Zwickerstube in Mannheim

When we originally moved to Mannheim almost 2 years ago, I remembered walking by Zwickerstube and thinking that we needed to come to this traditional German-Pfaelzish restaurant. We finally went last night on a whim with no reservation and what a great experience. The staff seated us happily and we proceeded to have a great meal - I had the Pfaelz Teller with all the traditional goodness that comes with Saumagen, Leberknodel and grilled wuerst. My wife had Rumpsteak mit Zwibeln that was tremendously tender and flavorful. Of course we matched the meal with local wines from the area. We were delighted and will be back! It does appear that there may only be just a few folks in the kitchen creating this delicious homemade food, so get there early or be prepared to have some extra glasses of wine (or beer) while you wait!

I visited Zwickerstube again, this time under the new ownership – and I was pleasantly surprised. The cozy atmosphere remains, and it still feels very inviting. I had the beef steak with Spätzle and mushroom sauce. The steak was beautifully tender and cooked perfectly, the Spätzle were delicious, and the sauce was wonderfully flavorful – everything was harmonious and very well seasoned. The portion was generous, and the price was reasonable. The service was also friendly and attentive. You can tell that they put their heart and soul into their work. Keep it up – I'll definitely be back! 😊 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Small, charming restaurant with a small menu, but the food was delicious, and the service was friendly and fast. Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back soon.

I've been there several times since it reopened and even celebrated my birthday there. Every time, everything has been excellent, especially the food, which is freshly prepared and always delicious. Keep it up!

It's a shame. The Zwickerstube has apparently changed hands, which on the one hand is nice that there are no more empty spaces in the restaurant. The big but: the service is friendly but yawningly slow. Drinks are served table by table; it is not possible for the lady behind the bar to pull several beers at once. I no longer find the prices reasonable, hence three stars for the food, as I cannot rate the taste. The request to reserve a table for seven people had to be declined because there was already a reservation for the same number of people on the same day and at the same time. In the past, the Zwickerstube was completely full, and everyone got their food and drink. Perhaps the new owners will get their momentum going, but the way it is now is disappointing.

The food was truly outstanding. I really have nothing to complain about. Even when I was already full, I still ate it all because it was so delicious. You can tell that everything is still made from scratch! I had the beef goulash with spaetzle 😋

Friendly staff and delicious food.

It looks rather unassuming from the outside, but the ambiance inside is very pleasant. A great atmosphere. Even if you come here alone, you'll be in very good hands. The prices are very reasonable for the portion size and taste. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. I'd love to come back here again.

Perfect atmosphere, delicious food and very friendly staff.

First, the positive: the food was very good, the dining room is quaint and cozy. But: the food was unfortunately reheated and not freshly prepared. The dishes are very expensive. They only serve small or very small pilsners on tap. The service wasn't particularly friendly, more like arrogant. It's a shame, since there are few options for Palatinate food in Mannheim.

Super delicious food! Everything's fresh and great prices! Great atmosphere! It's a great place to have a good conversation! I'd love to come back!!!

A quaint and cozy restaurant with excellent value for money! The atmosphere is warm and inviting – you immediately feel at home. I especially recommend the onion soup – wonderfully aromatic and truly delicious. The Wiener Schnitzel was a real highlight: crispy breading, perfectly fried in butter, and the meat tender and juicy. You can tell the love goes into cooking here. The service was also friendly and attentive. I'd definitely be back!

The shop seems to have reopened with new people. They're absolutely enthusiastic, and I found it a pleasant experience that things aren't running smoothly yet. They're coming, and then it will be a different experience. The food is really good. I'd love to come back.

The Viennese schnitzel was very greasy but tasty. It only took an hour and a half for the food to arrive. We understand that the restaurant has only been under new ownership since last Friday. The delay is also due to the fact that a group of 14 people had arrived before we arrived. Still, waiting an hour and a half for your food is unacceptably long, especially with only three staff members in a small restaurant. The service was friendly. Oh, and you could only pay with cash or PayPal. But that will probably be resolved soon.

Ok, to be fair, there is a new owner since 4 days. But the reason for me to place a review is exactly that, as the previous reviews should be deleted and can no longer be trusted. Please forget all review$ up to August 2025. We were welcomed in the restaurant but if we would have known that A. It would take more than 1.5 hours to prepare a simple meal and B. We were unable to pay with card and they only accept cash or PayPal, we would have walked away immediately. 1.5 hours for the meals we had is unacceptable. What a deception, we were drawn by the pictures and reviews which are old and for the previous owners of the restaurant. We payed 122 euros in cash, for 4 schnitzels with some potatoes, 6 drinks, and without any dessert. 3 ladies in serving staff and they have no clue what to do. There was a group of 14 people who got their dinners in turns, which means that many had finished before others even received their food. Maybe this will improve over time, but the main message is, do not trust the current pictures and reviews (or menu) up and until August 2025. :(

Schnitzel may be a bit salty for Korean tastes, but it was just right when eaten with a salad. The owner is very kind and humorous. Only cash payment is possible.

Es ist genau das was man erwartet. Gute kompakte Karte mit üblichen Preisen. Es schmeckt einfach gut, Schnitzel wird frisch geklopft. Habe den Zwiebelrostbraten gegessen, sehr lecker innen schön rosa. Abgerundet wird das ganze von einem urigem Ambiente und einem sehr netten Service.

Ich kann mich den vorigen Rezensionen nur anschließen: Sehr gemütlich, freundlich und persönlich. Fast schon würde ich sagen, privat. Durch die offene Tür kann man in die Küche schauen. Alles wirkt sehr authentisch. Gerichte sehr bodenständig und lecker. Ich denke, solche Lokale gibt es heute immer seltener.

Etwas angestaubt, aber leckeres Essen zu einem angemessenen Preis. Zu Dritt jeder ein Essen und drei Getränke rund € 80, kann man nicht meckern und jeder war zufrieden. Nur Achtung: keine Kartenzahlung möglich!

Kleines uhriges Restaurant. Freundliches Personal. Schön kleine Karte mit schön großen Portionen. Auf jedem Tisch steht reserviert aber das stört nicht. Essen kommt recht schnell und wird frisch zubereitet.

Vynikající restaurace. Všem doporučuji. Výborný argentinský steak s opečeným bramborem a vynikajícím salátem. Pivo velmi dobré a obsluha fantastická.

Die Zwickerstube ist eines unserer absoluten Favoriten-Restaurants in Mannheim. Das liegt nicht nur an der Nähe in unserem Kiez, sondern hauptsächlich am superguten Essen, den sehr freundlichen Inhabern und der total netten Bedienung. Hier wurden wir noch nie enttäuscht und es ist immer ein Highlight, hier essen zu gehen. Einziges Manko: Im Sommer samstags und sonntags geschlossen, wo wir doch so gerne samstags essen gehen.

Ziemlich schäbiger Ort. Die Besitzerin, eine sehr unhöfliche Frau. Nachdem wir die ersten Gerichte mitgebracht haben, werden wir gesagt, dass sie keine Kreditkarten akzeptieren. Nach dem Essen der Hauptspeise, ohne etwas zu fragen, bekommen wir die Rechnung. Es war noch nicht zu spät. Ich empfehle es nicht. Das Essen ist nichts Besonderes.

Sehr kleines und etwas dunkles Restaurant. Trotz vieler Gäste wurde man schnell mit Speis und Trank versorgt. Das Essen war okay aber nicht so gut wie oft hier geschrieben.

Hier isst man noch richtig gut bürgerlich. Die Bratkartoffeln waren so knusprig und die Schnitzel ebenfalls. Ich konnte in die Küche schauen und sehen, dass dort eine sehr professionelle Köchin am Werk war. Der Service war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Hier stimmt das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis!!

Ich war mit einem Kumpel zu einem Konzertbesuch in der SAP Arena. Davor mit der S-Bahn noch in die Innenstadt Mannheims, direkt zur Zwickerstube. Dort soll es, gemäß Bewertungsportalen, mit das beste Cordon bleu in Mannheim geben, außerdem gibt es dort Weinbergschnecken. Nicht zu viel versprochen, wunderbares, rustikales Ambiente, sehr sauberes Restaurant. Das Cordon bleu gehört zu dem Besten, dass uns je serviert wurde, die Weinbergschnecken waren köstlich. Nur zu empfehlen. Tipp: Besser vorab reservieren!

Sehr gute gutbürgerliche, deutsche Küche. Preis-Leistung ist top! ABER: heutzutage keine Karte zu nehmen ist ein NO GO. Ich musste zum Geldautomaten laufen.

Gute Wiener Schnitzel und auch schöne Vorspeisen und gute reisling Wein dazu. Mit als Nachtisch noch ein Apfelstrudel.

Wir hatten vorbestellt und den ersten Dämpfer gab es, als ich erfuhr, das es kein Schwarzes oder dunkles Bier gibt. Den zweiten Dämpfer gab es, als mein Salat (Hauptgericht) mit zu den Vorspeisen gebracht wurde. Die Hauptgerichte kamen sehr schnell. Nur nicht alle gleichzeitig. Die Esser welche fertig waren bekamen gleich ihren leeren Teller abgeräumt. Auf der Tiffany Lampe, welche über dem Tisch hängt, könnte mal wieder Staub gewischt werden.

Eine der wenigen ursprünglichen Gaststätten in Mannheim! Eine übersichtliche Speisekarte mit die Speisen die stets gut und meist üppig sind. Einige lokale Persönlichkeiten sind Stammgast. Das garantiert Ursprünglichkeit.

Klein maar fijn. Typisch Duitse keuken voor nette prijzen. Lekker bier en goede wijn. Altijd welkom zo lang er plek is. Dat kan ook bij iemand aantafel zijn.

Le restaurant est fréquenté par des habitués. J'étais probablement ces soirs-ci le seul étranger. Très bon accueil. A la carte et au menu du jour des plats locaux. J'ai essayé successivement la salade de saucisses et les fricadelles. La cuisine est familiale et délicieuse.

Freunde hatten gesagt, dass sie bereits in den 70er hier waren und sich fast nichts geändert hätte. Das Essen war gut, allerdings nicht sehr gut. Die Bratkartoffel waren ausgezeichnet, knusprig, knackig - besser geht es nicht. Das Cordon Bleu war zu trocken, der Geschmack u.a. von würzigem Käse hatte mir gefehlt (vielleicht wäre es besser das Fleisch etwas dünner zu nehmen). Die anderen Essen waren sehr gut. Der Riesling im Weinschorle war nicht unser Geschmack. Die Preise sind fair und passen gut zum Angebotenen. Der Service war sehr freundlich. Die Bewertung hätte auch „befriedigend“ sein können, das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis hat letztlich den Ausschlag gegeben. Wir werden es nochmals probieren.

Wir sind begeistert! Ein Wunderbarer Ort um sich einfach nur wohl zu fühlen! Der Spargel mit Pfannkuchen ,wie man ihn von der Oma kennt, hervorragend vom Geschmack und Menge der Portion ! Einfach nur super hier und absolut empfehlenswert!

Immer wieder sehr gutes bürgerliches Essen - und ein bisschen Wohnzimmer. Nicht nur der Tisch, auch die Theke ist immer sehr nett.

We stumbled on this small restaurant/bar while in Mannheim. All the tables were either full or reserved for the night and we were lucky to get some seats at the bar. Friendly service and a genuine local atmosphere had us stay for long enough to see what great food was being served here. The food is fantastic; Large portions of home made local favourites served with gusto from a compact and busy kitchen. After eating we were introduced to the local drink of 'Schorle' which is made from the local riesling and soda water (from a perpetully full fridge below the bar). I'd recomend a visit and try to book in advance if you want to eat there.

Start with the fact that this is only the second or third English-language review of this place. And that it's in Mannheim, not exactly tourist-central. Nor should it be. And that you have to walk through little Istanbul to get there, in block E3. But...
