Addis Café Leipzig in Leipzig

Wir waren zum ersten Mal äthiopisch essen und waren gespannt, was uns erwartet. Man muss sich auf diese Küche einlassen, aber genau das macht den Reiz aus. Wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen und haben trotz fehlender Reservierung sofort einen Tisch bekommen. Da das Restaurant offenbar von einem kleinen Team geführt wird, sollte man etwas Geduld mitbringen. Die Wartezeit war für uns aber völlig in Ordnung. Das Essen war hervorragend. Wir hatten scharfes Rind und scharfe Pilze. Beides war sehr aromatisch, intensiv gewürzt und wirklich lecker. Die Schärfe war für unseren Geschmack schon an der oberen Grenze, aber genau so war es auch angekündigt. Traditionell wird mit Injera und den Händen gegessen. Besteck wurde uns aber selbstverständlich angeboten. Das Injera war mir persönlich etwas zu säuerlich, deshalb habe ich lieber mit Besteck gegessen. Das ist aber reine Geschmackssache. Die Portionen waren sehr großzügig. Zu dritt haben wir inklusive Getränke und Trinkgeld knapp 60 Euro bezahlt und sind mehr als satt geworden. Insgesamt war es für uns eine tolle Erfahrung und ganz sicher nicht unser letzter Besuch in einem äthiopischen Restaurant.

Wer eine gesunde, sättigende und schmackhafte Mahlzeit sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Die Chefin war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend, und auch alle anderen waren nett. Der Außenbereich ist sehr angenehm. Kommen Sie hungrig! ;)

Vorgestern waren wir im Addis Café und ehrlich, ich würde lieber eine andere Bewertung schreiben... Mein Mann hat mehrere Jahre in Äthiopien gelebt und wir freuen uns auf jedes äthiopische Restaurant. Dieses hier hat leider auf allen Fronten enttäuscht: - Essen - 3 Sterne für das Essen. Wir bestellten das Injera be Tibs, Kitfo Gericht und die Shiro Platte. Das Essen schmeckte so lala. Ich glaube nicht das mit niter kibbeh, die äthiopische Würzbutter, gekocht wurde. Alle Gerichte schmeckten recht verdeutscht. Jeder kocht anders, darum 3 Sterne, weil wir schon wesentlich besser und authentischer Äthiopisch gegessen haben. - Getränke - Meine bestellte Cola Zero war eine reguläre Cola, die leider auch noch zimmerwarm serviert wurde. Dem hätten Eiswürfel schon Abhilfe geschaffen. Der Tonic meines Mannes war gekühlt. Die 1 Sterne musste ich leider wegen Service und ja, Betrug vergeben. - Abrechnung - Wie gesagt bestellten wir 2 Teller Kombis (Shiro und Tibs) für je 15 Euro und Kitfo 18 Euro. Bekommen haben wir 1 Teller Kombi und das Shiro für 2,50 Euro. Woher ich das weiß? Das Shiro Gericht hatte kein Ei, was laut Karte mitkommt (sowie andere Beilagen). Man muss aber sagen, das Kitfo war eine recht großzügige Portion. Wir sind an dem Abend mit großer Vorfreude zum Addis Café gegangen, waren aber so müde und mental ausgelaugt, dass wir einfach bezahlt und gegangen sind. Die fantastisch guten Bewertungen haben unsere Erwartungen beeinflusst und vielleicht haben wir einfach einen schlechten Tag des Kochs getroffen. Wir kommen trotzdem nicht wieder (wer serviert Cola lauwarm?) und probieren stattdessen andere Restaurants aus.

Wir lieben dieses Restaurant. Die Mitarbeiter sind alle super freundlich und das Essen ist fantastisch! Wir nehmen regelmäßig die vegane platte für zwei. Man hat so die Auswahl an verschiedensten kleinen Gerichten und das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist einfach top. Wir kommen sehr gerne hier her und können es nur empfehlen.

Very delicious food! A friend I went with had already traveled to Ethiopia and said the food tasted just as good here as it did there. The interior is also very nice, inviting you to linger.

This is a real insider tip. Such excellent food and fantastic staff. The menu is explained very well. The ambiance isn't exactly inviting, but the food makes up for it.

Love it here! Super delicious food, lovely staff. Highly recommended, especially since Ethiopian food isn't often found anywhere else. It's worth trying the many different sauces/side dishes or choosing a dish that already includes a lot of them.

Incredibly nice atmosphere and people working there. The food was really good, but sadly not spicy at all - could imagine that Germans have different spiciness buds, so the cafe is adjusting based on that☺️. Next time I will ask to make it spicy! 🌶️ Portions are filling and prices are okay. The lamb dish was 18€, making it the most expensive one. Injera is top notch! I think the website would need to update their prices, since the lamb on there is 12€ and the rest also averaging around 10€ - which doesn’t correspond the actual menu. They take card too! 🙏

The service was very friendly; she spoke German and, with the table next to us, English as well. The food was fresh and good. We sat outside in the beautiful sunshine, which was pleasantly warm. We were delighted by the fresh flowers on the table. The food was of good quality. We saw the TV inside showing nature films, which we also liked; it was very relaxing. We were allowed to smoke, and there were ashtrays. We would be happy to come back.

Very tasty Ethiopian cuisine with a super price-performance ratio and nice service

It may look a bit unassuming from the outside, but we felt very well treated and were immediately welcomed in a friendly manner. The food was not only incredibly delicious, but also a great portion for a truly unbeatable price. The vegan injera for two seems like a great option for getting acquainted with Ethiopian cuisine, and even though the lack of cutlery was a bit unusual at first, it was still a very pleasant experience and will certainly lead us to eat Ethiopian food more often.

Very friendly and accommodating service, especially if you speak English! The food is delicious, freshly prepared, and plentiful; we were full and satisfied. Even our special requests (a special drink for the child and a platter for three people instead of two with beef AND mushrooms) were accommodated and fulfilled to our complete satisfaction. I've been there twice already and will definitely be back! The vegan version of the platter for two is just as delicious, by the way!

The menu was clear, which in itself is often a good sign. It was our first time eating Ethiopian food and we were quite happy with the food and the value for money. The food was freshly prepared and everything was very tasty. It would have been great to have the offer of cutlery, even if the food is traditionally eaten with your hands. We asked but didn't get one. Another point of criticism was that it was not possible to answer our questions about which sauces you could order or what the sauces listed were. We were also very surprised that the waitress simply greeted us in English and only took the orders in English. We found that a bit strange and very strange. Unfortunately, we didn't find the ambience to be that nice: the room was quite narrow and the restaurant was full of guests, so it was extremely stuffy and there were strong smells of food in the air. I can still recommend the restaurant to try something new, because the food itself was really quite good.

We were there spontaneously on a Friday evening and got a spot straight away. We ordered the lentil soup (01) as a starter (vegan) and the Je Tsom Addis Special (11) for two people as a main course (Injera = hearty "pancakes/bread" with vegan side dishes/sauces). The dishes were very tasty and definitely big enough to fill us up ;) The prices were also quite good. We'd love to come back!

Amazing food! I was totally hoping to find an Ethiopian restaurant in Leipzig and I was lucky enough to find out one happened to open up exactly when I moved there. The great thing about this restaurant compared to the one I normally love so much in Berlin (on Zietenstraße) is that they are way faster and seem to be better organized. They don't have quite same selection of course, but they have the classics. I also like the fact that it's located pretty centrally and is relatively easy to get to. I'm always able to convince my German husband to come with me here as well, because the food is so good 😉

You can save yourself. Everything takes forever and only 30% of the seats were occupied. Ordered side dishes were missing. The portions are quite meager, we ordered injera (the bread) three times. Unfortunately the website is not up to date. The taste was okay.

The change in my review relates to my last 3 visits. In the summer we left once after waiting for an hour. It was full, but after being greeted (as regulars, mind you) we were studiously ignored. The other two visits, each with a larger group, weren't as nice either. The atmosphere in the restaurant has always been a bit cool and the waiting times long, but even when it is comparatively quiet, the service takes 30 minutes for drinks alone. Reorders are not possible at all. The portions have become significantly smaller. The prices are still higher than the competition. Last time we visited there were really only 2 small pieces of chicken in the Doro Wot and we felt like we were being fooled. There are now very good alternatives in Leipzig and Halle and we no longer visit the Addis Café when we have an appetite for Ingera.

This place brings all the lovely flavors you'd expect if you've had good Ethiopian before. Be sure to share!

The facility is okay, the staff is very friendly and the food is good. I've had some better Ethiopian food, but overall it was still pretty tasty. You can do it now. :)

We were there for lunch during the week. There was a great lunch option, either vegan or with beef. We tried both. I have already visited various Ethiopian restaurants in Germany and I have to say that this one is comparatively one of the best. The sauces are very tasty and they don't skimp on the injera either. The portion filled us to the max: the prices are very fair and the hostess was very friendly and accommodating. If I come to Leipzig again, I will come here again.

Must eat in Leipzig! The owner is very nice and the food is heavenly. The spices are well balanced and the mixing plate for two people (see picture) is very varied. The price is right too. Always happy again!

The food was very tasty and a lot. Eating Ethiopian injera is an event in itself. Injeras are plates and cutlery in one. The rooms have more of a bistro flair, but are decorated in a typical country style.

Ethiopian cuisine is my favorite food! I have visited Ethiopian restaurants in several European cities, and I have been here twice already. First time we had the buffet and second time a la carte. I think the quality is excellent and just as tasty as in other places. Only second time beef was a bit tough. Staff is always friendly and helpful!

The food was good, but waiting for 1 hour and 40 minutes... it wasn't worth it.

Very small portions, one of three dishes ordered was missing completely, and another dish was missing the side dish that had been ordered for a fee. When we spoke over the phone, we were told in a very unfriendly manner that they would not deliver and that I should contact Liferando and not them. The taste of what arrived was very good, but none of us were full and given the portion size, the price was unjustified.

We’re back for a second meal here. We’ve spent a month in Ethiopia, eating exclusively Ethiopian food and loved it. The food here is as good as several places we went in Ethiopia—certainly 100% authentic. The injera (crepe like sour bread that is their staple in Ethiopia) was authentic and had that wonderful sourness that we love so much. Service is warm, friendly and attentive. Though food may not come quickly, good food takes time. We did not feel the wait was out of the ordinary for food entirely prepared by hand upon order. We waited perhaps 15-30 minutes minutes after placing our order. And now that we’ve finished our second meal here I can say it was as good as the last, served even more promptly—perhaps within ten minutes of placing our order. Amagasegenalu!!!

Delicious. I've been there a few times years ago and it's still very, very good. It seems rather inconspicuous, but you get great Ethiopian food. Whether with meat or vegan, even our little son likes it. Colorful and spicy, picture-perfect and spicy, all on delicious sourdough flatbreads, delicately seasoned. The three of us ate a huge platter. We use our hands, of course, but Grandpa also got a fork when he asked. We're already looking forward to the Tej in summer :)

We were there for the vegan buffet and it was incredibly tasty. :) the restaurant has a nice indoor and outdoor area of ​​a pleasant size. The atmosphere is very familiar and we were warmly welcomed. The buffet selection was a great size - just enough so that you could try everything at least once. We were thrilled. Everything was so delicious! There was a good mix of hot/spicy and slightly milder dishes. The price-performance ratio is definitely right (10 euros for an all-you-can-eat). You can just tell that the food here is freshly prepared with love. We'll definitely be back, thank you!❤️

Sehr, sehr gutes Essen. Ich komme gerne hierher, denn es schmeckt immer gut und ist mal was anderes, da wird äthiopisch gekocht wird. Es gibt außerdem viele vegane und vegetarische Gerichte. Man muss sich darauf einstellen, dass man ein wenig auf das Essen warten muss, aber das ist vollkommen ok, denn es wird alles frisch zubereitet! Und am besten vorher einen Tisch reservieren, denn abends kann es sehr voll werden.

We had '9A' from the menu - beyayinet with meat, which is big enough for 2. The food (the 'wots') was excellent, Injera was good enough. Service was good, prices fair. Spacious enough with an outside sitting (which isn't the case of most Ethiopian restaurants we visited in Europe).

Absolutely delicious food. I went twice in my week long visit to Leipzig, and I will be coming back next time I am in the city. Highly recommend.

We had a reservation for 9 guests 1 hour before closing. There was no food in the vegetarian buffet left however the owner offered to prepare a special mix on every plate. We arrived late but we were served well and we liked the place

Amazing food, perfectly reasonable prices. The only thing we didn't like that much was the bread. It's a bit sour and nothing like German bread but I guess you get used to it. The curry and all the side dishes were amazing, tho!

Wie lange haben wir nach einem guten Äthiopier in Leipzig gesucht... hier haben wir ihn gefunden. Das Essen ist super lecker und der Service gut. Die Preise vom Essen und Getränken sind fair. Für alle die gerne scharf essen, ist auch etwas dabei. Sehr zu empfehlen!
