After a long time we were back in the “Athen” restaurant in Xanten. The reserved table was kindly assigned to us by an employee. When we received the menu, we were amazed. Compared to the website, the offer was significantly reduced and the prices were extremely raised. It would make sense to update the prices on the website so that the customer can adapt to this. The starters were good and tasty. The main course with gyros was unfortunately borderline. The gyro was extremely fatty and not crispy in any way. Various pieces tasted slightly spoiled. As a result, I didn't eat most of the gyro. The liver was okay. The rice tasted bland. The dish of baked chicken fillet was okay, but overpriced at around €23. Furthermore, the wine (supermarket wine) was served from a 2 liter bottle. €6.40 for 0.2 liters of wine is quite sporty. In general the price/performance ratio is not suitable. The service by a second employee wasn't very friendly and when it came to billing, they didn't even make an effort to give out the change. Well then. Unfortunately, the very nice ambience cannot make up for the shortcomings. It will probably be a long time, if not forever, before we visit the restaurant again.
