Frankfurt has great East African restaurants. This is one of them.

Excellent Ethiopian cuisine with a view of the Main river. Definitely try the Yedoro Wot. Staff was wonderful and the atmosphere cozy. Nice chill electronic music. A 5 star experience.

We were here with a larger group for my birthday. The service was super nice, even though they had a lot to do with us. All of my guests were thrilled with the food, we had a few vegetarians in the group who all felt well looked after. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed. We felt completely comfortable. Many thanks to the Ambassel team for a successful evening :)

Fantastic, extraordinary food, beautiful place and kind staff

You sit really well and nicely, the food was really great, one star deducted for the fact that there are only 2 vegetarian main courses, even though the website says there is a lot of choice of vegetarian... The delicious presentation deserves special attention.

The service only speaks English. Typically in the country, you eat with your hands and you don't get water at the table. To wash your hands you have to use the toilet, pick up door handles, go back to the table and then eat with your hands. Hmm, not nice. Cutlery upon request - a fork! That's it. Quality of the food poor. Beef tough/chicken dry and everything lukewarm to cold. We weren't satisfied.

Very authentic Ethiopian restaurant! The food was extremely delicious!!! Eating with your fingers wasn't a problem. If necessary, you can also receive cutlery, but this is not necessary due to the consistency of the food. The Dju Dju beer was also very tasty and exceptional. The service was very nice.

Dined here for the third time in a month. Very appealing ambience, clear menu with mild or spicy options. Very nice staff, delicious food at reasonable prices. Everything just fits here. What was a bit unusual for me was the lack of cutlery at the table. The lady who brought the food to the table then explained to us how to eat this meal without a knife and fork. Alternatively, I could have had a fork, but I decided not to. I conveniently reserved the table via the website. Update: still worth recommending in 2023. Next update; We still like to come for dinner. There were currently a few places outside again. A request to the city of Frankfurt: Leave a few parking spaces in front of the restaurants for catering. There are enough parking garages in the area and there were enough outsiders parked in front of the Ambassel today who could also get into the parking garage. It was so nice to have a few more outdoor seats during Corona. Update: We will continue to recommend this in 2024. Very nice ambience, very nice atmosphere, friendly welcome, reservation possible via the website. Another tip for parking if you come by car, cheap and not far to walk, the Alt Sachsenhausen car park.

Super delicious food. We'll definitely go there again. It was very plentiful and a bit unusual to eat with your fingers. Simply great. Keep it up.

Great new experience. I had never eaten Ethiopian before and I loved it. The restaurant is very modern, attractive and tastefully decorated. Feel-good atmosphere. The service was very courteous and warm. As a newbie, I chose the mixed plate. Great - varied, full of flavors and a little bit of everything.

Der Service war sehr zuvorkommend und herzlich. Ich habe mich, als Neuling, für die gemischte Platte entschieden. Super - abwechslungsreich, aromenreich von allem etwas.

Food is delicious, staff friendly and nice. A great culinary journey

Despite a reservation, we had to wait 45 minutes to order drinks and 2 hours for food and didn't even get an apology or anything to accommodate us. We were a group of 12 people, made a lot of sales and finally had to argue with the owner because she withheld 3 desserts and didn't serve them to us. Embarrassing, unprofessional and totally overwhelmed staff. The main course tasted good, but we were served cold bread and no lentils or other side dishes. The fruit for dessert was from a can and the ice cream from the supermarket. There was no difference between coffee and espresso and everything was served very carelessly.

Very good African food with a good price/performance ratio. Highly recommended. However, the ambience needs to be spruced up a bit.

As always, it was a great experience. I like to go here with good friends to eat outside the mainstream. Then I don't order from the menu but have the kitchen put together a plate for everyone. This is always very tasty. Also this time. Since the food felt like it was a little less than last time, I deducted a star. But the quality is top, as is the service. I feel very comfortable there.

It was my first time eating African food - it was tasty, but unfortunately the service was rather poor and the atmosphere suffered a bit due to the sparsely attended restaurant. You can do it but you don't have to.

Wir waren hier zum Abendessen und waren schlichtweg begeistert. Super freundlicher Service mit guten Empfehlungen. Wir haben uns den Vorspeisenteller geteilt und anschließend den Mix als Hauptgang bestellt. Super zubereitet und geschmacklich ausgezeichnet. Dazu gibt es eine tolle Auswahl an Bieren, die man so nirgends findet. Wiederholubgsvedarf.

Einfach perfekt! Nicht umsonst gibt es diese Restaurant bereits seit Jahren ohne jemals nachgelassen zu haben!!

Leckeres Essen und freundliches Personal

Sehr freundlicher Kellner, der uns das richtige Essen mit den Händen auch vorgeführt hat, da wir dies zum ersten Mal machten. Das Essen (vegan) war total lecker und ich komme gerne wieder und empfehle dieses Restaurant weiter :)

Ich komme seit 13 Jahren immer wieder mal nach Frankfurt ins Ambassel und bin bisher jedes Mal rundum zufrieden gewesen. Das Restaurant ist recht klein, hat ein angenehmes Ambiente und das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Das Essen ist großartig, mein Favorit dabei das Shifenfen Ambassel, da ich sehr gerne unterschiedliche Gerichte probiere oder genieße - da kommt so eine gemischte Platte gerade recht. Preislich für Frankfurt absolut verträglich und dabei eben grandios lecker :)

Essen ist exotisch und schmackhaft, tendenziell kleine Portionen. Unser Essen kam schon relativ kalt an und die Vorspeise wurde vergessen. Also in Summe eher mittelmäßige Experience

Never had African cuisine before and after eating at Ambassel I must say that I was surprised in the best way possible, I didn't know what to expect but the service was immaculate in presenting their dishes and the food was absolutely spectacular! Highly recommended!

Sehr leckeres, authentisches äthiopisches Essen. Gehen immer wieder gerne hierher. Empfehlenswert ist die gemischte Platte und das Dju Dju Bier. Wir reservieren immer über Google einen Tisch, da wir ab und zu mal keinen Tisch mehr bekommen haben.

Auf der Suche nach dem etwas anderen Essen auf dieses Lokal gestossen und überraschen lassen. Das Essen ist ein Traum und die Portionen sind mehr als genug für den Preis. Auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung wert.

Amazing Ethiopian restaurant with delicious food, interesting plating and polite and friendly staff. The prices aren't that high considering the location. The overall experience was great for me. I wouldn't hesitate to visit this place again.

Waren an Silvester hier zu Gast. Es gab ein festgelegtes Menü (vegetarisch oder mit Fleisch zur Auswahl). Das Essen war geschmacklich gut und macht einen authentischen Eindruck. Der Service war allerdings total überfordert, bis wir bedient wurden hat sehr lange gedauert und wir wurden den kompletten Aufenthalt auch nicht mal gefragt ob wir noch etwas zu trinken möchten. PLV war auch nicht wirklich angemessen. Für afrikansches Essen, gibt es aus meiner Sicht in FFM bessere Alternativen.

Friendly atmosphere and delicious Ethiopian food in Frankfurt’s Sachsenhausen. The restaurant serves generous sample platters on the traditional enjira bread and a selection dishes if you know Ethiopian food. Excellent fruit beer from Ghana and Ethiopian honey wine (available sometimes) make the visit very memorable. The tibbs is pleasantly spicy and the yellow lentils are to die for.

Gemütliches, kleines Restaurant, toller Service und phantastisches Essen. War eine gute Wahl, dort essen zu gehen, kann jedermann nur empfohlen werden.

We ordered online for a friends dinner. We got a reservation confirmation pre e-mail the day before our stay. When we went it was closed and we phoned the people. The answer was only that it was closed and sorry, they hanged up on me by phone

Auf der Suche nach einem Restaurant mit ausländischen Spezialitäten bin ich auf das „Ambassel“ gestoßen . Die überwiegen positiven Bewertungen hat sich dieses kleine ,Äthiopische Restaurant wirklich verdient . Sehr authentische afrikanische Köstlichkeiten, auf schönen Platten serviert und das beste „es wird mit Fingern gegessen“ 😍 Bei schönem Wetter unbedingt einen der wenigen Tische außerhalb an der Straße am Mainufer reservieren , man hat einen tollen Blick auf Römer , Main und teile der Skyline. Ein herrlicher Abend , wir kommen definitiv wieder !

Wonderful place with great ambiance. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the service quick and no fuss. Extra bread provided as required. The food was excellent and served on a huge platter. The meal "for3" was more than enough for us and everything was extremley tasty (even though I wasnt sure what it was lol) Would recommend this place 100% for people looking to try something a little out of the ordinary German fare of Schnitzel and Pizzas. We will return I am sure.

Das Personal bzw. die bedienende Dame ist sehr freundlich. Man fühlt sich sehr wohl. Das Restaurant und Ambiente sind sehr schön. Auch das Essen ist gut, allerdings könnte es noch ein bisschen besser sein. Habe schon besser afrikanisch gegessen. Der Salat war kaum gewürzt. Dennoch alles frisch, lecker iwo und lohnenswert.

Ein gelungener Abend, an dem das essen sehr gut war und durch den exzellenten Service noch weiter veredelt wurde. Sehr gemütlich. Sehr freundlich und kompetent. Und das Essen war authentisch. Jederzeit gern wieder. Man fühlt sich herzlich willkommen und wie Zuhause.

Eine Küche, die nun nicht sehr bekannt ist - aber zu Unrecht. Leckere einfache Speisen und für Anfänger in diesem Bereich sind der gemischte Vorspeisenteller und die "gemischte Platte" perfekt zum Probieren. Kräftige Küche die satt macht...und mit den Fingern essen macht uns doch fast allen Spass! Das Bier lecker...die Bedienung super nett und schnell. Preis Leistung ist auch sehr fair! Ich geh da auf jeden Fall wieder hin!

I’ve never had Ethiopian food so we decided to give this place a try after finding it on Google Maps. The place was cozy and intimate, with artwork on every wall. We decided to try a mixed platter served with their Injera bread, which made for a memorable dinner experience.

We had several dishes there. Most of the times we go for the mix, which is fun and tasty. We also had the African tartar, which was very good. Same with deserts. The atmosphere is nice, staff friendly, but it takes rather long even when it is not crowded. Maybe they cool everything on the spot

Posizione molto bella e ottimi piatti africani. Consigliato per gruppi di persone medio-grandi (4-5) in quanto offre diverse specialità da condividere. Lasciatevi consigliare dallo staff! Interessante anche la birra aromatizzata alla frutta.

C'était la première fois que je mangeais éthiopien, et j'ai trouvé ça très bon. Le vin, sud-africain, a été servi dans les règles de l'art et était également très bon. C'est très bien servi, mais il faut vraiment avoir une grosse faim pour engloutir toute la pâte.
