Altes Gasthaus Leve in Münster

We went there spontaneously on Friday, arriving shortly after 8 pm, and it was packed. We decided to wait. And that was the best decision! 👌 It's a really cozy restaurant, with exclusively highly motivated and professional staff. Fantastic German food, the kind you rarely find these days. We're unfortunately not in Münster very often, but this restaurant will definitely be a must-visit! 👍

Not only is it an incredibly cozy restaurant, but it's also a really lovely one. The food is excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will gladly return soon.

The kitchen is super clean and the food at Leve's is always top-notch, but it's definitely Westphalian! The price-performance ratio is average for Münster, but without a reservation, you'll almost certainly get in. Or you'll have to wait at the bar with a delicious Altbier punch. We love Leve! ***** This review is 4 years old, but Leve's is still fantastic and great... The complaints are on a very high level... It's loud and dark. If it were quiet and bright, I'd probably be in St. Lambert's Church! In fact, most of the comments are from men, and this species is here the longest and, sorry, also the loudest. The steaks are very good, the desserts, the wines... Everything is sophisticated, the service is incredibly fast and friendly for such a large restaurant. And last but not least: the kitchen is super clean! I used to go to Leve's on and off, but unfortunately, it's now closed on Sundays. But the food at Eee's is unbeatable, and not expensive for the amount you get... Everything tastes divine, like Mom's cooking... The staff is friendly and busy all day long, fulfilling your requests as quickly as possible. For me, it's the ultimate... And I've eaten all over the world!!!!

I was there during the Christmas season (December 23rd) and had the chance to try the goose dish: it was delicious! Perfect flavor and texture. My wife tried the hare stew and it was also delicious. Highly, highly recommended. Moreover, the service (middle-aged German ladies) was as friendly as Germans can be 😜 and efficient. Good beers and a tavern with all the charm that authenticity provides. If you're in Münster, it's an excellent choice.

Food was delicious and the serving was very generous! My sister is vegetarian and gluten free and she managed to find a lovely dish for her to eat! Staff were lovely :)

This ancient inn has incredible charm. The space exudes a historical energy, and the people who run it are clearly aware of their heritage. There's a generous menu featuring traditional home-style cooking. Everything is delicious, if you like it. The staff clearly enjoy their work and are very good at it, and it shows! This place deserves high praise, and you can't go wrong with it. Anyone considering visiting this inn should be aware: quality comes at a price, and reservations are absolutely essential!

Super cozy and good old German Gasthaus.

We were disappointed. On previous visits, both the quality and service were impeccable. This time, we had barely fried, tasteless fries with a sinewy, greasy schnitzel.

Excellent, very traditional dishes, highly professional, very friendly and attentive service – you simply feel at ease. A "must" in Münster and a clear recommendation!

Today I went to this restaurant with family. It was very busy, but after a short wait, the friendly staff showed us to a table. We were able to sit comfortably and have a good conversation. Santa Claus even stopped by and handed out sweets. The main course we ordered—a large schnitzel, etc.—was excellent and plentiful. Everything tasted delicious. The service was very attentive and friendly. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality. My impression: The price-performance ratio was excellent. We will gladly come again.

We were told on the phone that we could come without a reservation and that we might have to wait a little while. After arriving about 30 minutes later, we were told that the place was too full and we were turned away. One should really have enough competence to judge the capacity of one's own establishment. What a shame.

One of Münster's long-established restaurants. A large menu with delicious food. I would have liked a wider selection of non-alcoholic drinks. It has plenty of space, which is noticeable in the noise level. Nevertheless, reservations are highly recommended!

I grabbed lunch here on a Saturday and the place was packed. I didn’t have a reservation, but they still managed to accommodate me. From the person who walked me to my table to Natalie who took care of me, everyone was genuinely lovely. They noted my food preferences, and Natalie even made great beer recommendations. I’d definitely come back!

Anyone wanting to experience Westphalian hospitality, Westphalian ambiance, and enjoy Westphalian cuisine will find themselves right at home in this iconic restaurant. The price-performance ratio is excellent. Dining here was a wonderful experience. We'll definitely be back on our next visit to Münster.

Not making a reservation isn't a problem if you don't mind waiting at the bar. It's bustling and the restaurant is always fully booked, so it can take a while. But it's more than worth the wait. The food is excellent. Plenty of choices, though the prices are a bit higher on average, but that shouldn't spoil the fun. Definitely recommended after a day of shopping in a charming city with plenty of options for everyone.

Mushrooms were perfectly seasoned and seared, schnitzel was juicy and tender. Comes with salad and yogurt dressing which was amazing, complementing the saltiness of the meat.

I would recommend visiting this restaurant for the exceptional ambiance alone. The atmosphere is incredibly rustic and very traditional. The service was attentive, helpful, and charming. Anyone looking for good, authentic German cuisine will also find it here. Many dishes are homemade, and all the expected classics were available. My only regret is that I couldn't try more. (And that I didn't ask for my waiter's number.) 😅

We stopped by with our small bowling group while passing through for a beer. It's well worth it: good German food and friendly service. The other guests didn't complain about us either, which is rare these days. Keep it up, you're great! The food is reasonably priced, and the service is nice and friendly!

The Gasthaus Leve is always great. We drive 50km to eat there. The space, the attentive service, and of course, the excellent food make up for the long journey. We've already made reservations for next time.

A truly authentic inn in a typically German style, just what you'd love. Everything is just right from start to finish, and the value for money leaves nothing to be desired. A wonderful and cozy atmosphere, not too loud, and the food is in a class of its own. We'll be back soon.

A very old "gasthaus" (inn). Very busy on a Friday evening. We had to wait for a table and for our food. Definitely worth it. Dishes that have been on the menu since 1936. Professional service. Beautiful old decor and atmosphere.

We ate there every day one weekend. A very good selection at reasonable prices! Everything was delicious, and service like nothing I've experienced anywhere in the last 10 years.

Everything was great and the food was very tasty

I was there with seven people on Friday evening. Making a reservation was easy, and from the reception at the door to the billing, it was a wonderful evening. The service was great, attentive without being intrusive, and the food was delicious. Even though the restaurant was full, everything went smoothly.

1 star. A disgrace for such "service." The queue here is pure fiction. They deliberately made us wait and then simply seated other guests while pretending we didn't exist. The administrators lie to your face and pass the buck. This isn't service, it's a mockery of the guests. After such treatment, you have no desire to ever return.

We visited this restaurant as a group and, despite the restaurant being fairly full, experienced exceptionally friendly, prompt, and very attentive service. My meal, from the appetizer to the dessert, was highly recommended. It was a truly wonderful evening after a very strenuous day—exactly what we needed. Thank you so much!

Perfect! That's how you can describe the place. Great service, delicious food, and tasty beer. Good cuisine, fitting for a brewery. If you like hearty, solid food, this is the place for you.

Highly recommended! My family and I actually wanted to eat somewhere else today. But after receiving a rude welcome, we decided to go to Leve instead. They simply know how to serve top-notch food: super friendly, even though we didn't have a reservation, great, delicious, plentiful food, and a lovely atmosphere. We'd love to go again!

The decor is dated, fitting the name. The food was great. I had the Jägerschnitzel, the Pfanneschnitzel, fresh mushrooms, and the fries were excellent. You hardly get them these days. Almost everywhere they only serve frozen fried food. The service was also very friendly. The price/performance ratio was completely reasonable.

We were there for dinner and had a reservation. The selection of food and drinks is very large. The prices are a bit high for my budget, but you get enough for it. The food, however, tasted very good. Our server was friendly and there when your glass was empty. The restaurant was very busy and accordingly very loud. You could still have a conversation with your neighbor, but definitely not that evening. Overall, we were still very satisfied with the service and the food.

Beautiful restaurant with excellent food. Delicious red cabbage and perfect (!) knuckle of pork. It was worth the 650 km drive. The service was excellent. The waitresses were very friendly and attentive, especially to children. The bartenders were very friendly. Thank you very much.

A very old and traditional restaurant. They offer a selection of typical inn dishes as well as Westphalian dishes. The service was very friendly and attentive. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys German food and a pub atmosphere. The caraway bread with Mett (a kind of meat) was really fresh and delicious. Highly recommended as a small appetizer.

Gigantic portions, historic interior, friendly waiter

It's very nice old restaurant, German style Staffs were nice and friendly, speak very well English. At first we got German menu then we tried to use Translate then they offer English menu, that's easier 😄 Food were really nice. I'm enjoyed my Pork knuckles till last bite! My husband had beef olive, he said it's really good too. For dessert we had Quark. Also nice and refreshing.

The guesthouse has been around since 1604 and looks cozy inside with all sorts of rooms and old tiles. The staff is very friendly and hospitable. It must be one of the best restaurants in Münster for regional cuisine. I must also say that it looked delicious on the plates of other guests. We went for the Wiener Schnitzel. We got two enormous schnitzels and a small dish of potatoes and bacon in a sauce. It was a bit soggy and not very good. They should have just served fried potatoes with bacon. There was nothing else besides a red fruit sauce for the schnitzels. The schnitzels were very tasty, though. The place was packed, and we had to wait a bit for a table. Definitely recommended, but maybe order something other than the Wiener Schnitzel unless that's all you want to eat ;)

When I was a child, we always went to the Alte Gasthaus Leve in the heart of Münster for dinner on All Saints' Day. Today, I followed in the footsteps of our family tradition and, after visiting my grandfather's grave (Lauheide Forest Cemetery), I went to the Alte Gasthaus Leve for a relaxed meal and a few glasses of the famous Altbier punch. The punch is simply fantastic – not syrupy sweet (the beer has a nice tart taste), and what I really liked: the punch is made with FRESH peaches, not canned fruit. Thumbs up! The food was also rustic, tasty, and generously portioned (Westphalian fare; main course: boiled beef in a light sweet and sour onion sauce with boiled potatoes and mustard pickles, and for dessert, a Westphalian quark dish with cherries and pumpernickel crumbles). The service is friendly, attentive, and quick, and the location is absolutely quaint. The price is reasonable. All in all, a successful culinary stop. If you like hearty food, delicious beer, and a rustic atmosphere, you should definitely stop by here. Full marks! 👍

Truly a beautiful place in Münster! Excellent food, everything tastes really good. Be careful with the portions, which are decidedly generous; the schnitzel is enough for at least one and a half people. Good draft beer. The service is friendly but not warm, and fast. The place is very clean and very large.

What a lovely inn this is! A friendly welcome from the owner herself, a great ambiance, attentive service, and truly classic cuisine. The portions are generous, and the prices reflect the quality. Anyone who visits should follow the menu's recommendations or simply ask the waiter, unless they know what they want. The Pinkus Classic beer is refreshing, somewhat reminiscent of Berliner Weisse without the syrup. We had snails, barrels of pasta, and pasta with chanterelle mushrooms; everything was delicious. We especially liked the salad; the dressing was just like grandma's. 😋

I reserved a table online a year ago. It worked out great. We arrived an hour and a half early and still got a nice table. The hostess and staff were very accommodating. The food – Westphalian specialties like onion meat and the sausage pan – was delicious. You just have to enjoy the ambiance.

A quaint, old restaurant. Woody, heavy, but charming. The service was initially rather unfriendly and harried. However, that calmed down over the course of the evening, and we had service that was not particularly cordial, but nevertheless solid. Since we're not from Münster, I was very excited about the food. They had a large Münsterland menu. I love Sauerbraten, so logically, I had to order an original Rhenish Sauerbraten. No sooner said than done. To be honest, I was disappointed. The meat was tough and hard, and the flavor was below average. The sauce wasn't really reduced and thickened too early, which was a shame. I chose the red cabbage as a side dish. It also had a very watery consistency with a very bland, sour taste. More like a cafeteria dish. The dumpling was unfortunately tasteless and unloving. The knuckle itself, on the other hand, was very good, deliciously crispy and juicy on the inside. There was nothing to complain about here. However, the side dishes were also extremely weak. The mashed potatoes were tasteless. The sauerkraut was just as bland and tasted like canned sauerkraut, only warmed up. All in all, it was still a nice evening, and the beer was good on tap. I recommend it for a beer with a knuckle of pork, but for a nice meal, I'd rather look elsewhere.

We were here as part of a city tour. An inn since 1607 with a lot of traditional flair and interior☺️ Our table was beautifully set and prepared with a welcome from the kitchen👍, our service was very friendly and prompt, and accommodating to our special requests 😎 The food was okay🙄 Soup and ice cream sundae were okay, fried potatoes weren't crispy, there was way too little sauce for my main course, the salad was also uninspiring, my companions' salmon was dry, and the lemon sauce was sweet (??) Maybe I was unlucky today... the place was buzzing, and many of the reviews say the food is good... I can't agree with that today 😏 Pinkus beer was very tasty, though🥹

We don't have much to say about the Gasthaus Leve; we've been warmly welcomed so often and eaten delicious food in a uniquely rustic atmosphere. We enjoy coming back again and again and have never been disappointed. Today's experience sums up the exceptional hospitality. When we tentatively asked for a change to the dish, the waitress beamed at us: "Special requests are always welcome." Where else can you find such hospitality!

Got to say the food was absolutely amazing, I had the pork knuckle and a few beers , definitely I would go back next time I’m visiting.
