We visited the restaurant, or rather the Adler restaurant, in Pfullingen for the first time. The reviews on Google were all very good and since I am a big fan of Greek cuisine, the Adler was our choice. The ambience: In the restaurant, the only thing that indicates that you are a guest of Greeks are a few run-of-the-mill decorative pictures that are actually suitable for home and the subtle pattern on the ceiling lights. Otherwise, the atmosphere is reminiscent of restaurants in the 1980s. Paper tablecloths are a no go these days! Then it's better to have a bare table. The service: The lady who served us was friendly and kept asking if everything was OK. As it turned out 3 days later, this is only the case as long as there is no criticism! The menu: On the menu you will find the usual Greek cuisine, gyros, bifteki, suflaki, tzaziki etc. Unfortunately no mousaka, zucchini chips or anything that would make this restaurant something special. The food: The food tasted good and the quantity was okay. The Ortef plate as a starter was delicious, but a slice of tomato and 2 slices of cucumber, a sixth of an egg, which was probably intended as decoration, is already poor. The 2 olives were also underwhelming. There was 1 stuffed grape leaf on the plate! 2 hot peppers, 1 teaspoon beans and 1 teaspoon eggplant paste. One tablespoon of tzatziki and one tablespoon of cream cheese paste. A piece of feta and a few squid rings and shrimp fried in batter. The batter was dark, but the squid meat in it was not tough. This suggests that the frying time wasn't too long, but the dark color tells me that the fat wasn't that fresh. The Kalahari for the main course, coated in flour and pan-fried, came from the same deep fryer and had the same dark color, while the meat was also fine. The fries were tasty and not overly salty as is often the case. A halved lemon looked rather bland on the plate. The gyros were delicious, there's nothing to complain about. The side salads were also delicious but here too, half a slice of tomato and 1 slice of cucumber, a sixth of an egg as decoration is boring and unloving. When my daughter wanted to put the leftover food in the Styrofoam box provided, the boss probably didn't do it quickly enough and she ripped the plate out of her hand and simply dumped the rest into the box Conclusion: If you want to eat something simple and unspectacular, Adler is the right place for you. But anyone who expects Greek flair and beautifully prepared plates will be disappointed. With a little color and a little Greek decoration, you could easily spice up the ambience. And when it comes to preparing the food, there are now so many cooking shows on TV where amateur chefs show what's contemporary, you don't even have to make a big effort to get inspired. You don't have to be fancy, but at least you have to keep up with the times a little bit. In retrospect, I can understand where the many good reviews come from. In my opinion, the guest clientele consists of Pfullingen regulars in the over 50 age group who are treated almost like family, which of course has a certain charm. But these guests don't judge objectively, but you can only grow through criticism. Edit: I would like to point out that as a trained chef I can certainly allow myself constructive criticism and that it is not meant in a bad way but rather honestly. Unfortunately, I discovered that the operators are not open to criticism! When I called Adler 3 days after our visit about an item my mother had left behind, the boss on the phone shouted at me in a completely aggressive manner. Regardless of this, when a short time later an acquaintance who was driving past the restaurant with my mother stopped there at my mother's request to ask about the item, he was also shouted at aggressively.

update...were there again on October 6th, 2024. New tenant, new good kitchen again... Owners are very nice and friendly, you can feel comfortable there... CORRECTION: Review is only valid until March 2021 as I moved away there. After that I only heard about a change of ownership. Always good food, good mood, just to feel good... Prices are great, staff are always friendly, no reason to complain...
