the delicious sauces on top. We were especially pleased with the baked banana! This certainly won't be our last visit :-)

Delicious food and cool concept. Instead of having a full portion you can also choose 3 small versions of the same food and make a box. Also the prices were very good, roughly 20 euros per person for the meal, drinks and desert during dinner time.

Great restaurant, the location is perfectly central yet secluded. It was nice to sit outside without the hustle and bustle of the city. The food and service were perfect. There were six of us (without a reservation), and a table was immediately made for us. The food was fresh, and we had a few special requests that were accommodated without any problems. The menu offers something for everyone, with many vegan options, and dishes can also be prepared vegan upon request. All in all, definitely worth a visit!

Enormous portions so be careful not to fall for the “eyes bigger than the stomach” trap. Highly nutritious and tasty soups, interestingly served udon, popping right in front of you 🤪😂

The many positive reviews piqued my interest. The reception was rather chilly, but I was able to sit outside. The menu is varied and definitely leaves you wanting more – unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to its reputation. Solid, but not a flavor explosion. The service was unfriendly, and the food was practically thrown at me. I unfortunately didn't experience the typical Vietnamese-Thai hospitality here. Card payments are only accepted for €15 or more, which isn't really contemporary these days. The inside of the restaurant is very cozy and beautifully decorated, but outside is rather uncomfortable: beer garden-style garden furniture makes it difficult to sit comfortably – taller people can barely fit their legs under the table. Conclusion: Average food in a pleasant interior, but there's room for improvement in the service and outdoor area.

It was easy to get a table. The sushi was of decent quality. However, the service was unfriendly. Even as a local, you were treated like a tourist who wouldn't be back.

The food was okay :) I think it was decent overall. The waitress doesn't speak German very well, but that's not the problem. I didn't think it was very respectful or nice that she explicitly showed when she was annoyed while taking our order, then slammed the dishes down on the table, etc. At the end, she didn't even thank us for the tip 😅 It would have been nice if the waitress had put us in a good mood, but here, the opposite was true 🥺

When we walked in, the waitress greeted us with "Nihao" 💀💀💀. She never took the menu away, and we placed it on the other table. When the food came out, she almost threw the plates 💀💀💀

The food was delicious and served quickly. Unfortunately, the service wasn't very friendly or service-oriented. Water glasses were piled high on the table, they didn't want to wait until we had all our food and drink preferences when taking our orders, and payment by card was accepted only very reluctantly. We were asked if we wouldn't prefer to pay in cash. This made a strange impression.

I had beef rice noodles and iced tea. The rice noodles are not clean-boiled and are very oily. It is not a Vietnamese specialty restaurant, but rather sells Asian food, so it has a strong fusion feel. The restaurant is clean and the atmosphere is good.

Very tasty, cheap and quick. Good service. I can recommend. I had the curry with tofu. Tasted fresh. Plus the homemade ice tea. Gladly again

To be fair, when we have so many amazing restaurants in Berlin I don’t understand such high rating of this place. The food is good, not fantastic. BUT the service is terrible, for 20 min we didn’t even get the menu, then we waited 40 min for lunch menu dishes as they told us any other dish outside of lunch menu takes”long” to cook, in the end they ended up brining wrong food :) Oh and cherry on top we could not pay by card for dishes over 15 euro :) May be in Mitte there are not that many fantastic options, but still our experience in this restaurant was not more than average.

In a relatively quiet spot, near Checkpoint Charlie. Had a lovely lunch outside, the food is REALLY FANTASTIC! We are very enthusiastic. Service could be a little friendlier. Price quality is also top!

It's nice and comfortable to sit outside, despite the location right on the street. Service is very reserved at first, but then becomes friendlier. Starter spring roll good. The main course, red curry with fried salmon, tastes great, but the portion size, which at first glance is impressive, is mainly due to the integrated salad. Card payment only with reluctance.

Food was disgusting. Sushi was not fresh. I was almost sick. Service was terrible and then they overcharged me on the bill.

We spontaneously visited Avan during the week with a group of five people and got a table without any problems. The facility is clean and well-kept, although visually unspectacular. The food was served quickly, was hot and tasted good - more suited to the European palate. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, a solid choice, but not an absolute must-have. Recommended for an uncomplicated visit to a restaurant.

The restaurant is in a good location near checkpoint Charlie. They have very delicious Homemade drinks. The passionfruit drink was made with fresh passionfruit. The sushi was fresh and also the Udon Noodles Wok with beef was also tasty. The service was attentive and friendly.

The sushi platter was delicious. Don't forget to try their fried banana dessert with vanilla ice cream. If you are a coffee maniac then surely try Vietnamese coffee.

The curry dishes (Laotian and from the weekly menu) are extremely tasty here and very fairly priced at €8.90. The glass noodle salads are also recommended.

All very rich. We had lunch/dinner at 6:00 p.m. and we loved it. It is true that it took a long time, especially for one of the dishes, but it was worth it. We have tried the dimsum, the shrimp rolls (we have repeated both), the avocado salad, the Bo Luc Lac (photo), salmon makis and tuna nigiris. A 10 for everything and the service was very pleasant and efficient.

A disappointing new years experience! “ We ran out of rice” were the words we were told 30mins after we ordered. Arrived for new years dinner with family. We ordered 4 sushi plates and a curry. Curry arrived after 10 mins and then we waited and waited and waited for sushi. The sushi was for the kids. After enquiring what the delay was I was told it’s coming in one minute. The table behind us arrived 15mins after us and received a huge sushi platter within ten mins. When sushi arrived we were told sorry we have run out of rice so we can only provide two plates of sushi. The waitress then suggested the kids order a dessert for their dinner. By this time the curry was cold as we wanted to eat together. Absolutely not acceptable for a New Year’s Eve in a quiet restaurant. Super dissapointed and we were offered a free coke as a peace offering.

A very good and pleasant place, with a special atmosphere. The menu includes dishes from different Asian cuisines, which made us very happy; the menu includes not only sushi, but also plenty of soups and hot dishes. The food arrived surprisingly very quickly, and the waiters were very kind and welcoming, they also spoke English, which made us very happy. The portions themselves are huge, which for me is a huge plus, since you won’t leave here hungry) The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is wonderful, and the interior design is like a separate work of art. I recommend visiting, but be sure to take cash.

19nov2024 after 21.00 i think i ve missed to talk to a supervibeful & beautiful (italo-?)american girl that has had dinner w her friend (table of 2) beside a table of italians (table of 5) ... hahaha can t get rid of her face, even i forced a lot not to turn nor talk to her, especially after she stood up...strange! ...she will never read this... anyhow, food was ok, apart always this sweet thing on the dumplins, arrived soon; waiter needs to do some math and mnemo training haha and not insist w the old cash story...all in all an ok, would go back to meet that one girl hahaha

The food was decent, with a few highlights, but the service was mixed. One waitress was friendly and attentive, creating a positive experience, while another seemed rushed and a bit curt, which impacted the overall atmosphere. The restaurant was otherwise well-maintained. There’s room for improvement, particularly in consistency in service and hygiene.

Very nice authentic place to have some Vietnamese/Thai food. I often visit during lunch time, they have the concept of a vento box which has various food items in a plate. Definitely recommended.

We enjoyed it very much, so we came back after two days. As soon as we come to Berlin next time, we are looking forward to the Bento Box again.

Ich hatte das Vergnügen, in diesem wunderbaren Restaurant zu essen, und es war ein wirklich tolles Erlebnis! Der Raum ist ruhig und einladend, was eine entspannte Atmosphäre schafft. Das Personal ist unglaublich freundlich und aufmerksam, man merkt, dass sie ihre Arbeit mit Begeisterung machen. Besonders hervorheben möchte ich das Essen - es war einfach köstlich und unglaublich authentisch. Man fühlt sich wirklich wie in Vietnam, obwohl man mitten im Herzen Berlins ist. Ich komme definitiv wieder!

I had the pleasure of eating at this wonderful restaurant and it was a truly amazing experience! The space is calm and inviting, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, you can tell that they are passionate about their work. I would particularly like to highlight the food – it was simply delicious and incredibly authentic. You really feel like you're in Vietnam, even though you're right in the heart of Berlin. I'll definitely be back!

I visited this Asian restaurant in Berlin and had mixed experiences. The starters were an avocado salad and a coconut soup. While the avocado salad was a disappointment, the coconut soup scored points in terms of taste. I can't remember the name of the main course, but it was pretty average: the salmon was fried on the skin, which wasn't quite my taste, and the vegetables were solid, but without any wow factor. The ambience was okay, but not exceptional either – it fits with the overall impression. The prices were fair, and despite the store being full, I received quick service. Overall, a restaurant that was okay but didn't blow me away.

Disappointing. Sushi were falling apart, in main dish-chicken was burned and vegetables not fully cooked. Soup was not good, didn’t even felt like dumping soup but something else. Came to eat being hungry, left hungry as well.
