Alte Dorfmühle Auerbach in Bensheim

If I reserve a table for 2 people, I don't want to sit at a "table" on a stool with other people. Prices are clearly too high for what is on offer and there is also not a large selection of main dishes. No Cola, Fanta or fries. As a guest, I would like to decide for myself and not be patronized. Definitely not coming anymore.

Really a great restaurant. All the dishes were very good, but the service was even more convincing. The waitresses were attentive, quick, flexible and very friendly, even though the restaurant was full. This made you feel comfortable and welcome. The prices are reasonable and the selection really offers something for everyone. Definitely a recommendation!

Das Ambiente ist sehr schön, drinnen wie draußen. Getränke und Service sind top. Essen ist ok, aber die Preise sind recht absurd. Entweder man muss für diese Preise hervorragendes Essen bieten oder - wie früher - einigermaßen normale Preise verlangen. So macht das wenig Sinn, da gibt es bessere Restaurants.

UPDATE 10/2024: Apparently a change of owners/tenants. Sorry, but given the quality (don't get me wrong: the food is tasty and good, but not as particularly good as I would expect at this price) these prices? That doesn't work anymore. Now if I'm mean and compare the prices with the much better competitor a few meters away, then I can no longer understand the pricing with the best will in the world. I hope the operator reads this review and reflects on my comments, because the potential is there! The positive first: Great beer garden and good beer! Unfortunately the food can't keep up. Everything seems a bit like convenience and not very homemade. If that were reflected in the price, then that would be fine, but that's exactly what it doesn't do. Conclusion: I always enjoy a cold beer, but I'd rather go somewhere else to eat.

Never again!!!! Price/performance ratio is not right here!!!! Even 1 star is too much!!!! The food, very long wait, was terrible. The schnitzel was less than 1 cm thick and had more breading than meat. And they charge €20.90 for that. There wasn't even an apology when the complaint was made. It certainly tastes better at a snack truck. There was no cola or refrigerated water, but there were more than 20 types of beer. And you couldn't order ice cream for dessert either. I think this restaurant is overpriced for what it offers.!!!!!!! The service was very unfriendly, only a bit friendlier when collecting the bill, perhaps in the hope of a tip. The toilets also leave a lot to be desired. The changing table announced consisted of a shabby one. A wooden slat was folded out over the toilet and a matted carpet was used as a base. Disgusting!!!🤮🤮🤮 That was our first and last visit!!!!!!!

This restaurant places a lot of emphasis on regionality and sustainability, which you can tell just by looking at the menu. My steak was medium rare, exactly as ordered - great! The atmosphere in the beer garden is inviting and invites you to linger. We will come again.

Ambiance in the garden is really nice, that's why we were here. But the rest is absolutely miserable! We waited 1 hour for the food. Portions are small and quality is questionable, price/performance ratio is right. The service was extremely bad-tempered, my friend only received half of the order and only after asking for it and waiting again for a long time did the other half come. Conclusion: NEVER AGAIN!

Dear staff, whether in the kitchen or in the service, I would like to say very, very high praise to you. This afternoon we, five people, had dinner at the Old Village Mill. Everyone enjoyed the food very much. Whether it was the rump steak, which was cooked to perfection, the beef fillet, which was so tender, and the salad, which was fresh and crunchy, even our vegan got her money's worth. Thank God we had a reservation and it certainly won't be the last time we'll be here. Many thanks to the entire staff who stand behind the concept of sustainability 👍

The restaurant is beautifully situated with a very pleasant outdoor area under old trees; the service is fast, helpful and courteous. We had dinner here with five people and the food was also very good. The fried potatoes and hamburgers were a little too salty for my taste, and the turkey breast on the salad was a little too dry. Everything else - cocktails, schnitzel, eggplant, fresh pasta with mushrooms - was excellent.

Good, tasty and regional food selection. Many types of beer on the menu. The atmosphere outside is very cozy and the service was always nice. We had reserved outside and that was at least highly recommended at peak time. Parking is a bit difficult but with a bit of luck you can always get a free space.

Schönes Gasthaus in historischem Gebäude. Grosszügiger Aussenbereich unter schattenspenden Bäumen. Guter aufmerksamer Service. Auch wenn der Trend zum Vegetarischen unverkennbar ist, könnte das Angebot an Fleischgerichten etwas umfangreicher sein.

We recently had the pleasure of visiting the "Alte Dorfmühle" restaurant in Bensheim-Auerbach and were absolutely thrilled. The ambience alone is worth a visit: the restaurant is located in a charming half-timbered house on Bachgasse, surrounded by idyllic trees. The food was simply excellent. The menu offers a great selection of regional dishes prepared with fresh ingredients. We were particularly impressed by the excellent dessert, which we ordered based on the boss's recommendation. The conditions were extremely friendly and attentive. They always had a smile on their faces and made sure we had a thoroughly successful lunch. The concept of the restaurant is also unique, as it combines the tradition of the Alte Dorfmühle with modern cuisine. All in all, I can only warmly recommend the restaurant “Alte Dorfmühle”. It is definitely a highlight on the Bergstrasse and a place you should definitely visit. I look forward to dining there again soon.

I've wanted to come here for years - now I've done it. The old village mill is probably the oldest and largest mill in the Auerbach district. The first reliable mention of a mill here dates back to 1475. During the Thirty Years' War (1618 to 1648), all Auerbach mills were destroyed, including the village mill. It was not until 1650 that the village mill was rebuilt. In 1788 it was completely demolished and rebuilt by the mill owner at the time, Christan Männel. The appearance today is probably identical to the one back then. Many millers have worked in the village mill since those days. In 1984, Peter van Deun took a liking to the venerable property and brought it back to life. The café and wine bar for the “Alte Dorfmühle” were created with great attention to original details. Anton and Astrid Como ran the rustic restaurant for many years. In spring 2016, a young generation took over the helm and the premises of the Old Village Mill were completely overhauled. The tradition of fresh and honest cuisine using regional ingredients wherever possible has been retained unchanged. A beautiful half-timbered house, a great beer garden, the atmosphere is wonderful. The service is friendly, competent and unobtrusive. The individually mixed drinks are great, but the soup could use more salt. All in all, I'm thrilled. Fine. Again.

Great restaurant with nice attentive service and very tasty food. It's comfortable to sit outside but it also looks very nice inside. We were thrilled. The bread basket at the front, delicious draft beer, bratwursts and vegetable pan were our dishes Everything was perfect here. Thank you. We are already looking forward to the next time!

We've been to the old village mill many times, but the last time we visited the food was noticeably lacking. My cheese spaetzle was a yellow-brown lump. It looked like it had been warmed up in the microwave and carelessly slapped onto the plate. I was very disappointed because I was really looking forward to it. The child's cooked cheese schnitzel, on the other hand, looked very good.

Best beer garden on the beautiful Bergstrasse with super delicious food! Big plus point: open on Mondays!

Very attentive and friendly service, food cooked to perfection and nicely presented. The mill isn't the cheapest place, but it's worth every cent. The dishes are fresh and prepared with know-how. If you're looking for cheap, you're in the wrong place here. I'll be back

Always delicious. Nice staff, great food and overall everything was very uncomplicated. Before you go to the "Aff", which in my opinion is completely overrated, you are in a much better and much cheaper place here.

Very nice beer garden…but high prices

Was here for the first time and really surprised! Superbly prepared old mill. Interior fittings match the whole ambience and are cuddly. The beer garden is well prepared and divided up (different levels, seating under the tree, covered seating) Regional dishes and groceries. Great types of beer. Very friendly service staff and bosses, we recognized them through the press. We definitely have to go back, even if it's about 51 km from us.

I always enjoy going to the Alte Dorfmühle. Up to now I have always eaten a pan of sheep's cheese; tasty and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, this framework was completely broken with the introduction of a new card worth over 20 euros. I can get these baked sheep's cheese almost everywhere (especially almost next door) for 9 to 14 euros! I've never experienced it more expensive. The Old Village Mill therefore has a very good but also very expensive one regional cuisine.

Very quaint, cozy local - child-friendly! Very tasty food, especially good that there are no fries and cola, but delicious fried triplet potatoes and homemade lemonade! There were even special “visitors” on the house wall: a stag beetle!!!

Schnitzels were great, really tasty. The "roasted potatoes" were fried, very greasy jacket potatoes - absolutely inedible. The cream sauce wasn't particularly good either. The lemonade tasted like if you bought strawberry syrup and only added 1/5 of the necessary syrup to the water - very watery and not tasty. The waitresses were very friendly. Especially for the price, very little and not recommended, we were still hungry after the visit. Won't be coming back either.

I'm giving a 2-part rating here today: Generally 4*, unfortunately only 3* for us. Why? Basically, the location offers more than what we had. There were 10 of us at the long counter with thick wooden beams in between. This made communication from left to right or across largely impossible. Oh, the prices are a bit too high. As I said: basically good, but with room for improvement.

We reserved a table for 4 there for my mother's 83rd birthday. When we looked at the menu we were disappointed. 4 main courses with meat, several starters. None of us found anything. We asked for fish, it wasn't available, there were no fries, no pork loin or other fine dishes. After we got 10 people with 4 children at the next table it was so loud that we paid for our drinks and left. Then we go to blue monkey, good decision and everyone was happy.

Very nice atmosphere and ambience. The cheese spaetzle were very tasty, but the portion could have been a bit more generous. The salad or dressing, on the other hand, was terrible and just bland. You just had greens in your mouth, no taste at all. You can do better. The prices are pretty steep for all of this.

Very nice beer garden! We were there on April 30, 2024. The food was very tasty. I particularly liked the wild garlic soup, simply delicious. If you drink water with meals, only use the house water. It's outstanding.

Recently discovered again! The food was delicious, the service was super attentive and we always tried to make something possible, even if it was full and you missed the reservation. Rustically furnished inside, some with porcelain jugs as lamps & chairs and tables from grandma's salon. Today for the first time in the beer garden, also very cozy right under the trees. Definitely recommended!

A restaurant with a small, regional and seasonal menu. The ambience is very strange, but in a positive sense. It's homely furnished (with games and books), but still the service was very professional, quick and knowledgeable about the dishes. Vegan was absolutely no problem and there wasn't any yoghurt or anything like that by accident. I am very impressed with this restaurant and will definitely go there again.

Es war der 1. Sommertag im April , so konnten wir den Biergarten geniessen. Service war nett und zuvorkommend. Getränke (Apfelsaft/Weinschorle) fein und ausgewogen. Die Basis-Qualität (alles frisch aus der Region) der Speisen prima - nur (leider,leider) bei der Zubereitung fehlte es an handwerklicher Bemühung sowie etwas Pep und Liebe zum Kochen ... Das Schnitzel (vier Variationen auf der Karte von 5 Fleischgerichten) war von der Panade her zu fest, nicht locker und viel zu dunkel gebraten, die Bratkartoffeln gerade n der Grenze zu "verbrannt". Wie schade !!! Alles in Allem hatten wir uns Odenwälder Genuss erwartet und waren enttäuscht. Wir werden weiter suchen nach einem Gasthof/Restaurant, welches unseren Sonntagsausflug von Frankfurt aus gefällt.

Never again... Food was good but no cola or sweet drinks because no drinks with artificial ingredients are supported, not even fries. I had to eat my Jägerschnitzel with corner potatoes, I can also do that at home and the salad was extra too so the fact that I paid 28.60 euros for my Jägerschnitzel is unrelated, sorry

A nice restaurant with delicious food. The homemade lemonade is always a treat and the menu changes seasonally. A super nice place to eat, drink and relax. That's exactly why I've been there several times with friends and family. Absolutely recommended in Auerbach

The food here is exceptional! We ordered the bratwurst, spaetzle, beefsteak and schnitzel. Each was easily the best we’ve had in Germany. The carmelized onions and roasted vegetables were seasoned and cooked to perfection. The service was fast and friendly. This is a fantastic restaurant, 5 stars is an understatement.

The place was very busy, but they offered us 2 cinema seats, which was perfect for us. It matched our mood and personality and we had a lovely glass of wine and slice of cake. The waitress was lovely to us and it was a great experience x

Small, expensive card. Fresh, regional products are great, but unfortunately there is a problem with the preparation: the schnitzel was dripping with oil, as were the roasted potatoes. The whole thing for well over €20 (without the side salad, which costs extra). We were disappointed, the fatty food didn't do us any good either. The 3 points go exclusively to the ambience and the nice service.

Wir haben mit ca. 20 Personen unsere Firmenweihnachtsfeier mit leckerem Essen dort ausklingen lassen. Etwas abseits waren wir in einem gemütlichen urigen Nebenraum untergebracht. Sehr positiv war, dass wir alle Gerichte für 20 Personen a la carte bestellen konnten. Herzlichen Dank für die gute Bewirtung. Wir kommen wieder!

Sehr gemütliches Restaurant mit leckerem Essen! Auch die vorab Platz- und Essensbuchung funktioniert sehr gut. Wir hätten sonst auch keinen freien Platz gefunden...

Das Essen ist gut und der Service freundlich. Innen wie Aussen kann man schön sitzen und ein oder zwei nette Stunden verbringen. Einzig das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis stimmt nicht ganz. 5,20-5,80 für 0,5l Bier und 15-16 Euro für nen Teller Käsespätzle ist einfach zuviel. Da ist selbst die Konkurrenz um die Ecke moderater.

Sehr gut gegessen, auch das vegetarische und vegane Angebot ist mehr als Alibi. Aufmerksamer Service. Kommen gerne wieder.

Leider war gegen 19.30 Uhr das Gulasch aus und musste mich Um entscheiden😩, was ich nicht verstehen kann kurz nach Öffnungszeiten der Gaststätte. Essen war von der ganzen Familie ohne Geschmack und lieblos. Preise: total überteuert Habe schon besser gegessen bei einer .....

Sehr beliebtes traditionelles uriges Restaurant mit Gartenwirtschaft. Personal absolut freundlich, die Speisen sind top. Der Gast entdeckt immer wieder was Neues. Reservierung empfohlen.
