Am Kamin in Dornum

Cozy restaurant with very friendly service. I chose mussels and was not disappointed in the taste or quantity. Very original idea, the mussels were served in a small blue metal bucket, and a small red bucket was used for the empty shells.

In short: very neat and always happy! Food was good - the salmon pan tasted good, the asparagus as well… Only 4 stars because the fish was already a bit overcooked and the hollandaise sauce tasted very much like a ready-made sauce. (Of course, the rating must be considered in combination with the prices quoted!). Very really lovely and really tried hard - it was very full but it was still very civilized, calm and level-headed. And very friendly towards the guest. Very happy again.

Unfortunately a bit hidden, but an absolute insider tip. For us the local restaurant The service was very courteous and polite, the food was excellent and a very good price-performance ratio. As a starter we had fish soup and a small salad. The roll with the soup was even warm and the dressings were homemade. The main course was the cutter's plaice and the pilot's plate, changing things up was no problem at all. The tartar sauce was also made in-house. Everything was very, very tasty. Kudos again to the kitchen.

All in all a great evening, great value for money!

If you are looking for a cozy restaurant with an atmosphere, you will find it here. Delicious food and friendly service. Here you can sit inside and outside. The outdoor area is very nicely landscaped. With the afternoon sun and right by the water, it invites you to linger. We'll be back.

Quaint local. Very friendly service, very good food. We were unlucky that our waiter worked there the first evening and one or two things went wrong. Crab soup and salad were plentiful and tasty as starters. Unfortunately, the salad only came when we asked. The beef steak was great and the cooking was perfect. Unfortunately the fries and salad were forgotten with the steak. The flambéed skewer of pork, chicken and turkey, grilled vegetables and fried potatoes (which were very plentiful!) came with additional beef, so my other half, who doesn't eat beef, had to leave it alone. When we asked, we were told by a very friendly, long-established waitress that the chef had varied. We didn't have to pay for it, but I took it with me and ate it at home the next day. We were also offered a replacement dish and the staff were visibly uncomfortable that something like this had happened. Then we ordered dessert and it was first class! There was also an aquavit as compensation and the forgotten fries and salad were deducted from the bill. Conclusion: A nice evening saved with humor! We're all just people, a waiter who's new and a cook who means well but can't know that someone doesn't eat beef, that can happen, but it's not a reason for devaluation!

Rustic restaurant. To feel good. Nice service and reasonable prices. We will definitely be visiting there regularly. We were very satisfied and can only recommend the visit.

On March 1st, 2025, 35 members of the Nessmersiel Yacht Club were here in the restaurant to eat kale after Bosseln am Deich. An excellent kale buffet with all the trimmings was offered. All participants were enthusiastic about the delicious food, the service and the cozy atmosphere.

We ate there again after years in September 2024. And I have to say it's gotten really bad. It was a really good restaurant about 10 years ago, but apparently they couldn't maintain the standard there. Either the owner has changed or a new chef has been hired. Long waiting times, waited almost an hour for food and got a terrible table. Outside the toilet windows...it's unbelievable to put a table there, it's not possible at all in my opinion. Waiters tried hard but unfortunately they didn't do anything to improve the bad food. It's really a shame what happened to it. I would say living at the limit.

Rustic and cozy - by the fireplace. You can dine well in an East Frisian atmosphere. Nice selection of dishes, tasty and nicely prepared. The service duo (two 'aging' ladies) master the guest room with East Frisian mentality and calm and make the stay "by the fireplace" something special. Thumbs up for a few cozy hours!

When you enter the restaurant you are initially pleasantly surprised by the rustic, cozy atmosphere. The starter salad also leaves you wanting more. It's fresh, crunchy and deliciously prepared. But if you order one of the meat dishes (we had the grill plate and the councilor's pan), you need a sharp knife. The meat is “fried to death”, very dry. The councilor's pan would have needed a lot more sauce, but there was hardly any. But there were even more fried potatoes. Oh yes, I also found two small pieces of meat. It's completely incomprehensible to me why all of this is served in a cold pan. Apparently it was just for decoration. 🤔 Conclusion: you can eat really well in Dornumersiel, but not here. Too bad!

Sitting comfortably, the background noise is important to me, here: very pleasant, friendly service at all times, even when things get busy. And the food: we eat our way through the menu, always very tasty, even to the eye. And our good dog is always welcome.

Good home cooking. Pork, turkey, chicken and fish dishes are available. Here, quality is more important than quantity. The map is kept quite manageable. Card payment is possible. If we had been here longer we would have gone there a second time. Just the right thing to fill up after a day in the dunes. A special compliment to our waiter, Leon. Very polite and always an answer to everything. Very good service from him. :) Price for two main courses and two drinks ~50€ and absolutely justified 💯👌👍 In the picture above you can see number 25 and below number five from the menu.

During our vacation we ate by the fireplace twice. The food was very good, the portions were very generous. The service was always friendly, courteous and tried very hard to answer any questions we had. The second time it was a little more crowded and many people ordered at the same time, we had to wait a little longer, but the quality of the food was excellent.

Parking is difficult. Food is okay, but my wife had a schnitzel Italia with cheese, the smell of which was bad and makes you sick. There was no starter soup, my daughter was looking forward to a warm soup because she and my wife went on a boat trip and it was cold. The staff was friendly. In any case, the price is good. The ambience is fine, but the restaurant is a bit older.

We didn't make a reservation, but we still got a small table. When a nicer place became available a short time later, we were asked if we wanted to move. Which we gladly accepted. Friendly, fast service, the food was very tasty and well prepared. Mussels in a bucket and cutter floe on a fish-shaped glass plate. The staff was very committed and courteous, but not intrusive. We found prices reasonable.

Ein sehr schönes Ambiente, sehr nette Bewirtung. Das Essen schmeckt sehr gut, gute Auswahl an unterschiedlichen Speisen ob Fleisch Fisch oder Tagesangebote, Preisleistung ist gut. Wir kommen sicherlich im nächsten Jahr wieder zum Essen.

We went to this restaurant as part of our vacation at the beginning of October. The food was very good and beautifully presented. We really had a lovely evening there, just as you would hope. What should be emphasized is the extreme politeness of the service staff - despite the fact that it was packed - and also the technical knowledge of the dishes and time for an explanation when a question about fish was explicitly asked at the neighboring table. Praise to the young man who not only did “a job” there, but also looked after the guests extremely well. You don't see something like that very often these days.

Great ambience in great weather in the beer garden. I can't rate the food, we just drank there. But from what I hear it's supposed to be very good.

The staff is very friendly and professional. Our food was excellent and the price-performance ratio was right. Special requests are no problem because everything is fresh and homemade. The herb butter was of course homemade and met my husband's taste. We felt very comfortable as guests and we can only recommend this great restaurant.

We went there on the boss’s recommendation 😉 and we really liked it. The food was great, tasty and fresh. Creamy schnitzel with fresh champions, delicious redfish and crispy fried potatoes, with fresh salad 👍 The service was very nice. The restaurant is very cozy and attractive. “By the Fireplace” is really recommended.

I can't understand some of the mediocre reviews. Last year I ate here 14 times within 3 weeks in August and September. I've already eaten up and down the menu and can only remember the best cuisine, nice service and a cozy atmosphere. Now I went out to eat often again. Everything tip top. When the weather is good and even when it rains (for the smokers) you can sit outside wonderfully. I can only highly recommend the restaurant “Am Kamin”.

We were there for the first time this evening. Very nice beer garden right on the water. Clean tables and we were served by a young man from whom most waitresses should learn something! I have rarely received such friendly and courteous service! Our son's wish for a children's schnitzel was fulfilled even though it wasn't on the menu. The portion was really decent for 8.50 euros. My husband had the grill plate and I had the mushroom schnitzel. That was the best thing I've ever eaten! Just the right size, lots of fresh mushrooms, and the sauce was perfectly seasoned. Totally recommended!!!

Looking back on yesterday evening: It was cozy and extremely pleasant “Am Kamin” in Dornumersiel. The fresh products, the beautiful ambience and the very friendly service were convincing. We look forward to visiting this restaurant again.

We have now vacationed in Dornumersiel for the third time. This year was the first time we had been to this restaurant. We sat at the back in the beer garden, very comfortable. Friendly staff. We didn't have to wait long for the food. I had the pilot plate with fried potatoes, very tasty. I can recommend. However, my husband wasn't that enthusiastic about the chimney pan; the fried potatoes were too greasy because the oil was floating at the bottom of the pan. The medallions were overcooked. But my son also liked it, he had redfish fillet. Price/performance okay.

We had dinner in the restaurant “Am Kamin” on the evening of August 4th, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. The reviews were consistently good, and the pictures of the delicious prepared dishes were very appealing. Unfortunately we can't share that. I ordered a fish soup in advance, if you like it - okay, but it wasn't for me. But this is a matter of taste. The Pilot's Plate, the Wiener Schnitzel, the Grilled Plate and the Kutterscholle dish were a complete fat game. The food was an absolute disaster. We would have been better off taking the money to MC Do...ds. We were forgotten at first. My goodness, it can happen. After drawing attention to ourselves, we couldn't swallow as quickly as what was served. I'm not one to complain; something can always go wrong. This is all human. However, apologizing is also human and a matter of respect. But this didn't happen. The young man/Keller with the black hair and the "curls" as bangs had to fix the mess that the other three Kellers messed up. Never, never again.........

I had to give one star but it didn't mean anything. We were there about an hour ago....NEVER AGAIN!! About 50 minutes after we placed our order and I saw that guests who had entered the restaurant after us had long since started eating, I politely asked if we had been forgotten... there was no apology. Afterwards, food came. My wife had just finished the salad for the main course, put the last cable in her mouth and in no time the plate was gone and replaced with the starter... I would say living at the limit :) Main course was more than just disappointing. Fried potatoes were way too greasy, fish wasn't all fresh in my opinion. (TK sends its regards) Our 9 year old son threw up at home after his schnitzel plate with fries... (is there a connection?!) I definitely advise against visiting there! Anyone who says the food is great there also eats small children.

Everything was perfect here, great food, great ambience and great service. I found a dish via social media that was probably from 3 years ago and was no longer on the menu. The friendly owners there prepared this dish for me straight away without a word. That's what service is. Children are not left out either. We'll definitely be back!! PS the dish should be back on the menu 😄

We sat in the beer garden, which I found very nice. But others have already mentioned this positively. The two ladies in service were nice and polite. But there was a young man who served the food... We noticed him very positively. Very nice, polite, thoughtful and accommodating! Now for the rest... We had to wait a long time for the drinks. We were not the exception. It was the same for all the guests. The food... Every first-year chef trainee can do it just as well. The fries weren't completely cooked through, the meat was well seared and juicy, I had chicken, and the grilled vegetables were briefly sautéed. The salad first... coleslaw, carrot salad, red cabbage salad and iceberg lettuce. Why put dressing on everything? Only iceberg lettuce needs it. This isn't decoration either. In general I would say... Well... There were no vegetarian dishes on the menu. On demand. Nowadays I don't think that's up to date anymore. Conclusion. I've had enough.

Disappointed First of all, the ambience inside, very nice and original, outside it's more of a terrace on the Siel. Service, a young waiter who does a good job and is very professional, with two colleagues who tried to do justice to all guests. Food and drinks, the menu was very simple, unfortunately we had to wait a long time for the drinks. I didn't have to order a salad plate (which is on the menu) because a salad plate was served with all dishes. I had a grill plate, the meat was good, the pork steak was very dry. Unfortunately the fried potatoes are not at all as we know them, dark but not fried. The vegetables too. In addition, everything tastes the same, meat, fried potatoes, vegetables seasoned with the same herb salt. Absolutely not satisfactory for me.

Sehr schöner Biergarten hinter dem Restaurant, direkt am Siel. Die Speisekarte ist erfreulich Übersichtlich mit Fleisch und Fischgerichten. Das Essen war sehr gut, und wurde mit Friesischen Charme Serviert. Sehr zu empfehlen.

This lovely restaurant right on the water is definitely worth a visit. The food is a real pleasure. The service was very accommodating. The only other thing I would recommend is drinking an honest beer with your meal. The wine is so overpriced that you should leave it alone. We were allowed to photograph the wine bottle. So I know what I'm talking about.

Gemütlich direkt am Wasser gelegen. Nettes Personal und eine übersichtliche Karte. Das Essen hat gut geschmeckt, die Portionen waren gross und eine kleine Aufmerksamkeit gab es auch noch. Preis-Leistung stimmte definitiv. Leider werden auch hier keine Visa-Karten akzeptiert. Sehr schade.

Das ganze Personal ist so lieb und herzlich, und das Essen ( vor allem das schollenfilet) absolut top zu fairen preisen!! Da wird noch alles frisch zubereitete!!!! Manche Gäste sollten vielleicht auch mal dran denken dass sie im Urlaub da sind und etwas Zeit mitbringen!!! Wir hatten dort echt schöne Abende!!! Wir kommen immer wieder gerne zum kamin!!!!!!!!!

Sehr unflexibel. Hatte reserviert am Mittwoch. War da am Samstag um 17.30 Uhr. Hätte gerne noch einen Platz auf der Terrasse bekommen. Man sagte alle besetzt. Ok. Kurz nach mir kam eine 4 Köpfchen Familie, die nicht reserviert hatte und siehe da : auf einmal war ein Tisch frei. Sehr frustrierend Hab es auch so kommuniziert. Schade So kann einem der Abend auch versaut werden.

Nice restaurant in Dornumersiel. Food is great and the portions are huge. Unfortunately, the waiting times until the meal leaves something to be desired. This is not a problem for an adult but for a child. The staff is friendly but they seem overwhelmed.

Went there for dinner today. At first we were forgotten, the skewer wasn't flambéed, there were several hairs in the food and the herb butter was no longer edible. Everything was only surpassed by the arrogance of the waiter. We couldn't do anything about it, but neither could HE. That's really a pity!!
