We were there on Friday with 12 people. The atmosphere is great, and the food was decent. We stayed for a long time and spent a fair amount of money, but the service was abysmal. So abysmal, in fact, that we won't be coming back. The rudeness, combined with a complete lack of enthusiasm, made it a truly unpleasant experience.

This is an authentic German restaurant that is an old one in Hamburg. It is located underground in an old building. It was brought here by a real Hamburger who is one of the top 10 richest people in the country. The food is very delicious. But what is even more amazing is the beer. It is even more delicious, smooth, fragrant, tasty and easy to drink.

We got a table right away. A very good beer.

The service wasn't generally unfriendly, but it wasn't prompt. We sat there for 15 minutes before the waitress came by. We had to make eye contact several times and make ourselves known. We also only received one beer in a good hour, and we might have had another. The food tasted okay, but not overwhelming. It was from the buffet and unfortunately completely cold. Overall, the processes at this establishment were very complicated and uncoordinated: If you want something from the buffet, you have to get up and get it. However, you're not served there until your drinks have been booked. We therefore had to wait almost 5 minutes at the buffet before we could place our order. Fried potatoes are an exception and are ordered at the table. They arrived 10 minutes after we'd finished everything else. The waitress then told us she'd told us to wait another 3 minutes until we got up and went to the buffet so the food would arrive at the same time. However, we could have waited 10 minutes and still been finished with our meal by the time the fried potatoes arrived. Overall, the value for money is unfortunately not at all good. I wouldn't recommend it.

They charged 5.90 each for 0.4 L of tap water that we ordered together with the beers. Scammers!

The atmosphere in the cellar vault is very pleasant. The food was also decent, but quite expensive for what was offered. The service was friendly, but seemed rather uncoordinated and chaotic.

A lovely, traditional German restaurant with great food and their own beer. One very negative point: they charged us €5.20 per jug ​​for two pitchers of water. It's obvious you shouldn't order water; it's more expensive than beer, and they don't even tell you. But the rest was great. 👌🏻

Hamburg's oldest brewery is located in the basement of a Baroque building built around the 16th century. It survived World War II and brews beer using a 16th-century recipe. If you're visiting the Maritime Museum, it's a 5-minute walk away, about 500 meters. It's convenient because the seven-story museum takes up almost the entire day, and if you want to see it, the brewery doesn't open until 4:00, so you can simply enjoy a hearty lunch of German sausages and delicious beer. I highly recommend it.

There's no way there aren't any comments in Chinese. I'm here to contribute. Except for one short, chubby waiter, everyone else had no facial expression control. It's exactly like what the other reviews say. But the pork knuckle is a really good value. Even a guy with a big appetite couldn't finish it (and it got a bit greasy after a while). I thought it was pretty good (though I've only had it in Melbourne). I don't know why they didn't bring me bread (it was clearly on the menu, and I only asked for it). I don't know why there were so many Koreans (there weren't many East Asians on the street). It was amazing. The seating inside seemed like it was for large groups. Individuals or couples were assigned to beer barrel-shaped tables (the chairs were really uncomfortable). At the end, they did ask for a tip. It seemed like they'd ask the person who originally served you to pay the bill, so I assumed I'd give it to him anyway, so I did. (The bill is printed out first, and then the tip is asked, so those who need to pay might not be able to do so.) The internet was poor, but thankfully there was free WiFi. Overall, it's still recommended (if you focus on the food itself and the atmosphere of chatting with friends)~

Spectacular, beautiful restaurant, worth a visit with a very cool atmosphere, and a very well-appointed setting. The food is great, lots of variety and very traditional. Very good food + very good beer. A place to visit and recommend in Hamburg. I just wanted to mention the service: the girl who served us at the entrance was very curt and "unpleasant", serious and with little desire to work. The waiter who served us was very nice and attentive throughout the meal, although his attitude changed radically when he brought me the bill and I said "no" to the tip, since he explained it to me in an unclear way, and I didn't like his "almost obligatory" attitude at all. We went today, August 29, 2025, at 4:00 PM, just as they were opening.

I came here after reading a comment about authentic German food in reddit. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. Although the restaurant was deserted, as a solo guest, I couldn't sit at a normal table. Instead, I was forced to sit on an uncomfortable barstool next to a barrel, which felt uwelcoming. It gave the impression that single diners aren’t valued here. Thus, I decided to leave without eating and went elsewhere.

The food is good but the service is very bad, we accidentally spilled a beer on the table and they did nothing but give us napkins so we could clean it up ourselves and the waitress said bad luck, as a joke I guess but we were hoping someone would come and clean it up, in the end we ordered something to go and they gave us a container so we could pack it up directly, it's not a big deal but we definitely expected more, it used to be a place to recommend and one of our favorites but no more

Although a bit pricey, the food is good quality, and the waiters are very friendly. One detail we didn't like is that when you pay, they force you to leave a tip, and I think that's something everyone should decide on. They also made a mistake with the order, but the quality and quantity were good.

Hey, I come to Gröninger regularly. The beer is really good, but the price-performance ratio is out of control. A 0.4-liter Sommerbock is 5.90, not to mention the soft drinks...sorry, but it's never worth it. Solid beer, nice service, but the price might be okay for tourists, but you won't win regulars that way. We might see you again when you become more realistic, otherwise, all the best... I've been there several times, always enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and drinks. The same was my experience at yesterday's visit, however the last interaction with the staff was a serious Pull-Off as they asked twice for tips. Usually, I am more than happy to pay a tip for the outstanding and extraordinary service, but if the waiter starts asking for it, then it pulls me off, in fact, it spoiled our evening. Never am I going to put my legs or money in this place again, unless they change behaviour.

Beautiful old brewery cellar. The food has always been great! We've always been here with larger groups and have never been disappointed. One of the best knuckles of pork I've ever eaten. The draft beer is also delicious 🍻 I'd love to come back!

We were there with a group. We had a reservation and pre-ordered food. What can I say... we waited almost two hours for the food, and then some of it was even wrong. But after two hours of waiting, you get a pork knuckle instead of a burger. The food tasted good. It's incredibly loud in there, even though there are somewhat separate areas. We could only talk to our immediate neighbors. The service staff tried hard, but they can't perform magic. We will definitely NOT be back.

We came here for dinner with work, and it was great. Nice and friendly service, and fast, delicious food. It's clean and the prices are completely reasonable.

This is the only microbrewery in the center of Hamburg. The beer on tap is fresh and unpasteurized. The interior is nicely decorated, with many separate compartments for companies of different sizes. There are also bar tables along the aisles for those who want to watch the crowd (instead of a bar counter, which is not there). The staff is German sourdough, I didn't notice any foreigners. Depending on the rotation, some beers are only available in bottles, pasteurized.

I came here on a business trip alone and found this place while searching for a good beer place. The reviews were good, so I walked here for 20 minutes. I ordered a beer and half a haksen and spent some leisurely time alone. The beer was good, and the haksen was not salty and delicious.

Had a men's evening there that was horrible. We reserved a barrel to sit on. But there was none left on site. Then we wanted to order drinks but that didn't work either. After waiting for 20 minutes, I went to the front and got us drinks. And the store wasn't full otherwise I would have been able to understand it. In between we ordered a knuckle. So what can I say... it couldn't be worse. Like you want to eat a piece of wood. Served carelessly. Bread was also hard and dry. So really terrible. And last but not least, you were in a bad mood because there was no tip. The only question is why... We'll never go there again...

The menu leaves a lot to be desired, there is hardly any good choice of drinks, ice cold drinks are non-existent and the menu is manageable. In that sense, have a pleasant evening and have fun in a restaurant where you won't be happy for your money.

Good beer and food, but incredibly slow service. Maybe it's because we sat right in front of the porter. We ate from the menu, but if you go to the back behind the bar, you will find that they have much more food. E.g. goulash.

In all of Hamburg, I liked this restaurant the most. We didn't get to try the food, because the kitchen was open until 9 p.m. The atmosphere is extremely interesting, the interior is extremely interesting, the beer is excellent, as is the service. Special kudos to the waitress with blue eyes and blonde hair. She is very lovely. If I ever return to Hamburg, I will definitely come to this restaurant.

The Gröninger Privatbrauerei is a traditional German Beerhouse/brewery. The Menu is quite short and expensive. The Beer is tasty. The atmosphere is amazing. You feel like in the 18th sanctuary. The 10l Beer barrel it's nice for pictures, but not so easy to tap the beer. It have a big head, so you need to wait until all can drink the Beer.

I had the best experience with this place, specifically with the people there, they were absolutely nice and polite. The best option if you have guests from outside Germany

I've eaten at several restaurants with good reviews. Here's everything from the outside to the inside! It's not salty and delicious. I ordered 1 liter of beer after reading other reviews, and it went well with the Hakse. However, it did not become my favorite because it had a bitter taste. The atmosphere is nice and I recommend it. It was nice to be able to find a seat and take my order quickly. + I think you have to pay 1 euro to go to the bathroom. There was a staff member guarding the bathroom entrance. I have to go to the bathroom often after drinking beer. How can I hold on? Therefore, I deducted 1 star. Other than that it's perfect! I came alone and paid 30.4 euros for 1/2 Schwein school tax and 1 liter of beer, and no tip was required.

Old Private Brewery in heart of Hamburg. They offer 20L barrel and you with colleagues can drink it all. They have own brewing equipment and beer is excellent. Food was also very taste. For sure will come back when I'm again in Hamburg

We planned to go to another restaurant for our quick visit to Hamburg, but it was fully booked. Then somebody recommeded this restaurant. We loved it: food was tasty and warm, beer was on point, and the service was great. Jasmina, one of the waitress, was super helpful and kind, and answered all our questions with no hesitation. Visiting the Keller Brewery with friends. At first you think "Oh cool, comfortable like sitting in a wine cellar". But the reality, well. When we came in we immediately noticed a very musty smell. Maybe we should ventilate it? And we distinguish between positive things (smell of wood, etc.) and the indoor climate there...It wasn't comfortable. We had reserved a table. The beer is tasty, but the wait staff isn't very attentive. And unfortunately the food didn't really impress us.

At a company party I wanted to dine at Gröninger as a guest. All the food was ordered beforehand. My choice was a burger. Since I was unfortunately unable to attend due to illness, I called immediately on the day of the celebration at the specified opening time. The burger could not be canceled. A brewery or a traditional pub with beautiful catacombs and its own beer production. Gröninger is characterized by hearty German cuisine and delicious beer. Since the inn is very long and can accommodate 200 guests, the noise level is always a bit high, which is appropriate in a restaurant like this. The decor is rustic and there are long tables where you can sit in a convivial atmosphere. Ideal for company parties, birthdays or bachelorette parties.

My first and last time there. I order Juice, the waiter joked that it was a drink for children. A bit a bad joke, because I had alcoholic problem… Toilet inside need to be paid for, service often ignored us, because we were talking in English language, for German customers they cared a lot. Very quaint restaurant with a great ambience. The menu is simple, but there is something for every taste. The only criticism is perhaps that a few more vegetarian options would be great. But you could also argue that there are better places to go for vegetarian options. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. You just immediately felt comfortable.

We really liked the food (hock, roast sausages with cabbage, burger) and ambience. The service was fine due to the rush hour. With a lot of goodwill, this fact is worth 3 stars to me. Why? Now that the location is a brewery, I expect a lively brewery culture in all aspects. In my opinion, this requirement was unfortunately not the case for the core competency – beer. We tried the in-house Pils, which was brewed based on the beer style in question. In any case, this beer was not lean, fresh and appropriately hopped. Also cloudy-copper colored and with a roasted malt note that is not typical of the style. Independence or not, we were more than happy that we didn't order a 10 liter barrel of it. However, a look at the menu, which was quite poorly presented, made my beer drinker's heart beat faster. Namely because there was a Helles on the menu. This was ordered straight away and the next disappointment followed in the form of bottled beer. As already mentioned, we are in a brewery. Is it asking too much to offer 3-4 beers on tap under these circumstances? Precisely because the light beer from the bottle tasted pretty average and the cask factor would definitely have enhanced this product. How can I let a beer style, which has been gaining more and more market share in Germany in recent years, disappear from my menu and maintain it so inappropriately? So I'm not surprised that no other guest had a light beer on the table. But maybe that's just irrelevant to the average beer-is-beer drinker. The Gröninger couldn't meet my expectations of a brewery with its beer portfolio.

Beer is excellent. Having tried it we made a point of returning, as my husband said it "went down easily"! Someone said lack of choice, well when you have beer as good as this and you brew it why sell anything else? Best beer we found in Hamburg and Berlin, only wished they sold it at home! Food good too and great atmosphere. Perfect! Food looks excellent, I was just sad we weren't in a group and couldn't have the 10L of beer served in a keg at the table and the special platter they offer for four. It's huge and has a fabulous atmosphere, the staff were attentive and friendly without being pushy.

Fried potatoes are only available from the kitchen, even though it's listed under "buffet" on the menu. So you go back to the table with the food from the buffet to order fried potatoes separately. These came 15 minutes later, basically for dessert. This is poorly organized for such a large store. Toilets apparently clean, but it smelled in there the whole evening! At least the beer there is delicious, but that's about it. Maybe nice for tourists, but there are much better shops in Hamburg

quite a deception this restaurant. Went there last night. It is located in the cellar with is quite unique. But the place is extremely noisy, difficult to have conversations in there. The menu offers typical german meat based meals . There the confusion starts. You have a part of it that is by the Kg other for the entire table. I had to go at the bar to order and get the meat (leberkäse) than order fried potatoes (Bratkartoffeln) at the waiter at my table. So i had just my pice of meat without sides .. than later the fried potatoes came when the meat were already kind of cold. The meat is of good quality but with little taste, the potatoes, baked with bacon also were missing salt… Only thing that was great was the waiter and the bier.. than for the quality of food the price was quite high

I want to go back. A place where you can drink real beer. It's very sad that all the beers in the world are factory beers after drinking beer here.

We had a nice experience there. The food was good, the pork knuckle was not dry, and even though our German is poor, all of them communicated with us in English with no problem. Staff very nice towards us, even if the house was very full. Please do reserve a seat. This place is highly recommended!
