The nasi lemak here is good!! I tried the Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah. The chicken was tender, crispy, and delicious. Combined with the nasi lemak, sambal, peanuts, and dried fish, it makes a harmony in your mouth. As an Indonesian, I Definitely will recommend this Restaurant to my friends. Next time I will try the nasi lemak with rendang. I also ordered teh-tarik-ais. Not sweet enough for me, but for my non-asian friends they are good. So perhaps it's adjusted a bit to suit German tastes. The owner was really nice and helpful as well. I made some mistake in the reservation, and we have 1 more extra people come in at the end. However, he was really attentive and helpful towards us. We are able to enjoy our dinner all 7 of us because of his help. Kudos to that!!

Was excited to find out that there’s a Malaysian restaurant in Köln! The food was delicious & the portion was generous. Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah is highly recommended! The fried chicken was very well-spiced. Personally as a Malaysian, I would have preferred the sambal to be spicy though. Will definitely eat there again, when I visit the city again.

Portion size is decent and everything we ordered was pretty good. Prior Reservation is recommended as the place filled up in no time.

It was our first time at Abang Toto’s, and we were immediately impressed. The atmosphere is warm, the service is incredibly friendly, and the food is fantastic. Our two vegetarian main courses were unbelievably delicious, accompanied by an aromatic mango salad that was the perfect complement. For dessert, we had the green pudding. It was unusual, incredibly light, and so good that we ordered it again right away. Be sure to also try the tea and coffee with sweetened condensed milk. We will definitely be back.

I went there with a friend from Singapore, and we had Nasi Lemak with deep-fried spiced chicken. It tasted authentic and was wonderfully spicy. The chicken was also very juicy. The steamed dessert, Kuih Talam, was incredibly delicious and not too sweet. We were absolutely thrilled! 🙏👏 The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. I'll definitely be back to try the other dishes. Highly recommended!

For a change, something positive and refreshingly different, and right here in Weidenpesch! The food was truly outstanding! Everyone should try the Malaysian fried chicken at least once, the curry was divine, and even the simple salad was packed with flavor. Just be aware that you should be able to tolerate and enjoy a certain level of spiciness, otherwise even all the nice (and completely non-alcoholic) drinks won't help.

A truly wonderful dining experience. After nine years in Europe, it's rare to encounter such friendly staff. The portions were ample for my boyfriend and me, and the food was delicious. If you're looking for authentic Malaysian food, Abang Totos is the place to be. They offer a variety of vegetarian and meat dishes, along with traditional tea drinks. The fried chicken is especially recommended. Reservations are definitely recommended on weekends.

Came here recently to have a meal that is closer to my home. Atmosphere was cosy. Food tasty. Had the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah. Chicken was not dry and flavours were good overall. Though I prefer my sambal to be a tad spicier but that's just personal preference. Had teh tarik as my beverage and that was pretty good too. A different take from the thicker tea type I'm used to but was still good nonetheless. Service was fantastic and decently quick too.

I arrived in Cologne and stumbled across this restaurant on Google. What can I say? I felt like I was back in Malaysia. The mango salad was fantastic. The chicken was incredibly delicious and tender. The nasi goreng tasted absolutely authentic. And to top it off, the two owners were very friendly, and I wish them all the best for their restaurant! Highly recommended!!!

My family were on a Christmas cruise through the Rhine River. Stopped in Cologne and found the only Malaysian restaurant via google. The ambience is welcoming. The place is clean and tidy. The service is very friendly and accommodating. The food is elevated authentic Malaysian food. We will be visiting Cologne more often now, just to visit this restaurant again. Highly recommended for anyone craving complex flavors and a good time with family and friends!

We were here today for the "Supper Club." The dishes were exceptionally delicious, unlike anything else you can find in Cologne. The wine pairings were perfect, and the service was welcoming and attentive. The whole evening, including the music and DJ, was a great success and very enjoyable. Thank you!

Wow, I haven't had such delicious food in a long time. Fried/spiced chicken with rice, peanuts, and dried anchovies (I can't remember the name). Super tasty and definitely a little different. My friends' food was also very good. Parking is a bit tricky on the main road. There aren't many other seats in the restaurant. It was my first time there. I can imagine it's always busy and difficult to get a table.

The restaurant has set out to make Weidenpesch "tastier" – and they certainly succeeded! We received a very friendly welcome and had the fried chicken for starters and the national dish for main course, both of which were absolutely delicious. I will definitely go back!

It was my first time trying Malaysian food, and wow! it totally blew me away! I ordered Ayam Percik and Char Kway Teow, and both were amazing. The chicken was super flavorful and perfectly marinated, and that sauce was just incredible, it went so well with rice. The noodles were also really tasty and full of flavor. Everything was seasoned just right. Honestly, I can’t believe I found Malaysian food this good in Germany! I’d happily take a few hours’ train ride back to Cologne just to eat here again.

As a Malaysian, I can feel how passionate the chef is to serve our Malaysian food. All the spices that could be found in Germany were in the dishes. My boyfriend enjoyed the Nasi Lemak ayam berempah a lot, I also like the ayam percik (but I still can’t get over the fact it’s not a full chicken leg like in Malaysian 😭😭) I can see that the chef adapted to German’s preference of boneless chicken, also did his best to make the chicken breast very tender but just i usually really don’t eat chicken breast 😭 Rendang Nangka was a little confusing for me; but actually tasted not bad Beverages wise, Teh ais is not sweet enough (as of Malaysia standard lol) and Teh o Limau was not bad but I wish there is Teh Limau ais option 😹 Still love to see passionate chef who serve Malaysian food wholeheartedly 🙌🏻🫶🏻

I've been there several times and have tried the small but excellent menu. Whether meat, vegan, or vegetarian, everything is so incredibly delicious. It never gets boring, thanks to the dish of the month. Passersby just have to look in the window and they'll greet you with a smile. Everyone is very friendly.

We wanted to try Malaysian food and we gave it a go in this little restaurant. The staff was friendly and the food was yummy and fresh. I tried the dish of the month, some rice noodles with nice spices and tofu and my husband the tipical dish with jack fruit, rice and sauce (vegan version). We were the first diner guest so the food was served promptly. We definitely recommend it! I loved that they have vegan options!

Sometimes you really wonder what's wrong with all the reviews. €43 for two dishes Dry rice with no sauce A few nuts and cucumbers and three tiny pieces of chicken? Really nothing special! The owner must be making a fortune. Maybe €4 per dish at the retail price. No one can sell this to me as authentic cuisine. Oh yeah, the coconut milk was also missing.

The love of the owner and his hospitality is indescribable... you can feel it, and you enjoy the meal with a wonderful experience. The way the dishes and drinks are selected is very thoughtful and thoughtful... I particularly liked the user-friendly website with its simply symbolized food categories, which definitely helped me (who never makes a quick decision) to order what best suited me, my needs, and my taste... Absolutely recommend it, everyone!!! Please go have dinner there!!!

We had a wonderful culinary journey with a warm and attentive guide. We wisely chose to eat a small breakfast and skip lunch so we could sample as much as possible. From the homemade soft drinks to the appetizers, from the main courses to the dessert, the flavors were simply multifaceted and stunningly aromatic, not too spicy, not too sweet, not too salty—simply perfect. The trip to Weidenpesch is worth it; after all, you can get all the way to Malaysia! Favorites were the mango salad and the jackfruit dish. The rest of the family was particularly impressed by the crispy chicken and the beef... we'll be back!

Food is simple but good. It simply wasn't a mind-blowing experience. I would say if you want to try something new for for it.

Authentic enjoyment at a fair price! I tried Ayam Rempah and Nasi Lemak here – simply unbelievably delicious! The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned with aromatic spices. The Nasi Lemak was just as delicious: the coconut rice smelled wonderful, the sambal was just the right amount of heat, and the side dishes rounded it all off perfectly. The best part? The price was absolutely fair – great quality for a reasonable price. I can recommend this place to anyone who loves authentic Southeast Asian food. I'll definitely be back!

Highly recommended for this little gem. Finally, a vegan selection with different flavors and textures. The food is on the savory and spicy side, which I really like. Recommendation: Mee Goreng Mamak with tofu. With the caramelized soy sauce, it's simply wow. The Nasi Lemak with the wonderfully spiced jackfruit was also great; I would have preferred the tempeh to be more seasoned and warmer. The coconut rice is very flavorful and soothes the palate very well after the spicy sauces. The service was very friendly and personable. I don't understand why there were so few people here on a Saturday night; the place should be much busier. PS: It wasn't on the menu, but the craft beer from Italy is also available with lime 🤩

The food is good, but definitely not Malaysian. It feels more like an Indonesian restaurant, with a strong flavour of coconut milk instead of spices.

The iced Tarik tea was great, and the food was simply delicious – it brought back so many memories of our last vacation in Malaysia. We even received a dessert as a farewell gift :) We traveled all the way from Munich and would love to come back!

If the food were prepared as described in their cookbook, it would be great – but it isn't... what a shame. Given the concise menu, I would have preferred more love and authenticity in the preparation. The price/performance ratio is debatable. Not for someone who has already been spoiled by the aromatic and creative cuisine of Malaysia, but it's edible. Ambience? Where?!? Student fast food joint... Friendly, attentive service, but not worthy of a TripAdvisor listing and too expensive.

We spent a wonderful evening at Abang Totos. Having been to Malaysia before, we were already familiar with Malaysian cuisine. And what can I say, we were not disappointed. It tasted incredibly delicious and authentic and brought back some great memories. We opted for the vegan menu for two, and it was perfect. Be sure to come hungry! The owner can tell you a lot about the items on the menu and recommends them, and the evening is rounded off with top-notch service! For those who don't like spicy food, it's best to ask :)

I went to this restaurant in Cologne because I'd gotten to know and appreciate the cuisine in Rotterdam. I actually wanted to try those thin "pancakes," but unfortunately they weren't available. But I have to say, what I got was significantly better than the reason I went there. The appetizer was simply amazing. The mango salad is highly recommended, and the small burgers with jackfruit or beef with kaffir lime are superb. The curry and the udon noodles in caramelized soy sauce are incredibly delicious. The portions are so large, in fact, that I had to fight for them in the end, so I ended up packing some. The service is super attentive and checks repeatedly to make sure everything's okay, and you get your food relatively quickly. A definite recommendation for Cologne!

Absolutely fantastic experience. My wife and I were here for the first time today and had a stellar experience from start to finish. The food was delicious and brilliantly cooked (Michelin-trained chef showing his skills) and the service so attentive and friendly we felt instantly welcome. We even got to chat to Todd, one of the two owners, and learned about the story behind the restaurant. If you like good food and a homey atmosphere, this is your place. 10/10 recommendation and will 100% go again.

Being a Malaysian, abang toto is definitely one of the places in Germany that reminds me of my roots and proud of our Malaysian cuisines . I came to the restaurant today with one other friend and we had an amazing time here. Being served with one of the closest to authentic Malaysian food is just one of the blessings the restaurant could offer. We order two tea tariks, a classic Mee goreng, and the new addition to their menu, nasi lemak with fried chicken. And it was just simply delicious. We also had a wonderful time chatting with the owner of the restaurant, and their fellow staffs including a Malaysian Abang. They are so friendly and welcoming. They even provide us with some snacks while waiting for our food to be served and desserts after our meal which is the traditional malaysian kuih (pastries made from mostly glutinous rice flour) and it’s all on the house. What’s not to love? I highly recommend everyone to come and give it a try as not only are u served with one of the best foods in town, but also get to meet new friends in a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere the restaurant offers. Especially if u are a Malaysian and trying to find good Malaysian food in Germany , this is the only place in NRW where u can expect no disappointment. Lastly, I would really love to shout out to all the staffs that worked hard to provide us with such a wonderful evening, surrounded by good food and people. Keep up the good work and will for sure visit again soon.

This restaurant had been on our list for a long time, mainly due to the great reviews and the rarity of Malaysian cuisine in the area. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t quite live up to expectations, and we left feeling somewhat disappointed. We visited in May, and my boyfriend was especially looking forward to having Laksa. However, we were told it wasn’t available at the time and might return to the menu in winter. That was a bit of a letdown. Having visited Malaysia a few years ago, we came in with a sense of what to expect—bold, rich spices and vibrant flavors. The satay chicken was one of the better dishes: juicy and tender. The peanut sauce, however, was too sweet for my taste. I personally didn’t enjoy the Nasi Lemak—the rice was broken and too soft, and the sambal sauce was more salty than spicy, lacking the depth we were hoping for. The pineapple salad also fell flat, tasting mostly sour and quite plain. The beef rendang, typically known for its intense and complex spice profile, leaned heavily toward sweetness, which overwhelmed the other flavors. For the €20 price point, we expected more. My boyfriend had the fried mee noodles, which were decent—definitely better than my dish—but again, the flavor was mostly just soy sauce without much else going on. That said, food is subjective. While it wasn’t to our taste, we noticed other guests enjoying their meals, and the service was polite and welcoming. If you’re curious about Malaysian cuisine, it might still be worth a visit—you might find something you enjoy more than we did.

My visit to this restaurant was overall pleasant, especially in terms of cleanliness and atmosphere. The dining room is tidy and comfortable, although a decoration that more closely reflects Malaysia's cultural diversity would make the ambience appear more authentic. As far as the food is concerned, the rendang was unfortunately a bit too dry and too salty, which meant that the typical spices didn't really come into their own. As far as I know, rendang originally comes from Sumatra, Indonesia - and from my personal experience, the rendang there tastes more intensely spiced and has a more delicate consistency. Perhaps the preparation or the spice mixture could be adjusted a little to get closer to this character. Another point: whole fried peanuts were used in almost all dishes. These would be more effective as a fine garnish and would fit more harmoniously into the overall look of the dish. The “Teh Tarik” drink was a bit bland for my taste - the tea aroma was barely noticeable, and the sweetness from the condensed milk could have been a little stronger to achieve the typical balance of this drink. The mango salad combination with peanut sauce didn't entirely convince me either, as the fresh, sour taste of the mango was masked by the heavy, spicy peanut sauce. The tempeh pieces were also cut quite large, which made the consistency seem a bit unbalanced. I would like to positively emphasize the friendly and fast service. The staff was courteous and attentive, which made the entire experience much more pleasant. Another point I would like to note is the limited selection of drinks. There is no beer or wine selection, which would have been a nice addition for a restaurant of this type. I wonder if this may be due to the restaurant's "Halal" label, which is why alcoholic drinks are not offered. Unfortunately I don't know, but it would be interesting to find out. Despite these comments, I have to say that the presentation of the food was very attractive and the food looked really good visually. Please do not understand this feedback as negative criticism, but rather as a personal suggestion. I'm a little surprised by the number of five-star reviews - perhaps because everyone has their own expectations. I have been to Malaysia five times and have noticed that the cuisine there is much more oriental and spicier. These impressions naturally flow into my assessment. I hope that my feedback is seen as a constructive contribution to the further development of this restaurant, because the potential is definitely there.

Insider tip! Authentic Malaysian cuisine! Nasi lemak and papaya salad were incredibly tasty and just like in Malaysia. Not only did we taste incredibly good, the atmosphere and the staff were also incredibly great. We have discovered a gem and will be checking back regularly. We are already looking forward to the next time!

We tried this restaurant due to an upcoming trip to Malaysia to see if Malaysian food was for us. Not disappointed, we opted for the traditional Malaysian national dish and were not disappointed. A very interesting Malaysian restaurant offering authentic food. We had taken the Chef's menu and we loved everything which was served to us. The mango salad is a must try. The Rendang was cooked to perfection and also the chicken was melting in the mouth as well. The veggies were equally an highlight due to their taste. Not to mention the pandang sweet and the coconut salty & sweet thingy was amazing as well. We would love to visit once again and hope to special daily menus as well. That would be great addition to the existing menu. Thank you for the service and the wonderful experience.

A relaxed and welcoming restaurant where you can get delicious malay drinks and food. The dishes were well balanced, and we loved that vegan, vegetarian as well as meat dishes were available.
