The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly – ​​you feel very welcome.

I was here for the first time on Sunday, and it was a special visit. We only came for a beer, but we sat at the bar and were immediately captivated by the interior :) It's like a small local history museum with all sorts of different things in the two dining rooms. From the very beginning, there was a particularly warm and welcoming atmosphere, which the owners radiated, so we decided to order food after all. The food arrived incredibly quickly and was delicious :) The whole experience was accompanied by German hits from the 70s and 80s – all that was missing was Dieter Thomas Heck between the songs 😃 I will definitely be back and highly recommend a visit!

Top-notch. Unfortunately, it happens too rarely, but that's due to the distance. Keep it up!

The Wachtel is one of the best restaurants in Lauterbach. Absolutely rustic and charming. Anyone visiting Lauterbach must stop by the Wachtel.

A quaint, original gastropub. Excellent food, very authentic from the Vogelsberg/Lauterbach/East Hesse region. Excellent drink selection, and the owner is a true character. After the sumptuous main course, there was even a sweet tarte flambée on the house.

Haven't eaten so well in a long time

Delicious, home-style cooking. Large portions. Cozy interior with many antiques. If you're staying in Lauterbach and want to enjoy Lauterbach specialties, this is the place to be.

Unfortunately, we had another very unpleasant experience with the manager. Customers were treated disrespectfully. Making a reservation by phone is almost impossible. We called five times – to no avail. If you then decide to show up in front of the restaurant, you're rudely reprimanded, loudly for all the guests to hear, that you have no business being there without a reservation. When we pointed out the difficulties in reaching us by phone, the manager's response was, "Well, there's a reason for that." He shouted all this over the terrace and didn't even take a moment to talk to us. That was our last visit. We will also hold celebrations elsewhere in the future.

We stopped here by chance today while on a bike tour. We felt extremely comfortable. The food was very good and plentiful, and the owner was extremely friendly. You just felt at home. There was a lot to discover inside, too.

I ordered two schnitzels, but they weren't worth mentioning. The schnitzel was cold, the fries were pre-fried, and the food was cold and salty. My pepper sauce was just a strangely cold gravy with egg and a few peppercorns. The best bits were the friendly waitress and the nice draft beer. I haven't had such a bad meal in a long time. I'm a restaurateur myself, and I'm very disappointed that customers are subjected to such a thing.

I always enjoyed going there, the food was exceptionally delicious and the boss was super nice. I hope it continues and stays open. A restaurant like this has to stay in Lauterbach, even if it's become difficult. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the team during this time.

Sachets with onion sauce, dumpling dough too salty and not made with fresh potato dumpling dough. The owner must have been having a bad day! Friendly service is different.

‼️Update‼️: Unfortunately slipped into the “NoGo” category! There is now a large “no dogs” sign on the door - for example. B. not there in May 2024. We were sitting outside in the summer of 2024 - theoretically it could have already been there. When I asked the “owner” how this happened, he said quite aggressively and not very service-oriented, it had been there for 2 years. Unfortunately that's not true 🤥!!! We were there this week with a group of 10 and were not advised of the change when we made our reservation a few weeks ago. The menu didn't have a single beef dish anymore 😡 The food came in stages - we couldn't eat together. What a very unpleasant group! You start together, which meant that my schnitzel and my neighbor's tarte flambée were really cold when the last dish was served. It's a shame that things have changed so much here. The one star is for friendly and very attentive service. Who can't do anything for her unempathetic boss and the poor kitchen organization. May 2024: Was here last weekend with a friend. We found it bad because Google Maps didn't show it so clearly. When we were there, total excitement! Super nice hosts with hearts and minds. The furnishings are cozy and with attention to detail. Little eye-catchers everywhere, right down to the quiet little place! The food was extremely tasty and came quickly. The prices are okay for this wonderful service. Another little special feature: I ordered the steak English rare and it was grilled to perfection, which is rare these days.

Biker fans will also get their money's worth with the spatial decoration made of antique motorcycles. Freshly prepared food and friendly staff round off a visit to this traditional restaurant.

Picked up a St. Martin's goose "to go" for the 2nd year in a row today. It tasted really delicious, with dumplings, red cabbage, Brussels sprouts, sauce and baked apple. Of course the goose was stuffed too. All of my guests were thrilled. Dear Wachtel team, thank you very much for this!

Quaint restaurant in the old town of Lauterbach. Down-to-earth, delicious, regional cuisine. You should definitely try the sour cream dip. The landlord fits this restaurant like a glove. Always happy to do so... after strolling through the neighboring antique market, we would definitely recommend a stop.

Today he sent us away on the grounds that the dogs might bark. He doesn't care that we are like regulars. We will never visit this restaurant again.

A few days ago I had dinner at Wachtel and was surprised by the small pub. A timely and lovingly furnished location. Man is constantly discovering new things from his father's and grandfather's times. The food was very tasty and the waiting time was reasonable and the price was also great. The service was quick and friendly. After eating we checked out all the corners and finally enjoyed a few drinks at the counter. We really enjoyed it and we will definitely be repeat visitors.👍😋

Nice, rustic restaurant in the center of Lauterbach. The food was decent even if the schnitzels were not made in the pan, the red cabbage in the sauerbraten varies in quality, hence a small point deduction. Service was friendly and pleasant. You should visit.

A nice and cozy restaurant in Lauterbach, we got a table around 6 p.m. without a reservation, but it's still worth making an appointment beforehand or asking if there's anything available as it's a small restaurant. The food was fresh and very tasty, it came relatively quickly and was reasonably priced, as were the drinks. We'd love to come by again.

Eine gute Küche in einem kleinen aber gemütlichen Lokal erwartet euch hier. Ich hatte ein gefülltes Schnitzel mit frischen Salat und Pommes, was gut geschmeckt hatte. Im oberen Bereich ist noch ein zusätzlicher Gastraum, der schön dekoriert ist.

Werde in 2023 meinen 59 Geburtstag in der Wachtel feiern. Ich denke das sagt alles über Essen,Service, Ambiente und Preis Leistung aus. Es gibt traditionelle Gerichte die es nur da gibt aber auch leckere verschiedene Flammkuchen auf dem Holzbrett und wenn man auf Antike steht,auf das längst Vergessene ist man hier gut aufgehoben und man kommt sofort ins Gespräch mit anderen Gästen. Wo findet man das heute noch in der Smartphone Gesellschaft, die gar nicht mehr wissen was es bedeutet anderen in die Augen zu schauen und zu reden. Die Wachtel irgendwann zu verlassen bedeutet ich komme definitiv wieder. Hatte den 59 in der Wachtel gefeiert, Top. Hab heute schon die Gästeliste für den 60ten geschrieben. Es sollen noch mehr Leute dieses Traumessen genießen dürfen

Netter Wirt, schönes Ambiente und tolle Preise für Getränke. (Über das Essen kann ich nichts sagen) Der Wirt war sehr freundlich auf Zack - man musste nie lange warten und auf dem Trocknen saß man auch nicht. Absolute Weiterempfehlung!

Die tollste Örtlichkeit in Lauterbach! Apfel-Zimt Flammkuchen ist unglaublich lecker, Erdbeer Banane Nutella Flammkuchen fast genauso gut! Wir hatten einen wirklich schönen Abend in tollem Ambiente! Das Essen ist insgesamt super, hatten unterschiedliche Gerichte und waren alle zufrieden.

Einfach nur super 👍 Wir haben dort etwas getrunken und waren rundum zufrieden. Eine kleine uriche Kneipe in der man sich wohl fühlt. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt und der Wirt macht seinen Job einfach nur klasse. Er ist sehr freundlich, witzig und schlagfertig. Auch als es dort etwas voller wurde, mussten wir nie lange auf unsere Getränke warten. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder und werden beim nächsten Mal auch etwas dort essen.
