A truly authentic fish restaurant on the Elbe River. It was only moderately busy on a Sunday evening—and that was in August. The waiters had time for a few words, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was just right for a fish restaurant. Food prices were reasonable, beer was very expensive, and the bottle of wine was downright cheap. Let's go

We came to dinner with our little dog, received a very friendly welcome at the entrance and were shown to our table. Finally, a waitress who serves you beer with the glass logo! Our dog was immediately given a giant bowl of water. I had pan-fried fish and my wife had vitello tonnato. It was delicious and the dish was very attractively prepared! All in all, this restaurant is highly recommended!

We ate there on Thursday evening. The restaurant is quite expensive. It was my son's birthday, and we wanted to eat some nice fish. Two pan-fried fish dishes. The food arrived promptly after ordering. The fried potatoes weren't crispy. The fish was coated in a thick layer of egg, tasting like scrambled eggs. The fish was soft and had no flavor. We also couldn't tell that we had different pieces of fish. I told the waitress, but no one cared. We were very disappointed. We won't be visiting this restaurant again.

Particularly delicious, we were there at lunchtime with our baby and were served very friendly.

11/08/2025 One of the few restaurants in Hamburg serving traditional cuisine, primarily seafood, open for dinner on Sundays. A varied menu offers dishes such as eel soup (Aalsuppe), Pannfisch (a sort of fish and ships), and Finkewerden-style sole (which they also serve with shrimp instead of bacon). For those who don't like fish, a good alternative is their excellent veal Wiener Schnitzel. A very beautiful place, it almost feels like being on a boat, with professional service and excellent Ratsherrn beers (especially the red one). Recommended!!

It was a wonderful birthday evening in perfect summer weather on the terrace of the Alt Helgoländer Fischerstube, located at the fish market, overlooking the harbor. Once again, we enjoyed the delicious food we've always enjoyed over the years, along with the extremely friendly and attentive service team. We founded our Lions Club Hamburg - Harbor (now Hamburg - St. Pauli) here 30 years ago. At the fish market in the Alt Helgoländer Fischerstube, we enjoyed a delicious meal with sailor's or Hamburg LABSKAUS (sausages with two fried eggs, gherkins, beets, and Bismarck herring), Hamburg PANNFISCH (fried fish fillets in an egg shell on fried potatoes with bacon and mustard sauce), and crispy prawns with a salad bouquet and chili sauce. We received a very friendly welcome and very attentive service; everything was highly recommended; we'll be back.

Prices are average for large European cities, the dishes are refined, featuring classic Hamburg cuisine, some with a twist, and the staff is friendly and helpful. A quiet place, off the beaten path, with soft lighting. Perfect for those seeking a unique and special place.

The restaurant is simply fantastic! The ambiance is beautiful, the decor is classically chic with a rustic touch. The staff are very friendly and competent; always on the ball, but never intrusive – you just have to feel at home! The food was world-class; we all had different dishes, and it was all delicious. I've rarely eaten fish so well prepared. The dessert was divine – the chocolate mousse is highly recommended. If you want to eat good fish in Hamburg, you can't miss this restaurant. If I could, I would give it ten stars! The price-performance ratio is absolutely fine, as high-quality products are prepared with first-class care.

We had Labskaus and schnitzel. Both were truly delicious. The staff was extremely friendly! We'd love to go back next time we're in Hamburg!

The fish and shrimp were far too firm and poorly prepared. No seasoning at all, not even salt or pepper. We were there with over 15 people, and no one enjoyed the fish or shrimp. The portions were also really meager for the price.

Wir hatten ein typisch Hamburger Fischrestaurant gesucht und waren auf die „Althelgoländer Fischerstube“ über TripAdvisor aufgrund der sehr guten Bewertungen gestoßen. Das was wir dann dort erleben durften war dann sogar mehr wert als gutes Essen und man kann es getrost unter „Erlebnisgastronomie“ einordnen. Der Service war erstklassig; super freundlich mit nicht übertriebener Etikette und vor allem mit gutem, norddeutschen Charme und schlagfertigem, erfrischendem Humor. Das Ambiente so wie man es sich für eine Fischerstube vorstellt. Last not least das Essen war ein Traum; ob angefangen vom Vorspeisenteller, den wir uns zu viert teilen konnten, über Scholle, Matjes oder Butterfisch zum Hauptgang bis zum Dessert war alles Spitzenklasse und reichhaltig. (Und das zu wirklich angemessen Preisen) Es fiel uns fast schwer nach einem abschließenden Helbing Kümmel - nicht wegen des Alkohols😂 - wieder aufzubrechen. Aber: wir kommen bestimmt wieder! Wer hier nicht war hat etwas Besonderes in Hamburg versäumt…

Grosse déception ! J’ai choisi l’assiette de poissons (4 différentes sortes de poissons) à 40€. Les poissons ne donnaient pas l’impression d’être frais et ils étaient tous bien trop cuits. Des haricots verts accompagnaient le tout : ils étaient mous et semblaient sortir d’une boîte de conserve. Le Serive était par contre très agréable.

Everything was perfect! The service is friendly, making you feel like you're staying with friends! At the same time, you receive impeccable advice; they're simply professionals when it comes to fish, both in the kitchen and in the service! We ate the best pan-fried fish there! The seating is excellent both on the terrace and inside (decorated with a lovely nautical theme). My birthday was celebrated in a charming way, and they even arranged a sparkler for my dessert (rhubarb mousse, simply delicious!)! Thanks to the entire team for the wonderful evening! I was looking for a good restaurant that served fish in Hamburg, and I found this one. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. I ordered a seasonal dish with steamed asparagus and pan-grilled salmon. The sauce that came with the dish was truly delicious; I ate a few extra pieces of bread to finish the sauce 😁 For dessert, I had bread pudding; it was also very good with vanilla cream and ice cream. The service was fast, the server was very kind, and I had a wonderful dinner. Thank you for your cuisine and your hospitality.

Well-cooked coastal cuisine is served in a nautical-inspired, slightly rustic, cozy ambiance. The service is discreet, prompt, and well-trained. The prices are upscale, but not excessive. You'll be happy to return again and again.

Die Bilder und die Lage haben uns überzeugt, dass uns die etwas höheren Preise nicht abschrecken. Vor Ort haben wir dann festgestellt, dass die Bilder im Internet nicht zuviel versprochen haben. Das gesamte Lokal ist schön und stimmungsvoll eingerichtet, manches Detail ist auch sehr interessant. Uns hat ein freundlicher Kellner begrüßt und auch durch den Abend begleitet. Bis auf ein Mitglied unserer kleinen Gruppe hatten wir alle Fisch. Sowohl die Suppen zur Vorspeise als auch die unterschiedlichen Hauptgerichte waren sehr lecker. Auch das Schnitzel hat überzeugt. Preislich ist für unsere Wohnregion das Niveau etwas höher, aber die Qualität, der Service und die Portionen haben diese vollkommen gerechtfertigt.

El menú para mí fue sopa de espárragos con salmón, filete de perca salteado con frijoles blancos y pimientos, un local pils y algunos aperitivos como aperitivo. La sopa estuvo espectacular y la principal también deliciosa. El servicio era clásico, informativo y bueno - humorado. Precio muy bueno para la muy alta calidad. ¡Muy recomendable!

Delicious food, very friendly service, not cheap but good value for money.

Hamburg without fish... ...is simply not possible! So we started looking for a fish restaurant and found the Alt Helgoländer Fischerstube online. The pictures and the location convinced us that the slightly higher prices wouldn't put us off. When we got there, we realized that the online pictures hadn't overestimated the quality. The entire restaurant is beautifully and atmospherically decorated, with some of the details being very interesting. A friendly waiter greeted us and accompanied us throughout the evening. With the exception of one member of our small group, we all had fish. Both the soup starters and the various main courses were very tasty. The schnitzel was also impressive. The prices are a bit higher for our area, but the quality, service, and portions fully justified them.

In any case, the food was simply amazing, the staff were attentive to our needs, very accommodating (in France, I'd say très attentif), and the wine recommendations were tailored to the menu. We'll be back.

My wife was in the mood for plaice. It wasn't easy on a Monday, as the restaurant choices were already somewhat limited. When you rely on accessibility, the restrictions are even more extensive. We were admittedly a little nervous about falling into a tourist trap, but we were pleasantly surprised: top-notch service, including table adjustments to our needs. After the starter, Conny received the plaice she requested, of superb quality. Being a lazy dog, I chose the pan-fried fish and learned something right away: it doesn't always have to come from different fish; one is enough. And neither the breading nor the fried potatoes have to be swimming in fat. Add to that the appropriate drink recommendations and pleasant conversation: It was a delicious, entertaining, and therefore well-rounded evening. We'll be repeat offenders.

Very, very tasty May plaice with crab!! The extremely mayonnaise-based potato salad, in my opinion, somewhat spoiled the overall experience, despite the really good quality of the fish. Next time, I'll switch to fried potatoes. Service was simply excellent, until we wanted to pay – unfortunately, it took an unreasonably long time for someone to come along.
