Ich kann nicht das ganze Restaurant bewerten. Der Außenbereich ist sehr schön. Leider waren die Käsespätzle nicht annähernd wie erwartet. Der Beilagensalat dagegen ist sehr gut. Von einer Nachbesserung haben wir abgesehen, da es sich nicht um eine kleine Korrektur gehandelt hätte.

Das Essen und die Getränke sind recht teuer. Mit meiner Radgruppe war ich hier. Viele waren enttäuscht.

Super leckeres Essen und toller Service

Wir haben im Garten unter den Bäumen gesessen und uns das leckere Essen schmecken lassen.

Das Essen in der Alten Dorfmühle Auerbach war sehr lecker zubereitet und geschmacklich überzeugend. Auch das Personal war durchweg freundlich und aufmerksam. Leider gab es einige Punkte, die den Gesamteindruck getrübt haben: Wir hatten einen Tisch reserviert und wurden zunächst an einen schönen Platz geführt. Nachdem die Getränke bereits serviert waren und wir auf das Essen warteten, wurden wir jedoch gebeten, den Tisch zu wechseln. Als Begründung wurde genannt, dass man sich bei der Reservierung vertan hätte. Der Ersatzplatz war leider deutlich weniger attraktiv als der ursprünglich zugewiesene Tisch. Bei einem reservierten Tisch sollte so etwas aus meiner Sicht nicht passieren – man fühlt sich als Gast dadurch schnell wie ein Gast zweiter Klasse. Zudem waren bei zwei identischen Gerichten die Fleischportionen sehr unterschiedlich groß. Eine derartige Abweichung ist bei gleichen Bestellungen nicht akzeptabel und hinterlässt einen unnötig negativen Eindruck. Schade, denn Küche und Service haben eigentlich überzeugt. Mit mehr Sorgfalt bei der Organisation und einer gleichmäßigeren Portionierung könnte das Erlebnis deutlich besser sein. Leider überwiegt so der Eindruck der Massenabfertigung und das Gefühl, das Stammkunden bevorzugt werden. Aus diesem Grund wird es keinen weiteren Besuch von uns in diesem Gasthof geben, aber das ist für die Inhaber sehr wahrscheinlich egal, denn der Laden läuft.....

Das Essen ist super lecker. Der Kartoffelsalat ei Gedicht. Pommes fehlen nicht. Die Portion war echt gross. Super schön. Freundlicher Service

Toller Biergarten und freundliches Personal aber die Preis - Leistung beim Essen passt leider nicht.

Sehr schöner Sitzbereich im Freien, gut besucht. Leider waren wir von den Bratwürsten enttäuscht, Kochkäse zu Kochkäse, Bratwurst ist Bratwurst. Mir hätte eine normale Bratwurst besser geschmeckt, und dann diese Megapreise, nein danke. Das Brot war nicht lecker, also müssen wir nicht wieder kommen.

Die alte Dorfmühle liegt direkt an der Straße. Somit ist ein gewisser Geräuschpegel, sofern man draußen sitzt, gegeben. Man kann sich aber noch gut unterhalten. Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam und die Essen reichlich und gut. Ich hatte die Schnitzel mit Kochkäse und meine Begleitung etwas Vegetarisches. Beides sehr lecker. Einzig mein Kochkäse war kalt und in einer Schale. Hier bin ich von einer warmen Sauce ausgegangen bzw. hätte es mir so gewünscht.

Sehr schöner Biergarten, innen ist es auch sehr schön. Das Essen und auch die Bedienungen sind immer sehr freundlich.

Gute Karte, nicht zu groß, daher alles frisch, aber doch genug Auswahl, sowohl vegetarisch als auch Fleisch. Bedienungen alle sehr nett.

Ich bin regelmäßig zum Essen mit Freunden hier. Es gab noch nie einen Qualitätsabfall. Das Essen ist immer super lecker und es gibt große Portionen. Die Montaskarte ist immer sehr kreativ gestaltet. Man kann hier alles essen und wir nicht enttäuscht. Der Service ist immer sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Sehr empfehlenswert im Sommer ist die schöne Sommerterasse unter den Kastanien.

Super Qualität beim Essen und die Karte hat wirklich für Jeden was. Angemessene Preise und guter und netter Service. Passt! Danke!

Wir hatten einen Tisch für 2 Personen am Sonntag für 18 Uhr reserviert. Die Reservierung verlief problemlos. Das Lokal war um diese Uhrzeit gut besucht und wir waren froh vorher reserviert zuhaben. Zu dem Lokal gehört auch ein Biergarten. Es gibt in diesem Lokal keinerlei Softdrinks. Was aber nicht weiter tragisch ist. Das Essen war lecker und die Portion groß. Das Preis Leistungsverhältnis stimmt. Das Personal war freundlich.

Wir waren bei unserem Erstbesuch begeistert. Toller Standort und Biergarten. Service ist mit einem kleinen Missverständnis souverän umgegangen. Angebot mit regionalem Schwerpunkt und hervorragende Qualität. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Ein paar Schritte südlich vom Fürstenlager, in der Bachgasse, wo am Wochenende halb Hessen Richtung Staatspark pilgert, steht sie: die Alte Dorfmühle. Ein Haus mit Geschichte und mit genau der Portion Bodenständigkeit, die man sich von einer Dorfmühle erhofft. Im Sommer öffnet sich hier ein großzügiger Biergarten zur Bachgasse hin. Trotz 30er-Zone geht’s am Wochenende durchaus lebhaft zu – Touristen, Spaziergänger vom Fürstenlager, ein bisschen südhessisches Flanieren eben. Im Winter zieht es nach innen. Und „urig“ ist hier keine Floskel. Dunkles Holz, markanter Barbereich, eine rustikale Empore, alte Mauern – hier knarzt nichts geschniegelt, hier knarzt es ehrlich. Wir saßen im Wintergarten. Schön gestaltet, allerdings akustisch eher „Stammtisch mit Hall“. Wer Ruhe sucht, sollte vielleicht einen Platz im Hauptraum anfragen. Service – flink wie der Mühlenbach Obwohl das Haus gut gefüllt war, kam der Service zügig in Gang. Getränke? Schnell da. Vorspeisen und Salate? Ohne lange Wartezeit auf dem Tisch. So muss das sein. Die Küche – klassisch, kräftig, ohne Schnörkel Hier gibt es deutsche, bürgerliche Küche. Kein Schäumchen, kein Pipetten-Ballett – sondern Teller, die wissen, was sie sind. Ein Schnitzel ohne Beilage für rund 23 Euro liegt preislich im Wirtshaus-Durchschnitt, bleibt im Rahmen. Und geschmacklich? Saftig, ordentlich paniert, traditionell. Genau das, was man erwartet. Die Gerichte sind schön angerichtet, ohne sich zu verbiegen. Die Portionen sind großzügig – hungrig geht hier keiner heim. „Des langt“, würde man sagen. Die Desertkarte ist überschaubar – da könnte man noch etwas nachlegen. Der Kaffee hingegen verdient ein Lob: kräftig, aromatisch, ein würdiger Abschluss. Hier zahlt man nicht für Instagram-Inszenierung, sondern für solide Küche in traditionsreicher Atmosphäre. Ein Ort für Familienfeiern, für ein Abendessen mit Freunden oder für den klassischen „Mir-gehe-noch-emo-esse“-Abend zu zweit. Die Alte Dorfmühle ist kein kulinarischer Revolutionär – sie ist ein Bewahrer. Ein Stück Auerbacher Geschichte mit ehrlicher Küche, stimmigem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis.

Wir haben verschiedene Gerichte bestellt und jedes war super lecker. Wir werden auf jeden Fall noch einmal dort essen gehen.

Einfach die beste Kombi: Essen war super lecker und dazu noch gesund, Bedienung war mega freundlich und Ambiente hat gestimmt. Absolute Empfehlung von mir!

Wir waren mit 30 Leuten zur Weihnachtsfeier in der Dorfmühle. Es war sehr voll. Klar! Die Bedienung hatte alles in Griff. Sehr professionell! Halt ein bisschen gestresst, aber okay. Die Suppe (Flädlesuppe) habe ich nicht vertragen. Es waren wohl viele Geschmacksverstärker darin und sie war sehr salzig. Die Flädle waren aufgeweicht, als hätten sie zwei Stunden in der Brühe verbracht. Der Salat war gut. Bei der Crème brûlée war sehr flüssig und der Zucker verbrannt und dadurch bitter. Die Portion der Crème war winzig für den Preis. Das war nix.

Schöne Ambiente aber im Menü wenig Auswahl und Geschmack durchschnittlich.

Ich bin heute Abend ohne Reservierung hier angekommen. Das Restaurant war ausgebucht, aber der nette Gastgeber hat trotzdem noch einen Platz für mich gefunden. Das Essen war fantastisch. Der Service war erstklassig (10/10). Ich hatte einen wunderschönen Abend.

The four of us ate here this evening. We enjoyed it very much, especially the wide selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. You could also order the cappuccino with alternative milk. The food was delicious, the service very friendly and attentive – it was a lovely evening!

Very good food, a new seasonal menu every month. In September, there was a delicious mushroom risotto, and in October, one with pumpkin and sage. A beautiful courtyard and cozy parlor; the host at the bar is a bit wooden, but that's probably part of the experience. Unfortunately, charging extra for a glass of tap water with wine is typically German and quite petty. A shame, really...

We ate there on Sunday, September 28, 2025. The food was delicious. The service was okay. Considering we were a small group, too many things were forgotten. Or part of our order wasn't included. At that point, there were no other guests sitting in the room where we were taken. The staff was very friendly and did their best, but seemed a bit overwhelmed when other restaurant guests arrived. I would definitely recommend the food. It was very tasty, and some of the portions were so large that two could have eaten them. It's also a very nice old restaurant. Since parking is very difficult to find, you have to walk quite a distance to eat there. Nevertheless, I would recommend the restaurant because it's all about the food, ambiance, and service. Highly recommended. We stopped by for Sunday lunch and luckily got a table. The whole team was extremely friendly, and the place was very quaint and cozy. The price/performance ratio was excellent. We'd be happy to come back.

"Close Encounter of the Third Kind" The hospitality of the waitress with the lip piercing was abysmal: she rolled her eyes when we arrived with our children after a hike and wanted to sit outside at a shady table, and she didn't accommodate us in any way or even couldn't/wouldn't properly offer us a suitable table. The fact that an umbrella at another reserved table under a tree (a shady spot) made no sense and was even more than rude to us for placing this umbrella at our table, and she rolled her eyes several times, was, besides the overpriced food, the height of the situation – something we would have overlooked if the service hadn't been so abysmal. We've eaten at the "Alte Dorfmühle" several times, and we will NOT repeat it!

Friendly service, delicious food, a unique ambiance, and then a digestive stroll to the nearby Fürstenlager...and back again for coffee and cream puffs...

The cuisine is down-to-earth, locally sourced and hearty. Sometimes I wish there was more variety and more refinement. The beer garden is great, the interior is rustic, and the staff is very friendly.

Great atmosphere. Unfortunately, it's completely overpriced. Two simple breaded schnitzels with a side dish for €21?! Pasta for €23 is also unacceptable in my opinion!

I ordered a cooked cheese with my beer and was happy with it. Some of my fellow diners wanted fries with their meal and some Cokes...both of which are generally unavailable. You have to know beforehand...but who reads the menu before ordering Cokes and fries?

We ate from the small menu yesterday, including schnitzel, which unfortunately turned out to be a frozen schnitzel! And at a hefty price... For two people, two schnitzels (one with cooked cheese, one with mushrooms), and two drinks, it came to over €60. Now I understand why the beer garden only had one table occupied!

The food at the Dorfmühle is actually reliably good. That's exactly why I went there today. But today I was really disappointed. Cheese spaetzle without cheese, at least it tasted more like cream than cheese, and almost no strings came up with a fork. Cheese taste? Niente. The side salad had a delicious dressing, but consisted only of lettuce and tomatoes. No onions, no carrots, no variety. Too bad. If this is the new standard, then my motivation to eat there will dwindle. I really hope things get better.

We visited the old village mill for the first time on Saturday and will definitely be back. The food was fresh, home-cooked, and delicious. You could tell they really put a lot of craftsmanship into it, and home-cooked food tastes best. We had the vegetarian burgers, the vegan red lentil meatballs, the hearty vegetable platter, and a schnitzel. The portions were very generous, and the value for money was good. Please don't change anything, keep it up.

We visited on Sunday lunchtime shortly after opening at 12 p.m. The welcome was friendly, and even without a reservation, we easily got a table for two. The restaurant was busy but not overcrowded, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Our choices were a cooked cheese schnitzel and the lentil burger. The menu is visually appealing, but the design is a bit confusing. Drinks and food were served promptly. Unfortunately, the dishes weren't convincing in terms of taste. The homemade cooked cheese was noticeably weak and seemed unbalanced—especially compared to other regional versions. The schnitzel served with it contained bits of cartilage, was barely pounded, and not expertly prepared. The lentil burger was also disappointing: The vegetables were watery, the patty tasteless, and the entire burger was barely edible. Furthermore, the burger was served with almost no sauce, which made it seem dry. The only sauce used was also found on the potatoes – a disjointed mix of ketchup, mayonnaise, and a touch of mustard. This dual use seemed uninspired, almost like a copy-paste Instagram burger, lacking any real culinary creativity. The only positive aspect was the melted cheddar cheese that tried to hold the patty together. The kitchen promotes sustainability and the avoidance of flavor enhancers. This approach is generally commendable, but it shouldn't result in dishes that seem unbalanced and underseasoned. Especially in combination with the prices charged, this creates a disparity between expectations and culinary results. The service also left a mixed impression. While our server was polite during our direct interaction, she repeatedly made derogatory comments about colleagues, even in the presence of guests. Furthermore, a certain arrogance was conveyed, which seemed inappropriate given the quality of the food and left an overall unprofessional impression. The restaurant's atmospheric design, which is rustic and inviting, deserves special mention. However, one gets the impression that the restaurant's image and presentation carry more weight than its culinary substance. Our conclusion: The Alte Dorfmühle scores highly with its ambiance and sustainable concept, but falls short of expectations in terms of execution and taste. We don't think the value for money is right, which is why we will refrain from returning.

After calling, we were finally able to get a spot on the terrace despite it being busy on Friday evening. We had a delicious meal, and the service was English-speaking, helpful, and friendly. We'll definitely be back if we're ever in the area again!

Very nice and delicious. The schnitzels were freshly baked, you can taste it right away. The salad was very fresh, and the wine was delicious, too. Very close to the Fürstenlager, which is also beautiful and spacious. Highly recommended 😀

Nice rustic restaurant with good food

Everything was wonderful. Although I didn't have a reservation, I was warmly welcomed. My meal was delicious, served with a salad and a glass of super velvety wine. For the ambiance, I would recommend some soft music... That would make you feel 100% more comfortable!

The only thing we liked here is the ambiance. It's as nice as it always was. The seating inside and in the beer garden are very pleasant. Unfortunately, the prices are now outrageously high, almost absurd. A Caesar salad that doesn't deserve its name (sour yogurt dressing) costs €20.90. If you want turkey breast with it, it's €22.90. All the dishes on the menu are overpriced. Unfortunately, the employee who served us was taciturn and not very friendly. "What?" isn't a good question for me. I won't be eating here again.

Very good, homemade food. This means there are no soft drinks like spirits, cola, etc. However, there are lemonades that change regularly. A lovely beer garden with plenty of indoor seating when it rains. The restrooms are clean.

Very tasty food and friendly service

The potatoes were completely burnt—I don't mean badly burnt, no, burnt. Not a word of apology or anything like that. The salad wasn't particularly fresh, and the portions overall weren't filling, despite the very high price. Just over 10 years ago, it was our favorite restaurant; we went there often, even for larger celebrations, but unfortunately, it's become a restaurant we no longer enjoy going to. Not to mention the ignominious exclusion of healthy people a few years ago, simply because they weren't vaccinated.

Unfortunately, the price is overpriced. It doesn't reflect the product. €44 for a 250g rump steak is a bit extortionate, despite the quality. Sausage salad €17. This is a comparison.

Great food, cozy outdoor atmosphere, friendly, but unfortunately inattentive staff. Empty drink glasses were apparently left for more than 15 minutes without us being asked if we wanted a new one. The waitresses walked past our table quite often during this time. Otherwise, it was really very nice. The schnitzels are great! :) There are no soft drinks like Coca-Cola, as the restaurant wants to avoid artificial additives. Unfortunately, there are too few affordable alternatives. Instead, there are plenty of beers, wines, etc. :) The restaurant is definitely worth a visit, but different – whether that's good or bad, everyone has to decide for themselves.

We went there for lunch with the family on my birthday and really enjoyed it. Great atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent service. We'd love to come back and highly recommend the restaurant.

I can't confirm the 5-star rating. A feta cheese for €19.70 or an arugula salad with cherry tomatoes and Parmesan without any other ingredients, also for €19.70, is completely out of proportion. We used to go there often, even after hiking or with our elderly mother. The price-performance ratio was excellent. The ambiance is fantastic, but we don't go there for dinner anymore. We don't have that much money to spend on such "normal" food that requires little effort and is also inexpensive to buy. It's a shame...

Great service and very tasty food.

We always enjoy going there. The food is always delicious, and the service is very friendly. However, the prices have risen considerably, which seems only partially logical to me. A small quiche with salad costs around €20, as does a cooked cheese schnitzel. We'll still be back, but prices could be a bit more normal in some places.

For the quality of the food, I absolutely cannot understand the prices quoted. Cheese spaetzle 20€, the spaetzle is not homemade and the processed cheese is tasteless/cheap. The farmer's bread gets stuck in your throat, neither crispy nor fluffy. It's been a long time since I've had such a mediocre meal for such a price (€85/2 people). The beautiful atmosphere doesn't take anything away from it either. There's the best food two streets away and it's a little cheaper. Dorfmühle definitely no longer!

We reserved a table for last night in the beautiful garden. We received a very friendly welcome and were assigned a lovely table under a shady tree. We really enjoyed the meal, and we can't understand the woman who wrote a review complaining about the overpriced food. We found the prices reasonable for the delicious food and the wonderful ambiance...we'd be happy to come back. The woman who mistakenly wrote about the empty tables in a previous review is simply wrong, as all the free tables are reserved...not by a sign on the table, but by a small plate with the reservation written on it.

My girlfriend and I visited the Alte Dorfmühle for the first time yesterday. We were surprised that, despite the pleasant temperatures, the beer garden was almost empty around 6:00 p.m. After receiving the menu, we could understand why... A very nicely designed menu with not too many dishes, but unfortunately very expensive! €21.90 for bratwurst with cooked cheese and fried potatoes is a hefty price, even if the meat comes from a local butcher. The same goes for two small pork schnitzels (see photos). The plate was heavy on potatoes, with no green garnish or side salad. The sausages tasted good, but for all the love of organic food, they were too expensive! I liken it to an organic farm that sells homemade organic rolls and organic bratwurst for €5.00 to go. Buying in bulk won't cost the restaurant €2.00 (if that) each. I can understand the decline of restaurants these days, because with these prices, retirees can't afford to eat that often if they value quality. Families with children have to be in the upper income bracket.

A one-hour break from city life and you're a different person. This place is simply indescribably beautiful... A very tasty sauerbraten, unfortunately only 4 stars... The service was incredibly friendly and very pleasant.

We visited today - a very quiet Monday late afternoon, sat on a table in the nearly empty beergarten. I want to point out that we sat on a table that wasn’t reserved. Then we got asked immediately if we had reserved and that people may come that have reserved. When we asked if they have cakes we got a very rude reply saying „we have what’s written on the menu“. I have never experienced such an unwelcoming attitude towards customers. I can’t give a feedback on the food as we decided to eat elsewhere. We didn’t feel welcome and therefore left. Super unprofessional!!!!

Kind of disappointing. The setting is lovely. Most waiters are nice. But the Oberkellner (wearing purple shirt) was not polite and came across arrogant (not to the point of being insulting of course but the way he talked was not service oriented). We didn't feel welcome there and won't come again. Regarding the food, it is just OKish and has no soul in it. Some other reviewers complained that the restaurant is using now some prepared food instead of cooking themselves (Schnitzel, potato salad, etc). I felt the same to be honest. Maybe the supplied food they receive is of premium quality but it's definitely not the same as cooked on site and I can tell the difference. It's actually ridiculous if you think since it's a local German restaurant in a German village, not somewhere in Japan or Australia, kind of expected that they can prepare a Schnitzel themselves... Food therefore not worth the prices in my opinion. Btw. I have been here a few years ago, the food was definitely better and I didn't have the same feeling.

A super nice, cozy restaurant with a very special ambience, the service was friendly and quick, the food was super tasty, I can highly recommend the Kochkäs Schnitzel here, I will definitely come back.

The rump steak with vegetables was excellent, and the red lentil meatball was also excellent. The lamb chops with beans, pea pods and green asparagus were The taste is very good, but a hungry person cannot be full with 3 small lamb chops and some vegetables. We found 31.20 euros a bit too expensive for this. One more cutlet and the delicious potatoes from the rump steak would have clearly improved the dish.

Ate there today, 3 lamb chops with far too firm vegetables, completely unseasoned vegetables. Neither 1 potato or a side dish for over 33 euros. Mini menu, and 1 fish dish and that was also out. Shouldn't happen with such a small menu. Were very disappointed.

The schnitzels look like they came from the freezer, the "roasted potatoes" are peeled mini potatoes tossed in oil and served with a very small pot of mushroom cream sauce in which there were only tiny pieces of mushrooms for 23 euros. Plus a carafe of tap water for 4.90. Loving is different!

War mal sehr gut und empfehlenswert die Dorfmühle. Uns schien es nun, als wären die Schnitzel aufgrund der Form, Panade etc. vorpanierte billige Fertigware aus dem Prospekt des hiesigen Frische-Lieferanten gewesen. Kartoffelsalat war aus dem Eimer, das merkt man sehr wohl, kann uns niemand erzählen, dass der selbstgemacht war. Die restlichen Gerichte waren auch nicht mehr das, was sie einmal waren. Wir bezahlen gerne gestiegene Preise, nicht aber für so offensichtlich nur aufgehübschte und einfache Convenience-Essen. Machen ja einige inzwischen und nennen das regionale Ausflugs-Küche. Reicht wohl durchaus für die Ausflügler. Kann man essen, brauchen wir aber gar nicht liebe neue Geschäftsführung.

Beautiful, traditional location. Quaint and absolutely fitting. Very large selection, including vegetarian dishes. Great! Another little insider tip... highly recommended... but... reservations are an absolute must, otherwise there's little chance of getting a free spot.
