Aurora Hotel & Restaurant in Kappeln

We stayed there overnight as mechanics. The rooms are very clean, the shower also has plenty of hot water, and the breakfast buffet is also excellent. The only downside is when the hotel is closed on Mondays, when you get the key from the safe and then stand in front of the room door in your underwear, it's closed, and your key and smartphone are on the other side of the door. Be careful. 😄

There were 19 of us there, and it was OK, but my wife had the Chef Salad, which also included cooked ham. But this was pressed and combined ham from leftovers. That's 0 out of 0 points.

The heating failed without any notification, only detectable by the cold water in the shower. There was no feedback on the complaints.

Very good food, everything freshly prepared and well seasoned.

We stayed at the hotel with a group for three nights and stayed in room 11. The hotel is cozy, clean, the staff friendly, and the food very tasty. The rooms aren't large but are neatly furnished. The bathroom is modern, but the shower didn't have a shelf for shower gel and shampoo, so it had to be placed on the floor.

This review applies only to the restaurant. The three of us ordered the Schleiteller, which, upon request, consisted of three pieces of fish fillet. Unfortunately, these were riddled with bones on all three plates. A shame 😞 However, the food was very tasty. The hamburger schnitzel was perfect. 👍 The atmosphere was okay. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible.

I wanted to have a nice evening with a friend yesterday, and since Aurora is one of my favorite restaurants, we went there to eat. We waited over an hour for our food. Only after asking did we finally get something to eat. It's happened to me several times now that everything takes forever. Food and drinks too, and especially until someone even notices you're there! Apart from Janni and Juma, who are still trying to salvage something and who have also lost their good mood and sense of fun, Aurora has become a "no go." They're not really interested in giving their guests a good time. It doesn't matter anyway; there are enough holidaymakers, that's how it feels. I've had that feeling several times now. I'm disturbing everyone!!! EVERYTHING, always with the excuse that it's full. I didn't find it particularly full. After having this unpleasant experience several times now, I've decided to cross Aurora off my restaurant list, because a nice evening with a feel-good effect really can't be done much better. Besides, everything costs a fair bit of money, and you feel like a supplicant who practically has to beg for drinks and food. It's not okay for me anymore. It takes a lot for me to go from a former favorite restaurant to "I'm not going there anymore." It's a shame, because this place used to be really, really good.

Back in the Country Doctor series, it was his pub; today it's a Yugoslavian one. The food is truly delicious, the meat very tender. We're very impressed.

We had made a reservation at the restaurant the day before, but it took 25 minutes to order and another 60 minutes to get our food. This service and the slowness of the kitchen were very disappointing; WE WILL NOT BE BACK.

We ate there last weekend. It's gotten significantly more expensive, but what's even worse, the portions have gotten smaller. We were disappointed. We used to enjoy going there, but not anymore.

We actually come here every year when we're on vacation, and I have to say that I'm downgrading from the 4-star rating to 3-star because of the service. Accordingly, I agree with the previous reviews and have to say that the friendliness has declined considerably. One server, whom we've known since the beginning, is excellent, the others definitely aren't. It's a shame. The food is very good except for the side salad. It was served with only a tiny bit of dressing and wasn't particularly well-presented.

After waiting for over an hour, our food finally arrived. No one asked for a second drink or mayo or ketchup with the fries. A mini Setzei egg was on top of the schnitzel. That was two. And since when does orange end up on schnitzel instead of lemon? Pretty unkind.

We only ate here. The service was mediocre. Ordered items were forgotten, reminded the next waiter, and forgotten again... No cutlery when the main course was already served... The waiters all seemed stressed, didn't look at us when we took our orders, and seemed like we were being a nuisance. The piece of meat was very stringy and tough, but the taste was okay. Prices and ambiance were okay.

We highly recommend this restaurant. We had wonderful beef liver with a fresh salad. The portion and price were perfectly balanced. They even had a different lunch special each week. The service was also very friendly and attentive. Hence, 5 stars. When we want beef liver, we now go to the Aurora in Kappeln.

We went out to eat. It was delicious, except for the one piece of meat from the Grillzeller (grilled ham). It was streaky and overcooked. The women's lunch was delicious, and all the dishes were filling. My butt hurts now, so let's go. Card payments only. It's not wheelchair accessible, at least not where you sit.

The best address for food and service in Kappeln! A cozy location with a nod to the 80s. A restaurant from the original series, featuring picture frames of the TV stars of the time. Christian Quadflieg and Heinz Reinke still exude the charm of German film history. The restaurant is very popular, so reservations are recommended. The service is always on top of things. There's no shortage of food. The food is very high standard!

Service is friendly and fast. Rebooking from inside to outside was also possible immediately. A training session could provide expertise in the area of hygiene with plates and cutlery. This would eliminate the need for a second hand wipe. Also, the request for guests to pass their plates... The signage to the restrooms could be clearer. The restrooms were clean and well-maintained. As for the food: Plenty and good... Keep it up...!

Located in the heart of Kappeln, they even offer lunch. But only until 2 p.m. Arrive early. We loved it and would gladly come back.

Wonderful location in the heart of the old town

I'm only reviewing the restaurant's service. During our visit last week, we sat at a free table on the terrace. There were two or three other tables occupied, and many tables were empty or still covered with glasses or dishes. After we sat down (she had seen us), the waitress went in and out several times, clearing glasses from the tables next to us. In the 10 minutes we stayed, we weren't greeted, nor were we brought a menu, nor asked what we wanted to drink. We weren't in a hurry, but being ignored like that and having to clear glasses from tables that weren't being used anyway (it was after 7:30 p.m.) was something we'd never experienced before. We then got up and left. The female "server" didn't seem surprised and continued her chat with a colleague in front of us—service desert Germany.

I'm only giving a review of the food here. There were five of us there and we arrived with high expectations, as the food had been highly praised. The ambiance of the restaurant is very harmonious and modern. We were kindly shown to our reserved table and were served after a short wait. We were only moderately impressed with the food. The ribeye was cooked a bit over the requested height, the fried potatoes with the sea bream were very salty and not freshly prepared. The dips/sauces served were not homemade, and the dressing in the tuna salad was also industrially produced. The rump steak was unfortunately not satisfactory at all, as it was very stringy. Unfortunately, our son didn't tell us this until he had finished his meal and we left the restaurant. True to the motto: eat what's on the table and don't complain. Price-wise, it was within a reasonable range. All in all, I can conclude that the food was rather average, the service was good, and the prices were reasonable. We can now say that this could be an alternative to other restaurants if you don't just like fish.

We stayed at the Aurora with a group of two people, both in the hotel for two nights and for dinner (for our wedding). We received a very warm welcome in Kappeln, and the tight parking situation was perfectly handled. All the rooms were perfectly fine; we had a "comfort room" with a huge bathroom. The hotel breakfast was everything you could wish for, with a bit of everything. The nice lady who runs the hotel was super friendly, and so was the manager. The food in the restaurant was also delicious; none of our wedding guests had any complaints - the service was top-notch. Many thanks also for our festively set table and the beautiful flowers. Highly recommended restaurant, where we celebrated our milestone birthday and wedding anniversary with family. The food was very good. We were also able to sit at the regulars' table for the country doctor series and enjoyed excellent service. We parked in the small courtyard belonging to the Aurora.

We were there for lunch, just before the lunch menu ended. The waiter was nice and friendly, but the waitress who brought the drinks didn't even bother to say hello, put the drinks down, and left without a word. We've never experienced such unfriendly service. The food was okay.

Dear Aurora Team, We wanted to have dinner outside with you last night (June 14th, around 6:20 PM). At that time, several tables outside were free – and none of them were marked as reserved. Since there was no service outside, I went inside. It was busy, which is understandable. A woman and two men were serving, and the taller of the two men approached me. When asked if we had a reservation, I said no, but pointed out that there were only two of us and there were many tables available outside. He then said that everything was reserved and asked us to come back in about an hour. We then moved on and ate elsewhere. About an hour later, we passed by your restaurant again and noticed that the same tables outside were still empty and unoccupied. Reservation signs were still missing. I find it extremely disappointing to have been turned away in this way – especially since it seemed as if we weren't being told the truth. It would have been entirely understandable if your team had honestly admitted that you couldn't accommodate any more guests due to the rush. Making up an excuse instead seems disrespectful to me. That's a way to alienate long-standing, loyal customers... We were looking forward to a lovely evening with you and were instead very disappointed. I hope you handle such situations more transparently and respectfully in the future. Sincerely

The two of us ate there, it was like Balkan cuisine. Very tasty 😋. There's the regular table of the actors from The Country Doctor and a few photos, although you don't even recognize most of them. Except for Heinz Reineke, who played the pastor. What a pity. But otherwise, it was very nice.

We ate here today. Service in the dining room was unfriendly and stressed. Completely overpriced. Large turkey salad 14.90 It was mostly just cheap Chinese cabbage, and the dressing tasted like a ready-made salad mix. After complaining to the unfriendly waitress, she simply said she would pass it on to the kitchen. No further apologies. We were ignored several times when we wanted to pay. I tolerate a lot of things, but when I go out to eat, I want a decent price-performance ratio. It was a shame, once, and never again.

The meat from the funny Bosnian was a bit tough. I expected something much better. The service was very nice.

We arrived at the restaurant shortly before 1:30 p.m. and sat down, but were unfortunately completely ignored for over an hour. No one came to greet us, bring us a menu, or take our order. When we finally asked if we could order something else to eat, we were told that the kitchen closes at 2:30 p.m. – at that point, it was about 2:40 p.m. It remains unclear why we weren't served earlier or at least informed. We had plenty of time to place an order, but were simply ignored. This experience was unfortunately disappointing and suggests a lack of organization and attentiveness in the service. It's a shame, because our first impression of the restaurant was actually positive.

We're only reviewing the restaurant here. We didn't stay in the hotel. The restaurant was busy both inside and out. They certainly benefit from the "country doctor" hype and the sunny location in the evenings. There were six of us there, and we ordered two mixed grill platters (there are two versions) with an extra portion of fries. Since the restaurant was busy and the waiters were obviously stressed, the food took a bit longer. But that's not a problem. In general, however, the staff were extremely stressed and annoyed. After a while, the food finally arrived at our table. After looking at the platters, we realized that there were completely different items on them than what was described on our chosen platter. There were neither minced steaks nor schnitzels on them, but rather different types of meat. Since there were also children at the table who were looking forward to the schnitzels, this was obviously really stupid. We then asked why there were no schnitzels on the platter. The waiter then explained to us, annoyed, that the kitchen had accidentally made the wrong platters, but that we should be happy because we got the "better" one with fillet. Aha, okay. This wasn't even mentioned when the food was served; we were simply left with it. We then asked for another small schnitzel so the children could have what they wanted. With an obviously annoyed expression, we were shortly brought four more small schnitzels. The quantity was more than sufficient (even from the platter), but the schnitzels were really just frozen schnitzels and not even tasty. The fries were a disaster. Cold, soggy, and simply yucky. My son felt absolutely sick. It was also extremely stuffy and warm inside. All in all, very disappointing, and we wouldn't necessarily go back. What a shame.

Wir sind heute spontan nach einem Besuch in Kappeln dort - ziemlich hungrig - eingekehrt und saßen im Biergarten vor dem Restaurant. Fazit: Service war nicht sehr professionell. Essen noch schlechter. Tomatensalat (dabei kann man eigentlich nichts falschmachen) war eher eine Tomatensuppe, alles schwamm in der Essig/Ölmarinade. Filetsteak war höchstens Medium, obwohl Medium well bestellt, zudem mit falschen Beilagen. Und das, obwohl sich das Restaurant als Steakhaus bezeichnet. Man merkte deutlich, dass alles auf Touristen und nicht auf Gäste ausgelegt war. Empfehlung: weit umfahren / umgehen. Nicht weiterzuempfehlen.

The food is of good quality and the portions are generous. The prices are reasonable by today's standards. The staff is friendly and attentive. The central location in the FuZo next to the church is great for outdoor seating. We'll be happy to come back.

We sat outside on Saturday. Several people walked by right where the waitress was supposed to, but we were ignored. It wasn't that busy; there were still tables available, and people who had arrived after us were served. After a quarter of an hour, we were fed up because no one even responded to our calls. Bad luck when you scare away customers like that.

I came here spontaneously because my Sena was empty, so I asked if I could quickly charge it. The staff were incredibly friendly and immediately helpful! Now I'm drinking a coffee, and my Sena is charging. PS: Thanks for the charging cable and the delicious coffee.

Wir waren zu viert Essen, wie so oft schon. Alle Tellergerichte waren super lecker 😋 und qualitativ hervorragend. Fleisch alles saftig auf n Punkt gebraten.Personal sehr freundlich und Aufmerksam, sei es Getränke nachbestellen, Soßen für s Fleisch nachzuordern oder Schlussendlich die Rechnung anzusagen. Wir verstehen die teilweise schlechten Bewertungen überhaupt nicht. Kommen seit Jahren und waren immer Top zufrieden. Das Lokal ist jeden Abend voll in der Saison und an den Wochenenden. Soviele Gäste können sich wohl kaum alle irren.

Wir waren Ostersonntag 2025 hier. Die Bedienung war wohl vom Ansturm etwas genervt. So betrug auch die Wartezeit eine Stunde. Dennoch war das Essen hervorragend. Das Ribeye Steak genau auf dem Punkt. Auch die Putenstreifen auf Blattspinat waren ausgezeichnet. Geschmacklich alles toll. Wünschenswert wäre ein Vorspeisensalat gewesen, um die Wartezeit zu verkürzen.

Hotel centrally located at the harbor. Very cozy clean rooms. Unfortunately no elevator. Otherwise everything was tip top. Restaurant highly recommended. Delicious food and not overpriced. We'll definitely be back.

Man, you used to be really good. The black outdoor advertising now looks like a shisha bar. It's a shame... Herforder Pils also tasted better.. Rarely have I experienced such poor service at the table, when the drink is served, not a word is said.. Cruel..

Have been to the restaurant several times. The renovation was striking compared to last time. Looks very good. After I always had the Country Doctor grill plate, sometimes the Aurora skewer. Pork fillet rolled with ham and cheese. Plus hash browns. A poem. I haven't eaten something so tasty in a long time. I was still very excited on the way back.

We spent a wonderfully beautiful, spontaneous weekend at the Aurora. The best steak in Kappeln, no lie, but the other food, like fish and duck, was also excellent. I'm only reviewing the restaurant here. We weren't in the hotel. The grill plate was ok, the Djuve rice was a bit bland, the fries were unseasoned and bland, but still ok. Cordon Bleu was normal standard, as were the salads. The fish fingers were small and mushy. But my food was completely forgotten. The waiter wouldn't have heard my order...?!? When it came, it was just disappointing. Unfortunately, the lamb fillet was overcooked and not rosy. But the side dish, the spinach, is completely over salted. When I let this go back, I was then served the same spinach again. A second complaint was simply ignored. The service staff were absolutely disinterested from the start. In short, never again and no recommendation!

Wir waren enttäuscht, Tomatensuppe kalt, ging zurück und wurde warm (von heiß weit entfernt) erneut serviert. Filet 300 gr wurde Medium Rare bestellt, kam fast durchgebraten an den Tisch. Qualitativ war das Fleisch auch nicht top, etwas zäh für Filet. Super war das Knoblauchbrot was dazu serviert wird, schmeckte echt gut. Für die Preise kann man besseres erwarten. Das Personal war „nett“, aber nicht besonders aufmerksam. Wie wir gelesen haben, wird hier ein neuer Besitzer gesucht. Dieser kann einiges besser machen!

Today we were only there as restaurant guests. We entered shortly after it opened and hadn't made a reservation, unfortunately all the tables were reserved. However, we were assigned a table because our table was probably only booked at a later date. Everything just fit. Very friendly service and the food tasted very good. Ich war im April mit meiner Familie in Kappeln unterwegs und dann sahen wir diese Restaurant von außen und sah sehr gut aus also gingen wir hinein und ich bestellte mir ein Steak mit Pommes. Die Bedingung war sehr freundlich. Das Steak war auch perfekt genauso wie die Einrichtung. Insgesamt Top

We were just in the restaurant. Service very friendly and attentive. We were a group and the food came very quickly for everyone. Portions good, prices still in the normal range. I missed the usual side salad in some dishes. But everything tasted very tasty. Card payment is accepted. Definitely worth coming back for us.

Neighboring house very noisy. Cleaning of the rooms at 7.30 a.m. was unfortunately extremely loud. I thought they were remodeling the room. At first there were no curtains, so the curtain had to be almost closed all the time... Food in the restaurant was great. Had reserved a table in the restaurant two weeks in advance, but were moved to the breakfast room. Unfortunately, we couldn't finish the drinks in peace because the tables for breakfast were arranged quite loudly. Like getting kicked out. Location right in the city center - it couldn't be more central. I stayed in the hotel's guest house opposite the restaurant, right next to the church: simple furnishings, but everything you need was there. Marked parking space directly at the house. The menu in the restaurant is varied, the portions are large, and meat dishes dominate. Depending on the crowds, there may be waiting times in high season, but that's understandable. The staff is occasionally a little out of breath, but always nice and attentive - unfortunately some tourists are not.

Very good cuisine. I had very good meals there 3 times. Everything was very tasty and freshly prepared. The dishes are appetizingly prepared. The grilled liver was great. “Extra requests” were responded to in a friendly manner without hesitation. I would be happy to come back and recommend the restaurant, also because the prices quoted were completely acceptable. I can't say anything about the hotel because we didn't stay there.

Only restaurant to rate, first of all the food was delicious but that was it. Unfortunately we waited a very long time (about 1 hour) for the food, then unfortunately it was lukewarm to cold and the food didn't come at the same time. It's a shame they expected more from the Aurora's "reputation".

We didn't stay there so of course I can't rate the rooms. However, we did eat there, which I can rate. I had nothing to complain about about the food itself, although it was a bit cool in the part of the dining room where we were sitting. The table was reserved for 6 p.m. and around 6:10 p.m. we ordered food for 5 people. This didn't come until around 7:10 p.m., which meant a good 1 hour wait. Unfortunately, we didn't ask during the meal if anyone else would like to drink something, which unfortunately wasn't so good. Unfortunately, the fact that one drink too many was booked resulted in only a 2-star rating. But as I said, the food was nothing to complain about.

It's a shame that the country doctor's table with the pictures was removed during the renovation. Instead, Indian decorations and bright lights. What a shame!!!!!
