I completely agree. I've never experienced anything like it either. Oh well, there are other restaurants.

The owner is very unfriendly and unable to handle criticism. And his behavior at the table was embarrassing! Unfortunately, the food was cold, and the advertised cream sauce wasn't really cream sauce at all; it tasted like water. The wrong order was brought to the table. We ordered a cream schnitzel, but what arrived was a schnitzel with onions. After it was exchanged, we noticed that the food had only been topped with a thin layer of cream sauce and mushrooms. For personal reasons (because of the onions), we couldn't eat it. After pointing this out to the server, the owner came to the table with limited mobility and said, "You're not seriously going to send my whole schnitzel back just because of two onions, are you? Don't be so fussy!" We didn't touch the schnitzel, and it went back to the kitchen, but we still had to pay for it! Very unfriendly and rude! Never again!

I've been to the Zur Sonne restaurant several times now – for a variety of occasions – and each time I've been absolutely delighted. The cuisine is down-to-earth, honest, and consistently excellent. Here you can still get truly delicious, traditional dishes, prepared with great care and always served fresh and flavorful. The service is also friendly, attentive, and warm without being intrusive. You simply feel welcome. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal. In short: Zur Sonne is a restaurant where quality and hospitality are paramount. I'll definitely be back and can wholeheartedly recommend it!

Excellent! My rump steak with herb butter was cooked to perfection, and the meat was of good quality (as far as I could tell). The side dishes were plentiful and also very tasty. The service was also good. Although there seemed to be a Christmas party taking place in the large adjoining room, the food and drinks arrived promptly. The server always checked if everything was alright and immediately attended to any requests. Providing a high chair was also no problem. Attentive, friendly service, good food, and reasonable prices. I would gladly return. I highly recommend this restaurant.

At Restaurant Sonne, you feel completely at ease from the very first moment. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the team is incredibly attentive and welcoming. The food is absolutely superb. The service is equally impeccable—friendly, quick, and yet pleasantly unobtrusive. You can tell that everyone here puts a lot of passion into their work.

A very nice restaurant with modern furnishings. We were there for lunch today with 11 people, including 2 children. The schnitzels were very tender and delicious, the salads fresh and tasty. The portions are very generous, and the value for money is excellent! Highly recommended, even for families with children.

The friendliness of the service staff left a lot to be desired, starting from the moment we entered the restaurant. A friendly "good morning" or "good afternoon" as a greeting seemed impossible that day. The quality of the steak left a lot to be desired. Aside from the fact that they didn't ask how it was cooked, it unfortunately came cooked in a medium-rare way and was tough! When we asked why the card reader hadn't been working for a few weeks, we were told that it was the chef's intention! A no-go in the age of digitalization!

*Very disappointing and unprofessional!* We had reserved a table and wanted to go out to dinner today. Unfortunately, our reservation was canceled just five hours before our own call – with the explanation that the fire department had booked after us and it would now be a private party. Very annoying, especially since our reservation was made first and the restaurant was large enough to accommodate both. Such a procedure unfortunately seems very disorganized and unprofessional. We were really looking forward to the visit – but were simply "pushed out." For us, today was a clear disappointment, especially since we booked over six months ago and it was a birthday dinner, and we had trouble finding alternatives so quickly. We certainly won't be booking again.

We were surprised at how good it was here. The service was very friendly and courteous. Oh yes... the food was delicious. On April 28, 2023, we were here again with a birthday party. The food was excellent. The two ladies who served us were particularly special. Despite a total of three parties, the ladies were very prompt and extremely polite. We will definitely be back. October 19, 2025 We were surprised. New management, new menu... The food was very good. In my opinion, the menu could be improved. We followed the new owner from his last restaurant because of the good food and wanted to try "Zur Sonne" yesterday. The food was quite good, as usual. However, the pepper and spice mix on my chicken with cream sauce didn't go well with the food, which is certainly a matter of taste. The other dishes were fine. The ambiance is 100x better than before. Beautiful location, well-kept interior, and decent restrooms. I can imagine the terrace will be very nice in the summer, too. The biggest drawback is the service and the cooperation between the kitchen and the waitresses. Unfortunately, the inexperience of the server who served us was noticeable. This can be overlooked, as they were trying hard and will surely learn something new. But towards the end, an incident occurred that I cannot accept. The server offered us the dessert menu around 8:00 PM, and we ordered something: chocolate tart and coffee klatsch, two simple desserts. Shortly afterward, the waitress came back to inform us that the chef had left and they couldn't make dessert after all. 1 negative experience: offering something they couldn't fulfill because the chef left early. Honestly, the desserts were so simple, the server or kitchen assistant could have made them. That really dampened the mood. Afterwards, we heard the male person in the kitchen (kitchen assistant) loudly attacking the server. With an unfriendly "Come here!", she was then called into the kitchen. 2 negative experiences: you don't treat your colleagues/people like that! Especially not in front of the customers. She did eventually bring us the desserts we ordered. But that didn't improve our mood. Such behavior is unacceptable and, for me, a reason not to come back! Too bad.

Our first visit after the change of ownership, and we were not disappointed. All the dishes (schnitzel and liver) were delicious, and the fries were absolutely excellent. A previous criticism was also addressed, and the sauce was served separately with the liver. Great. Service was very attentive, and the noise level wasn't disturbing despite the full house. We just wish they'd offer card payments in the future. Otherwise, everything was great; we'll definitely be back.

Mussel buffet today, everything was great, would go again!

We have been enjoying going to Zur Sonne for many years. Now we wanted to try out the new tenant and had made an online reservation for Saturday. Unfortunately the reservation didn't work out despite confirmation and reminder emails...but we still got a table as there were only two of us. If there had been more people there would have been complications as the restaurant was busy. The menu has a special section for Vegetarian Dishes...3 items to choose from unfortunately it's all just pasta, so rather unimaginative and not even VEGETARIAN as all three dishes are made with Parmesan and buffalo mozzarella and any chef who has any interest in their dishes knows that both cheeses are made with animal rennet and are therefore not vegetarian because cow stomachs are used. I reported this and got my pasta with tomato sauce without burrata, but unfortunately the full price was still deducted in the end even though the buffalo mozzarella was the most expensive part of the dish. In other restaurants near us they always deduct something from the price, which would be to be expected. The food was still very tasty...served quickly, and the girls were all very friendly and nice. After the main course, the table was cleared away and we were never asked again if we wanted anything else to drink, let alone given a dessert menu. It was a real shame. Getting the bill also involved a long wait, and payment was only possible with cash.

I ate at the restaurant with my husband. The ambiance was very nice, and the service was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, I wasn't satisfied with my dish – veal liver with mashed potatoes and gravy. The liver was served in a lot of gravy, so everything was swimming in it. The mashed potatoes were too soft, and the overall texture was unappealing (see picture). I only tried two forkfuls, then sent the food back and politely explained to the server that I didn't like it. Nevertheless, I had to pay the full price. I found that disappointing. The drinks (Coke and beer) tasted okay, but quite expensive for our tastes. My husband was happy with his steak – it was well prepared and tasted perfect. Overall, a nice place with friendly service, but unfortunately, my meal was not edible, and the handling of my feedback could have been more accommodating.

We were here for the second time today, and I have to say, it's amazing. Fresh schnitzel, a delicious sauce (pepper cream and regular cream sauce), and homemade fries. The portion is very generous and you'll definitely be full. The dressing for the side salad is incredibly delicious, and the salad is very fresh. The ambiance is fantastic; there's plenty of space at and between the tables. The decor is also very harmonious. The service staff and the kitchen are perfect and on top of their game. Please keep up the good work, we are completely satisfied. Absolutely fantastic and top-notch fries, thank you.

We were there for lunch for my father's birthday. The atmosphere was pleasant (same decor as the previous tenant). We received a friendly welcome. Unfortunately, the menu consisted of only a few individual sheets (perhaps you could put it on a clipboard, like the dessert menu). There was also a changing daily special. Drinks were brought promptly, and the food came out quite quickly, too. The dishes were a decent size. I personally don't think €35 is expensive for lunch with drinks. So, all in all, it was a pleasant lunch.

We had a good meal there today, and the prices are reasonable. We'll go again.

I can't confirm at all that the service was inattentive. This was our second time there. The food was first-class. Everything was fresh and of very good quality. The staff were very accommodating, very friendly, and very attentive. It often depends on how you present yourself. You can see that in some of the IMPOSSIBLE reviews. It's downright outrageous how arrogantly you write such impossible reviews for such a great team! As if surviving in the restaurant industry these days wasn't hard enough! Was here for the first time today. The salad was a bit heavy on mayo at times. The salad was very tasty and not too small. Friendly service, very nice atmosphere. We'll be back.

The menu is very varied. You can't complain about the prices either. The restaurant itself is very nice. The dining room, the outdoor area, is cozy and homely. But with more than 10 people, it feels like a bad cafeteria. Long tables where you can only talk to the person opposite you. There's a separate room for parties. Very bright lighting, similar to a sports hall. Everything is very uncomfortable. What I have to praise is that they allow dogs.

We were looking forward to our visit to the Zur Sonne restaurant, but were disappointed. The service was inattentive, some drinks were served without glasses, the schnitzel was tough and kept warm for too long, served with heavily salted, shrunken mushrooms, and a very meager "mixed" salad, also with tough schnitzel. The French fries looked like they'd been refried, much too dark. We returned the plates full, without any questions from the service staff. At €19.80 per dish, we would have expected significantly better quality. It's quite outrageous and not recommended.

A very pleasant atmosphere and fine food at reasonable prices. What was particularly positive was that, even though all the tables were occupied, there was never a rush... I've never experienced such a peaceful atmosphere in a restaurant before. It was my first visit here, but definitely not my last! Today (December 25, 2024) I spent a few pleasant hours here again in an absolutely comfortable atmosphere! Let's hope that the change of ownership scheduled for 2025 will not change anything other than this change – the bar is certainly set high for the successors 😉 Update from August 31, 2025. Our first visit here after the change of ownership was also very positive. Still fine food at fair prices in a pleasant atmosphere. We wish the new owners all the best and much success!

We came with a group of 35 people, and everyone was very satisfied. The menu was available in advance, so everyone could pre-order à la carte. Service was seamless. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Everyone praised the food. All the dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. One small drawback was that card payments aren't yet possible, but they're working on that...

The new tenant had heard various comments from guests and wanted to see for myself. Unfortunately, the owner has deleted fish dishes from his memory card. Apparently, he can't cook them. I had a steak that was only lukewarm and also had gristle. The waitress, who had been there under the previous owner, was very nice and accommodating. She was very sorry about all this. If the new owner wants to continue his program like this, he won't have his restaurant for long.

Schnitzel, deep-fried. The sauce tasted nothing. I chose pasta as a side dish, pure garlic cream. I wanted the sauce that came with the schnitzel. The only good addition was the herb curd cheese. The red mayonnaise tasted like mayo; I wonder why they made it look red. The addition was served at the same time as the side salad. I won't be visiting this restaurant again. Half the menu has been crossed out with a permanent marker.

Seven of us were in the beer garden. We all enjoyed the food very much. The service was very friendly and efficient. A visit is highly recommended.

Four of us ate there on Friday. It was a complete disaster; the service was completely out of order. We were still on our starter and suddenly they brought the salad, followed immediately by the main course. The drinks weren't working either. Finally, we ordered an old apricot and they brought something wrong. Price/performance ratio was completely overkill. Personally, I won't be going there again.

We went there for dinner on Wednesday, but unfortunately, we couldn't enjoy the schnitzel and its sauce. The meat was dry, the sauce inedible and mushy. What a shame. Hope it gets better.

We ate here on opening day and were very disappointed. The schnitzel was deep-fried. The breading fell off as soon as we cut it. The meat sauces were bland and meaningless. Drinks were very expensive. The waitresses were very friendly, but the owners didn't bother to say hello.

It's nice that the "Sonne" has a new tenant again. We went there for dinner on Saturday. Unfortunately, the schnitzels were too dry and lacked flavor. But there's still room for improvement. We'll be back.

We ate at the newly opened restaurant. The schnitzel was delicious and the value for money was absolutely reasonable, especially since everything was fresh and they even served it with a delicious dip with a baguette and a salad. Both desserts (creme brulee and chocolate cake) were also delicious. It's nice that, in addition to what feels like 20 kebab shops, there's now a delicious, home-style restaurant in Merchweiler again.

The restaurant basically offers a great overall package: the food was excellent, the service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is inviting and cozy, and the beer garden is really a dream - it's a wonderful place to end the evening. Unfortunately, we were unlucky enough to be assigned a very narrow table inside, which spoiled the experience a bit. We also sat right next to the phone, which rang nonstop throughout the evening, which was a bit annoying after a while. Overall, it's still a recommendable place, especially if you can sit outside in the beer garden.

The food was very good, it was nice to sit on the terrace, the seating could be a little more comfortable (plastic chairs), two waitresses, one quick, the other a little slower but okay.

What can I write, you sit on the terrace for 20 minutes, people are often knocking from inside but you don't even make an effort to come out. Strangely enough, all but two of the tables outside were “reserved”, mind you at the peak time of 8 p.m. Probably a measure due to a lack of staff. When I left, people became more attentive and ran after me. My answer was that it was over. Sorry “To the Sun” but that was nothing 👎🏻

Company party with approx. 50 people Everything worked great, the waitresses were very attentive and the atmosphere in the next room was appropriate. There was nothing wrong with the food (buffet cold/warm). “ZUR SONNE” would be happy again.

Really a great restaurant. We are happy to have tested this. The service is really great and very accommodating. For example, the drinks menu is available at the table upon arrival. The menu is brought straight away and the dessert menu is served straight after the meal without ordering. The drinks and well-being are always looked after. Really great. There is also a good selection of wines and a large selection of aperitifs. All I can say about the food is that there is a very generous but not too large selection available here. There is something on offer for everyone. Would love to come back.

Wir hatten "Family Lunch Sunday", mit 14 Erw. und 2 Kinder, mit Vorreservierung natürlich, wir mussten zwar länger auf das Essen warten,( es gab mehrere große Tische)fanden wir aber überhaupt nicht zum reklamieren, denn einige Familienmitglieder hatten Vorspeisen...dafür ein rapider und aufmerksamer Getränkeservice😉👍das Essen war super ich hatte z. B. Dorade toll gewürzt, alles in allem klasse...und erst die Creme brulé mit den marinierten Erdbeeren sensationell...Danke an das tolle Serviceteam

Das Restaurant ist wirklich nur zu empfehlen. Mit Freunden wollte ich die Spargelzeit noch ausnutzen und wir sind zur Sonne gegangen. Echt gut. Ich habe schon lange nicht mehr so guten Spargel gegessen, der auch reichlich serviert wurde. Noch das selbstgemachte Eis probiert, was den Abend abrundete. Da werde ich öfter zu Gast sein. Hatte keinen einzigen negativen Punkt erlebt. Super Bedingung die auch unter Stress freundlich und gelassen blieb.

Sehr ansprechendes Restaurant mit einem schönen grossen Biergarten. Das Essen ist sehr gut. Auch die Getränkekarte ist reichlich. Kurz gesagt, es passt alles!
