It's a nice place in terms of appearance. However, the service is lacking. Initially, they come very quickly to take your order, but then nobody comes anymore. For our main course, we had a sharing platter. The meat wasn't particularly special and rather flavorless. There were no sauces either. Almost half an hour after we finished our main course, everything was still on the table. We would have liked dessert, but because everything took so long, we just left. Even paying took ages.

We visited Altstadt in Düsseldorf for dinner and were delighted. The food was truly delicious: we tried several traditional sausages and a perfectly juicy and flavorful hamburger. Everything arrived at the table cooked to perfection and presented simply yet attractively. The beer was another great choice: fresh, well-poured, and the perfect complement to the dishes. The ambiance of the place also adds a lot, with that traditional old-town feel that makes it even more inviting. The service was friendly, quick, and attentive at all times. Without a doubt, a place we will return to on our next visit to Düsseldorf. Highly recommended!

The food was very disappointing. The fries were too salty and the meat was too dry. The grill was flat. I'd pass on it next time.

Amazing stroganoff. I was there just after noon and was served quickly with a nice beer and food was ready fairly quickly. The sauce was very impressive!

I ordered turkey au gratin with mozzarella and tomato, served with hash browns and vegetables. The vegetables were lukewarm, but still had some bite. The mozzarella was lukewarm, almost cold, and consequently didn't melt, and the turkey was barely there. It was okay as a child's portion, but very, very meager for an adult. The price was €19.50. I absolutely cannot understand the positive reviews!

We were at the wine festival in Düsseldorf over the weekend. Later, we stopped at the "Altstadt Restaurant." The service, ambiance, and value for money were top-notch. I also noticed (at the next table) that many regulars were greeted with warmth and friendship. I would definitely recommend it.

One of the worst schnitzel I had in Germany. Staff is friendly but the food is too expensive for what you get.

Service was really good, the waiter was very friendly with a nice sense of humour and the food came out very quickly. We both ordered a wiener schnitzel, which was really nice and for dessert a soufle that was also very good.

Two of us went there for dinner on a Saturday evening. The service was quick and friendly. The ambiance was nice and rustic, but we could hear a constant loud knocking. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with the food: We both ordered pork schnitzel with fries (Wiener Schnitzel and Pfefferschnitzel). Unfortunately, both schnitzels were about as small as a child's portion, and the portion of fries could have been larger. The presentation was awful. No greens—just schnitzel and fries. No obligatory bread beforehand or the obligatory schnapps afterward. What a shame.

We expected a quaint restaurant with at least solid home-style cooking and at least a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. We got convenience foods that were neither well seasoned nor warm (fried potatoes). The service was either lacking enthusiasm or completely incompetent. Prices were almost exorbitant for the service provided. Conclusion: Bad chip shop food. We won't be back. 3 stars for the very good location.

Very well situated in the old town in an animared small street, the food was great and the waiter was very efficient as well. We chose a platter for two and there was enough food for at least 3 persons.

A pleasant surprise on a very touristy street. The portions are generous and the meats are excellent, served as ordered. The decor is traditional German, but the staff is friendly and creates a great atmosphere. Very reasonable prices. We'll definitely be back.

Had a short break in Dusseldorf and came here for dinner and was lucky to get a table without waiting at around 6pm before the queue was formed. Ordered schweinshaxe and it was very good as the meat was moist and the portion was generous. Best way to sum up my short business trip.

We were warmly welcomed and served quickly. Overall, the food is very meat-heavy, with very little for vegetarians. The baked Camembert seemed to come from a ready-made package and was somewhat carelessly prepared. The meat dish and side dish were okay.

The food was good and the service was really quick we had to wait for about 10 minutes and we already had our food.

Unfortunately very disappointing. The actual dish that we wanted to order and that was on the main menu couldn't be ordered at all. Because it was supposedly too warm. The alternative dish was anything but tasty, all of the meat was not cooked well, neither the beef, poultry nor the pork. For the price you can expect decent goods. We won't go there again.

Yesterday I had dinner in a restaurant with my friend. The food and drinks were excellent. A wide selection of drinks and spirits, very nice waitress and excellent service. We'd love to come back.

Beautiful restaurant in the old town with really outstanding food and the best possible service. My pork medallions with pepper sauce were truly some of the best I've ever tasted. And the price is not very, very cheap for Düsseldorf.

After more than 15 minutes waiting to be served, we left the restaurant. The waiter, quite unfriendly, didn't care about losing customers (we weren't the only ones to get up and leave) And the restaurant was empty... We have not been able to try the food or drink, but we have seen a napkin tucked into the salad plate to be able to absorb all the extra sauce that was on it.

Dined there at the end of March on the "old town trip", everything was great. Nice and friendly service. Delicious salad and fine medallions. Gladly again.

Old and tired restaurant and the food is likewise. Don’t even think about going.

Outside the restaurant was a chalkboard with a special price for the Wiener schnitzel. When it was time to pay we had to pay the full price because they gave us a salad and on the chalkboard was without salad… The salad was horrible it was soaked in mayonnaise…. My schnitzel was the halve of the schnitzels of my friends.

The salad was floating in the cocktail sauce, the price was to much for the food, not going back here

Redelijk eten, maar als bij ren van ons waren de aardappeltjes koud, er werd gezegd dat er nieuwe gebracht werd, helaas is dat niet gebeurd Er werd wel wat geld van de rekening gehaald, maar dat is dan toch net niet hetgene je verwacht in een restaurant. I thought this restaurant looked a bit tired and the seats were not too comfortable. Did have an old German pub vibe. Service was swift and efficient. The food itself was ok I thought that the schweinehaxe was a bit dry and not the best that I had. The sauerkraut was also ok but also nothing special. Overall ok nothing bad to complaints however nothing great. Beer selection was also limited. There was a party of 5 guests and the general consensus was the same

Wij lunchte in dit restaurant tijdens een bezoek aan de kerstmarkt. De chanpignonschnitzel met friet smaakte prima. Friet was vrij zout maar daar hou ik wel van. Personeel deed erg hun best om in de drukke zaak iedereen te bedienen en deed dit met vriendelijkheid. De eerdere recenties die ik lees verbazen me obv onze ervaring die goed was. Het eten was geen culinair hoogstandje maar smaakte prima.

Food was delicious. Unfortunately, some pieces of meat were dry (grilled plates) and two Cevapici were not completely cooked through. The waitress' reaction was just, "I'm sorry." Not more. Too bad. But otherwise we liked it there.

Had dinner on Saturday around 5pm. Very busy, but delicious food. Service was attentive. When we walked out, people were waiting outside, luckily we were on time.

Good food in a nice atmosphere with the best service, so basically 15 stars, what more could you want?

It took a long time for the waitress to take out order and then we waited for 45 minutes and didn’t received our drinks. We then decided to leave the place telling it to them and they almost didn’t apologise. It felt like it was normal to them. The table next to us did it as well right before us.

Este es mi lugar favorito en Dusseldorf! No puedes conseguir un schnitzel en los Estados Unidos como en Alemania, ¡y este lugar lo hace bien! Lo primero que hago cada vez que voy a Alemania es tomar un schnitzel, y voy aquí cuando estoy en Dusseldorf. Me encanta su schnitzel, y tiene un precio bastante razonable. Siempre como fuera, una necesidad para cenar en el casco antiguo. Bastante buena cebolla francesa también, le recomiendo encarecidamente que se detenga cuando visite Dusseldorf.

The six of us ordered six sets I really recommend it if you don’t have a big appetite. You can share a meal with two people, plus order a salad, and a friend ordered a Coke. The waiter said very humorously that you need to drink beer when you come here😆

Wrong sauce was served on schnitzel, sauce was scraped off after complaint, schnitzel was turned over and new sauce was put on it. The taste was a disaster, both sauces were ready and unseasoned, and on top of that there was unfriendly service…

I've been here several times and it's always been delicious, the waiters are very attentive and the atmosphere is really quaint. Thanks, I'll come back soon.

Altstadt tenía buena comida tradicional alemana y cerveza con un amable camarero. El camarero era fluido en inglés, lo que nos ayudó a entender la cocina. Nos gustó tanto que fuimos dos veces durante nuestro viaje!

Just. Good. Food. Almost impossible not to come away feeling satiated and happy.

Avoid – we were recommended this restaurant when checking in but wish we hadn’t bothered. Service is friendly but with only 2 waiters for the whole restaurant and terrace, it was understaffed, as was the kitchen as food took 30 mins to come out. The food was underwhelming - a rosti was in fact frozen hash browns that you can buy from a local supermarket, peppercorn sauce was clearly some orange stuff out of a jar sprinkled with raw peppercorns, and carrots in the vegetable side dish still raw. With so many options in the city, do yourself a favour and avoid eating here.
