We were in the glass cabinet for the New Year's Eve menu. Due to the abundance of the front dining room, we were placed in a side room, away from the hustle and bustle and - as it later turned out - appropriate service. The furnishings of this room can often be found in inns in villages with fewer than 200 inhabitants. This seemed inappropriate to us in the Glashaus restaurant. Maybe that's intentional, who knows. Although there were only 5 or 6 course menus on offer that evening, our table was only set for starters and desserts. This was only corrected by the service after the amuse bouche - at least without being asked. Speaking of amuse bouche: This is not usually a course on the menu, which is why one course can safely be subtracted from the glass cabinet menus with 5 or 6 courses in the rest of the restaurant world. There was no vegetarian amuse bouche shown on the menu and the service did not comply with the requirements in this regard. Guests' wishes asked. Consequently, inappropriate amuse bouche was served to the guests. However, in the context of the poor overall performance of the service, this is only a small faux pas. We chose the 4-course menu. The amuse bouche and the starter were of high quality craftsmanship and taste. Both starters were successful examples of Mediterranean/Asian crossover cuisine. We were satisfied. In the pasta intermediate course, the sauce had none of the creamy consistency of a velouté, but unfortunately remained at the same level as the roux on which it was based. With the “Truffle Pasta” I couldn’t detect any truffle taste with the best will in the world. My sensory system was probably still stuck together by the “Velouté”. Overall, with this course the level dropped to “just edible”. Too bad. We now had the main course ahead of us. The components of the main course were probably all of high quality. At least before they were executed by the glass cabinet chef... - I mean, prepared. The swansong for an edible main course begins with a black piece of beef fillet that has left the degree of “well done” towards “dead and burried”. The jus stuck to the plate, both were as cold as New Year's Eve. The potato gratin had the appearance of yellowish paper that had been charred at the edges, and the consistency was similar to hardened concrete. With the right tools and some physical effort, we were able to create a small gap in the gratin surface. To summarize it charmingly: Taking into account the cold Thai broccoli, all components of the main course went together shockingly well and contributed equally to the catastrophic overall result. The excellent dessert couldn't have had a more positive impact on our overall impression. The service was friendly and attentive. We had to wait between 20 and 45 minutes between courses, but at least we got the courses in the right order and (almost) always got the dish we ordered. The guests at the next table, who were already eating their starters when we came into the restaurant, were not so lucky: After we had finished our dessert, when the waiter asked the couple if they wanted to enjoy their dessert, they asked for the first main course. The waiter remained friendly and calm, but didn't say a word of regret. So much for the service, which obviously ignored the guests at the neighboring table for almost 2 hours. We paid 300 euros for twice the 4-course menu, two cocktails, a glass of wine and two cokes. The service offered in terms of ambience, service and food quality did not do justice to this price. We certainly won't be able to determine in the foreseeable future whether that evening in the glass cabinet was just a "slip down." The glass cabinet left us with too bad an impression and after this experience it is literally not worth the price for us. We wish all other guests Bon Appétit and good luck!
