A small but incredibly charming café that delights us every time. The banh mi bo kho is absolutely delicious – the perfect combination of tender meat and crispy baguette. The Vietnamese coffee rounds the whole thing off wonderfully. Everything is just right here: friendly service, cozy atmosphere and authentic dishes. We are always happy to eat here. Absolutely recommended!

Came across it somehow by chance and became my personal "happy place" in 1980: Sensational seasonal salad with papaya! Various Bánh Mì and Phở Chay: Mega! Service staff are not only friendly, but also attentive.

This is a very special restaurant. There is no “box” that fits. Respect! Originally run by Vietnamese, but not traditionally but in a new creative stylish way. Stimulating. Very international concept. The old is connected to the new. And a lot of hip elements were also introduced. The restaurant is incredibly popular among today's younger generation. Older students will not feel comfortable there. The menu is English-Vietnamese. I had to find my way around it a bit. I had a Vietnamese French sandwich. A real meal. Crossover kitchen with a difference. And a great red wine with it. People know their way around the wines. The "soups" looked very good too. You should definitely make a reservation, at least on weekends. No photos of me. I was too embarrassed (Hehe).

Disastrous the chicken was like rubber

Here you can enjoy a delicious Vietnamese bread dish (Banh Mi). Close your eyes and you'll feel like you're sitting on the side of the road in Hanoi. Well almost.. Food is definitely good, not quite good, but quite authentic if I can classify it as a German potato.

Very nice, small restaurant with very friendly staff. The food was very tasty! We had the vegan Bánh Mi, the sweet potato fries and the seasonal salad with papaya. We ordered the latter without meat or fish. They kindly added very tasty tofu. This surprised us and at the same time made us very happy. The staff was attentive and friendly.

2024: Beautiful location with a corresponding atmosphere. We ate the vegan soup. Unfortunately, the soup is now served with fewer toppings and is quite loaded with noodles. As a result, the ratio between vegetables, noodles and broth was no longer quite right for me. Otherwise it was really tasty! 2019: A perfect place to switch off from everyday life. Super nice service! I recommend always asking for the weekly special. The owners always come up with something special and it's only available for one week throughout the year - so don't miss it! Be sure to try a Vietnamese coffee or the homemade drinks!

Nice Vietnamese restaurant. If you like pho, this is the place for you.

A cult mini-restaurant, interesting tables and just charming. The food was good, but in my opinion not excellent, but it was really tasty. The first Kölsch was still cold, unfortunately there is only bottled Kölsch. The second Kölsch was already lukewarm. That's a shame. The service was rather indifferent, definitely not particularly friendly and we regularly had to call in for more drinks. Despite the little things that aren't so optimal, we will, because it is a special restaurant with special food beyond the burger mainstream.

The food was really nice! I enjoyed the Vietnamese iced coffee and bahn mi (if you can't handle spicy food, there are red peppers in the bahn mi so take it out before eating) and pho. The only reason its a 4 star is because the vegetarian pho was quite salty and oddly too flavourful. My partner is vegetarian and he didn't enjoy it as much. If you take the meat options, its fantastic! CASH ONLY**

The menu is small, which usually suggests that what is on it is prepared with love and skill. The best sweet potato fries I've ever eaten. Sometimes we go there just to eat some fries ;) Báhn Mís are super tasty and fresh. The ragu or stew is my favorite dish there. Changing wine and beer varieties that taste damn good. Location is very nice, inside and out and the service is quick and courteous. 10 out of 10

Small restaurant but comfy and the food is so good. The variety is not much, but speciality beat it. Recommendation: Pho with additional tongue meat. As appetizer choose fried sweet potatoes. Another specialty is the ice coffee.

We were there twice in a row (in one day;-), at lunchtime and in the afternoon. The shop is so authentic and the food is absolutely delicious. You can sit very nicely outside and inside. Service also great!

I love the 1980. The Pho and Banh Mi are a blast. The people there are super nice. Bring a tiny bit of patience during lunchtime. Sometimes everything piles up at one time. But it's worth it because it's so delicious.

Food is at a good level. The restaurant space is a bit small so it's quite stuffy and smelly. The bad point is that the interviewer is so bad that when you order a dish without hearing your face, it looks like someone owes you a debt. In general, it's an experience, but because of the service attitude, I probably won't come a second time

The Classic Banh Mi includes grilled pork, duck liver, salad and some vegetables. The salad tasted like the canned variety from the supermarket, the bread wasn't hot and crispy and wasn't as good as I expected. However, the 10 euro banh mi can fill me up. South Vietnamese beef pho, that's not what I know. Finally Banh Mi Xiu Mai, it's like the sauce of tomato spaghetti with meatballs served with bread, I don't find it tasty. The service staff is not particularly friendly. The restaurant space is too small and narrow. After eating, your clothes will definitely smell like food

The Bánh Mì with shrimp was good, but unfortunately it didn't fill me up for long. The interior is a bit dark, the outside area is beautifully planted and gives the place warmth. I would come again and try more dishes.

I came here for a quick dinner but loved to stay longer. It’s a small but cozy place, tucked in a quiet corner of residential cologne downtown. *cash only* Food quality was excellent! Lots of herbs… just as it should be. I had the bun bo hue, which I found the broth to taste more like pho than it is for bun bo hue - nevertheless, it didn’t matter because the food was simply was delicious! Highly recommended and I will certainly be back again.

The food was very tasty. Unfortunately the ventilation in the restaurant was not good. Hours later, her hair and clothing still had a strong smell of food.

Food: The vegan Pho Chay is simply delicious! I can only recommend! Ambience: I was here on a Friday at 5:30 p.m. and luckily it wasn't crowded. Unfortunately it dragged and was a bit fresh (in February). There are about 20 seats inside, so it's comfortable to sit next to each other ;) But I would like to come back again and enjoy the delicious Pho.

I love the foods I ordered. We had bahn mi gambas and green papaya salad. So delicious. Price is ok, not the cheapest but it's worthwhile. Bahnmi was €10.50 and salad was €9.50. Recommended 😁 Place is small but cozy.

Time to travel in Europe When I'm bored with local food, I always find pho to eat. Look at information from Google Maps. There are many restaurants that sell pho. But there are often other Asian foods as well. So I chose this restaurant. Because they only sell Vietnamese food. And it was an excellent decision. Because of the beef pho Every piece of meat in the bowl was delicious. Including additional orders of beef tongue and meatballs. Eat until the bowl is finished. You won't be disappointed when you come to eat here.

The Cafe1980 has specialized in a few dishes and this is also noticeable in the taste. If you like Vietnamese cuisine, then this is a must

What a great little hidden gem. The food was good. Loved the sweet potatoe fries recipe. As a US American from Texas I was impressed with the quality of the food. The Beef Stew was flavorful and I drank up all the water because it was so good. It's no wonder this tiny place is full. My wife is Vietnamese and she also gave it her vote of approval.

Sehr leckeres Banh Mi. Wir hatten Banh Mi Classic und Vegan, beide haben sehr gut geschmeckt und uns gefühlt nach Vietnam versetzt. Auch, dass es hier Egg Coffee gibt hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Freundliche Bedienung, tolles Essen und Egg Coffee. Fünf Sterne. :)

반미클래식이랑 쌀국수 먹었는데 완전 맛있게 잘먹었어요. 잎파리 많이 들가서 향신료 싫으신 분들은 잘 안맞을수 있어요. 근데 전 향신료 러버라서 매우매우 맛있게 먹었답니당ㅎㅎ 여행하는동안 쌀국수 좋아해서 자주 먹는편인데 그저그런데는 리뷰 안쓰고 진짜 맛있었던데만 리뷰 쓰거든요. 추천이용 아 결제는 카드안되고 현금만되요

Excellent food, right by our hotel (Hotel stadt München) hardly no wait and reasonable prices. Would definitely come back! Menu in German and English! We had lovely vegy spring rolls and summer rolls and the peanut curry with coconut cream which was delicious

Wir sind heute aufgrund der guten Bewertung in Google Maps auf das Restaurant gestoßen. Wir können diese Bewertung vollkommen nachvollziehen! In diesem kleinen sympathischen Plätzchen passt Alles zusammen: leichtes und schmackhaftes Essen & freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Wir werden wiederkommen 😊

Die pho Brühe war nicht schlecht, aber auch nicht wow. die Nudeln al dente. Wir haben 1.80 Euro extra gezahlt für Knochenmark und Bällchen, was für dafür bekamen, war leider echt wenig. Die Extras würde ich demnach weglassen. Der vietnamesische Kaffee war viiiiel zu süß und ungenießbar für uns. Wir würden nicht nochmal herkommen.

쌀국수맛있어요! 고기가 마치 스테이크먹는것처럼 양도많고 두꺼워요. 진짜 미디엄레어로 구운 스테이크느낌. 국물도 굿~ 친구가 한국보다 맛있대요. 인생쌀국수. 그리고 여기 비건반미도 맛있어요!

Kleine Speisekarte. Das Essen ist lecker und es ist nicht das übliche Curry. Auf der Karte stehen vor allem die "vietnamesischen Sandwiches". Hier gibt es leider nur eine vegan/vegetarische Option. Es wäre schön, wenn es da mehr Auswahl gäbe.

Tolles Lokal, alles selbstgemacht und gestaltet, wie die freundliche Besitzerin erzählte. Das Bành mí zum Mitnehmen war liebevoll eingepackt und hat super gut geschmeckt. Ich würde wöchentlich vorbeikommen, wäre das 1980 in meiner Stadt. Kann ich sehr empfehlen!

A hidden gem! Located just off the city centre of Cologne. The food was freshly made. One of the best pho i ever tasted. Good portion, good value for money. The prawn avocado sandwich was super tasty serves in warm bread. The place is packed just like in Asia! Good service even though they don't speak English, but they are trying their best to help. The only downside is that you need to pay in cash...could be tricky if you didn't know upfront.

Das Ragout ist für mich das absolute Highlight. Aber auch das Banh Mi und die Fritten waren top. Man merkt das alle Zutaten frisch und selber zubereitet wurden.

Das Bành Mì ist außergewöhnlich gut. Zudem eines der wenigen Restaurants, welches seit Jahren gleichbleibend gute Qualität abliefert. Absolute Empfehlung! Eine Top-Adresse in Köln oder sogar weit darüber hinaus...

I started with the Phở Bò, which was a steaming bowl of flavorful broth with tender beef and aromatic herbs – it was simply heavenly. To accompany my meal, I opted for the 1980 homemade iced tea, which was a refreshing blend of flavors that perfectly complemented the dishes. And let's not forget the sweet potato fries; they were crispy on the outside and delightfully soft on the inside – a delightful twist on a classic. One of the standout highlights of my visit was the salted calamansi lime drink. It was a tantalizing mix of sweet and tangy, leaving my taste buds dancing with joy. Despite being conveniently close to the Neumarkt tram station, it manages to maintain a peaceful atmosphere, away from the busy hustle and bustle of the city.

Tastes very good, but the portions are super small. Sweet potato fries are literally 14 (!) pieces. The Banh Mi is also rather tiny. So a normal hunger feeling definitely needs at least both mentioned items (or 2 Banh Mi) to be satisfied, which then makes it a little more expensive then. Service is friendly and pretty quick. Only the bill took some time. Cash only (unfortunately). You can sit nicely outdoors.

Das erste mal, dass ich in meinem leben Banh Mi gegessen hab, war hier. Sehr lecker, nur leider etwas klein (ich bin dafür bekannt einen sehr großen Hunger zu haben). Die Süßkartoffelpommes sind ebenfalls stark zu empfehlen. Als Pommesliebhaber, ein Mundorgasmus. Ich war bisschen verwirrt als ich in den Laden kam und das Personal schien auch von mir verwirrt zu sein und hat deshalb seltsam auf mich reagiert. Das war schon ein kleines weilchen her, aber ich weiß immernoch nicht ob es an mir lag oder an ihnen. Trotzdem, nett behandelt worden und ich schäme mich immernoch, dass ich nicht genug Geld dabei hatte, um mehr als 20ct Trinkgeld zu geben.

Es ist wie in Asien die Lokale, einfach aber mit viel Herz ♥️. Einfach gemütlich, mit viel Zeit zum Essen, alles frisch zubereitet, und wahnsinnig lecker 😋.!!! Ich habe es nicht bereut hier her gekommen zu sein!!!👍😊. Ich kann das Lokal nur wärmstens empfehlen!!!

Wanted to like this place more than I did. The positives: really friendly waiter, relaxed outdoor seating area and chilled vibe overall. The not-so-positives: limited menu and food was only OK, took a long time to get our (very warm) beers.

Das Essen wird frisch in der offenen Küche zubereitet. Eine ungezwungene, stimmige Atmosphäre. Dies alles verdankt das kleine Restaurant seiner immer fröhlichen, wunderbaren Chefin. Danke, danke!

Hier gibt es absolut leckere Bánh Mis mit tollen Salaten oder Süßkartoffelpommes als Beilage und immer tolle Wochengerichte. Ich kann die selbstgemachte Litchi-Limonade und auch den guten Kaffee für zwischendurch empfehlen. Sehr entspannte Atmosphäre.
