Alte Laterne in Monheim am Rhein

Absolutely not recommended! There was a meal for 16 people, unfortunately inedible. The agreement included freshly grilled food, vegetables, and a selection for vegetarians. There were no vegetables, and the "meat" was pre-made patties – warmed up in typical warming containers. The sausages tasted of nothing. The pasta salad was slimy and downright disgusting. (Someone threw up afterward.) Presumably pre-made salad. Also a fruit cocktail "dessert." Clearly canned and quite unappetizing. The biggest outrage, however, is that you have to pay €30 per dish! All we can say here is: Stay away!! The one star awarded is just to publicize it.

Very disappointed. A grilled plate with two mini cevapi (approx. 3cm long) and a very thin, flat meatball, all deep-fried. (NOT PERFECTIVE) Plus a dry skewer of chicken and fries. Ordered drinks weren't brought. Poor service. A simple fries stand. A real shame. Not recommended. SORRY...

We actually found out about this location by chance because we wanted to go out to eat on a Monday and most restaurants are closed on Mondays. What can I say, the food was great!! Everything was freshly prepared, the schnitzels and meat were freshly pounded and everything from the fries to the coleslaw was really homemade. Unfortunately, this is becoming increasingly rare these days. The prices and portions are very good. The only drawback is that there is currently no option to pay by card. If one of us hadn't happened to have money in our wallet, we probably would have driven to the nearest restaurant. And that would have been a shame because the food is really tasty and delicious!

This is probably my worst review for a restaurant. We were guided by the consistently positive reviews and had dinner there. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an old pub and that's what it smells like (old cigarette smoke). The terrace was very neglected. We ordered two non-alcoholic shandies and received two normal shandies with the note: there is little alcohol in them. Then we ordered the food (a burger and some kind of bread with cevapcici). The burger and bread were the same dish: very greasy bread with frozen cevapcici. The only difference: the burger came with a ready-made meat patty and fries (they were ok). The meat didn't taste good at all and was on the verge of being acceptable in terms of taste. We hardly ate any of it. Unfortunately it was also not possible to pay by card because the device was apparently defective. Overall, it was an absolute bad decision to eat there. Too bad!

This is a very nice restaurant with very good Balkan cuisine. Staff is very nice and friendly. The prices are okay for the portion. We always enjoy going there.

Today we spontaneously went to dinner at the Alte Lantern. The service was excellent. Unfortunately, I was served another similar dish to the one I ordered. I also liked this very much. However, I didn't notice the error until very late. When I complained about this to the friendly waitress, the other dish was spontaneously brought to me as well. This was not calculated either. I was very surprised by such great customer service. Conclusion: food top, service top, Admit mistakes and iron them out brilliantly. Thank you for allowing us to be guests. The Old Lantern deserves more than 5 stars... We'll be back

A great place to eat quality and tasty food,

We really like going here because both the food and the friendly staff are impressive.

It was the first time today and it was great. Cevapi with cream. White wine with local plums. I hope to meet again.

Today was the first time, certainly not the last. The food is delicious, the staff is extremely friendly, with good old music hits one can only enjoy. All recommendations!

Leckeres Essen zu vernünftigen Preisen. Einziger Kritikpunkt: Der Palatschinken wird immer unterschiedlich zubereitet (nach 3x Bestellen 3 unterschiedliche Variationen erhalten).

Sehr nettes kleines Restaurant. Es wird kroatische Küche geboten. Die Karte umfaßt nicht viele Gerichte aber was geboten wird ist sehr lecker. Die Portionen sind gut um satt zu werden, auch für gute Esser. Der Service ist schnell und sehr freundlich. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und kommen sicher wieder. Ach was noch wichtig ist. Die Preise liegen auf einem Niveau, das es auch Familien erlaubt mit Kindern dort essen zu gehen. Kurz um preiswert, gut und sehr empfehlenswert.

1. Advent-Mittagsessen. Schön dekorierte Räumlichkeiten und netter Kellner. Der kurze Nachtisch ist auch sehr zu empfehlen.

Diese Alte Laterne kann man wirklich empfehlen. Liegt etwas versteckt, aber dafür stimmt drinnen alles. Die Portionen waren genau so groß wie wir es aus Kroatien gewohnt sind und lecker. Wir haben noch kein Restaurant gefunden, das diese günstigen Preise anbieten kann. Personal sehr nett und gesprächig. Nach dem Essen ☕ oder🥃 gratis,👍. Auch wenn wir von der anderen Rheinseite sind, kommen wir trotzdem wieder.

Für einen Samstag Abend nur sehr wenig besucht. Essen war okay, wäre aber noch ausbaufähig. Aber preislich darauf abgestimmt. Bedienung freundlich und präsent.

Über die Aufmachung der Lokalität lässt sich streiten. Für uns zählt jedoch mehr die Qualität der Gerichte. Diese waren mehr als lecker und die Portionen sehr großzügig. Auch die Preise sind vollkommen in Ordnung! Lasst euch vom Erscheinungsbild nicht täuschen!!! Wir kommen wieder :)
