Altes Handelshaus in Plauen

We were here for dinner this evening with 22 colleagues. We had pre-ordered. The seating was very cramped in a private room. After 90 minutes, we were still waiting for our food. After my persistent request, it was finally served quickly. The bacon, which is usually excellent, was of poor quality. The staff tried their best but were untrained. The women's restrooms were filthy. In summary, I have to say it was a lot of money for very little service. A once satisfied customer, forever less.

Yesterday was my first time eating at Hadelshaus, and it was quite disappointing. It was very busy, and I appreciated that the waitress had informed us beforehand that it might take a while. The waiters were all incredibly friendly, no complaints there, but I felt it was utter chaos. Different people kept coming to our table, then we'd order, and then the whole ordeal would begin. I had to wait half an hour for just one drink. Then came the food, which had already taken a long time, and some people had ordered sauerbraten and schnitzel. The schnitzel was okay, a bit dry, and there was no sauce, let alone any offer of ketchup or anything else. The side salad was so inedibly bitter and heavy with caraway that it was completely unpalatable. The sauerbraten was also a huge disappointment. How can you get so little on your plate for the price? One slice that was barely recognizable as a slice – what was it supposed to be? The meal included one dumpling, which I personally found quite meager, and a few cranberries. The worst part was that everyone who had sauerbraten and had already started eating well was then served the red cabbage quite a while later, by which time they felt they had almost finished their sauerbraten because the portion was so small, and you could easily empty your plate. And the drinks weren't great either. They offered a Coke that you'd think was drinkable, but no, you couldn't. I don't know if that particular brand is heavily focused on zero-calorie drinks, but not everyone wants to drink zero-calorie beverages. They should definitely offer other options as well! So, that was my first and last visit there. What a shame!

A fantastic restaurant with a menu... simply fantastic. And everything was very, very delicious... the rooms are a journey into the past... but comfortable.

We were there for lunch. The food was okay, the restaurant was quaint, and the service was friendly, but we were greeted rudely and told to step back before we could say anything. Before that, we stood in the hallway for 10 minutes, unsure where to go, and were ignored by the staff the entire time – it was awful. The woman who showed us to our table was completely annoyed and overwhelmed. We certainly won't be coming back.

We ate here this evening, and the restaurant was very, very busy. However, when I went to pay, I couldn't help but overhear the owner shouting at her staff in front of the other guests, which I found unacceptable, especially since these staff members were serving everyone and were very courteous and friendly. For this reason, I cannot recommend this restaurant, quite apart from the fact that while the plates were warm, my sauerbraten was cold.

Although the food was quite good, there was a dog that kept wandering around the restaurant and sniffing at some of the plates. This was very unappetizing while eating. A shame.

The food was okay, but the dog constantly roaming around was unhygienic; overall, the place now unfortunately has a run-down and shabby feel. It's a shame, it used to be a good place in Plauen.

We were a large group and received excellent service. The food was delicious. The price-performance ratio is great!

The service was poor; the dishes were brought out 15 minutes apart, so the first guests had finished long before the last ones received their food. Furthermore, the red cabbage was missing from the sauerbraten; it was provided after we asked (but only for two-thirds of the dishes). We had reserved a table with two strollers, but we had to carry them down to the basement, even though there was plenty of room for us on the ground floor. Despite the high prices, the portion sizes were sometimes far too small (except for the duck). The children's portion was so small that even a three-year-old would need two portions. However, the quality of the food was good to very good. We would recommend trying a different restaurant.

A beautiful location that invites you to linger. The restaurant was very busy. The menu was very limited, and the selection of dishes left something to be desired. The service was very friendly and helpful, however, communication problems arose due to the different nationalities of the staff. We waited about 90 minutes for our food. It tasted very good, but personally, I wasn't satisfied for the price.

We drove over 420 kilometers that day for a Vogtland Sauerbraten (sauerbraten) and Bambes (roasted pork). Given the price of diesel, that speaks volumes about how good the food is at the Handelshaus, doesn't it? It's quite cozy inside; we opted for the outdoor seating this time because of the good weather. A good choice. Even though a wedding reception was being held that day, the service left nothing to be desired. The food was served quickly and was excellent. I probably won't be driving that long way for the last time.

A very well-kept restaurant with good regional cuisine. A pleasant atmosphere, friendly and attentive waiters, and a well-stocked menu. In the summer, a quiet beer garden invites you to relax. We only came here for dinner, as we're from Plauen, so we can't comment on the hotel's operations.

We went there for dinner, not for the first time. Unfortunately, it was so bad this time that we won't be going again. It took an extremely long time for the food to arrive, and not just for us. We were served zander, some of which was already bad (we only noticed after a few minutes; the fish already smelled, even though it was fried very crisply). The shift manager eventually came over and justified it by saying that it wasn't their fault that the food was frozen (instead of simply apologizing and offering a replacement or something similar). She then brought something as compensation (although not until 25 minutes later, by which time everyone had basically finished eating).

Waited 1 1/2 hours for food...all guests who came after us got their food before us...when we asked, we were told it was in the works...food was forgotten.

I can only review the restaurant, not the hotel. Great rustic ambiance, lovely courtyard with seating, attentive service, and above all: excellent food.

Since it wasn't that busy, we got a table without a reservation. Everything seemed clean to us, and the restrooms also made a good impression. If you're looking for good German cuisine, you'll definitely find it here. Prices are in the upper mid-range. Expect to pay €30 to €40 per person, including an appetizer. That's still quite reasonable, and we were really full after the main course. There's nothing to criticize about the quality of the food either. It was both very tasty and beautifully presented. Unfortunately, we weren't completely satisfied. While it's usual in other restaurants to be served by one server, here there was always a different person at the table. This meant that we had to constantly explain who ordered what, etc. We were sitting near the cupboard where cutlery is kept, and unfortunately, we noticed the following situation, which we still find really unacceptable, which is why I'm deducting two stars from the overall rating. One of the servers was putting away cutlery and dropped some on the floor. This happens and is not a problem, but then the cutlery was picked up and simply put in the cupboard without being wiped down with a cloth or something similar. Since the cutlery cupboard is located directly next to a doorway and both server and guests walk past it, it is not very hygienic. As luck would have it, we saw the same thing happen again with another server. So: She wanted to put away cutlery and it fell to the floor. The reaction? She picked it up, wiped it on her trousers and then put it back in. We therefore recommend hanging a tea towel in the cupboard so that you can quickly wipe down any dropped cutlery. This is more hygienic and also looks better.

We're a bit into vintage design, so we hit the nail on the head with the rooms. Absolutely top-notch. The only point deducted was because we actually wanted to eat in the restaurant, and they only informed us the day before our arrival that they would be closed on the day of our arrival. Despite all that, we would definitely book again.

A very pleasant ambiance in the heart of Plauen's old town. Separate rooms for family or company celebrations, as well as a beautiful beer garden/guest garden, round out the extensive range of facilities. The food and drink menus offer a wide selection for all tastes, especially excellent Vogtland cuisine and much more. The competent, friendly staff also impressed us. We were extremely satisfied and would gladly return.

Super authentic and cozy cellar vault! Excellent beer selection, and the stuffed schnitzel was juicy and the breading crispy and buttery – simply perfect! We were just passing through, but we'd love to come back! Highly recommended!

Unique ambiance! A beautiful, cozy beer garden in the courtyard. The bar is full of antique decor, but not like Messi's, but neatly and tastefully arranged. I like that kind of thing! The Indian-style trout was delicious, and I also liked the sea buckthorn wheat beer. The prices are reasonable. The Indian (?) staff still had a bit of a problem at times.

You really have to take in all the impressions on the walls before sitting down to eat or drink. The atmosphere is superb, with a very pleasant rustic feel. A creative menu and drinks list makes it difficult to pick the best. But it was delicious. Why, however, I only partially understand when I ordered a red lemonade that resulted in a Waltmeister cucumber drink. 🤣 The espresso added to the satisfaction.

We were thrilled by the magical ambience and the special selection of food and drinks... Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to try the incredible variety of drinks... an abundance of delicious juices, unusual tea combinations and mixed drinks with fresh fruit puree, delicious... We were then overwhelmed by the breakfast with a magnificent selection of breads and spreads that are second to none... The buffet decorations could be awarded more than 5 stars and the fruit too... dark red, fully ripe strawberries, blackcurrants, blueberries, watermelon and honeydew melon, aromatic apricots and peaches, as if you were in the south, plums and grapes... You can sit both inside and outside. The lush greenery makes the microclimate in the idyllic courtyard garden wonderful, even on very hot days...Our room was also beautifully decorated; I even think our bed was extra long, because I couldn't reach the headboard with my arms fully extended...Connoisseurs of opulent fabrics and colorful wall designs, as well as beautiful antiques, will find many finely coordinated details at the Altes Handelshaus. It's a shame we have to travel 2.5 hours; otherwise, we would be regular weekly guests.

Waren früher häufiger hier und immer sehr zufrieden. Heute allerdings haben wir 1,5h aufs Essen gewartet, nach ca. 1h Wartezeit wurde uns gesagt, dass eine Beilage aus ist. Als Ersatz wurde Rotkohl zum Schnitzel empfohlen. Qualität lässt leider auch zu Wünschen übrig. Schade.

Wir haben eine kleine Cola bestellt aber sie haben bei allen eine große Cola abgerechnet und besonders freundlich wären sie auch nicht also empfehlen würde ich es ihnen nicht dort essen zu gehen

Wie hier schon mehrfach von anderen Gästen geschrieben, unterscheiden sich die Preise "online" und "offline", online vorbestellt, weil wir gelesen haben, dass die Leute teils 2h auf Ihr Essen warten müssen, einige Speisen waren dann bis 6€ teurer( war wohl in den 5 Tagen wieder eine Hyperinflation 🧐🤣) Kurz nur zu meinem Essen: Ich hatte Bierfleisch oder so ähnlich bestellt, jeder im Vogtland weiß wie sowas annähernd zu schmecken hat, bekommen habe ich eine Pampe aus Fleisch, die einen widerlichen(als hätte ein 🍺Trinker ein Schnitzel wieder🤮)Geruch am Tisch entfaltete. Weiter sag ich dazu nichts. Meine Kinder hatten Zanderfilet bestellt ( Forelle war wohl wie immer aus🤣), das Filet war in der Vorbestellung mit 18,90€ ausgepriesen in der Karte dann stolze 24,90€! Zum Personal sag ich jetzt nichts, da wurde schon einiges darüber geschrieben

Nettes Restaurant in einem alten Gebäude mit schönem Ambiente und guter Auswahl an Gerichten. Die Portionen könnten aber dem Preis angemessen etwas großzügiger sein.

Previously the first house in the city, currently unfortunately a shadow of its former self. Still wonderful ambience, great location, food unfortunately loveless and no longer of good quality - such a shame! Service staff are often well-trained, but unfortunately they are usually completely overwhelmed. You have to plan for long waiting times. It would be a pleasure for us if everything got better again, for which we keep our fingers crossed! The city urgently needs good restaurants!

We were there for lunch. The female waiter was annoyed, even though we were very nice. The guys there are great. I had sauerbraten and it didn't taste the way I know it. The red cabbage was great.

I was in the restaurant with friends and overall I was very impressed. I found the atmosphere chic and we received a friendly welcome. The food was delicious, but there was also a wait. I think there is still some room for improvement in terms of service.

Found this wonderful pearl in Plauen by chance. All rooms have their own charm and are furnished with a lot of love. Food was very good and regional. Staff very friendly. The restaurant actually deserves five stars, but we waited over an hour for our food; therefore only 4 stars.

It was once again a great evening yesterday in the Handelshaus. The staff, as always, do their job very well. They are friendly and always willing to listen to the guests' concerns.

Bad service, food that was on the menu couldn't be ordered and what was left was almost cold, no wonder you had to wait more than an hour. The food didn't even come at the same time, meaning the first person had already finished eating when the last person finally got their food. Doesn't work at all. Very disappointing.

The trading company has always had better or worse days in terms of quality. Today we were there again for several years. Unfortunately it was one of the latter. Roast beef is a Handelshaus classic, but it's even worse that the preparation has always varied greatly. Today, however, it was by far the worst, the original dark, strong sauce gave way to a light (?) sauce that was probably just quickly thickened with flour to apprentice level. The pepper note was also extreme. The fact that the staff is talking loudly in Chinese throughout the restaurant seems strange in a restaurant with this self-chosen theme, and the dishes, which are Asian, don't change that. Price/performance 2 stars

I haven't eaten so well in a long time. Very nice atmosphere, friendly service and great cuisine. You have to eat here! P.S. No, the dog is not the dessert. But a charming visitor at our table.

Basically nice - we had the Sleeping Beauty room, it was nice, clean but a bit lacking in facilities in the bathroom. The hotel can't help it that the sidewalk in Plauen is opened at 8 p.m. We got another soup.... Breakfast was German good.

A great restaurant with different areas. The guest room is rustic and yet very tastefully furnished. The garden area with its vines and simple furniture is reminiscent of a wine bar on the Upper Rhine or in Italy. The garden shed itself is lovingly furnished with furniture and decorations from the beginning of the 19th century. The service, drinks and food are just great. Many thanks to the operators. Here you can simply feel good.

Very nice place, very friendly service and good feeling. Unfortunately, the food was simple and not particularly special (onion soup was bland, Bambes (the house specialty) didn't taste fresh, Rostbrätel was relatively small and fried onions weren't particularly roasty. Vanilla ice cream with hot raspberries was on our event menu, but vanilla ice cream was out, Cocktails (with or without alcohol) goods excellent!!

Great ambience, but the quality of the cuisine/dishes has clearly deteriorated. The service in the restaurant is still good to very good. It used to be our first choice in Plauen, but unfortunately that's over. A pity.

Yesterday I was in the old trading house again for 6 years. You can't expect much more from the food. I think some company canteens cook much better. At 10 p.m. all guests were asked to pay; the entire staff was overwhelmed by this self-created situation. It's a shame, it used to be a very nice place.

This beautifully designed building "Alte Handelshaus" is located almost in the center of Plauen. We were totally fascinated by the ambience inside the rustic dining room. So lovingly furnished with a very nice beer garden. We would particularly like to highlight the very courteous and flexible team and their boss. If we were to get stranded in Plauen again, we would 100% choose the “Alte Handelshaus” for dinner. It is highly recommended. Wir waren zufällig am Pfingstmontag im alten Handelshaus und sehr positiv überrascht.Ein uriges,geschichtsträchtiges Gasthaus,netter Service und vorallem hervorragende Küche!Wir fanden die Bambes in verschiedenen Variationen und als Dessert das Schokoeis mit Chilisosse köstlich!Weiter so!Wir kommen wieder!

Tolles Haus mit schöner Atmosphäre.Essen war sehr lecker. Weshalb nicht volle Punktzahl ist, die Karte auf der Internetseite ist zwischen 3 bis 5€ günstiger pro Gericht als es in Wirklichkeit war. Finde ich schade da Ostern aktualisiert wurde bei den Gerichten

I've been coming to the Handelshaus in Plauen to eat once or twice a year for about 20 years, usually 5-8 people. I was there in August 2023 and was very surprised by the staff that now works in this historic traditional restaurant, the food and also the service In August, he was no longer the person I had known for 20 years, now last Friday the 4 of us were back in the trading house. The impudence we experienced there from the staff and then also from the management was the last straw after 4 times still no food for one of the 4 people, the others were already finished, then this strange guy says... "Waiter" maybe I've already eaten, I didn't know what else to say, then asked the management, who couldn't cope with the situation at all and expelled us from the restaurant. I can only advise all Plauen visitors not to visit this restaurant, which is not exactly cheap. Plauen offers so many beautiful and very good restaurants that you don't have to go to this shop with zero service.

I've rarely had such a bad meal 👎👎 Fried veal cordon bleu is just not possible!! Staff tried to make the best of it. Bill for over 400 € (funeral service) had to leave the restaurant at 3 p.m.!! Impudence.

Had a christening party there today. Brought home some decorations a few days ago so I don't have to wear it to the party. Everything was lovingly and beautifully designed, the service was very nice and the food tasted great, lots of sauce, delicious dumplings... Absolutely amazing!!!

It was the last time for us. The food is carelessly prepared. Salads are served plain without any dressing or seasoning, although it is the main side dish in some dishes. When making Rostbrätel, liver is simply used etc.

We recently had dinner at the trading house again. It was very busy during the week and we were happy to have reserved. The food was very good for me, I had the beetroot Bambes and a delicious non-alcoholic cocktail. My companion had, among other things, the sauerbraten, which could probably be improved. For example, there was no red cabbage and the plate with the dumpling and the meat looked a bit bleak. Also, this sauce was probably not salted enough. We know this differently from the trading company and will keep an eye on it. The service was very good as always! Fast and friendly and the food came to the table at a rapid pace.
