Addis Café Leipzig in Leipzig

The change in my review relates to my last 3 visits. In the summer we left once after waiting for an hour. It was full, but after being greeted (as regulars, mind you) we were studiously ignored. The other two visits, each with a larger group, weren't as nice either. The atmosphere in the restaurant has always been a bit cool and the waiting times long, but even when it is comparatively quiet, the service takes 30 minutes for drinks alone. Reorders are not possible at all. The portions have become significantly smaller. The prices are still higher than the competition. Last time we visited there were really only 2 small pieces of chicken in the Doro Wot and we felt like we were being fooled. There are now very good alternatives in Leipzig and Halle and we no longer visit the Addis Café when we have an appetite for Ingera.

We got delivery from Wolt, generous portions, delicious and fast service.

This place brings all the lovely flavors you'd expect if you've had good Ethiopian before. Be sure to share!

The facility is okay, the staff is very friendly and the food is good. I've had some better Ethiopian food, but overall it was still pretty tasty. You can do it now. :)

Bad food, wasn't my thing at all

We were there for lunch during the week. There was a great lunch option, either vegan or with beef. We tried both. I have already visited various Ethiopian restaurants in Germany and I have to say that this one is comparatively one of the best. The sauces are very tasty and they don't skimp on the injera either. The portion filled us to the max: the prices are very fair and the hostess was very friendly and accommodating. If I come to Leipzig again, I will come here again.

Must eat in Leipzig! The owner is very nice and the food is heavenly. The spices are well balanced and the mixing plate for two people (see picture) is very varied. The price is right too. Always happy again!

The food was very tasty and a lot. Eating Ethiopian injera is an event in itself. Injeras are plates and cutlery in one. The rooms have more of a bistro flair, but are decorated in a typical country style.

Ethiopian cuisine is my favorite food! I have visited Ethiopian restaurants in several European cities, and I have been here twice already. First time we had the buffet and second time a la carte. I think the quality is excellent and just as tasty as in other places. Only second time beef was a bit tough. Staff is always friendly and helpful!

The food was good, but waiting for 1 hour and 40 minutes... it wasn't worth it.

Very small portions, one of three dishes ordered was missing completely, and another dish was missing the side dish that had been ordered for a fee. When we spoke over the phone, we were told in a very unfriendly manner that they would not deliver and that I should contact Liferando and not them. The taste of what arrived was very good, but none of us were full and given the portion size, the price was unjustified.

We’re back for a second meal here. We’ve spent a month in Ethiopia, eating exclusively Ethiopian food and loved it. The food here is as good as several places we went in Ethiopia—certainly 100% authentic. The injera (crepe like sour bread that is their staple in Ethiopia) was authentic and had that wonderful sourness that we love so much. Service is warm, friendly and attentive. Though food may not come quickly, good food takes time. We did not feel the wait was out of the ordinary for food entirely prepared by hand upon order. We waited perhaps 15-30 minutes minutes after placing our order. And now that we’ve finished our second meal here I can say it was as good as the last, served even more promptly—perhaps within ten minutes of placing our order. Amagasegenalu!!!

Delicious. I've been there a few times years ago and it's still very, very good. It seems rather inconspicuous, but you get great Ethiopian food. Whether with meat or vegan, even our little son likes it. Colorful and spicy, picture-perfect and spicy, all on delicious sourdough flatbreads, delicately seasoned. The three of us ate a huge platter. We use our hands, of course, but Grandpa also got a fork when he asked. We're already looking forward to the Tej in summer :)

Waited over 2 hours for the food. It wasn't anything complex. 2 injera cakes with some lamb and chickpeas...

Great food, great service. Unfortunately, the coziness in the cafe can be improved. And UNFORTUNATELY there was only German beer. But gladly again.

We were there for the vegan buffet and it was incredibly tasty. :) the restaurant has a nice indoor and outdoor area of ​​a pleasant size. The atmosphere is very familiar and we were warmly welcomed. The buffet selection was a great size - just enough so that you could try everything at least once. We were thrilled. Everything was so delicious! There was a good mix of hot/spicy and slightly milder dishes. The price-performance ratio is definitely right (10 euros for an all-you-can-eat). You can just tell that the food here is freshly prepared with love. We'll definitely be back, thank you!❤️

Sehr, sehr gutes Essen. Ich komme gerne hierher, denn es schmeckt immer gut und ist mal was anderes, da wird äthiopisch gekocht wird. Es gibt außerdem viele vegane und vegetarische Gerichte. Man muss sich darauf einstellen, dass man ein wenig auf das Essen warten muss, aber das ist vollkommen ok, denn es wird alles frisch zubereitet! Und am besten vorher einen Tisch reservieren, denn abends kann es sehr voll werden.

We had '9A' from the menu - beyayinet with meat, which is big enough for 2. The food (the 'wots') was excellent, Injera was good enough. Service was good, prices fair. Spacious enough with an outside sitting (which isn't the case of most Ethiopian restaurants we visited in Europe).

Absolutely delicious food. I went twice in my week long visit to Leipzig, and I will be coming back next time I am in the city. Highly recommend.

We had a reservation for 9 guests 1 hour before closing. There was no food in the vegetarian buffet left however the owner offered to prepare a special mix on every plate. We arrived late but we were served well and we liked the place

עוד לא הגענו לשם אבל אנחנו כבר על המטוס מחכים להמראה ... לפי מה שהבנתי האוכל ברמה מאוד גבוה וחריף מאוד ... הבנתי שאוכלים עם הידיים אבל היינו מאוד שמחים אם יש אופציה לסכום חד פעמי ... ולפי התגובות הלחם מאוד חמוץ ולא כמו הלחם הנהדר והקראנצ'י הגרמני ...ישמח לוולטמייסטר או לפחות ג'בטה. תודה רבה ואנחנו בטוחים שיהיה טעים מאוד !

Amazing food, perfectly reasonable prices. The only thing we didn't like that much was the bread. It's a bit sour and nothing like German bread but I guess you get used to it. The curry and all the side dishes were amazing, tho!

Wie lange haben wir nach einem guten Äthiopier in Leipzig gesucht... hier haben wir ihn gefunden. Das Essen ist super lecker und der Service gut. Die Preise vom Essen und Getränken sind fair. Für alle die gerne scharf essen, ist auch etwas dabei. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Zum Glück konnten wir noch untergebracht werden, obwohl unsere Reservierung vergessen wurde. Sehr leckeres Essen zu einem sehr guten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Das Ambiente ist ungemütlich. Sehr hell, Möbeliar wie in einer Kantine, laut.

The platter for four was mind blowing! Staff was awesome and the homemade honey wine... Delicious!

Very nice and for me unusual food. I loved the vegetarian option with mushrooms and mashed peas. The homemade Tej is highly recommended and the yoghurt dessert was delicious. Others really enjoyed the chicken version of the main course.

Meine Familie hat einen Bezug zu Äthiopien, weshalb ich in jeder Stadt äthiopisch essen, wenn es ein entsprechendes Restaurant gibt. Dieses Restaurant bietet eine sehr gute Auswahl, ist ansprechend gestaltet und hat einen tollen Service! Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt und ich komme bei meinem nächsten Leipzig-Besuch gerne wieder.

Vielen Dank für den Extra-Service, das Essen für einen in der gegenüberliegenden Klinik Patienten zu passieren!

Authentic Ethiopian food in Leipzig. The vegan buffet every other Wednesday is awesome, a good choice of food, although not as spicey as in Ethiopia. Good injera. It is 10 Euros plus drinks, they ask you to book in advance. Locationwise it is a bit of a walk from the center, close to university facilities. I loved the tej, the honey wine.

Die äthiopische Küche zu probieren war eine gute Idee. Der Wirt war sehr freundlich und gab Tipps. Das Essen und die Getränke kamen zügig und auch vom Preis her war es völlig okay. Empfehlenswert ist die gemischte Platte, auf der sehr viele Gemüsearten, Fleisch und Dips sind. Gern wieder und sehr empfehlenswert.

Sehr gutes Essen, freundliche Bedingung, günstig. Café Addis ist sehr zu empfehlen und da es das einzige Restaurant seiner Art in Leipzig ist (äthiopische Küche), ist es wirklich etwas anderes. Wie typisch für äthiopische Küche gibt es zu allen Gerichten Injera (äthiopisches Sauerteigbrot auf Teffmehl-Basis).

Been there for a spontaneous dinner. Nice atmosphere, the interior of the restaurant designed in a modern style with many nods to the owner's Ethiopian roots. I liked that very much - no folcloristic crap, instead very authentically modern. The owners are super nice and gentle, the food arrived in a decent time and was delicious. I suggest everyone interested in east african cuisine check Addis Café out. You won't get any better original food anywhere in the area.

The food portions were not a lot or big. The food experience was just ok. The service was good though.

Essen ist gut, Bedienung ist freundlich und die Preise sind in Ordnung. Die Portionen sind übersichtlich, deswegen würde ich mir zur Vorspeise eine typische linsen Teigtasche gewünscht. Leider gibt es hier nicht. im ganzen ein gutes äthiopisches restaurant. man kann empehlen=)

Waren gestern da, sehr zu empfehlen. Alles sehr authentisch, bodenständisch und freundlich. Ich habe Jirah mit Huhn gegessen, was sehr scharf war, aber auch extrem lecker. Überhaupt wer die andere Art zu essen mag, sich mal von dem gewöhnlichen trennen will, sollte das Addis Café unbedingt ausprobiert haben. Zum Essen empfehle ich ein Zwickel Kellerbier, das passt hervorragend :)

Das Café/Restaurant ist relativ neu in der Stadt. Typisch äthiopische Küche von Äthiopiern/Innen betrieben. Hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Auf der Karte gibt es eine kleine Auswahl an Speisen. Man kann, aber muss nicht mit Händen essen, obwohl es sich schon anbietet bei Injera (äthiopisches Brot). Gerne einmal wieder!
